After macbook pro update 1.0, OS X won't load.

So I just tried to apply the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 1.0 to my brand new MBP 15.4 and the screen went black when I pressed restart. Then I got a message stating that the update failed and could not be applied. So, I restarted, got to the login screen, logged in and it seemed like the desktop came up, except I couldn't launch anything. The dock was missing, couldn't figure out how to get it visible, my desktop background was missing, launchpad won't come up or mission control either.
So, figuring a reboot might fix it, I restarted from the apple menu and... nothing. I get to the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinner below it and that's it. It just sits there spinning forever, doing nothing, until I hold down the power button to shut down the MBP. So, I currently have a MBP that doesn't work. What should I do? I need to get this thing working for my job or I am screwed. Someone please assist!

*Update*
Tried Perform a Safe Boot didn't work.
Tried Reset the NVRAM / PRAM didn't work.

  • Macbook Pro 2010, new HD install, Software won't load

    Hello all,
Having some trouble with my 2010 500gb Macbook Pro 13" unibody, and Mac OSX 10.6.3 software. I was originally booting into the grey screen/spinning wheel so I ran it in verbose to get a look at what was going on. I was getting a diskos/2 error or something of the sort, and figured hard drive issues. I took it to the genius bar to verify the problem, and they agreed the hard drive had failed and needed to be replaced. I went ahead and replaced both the hard drive and the hard drive cable with a SATA 500gb mainstream classique and some off brand of the cable. I have been trying to reload my original software disk, and have been having some issues. I am forced to reload from an external optical drive, due to some issues with my Pro's CD drive. I have reset the PRAM, ran disk utility and checked the hardware, held option when loading, tried to boot in safe mode, so on and so on. None of it has worked. When I insert the CD to load, it will spin for a while, then the apple logo will come up with the spinning wheel, then the Apple logo disappears, the CD quits spinning in the optical drive, and a circle with a slash through it appears. It has done this multiple times. I know the disk is good, it will load in another Mac fine. My issue is I can't even get the disk to load. When I hold option upon the mac booting up, I can click on the Mac OSX install option, but it doesn't go anywhere. Just goes straight back to the apple logo. Any advice?
    Thanks.

If that were the issue, wouldn't I at least be able to open up the OSX software and get started loading it? I know if that were the problem, I would have nothing to select to save the software to... But it won't even open the software set up.

  • MacBook Pro displaying internet address but page won't load.

I restarted the computer and reset safari but it still continues.  I also deleted the cache.  It works at first when I turn it on for a couple addressed but then will freeze up again.  The web address displays but the page is white and won't load. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?  A friend suggested updated to Lion OX.

Which Mac OS X do you have installed and which version Safari ??
Try turning the router off for a few minutes, then turn it back on, restart your Mac, try Safari.
If you have Little Snitch installed, that can prevent pages from loading.
If you have anti virus software installed, disable that.
And turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security
Upgrading to a newer OS does not guarantee that it will provide a fix for browser issues.

  • Grey scren after MacBook Pro Update 2.0

I downloaded the last update but my Mac is still With a grey screen 1 hour after the restart... so... what can i do ?

If you have a back up, great. Try simply powering off then back on and see if it restarts to your desktop. Then check the About This Mac /  More Info.../ System Report and scroll down to the Software/Installations and see if the install took.

  • After 2.0 update, WiFi still connects, but won't load pages or any internet

So I had just used the IPod touch to hit some web pages, look at weather, stocks, youtube etc... an hour later....
installed the 2.0 update with the New York Times app, now I still connect to my access point, renewing IPs still work, It IS connected to the AP, but Internet based apps time out.
Example error: Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding.
I have rebooted, restarted, restored, and all the other things I've seen mentioned, but still can't get internet traffic. At one point I even tried connecting to the AP management, was prompted for ID and password, but then blank page.
    any help appreciated

Exactly the same here. Just noticed this in my local coffee shop (Neros) where I used to be able to log on to BT Openzone. Now, since updating to 2.0 version, I get the same error message as you i.e. I can find and attach to the WiFi host but cannot get any further than "Safari can't open the page because it is not connected to the internet" Tried re-booting to no avail. My WiFi works just fine at home, though. Really annoying. Any ideas ?

  • Mail crashes after MacBook Pro firmware 1.0 update

Ever since installing the firmware 1.0 MacBook Pro update, Mail crashes doing everything except starting up and receiving emails. In other words, if I click on a message, it crashes. If I'm lucky enough to be able to view a message, then it crashes when I try to reply, or file the message in a folder, or compose a new message. Help....
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Brad,
So many crashes for so many unrelated reasons indicate there is some corruption either in a file used by Mail (probably the preferences file) or in the filesystem itself. You should start by verifying/reparing your disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
If Mail keeps crashing erratically after having repaired any filesystem issues, then try this:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Make a backup copy of the HOME/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. In the Finder, go to HOME/Library/Preferences/. Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
You'll have to set up your accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don't. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in HOME/Library/Mail/ when done.
You'll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. The first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable "Display remote images in HTML messages" if it's enabled.
At this point, Mail may still crash for some reason, but it should be something more consistent and repeatable than the situation you've described. Post back with your observations.

  • After update to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 screen start flicking

I've just updated my macbook pro 15" retina with Macbook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 from App store (just this update).
After that, every time it goes on the screen saver or if I close it, I can't get it back on, the screen starts flicking black.
There is no away I can enter the password, even the keyboard is flicking.
I have to force the macbook pro power off and on in order to use it.
    The update is this http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1609
    How can I solve this?

Unfortuantely, right now there appears to be no solution except for restoring from a backup before Update 2.0.
Update 2.0 is a mess - you are lucky if that is the only thing it affects.  See: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20272989#20272989

  • MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0

A new update was released today for june 2012 macbook pro'ss/air's. Is anyone else hoping for gaming improvements/improved nvidia drivers? I just updated but havent had a chance to test anything yet. I would also be interested in seeing if battery life improved at all.
About MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0
This update includes graphics performance and reliability enhancements and improves compatibility with some USB devices.
This update is recommended for all Mac notebooks introduced in June 2012.

  • MacBook Pro Update 2.0 & Minecraft

I installed the new MacBook Pro Update 2.0, everything seems fine except if i press f11 to make MInecraft go full screen my mac crashes, anyone else have this problem?

A solution I've found that seems promising is to (sadly) force Minecraft to use the integrated graphics card instead of the Nvidia.
You can use gfxCardstatus (freeware, open source) to force using the integrated card: http://gfx.io
Of the main indicators that the nvidia card might be the problem was messages like this in the console after a crash going to fullscreen:

This is the sort of thing that is probably up to Mojang to fix, although I'm only seeing the problem playing feed the beast (which requires 1.4.7), and I haven't seen it playing 1.5.2 with the new launcher, so ths might also be the sort of thing that's just fixed by having the latest version.

  • Macbook Pro, update to Mavericks - internet sharing unstable (ethenet - WiFi)

Macbook Pro, update to Mavericks ->internet sharing unstable (ethenet -> WiFi)

Thanks, indeed there's not a lot there.
I was thinking that there might be a network reset option on my Snow Leopard Mac Book, like I've had a to do a time or two on my iOS devices that suddenly stop seeing the internet. Since I didn't know what that is, I set up a clean TEST user account. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to change anything, so perhaps the internet network settings are global. Any ideas how to reset the network settings and clear them out completely?
Hard to believe that there could be something so different between Mavericks and Snow Leopard as far as common network protocols are concerned that allows one to be plug and play and the other to connect to the network but not see the internet. Could it be the hardware? A 2007 MacBook vs. a 2011 MacBook Pro?

  • Installed MacBook Pro Update 2.0 *Problems Now*

Software update asked to install MacBook Pro Update 2.0 and now my MacBook Pro 13 2.5 i5 16gb Ram fails to wake from sleep when I open the lid, machine also hans with beachballs when tasking the Finder, switching applications, opening and closing them.
I have tried to repaid disk permissions, resetting PRAM, and booting with extentions disabled, the system still exhibiting the same problem.
Anyone have an idea how to get this fixed without wiping the Mac?
Anyone else experiancing this problem ?
    Thanks.

Yes as I mentioned in the first post, I did try that.
Apple told me I would have to ship the computer on my dime ( for the second time ) because they do not offer shipping exchange in Canada.
This is the second time I will have to pay the shipping cost for repairs on this laptop; it basically will have added $125 to the price.
    Really unhappy.
Probably will be my last Mac.

  • MacBook Pro Update 2.0 on MBP15R both HDMI and internal displays go black and useless

I installed MacBook Pro Update 2.0.  When I plug in an HDCP-capable HDMI monitor the MBP15R's screen promptly goes all-black and useless (except for a cursor arrow, which moves but does nothing) and the external display mirrors the same thing.  (The internal screen transitions through an all-blue screen first.)
How do I get my screens back?  MBP15R is mostly useless to me this way.  It worked fine before update 2.0.   How do I get this fixed?

I'm still reluctant to give up on that bricked machine... Since it is able to display part of the boot up messages of the arch install cd and the previously working installation showed everything until loading of the virtual console (at least that's what I believe it did when the screen went black), it looks to me that the problem lies in initializing a different graphical output. That would also explain why I was able to initialize X only with the fbdev driver... and the screen didn't flicker during boot-up when I did radeon.modeset=0 so I assume it stayed on framebuffer mode all along.
Does anyone know of a boot medium that boots into framebuffer video mode even though a GPU is present? All I'd need is a bash or similar shell. I can load into the UEFI shell with arch install CD, but I'm not familiar with that shell and it follows a different syntax than I am used to, as it is designed for an entirely different purpose. If anyone knows a boot medium that does not try to pipe the graphical output through the gpu (or the integrated i915 graphics). Must be something like this around?
