After lots of tries, and going nowhere, I bit the bait and started a new library

After going nowhere with my old B4.1 library, and spending too much time on it, I decided to start fresh, and just export the XMP files, as suggested by several people here.
After a failed attempt at exporting all of the 24,000 pictures XMPs (left the computer doing it at the night but when I came LR had crashed), I decided to export only the last year of photos (where adjustments were mostly made with LR). It took a while, failed to do that for 2 pictures (over 5,500 or so), but it finished.
So, yesterday I moved around the pictures in my HD (a reorder was needed anyway), and start the import... finished today, it gave some problems ("different files had different errors" but the errors were nowhere to be seen, I believe some of them are related to PSD without the compatibility flag, but without the exact error that LR is seeing, it's really hard to know, or worse, to fix it - another thing that IMHO needs to be solved) with some files, but almost all of the photos were in.
I had also been thinking about using DNG for a long while (I always use raw in my camera, a 20D and previously a Digital Rebel)... and this morning I decided to convert all of my library to DNG. It's been working for a big while (Activity Monitor displays 4 hours and a half of CPU time for LR), after a crash when doing the first 1,500 or so. Anyway, it has still maybe 65% of my library to go, so it's going to take easily all day. Fortunately this operation uses several threads/processors, not like the exporting of XMP, that seems to use only one, which is... well... 1/4 of the processing power of my mac :-) (hint hint Adobe!)
Anyway, let's hope tomorrow I can finally start working and seeing the new things that the release version of LR has. Have read some reviews and parts of the manual, and it really looks promising.
Thanks Sean and Geoff for the help with my corrupted library, I still haven't got answer from Adobe customer service (no surprise here, I'm still waiting for response or at least aknowledge from a case I opened almost 15 days ago...), but maybe it's better starting with a new library than reimporting an old one in who knows what conditions...

Well... too late :-)... as I said, it only crashed me once, and I really don't know why. I see that another thread is running, "Acumulating metadata" that I would like to stop, but it doesn't seem to stop. So far everything has been running smoothly, so I expect the 65% that still needs processing will end correctly.
If I get some problem I'll with smaller batches... but I sure hope this ends by itself. I still get the creeps of thinking of going picture by picture as I did some days ago trying to fix my library import issues...

My iTunes won't update, it starts to install then just says it can't. I decided to try uninstall it but it won't even uninstall anymore, there is some type of ERROR going on. I tried to just install iTunes from the website and that won't even work. I'm using a Windows Vista.

I just bought 15' Mac book pro. as i work a lot on Garageband. I even downloaded all the drummers and loops to update the new Garageband 10.0.1
now my problem is that all my past work which i did on older version on GB, has missing sounds in it. so here are my questions

2. Are JAMPACKS still compatable with the new GB?

Do you still have your old Mac?
How did you migrate from the old Mac to the new Mac? Did you transfer your old software and documents using Setup Assistant? Then your old GarageBand '11 version should have been migrated, and all your instruments.
if you did not migrate GarageBand '11, copy your old Instruments Library and Loop Library over from the old mac. Copy the following folders to a thumbsdrive and merge the missing dontents into the corresponding folders on your new mac: (from the system library - the top level library folder on your Macintosh HD):
/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/
/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/
And if you would like to continue to use GarageBand '11 for access to missing features, copy also /Applications/GarageBand over, but to a subfolder of Applications. I recommend, to install the old GarageBand as well. It can be used in parallel to GB 10.0, and will come in handy, if your old projects are having problems.

The JamPacks are nice to have, a terrific collection of instruments and loops, but if you did not have them previously, that will not help with your missing instruments. You can instll them by buying Mainstage 3. They work well with GarageBand 10.0

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

I am trying to play some videos from the internet and I get the message "missing plug in". I click on the message and downlaod adobe flash player as prompted. When I log in again to play the videos, I still get the missing plug in message. Any suggestions??
that used to happen to me all the time! I would recommend going to a different sight or attempting to download it again ( you may have missed a step it can be tricky).

So my iTunes Radio is not working and whenever I press or choose a station, it goes into the song it was going to play and goes back out to the stations menu. I have great wifi, great cellular option or whatever it it, So how do I get it to work again?

There is an issue with Photoshop specifically related to recent updates in which causes the licensing to revert to trial after a certain number of launches (typically 2-3).
The current workarounds are to either:
- Sign in with your Adobe ID again every few launches
- Uninstall Photoshop CS6 and then reinstall it but don't install any of the updates
The issue with the updates is planned to be fixed in the coming weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Water damage is totally unpredictable. If it was salt water the phone is definitely dead. If it was not you MAY be able to recover it by putting it in a sealed plastic bag full of uncooked plain rice (not quick cooking or "converted") for at least a week without attempting to turn it on. Better yet, if you can get silica gel easily that works better than rice. If you have tried to turn it on it may be too late for this. -
I have a slow startup or login, with numerious spinning wheels. Sometimes after a long ti,e I can sign into the computer and sometimes it just fails to startup or login. I have a MacBookPro OS X 10.7.5 from 2011. It became more serious recently as I think I might have let my battery run out I also tried to download the operating system to reinstall it but it allways stops around 1.4 GB out of 1.7 then the whell starts again.
Keep the MBP attached to the power adapter.
First try SMC and PRAM resets:

Then try to boot the MBP in recovery (OPTION key down) and select the recover partition. Select Disk Utility>First Aid and verify and repair the HDD.

Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data. Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!

How can I un-activate Lightroom 5? It also shows up on my Adobe Account and I'd like to have it removed from there. I am not going to be using the program and I want to give it to someone fully intact. Thanks... David
Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though. -
I downloaded a movie from itunes on my ipad. In the downloaded area where the movie should be, I only get a link to "iItunes Terms and Conditions", no movie. There is nowhere to accept the terms and condotions.
