After major upgrade, still rendering really slow! Why?

I just did some major upgrading on my computer parts:
Processor - Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (Sandy Bridge, 4 cores 8 way multitask processing, hyper threading)
Asus p67 Sabertooth mobo
Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470
16 GB of RAM
OS: windows 7 (64 bit)
I tried a video that took forever to render before I upgraded my stem, this tutorial form video copilot:
http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/light_glow/
From start to finish, this takes 2:15 seconds to load after I hit the space bar for this 5 second clip. I think it was barely loading at 1 frame per second. I was expecting much better performance than this.
Ram preview takes 1:41
Are my settings wrong?
I thought I had the necessary components checked:
(previews)
-Enable open GL
----Enable adaptive resolution with openGL
-----Accelerate effects using open GL (when possible)
(memory and multiprocessing)
-Installed RAM: 16 GB
-RAM Available for AE: 13 GB
-Render multiple frames simultaneously
-----Installed CPUs (processor cores): 8
-----CPUs reserved for other applications: 0
-----RAM allocation per background CPU - 0.75 GB
-----Actual CPUs that will be used: 8

I tried the first step:
  installed RAM / GB
16
RAM To Leave For Other Applications / GB
6
Minimum Allocation Per CPU / GB
3
And got 0 performance increase. Still took 1:40 for RAM preview.
Minimum Allocation Per CPU / GB = RAM allocation per background CPU in After Effects right?
About to try the other settings after I read them.
EDIT:
-Turned off OpenGL for previews, still slowww
-Tried changing CPUs used for other applications to 4 and no difference. Still about 1:40

I believe my macbook pro hard drive is bad.  I erased the drive and reinstalled the OS and the macbook still runs really slow.  I dont know if the hard drive is the issue.

Did you try an SMC reset too? It's easily done and none of those resets to the best of my knowledge hurt anything. When I was fooling with my system, which at one point was a home made Fusion setup, I needed to reset the SMC sometimes to get the drives recognized. Reading the documentation the sudden motion sensor is drive related but that seems to be about it.
Some more specifics may be needed about the drive itself, the model number of your unit, and the OS version you're running.
At present, the problem seems sort of odd to me. FWIW cable problems can be quite intermittent. I used Scannerz to find some of the problems on my original system that I later converted to a new HD and SSD combo. It can find lots of problems if you learn how to use it right (HD problems, logic board system faults, and cable problems) but you need to get a system at least partially up and running to use it, and it doesn't sound to me like your there right now (in other words, don't go out and buy it because at this point I don't know how it could help you)
Another word of advice would be to not go out and start throwing parts at a problem unless you have a good idea what the source of the problem is. If you have a logic board problem, new drives and new cables won't make it go away, you'll just be wasting your money. Logic board problems, cable problems, and drive problems can all have very similar end user symptoms. The article that I linked above named "Hard Drive Problems" has a section on general symptoms of problems and if you read the article it becomes clear there's a lot of overlap associated with different types of problems.
I assume that your unit isn't under warranty. If, by chance it is I wouldn't even fool with it and I'd take it to Apple and let them deal with the problem. You also might want to check with whatever Apple sources you have available to test your system, like an Apple store, and see how much they'll charge (if anything) to evaluate the system.
    I certainly hope this helps.

  • After ICS upgrade Phone is very slow to make a call

After ICS upgrade , when I select a contact to call , and then press cell or home , the response time is very slow.
I have pressed the call button more than once thinking it did not take. Then when it does take I end up calling the person
more than once because it has buffered the calls . What can be causing this ?
If you have an answer Please email me at: Personal email address removed to comply with VZW ToS<     Thanks

Mine and my wifes thunderbolts have become horrible since the upgrade was pushed.  Apps are slow, or don't even load some times.  Trying to make a phone call is sluggish and at times it will try to call twice at the same time for some reason.
however, i overlooked all of this because i liked the look of ICS.  then last week after being pushed two updates in a row, it now will just turn off at random times.  i can't even go to a webpage anymore because it will immediately crash.  better yet, when i try to reboot the phone, it will get to the point where it recognizes the verizon network, and then just shut off again.  this happened to me 8 times in a row the other day.  it will also say that the battery is in the red, even though it had a full charge before the crash.
i have found that if i plug my phone in and then boot it up, it will boot up correctly.  that is the only way i have been able to get it to actually boot up since all of this started happening.  it will still show the battery is about to die, and then about 15 minutes later it will show it is at 100% again.
i tried to do the chat with a reprensentative today and the guy was asking for my account password before he could look into my issue.  what kind of company asks for a password.  that is the dumbest thing i have seen.  so now, i have a phone that "sometimes" works, and online chat that reminds me of a scamming site.
when my wife called to talk to someone they told her that it was htc's fault and that it would cost us $60 each to switch to new phones.  how is that customer service?  besides, verizon's network sent the update.  there is no way that they can try to say it wasn't their fault.  that isn't how the real world works.
i have reposted this from another thread, but since there seems to be someone from VZW reading this, perhaps some info can be found...

  • After pressing 'shift' , mac become really slow!

I realy got crazy on my mac....
last year i found that my mac's "shift" key was kept being pressed
so i sent it to Apple, and they fixed it
but after about 2 days of normal status,my mac become incredible slow.....
I cant even do my typing normally...
but this time i let a friend of mine to fix it, and he removed the ox system i had, repalced with XP
    the XP runs great
    but i didn't do much things in XP,cos  i don't like it
so i turn my mac into OS system again
    then my mac runs normal
but the whole things turned into a tragedy angain after i pressed "shift"
mac become really slow ,and makes out big noise!!!  I couldn't bear it , it's now the worst machine i have
is anyone figure out the real problem with my mac?
does it still a hardware mistake with my "shift key"  ?  i would be really appreciate if u can solve my problem!!

You should update to the latest version of Snow Leopard (it is now at version 10.6.8) and see if this helps. This will also install a number of security updates to help protect you from potential viruses.
The few other things I can suggest to try are:
    1) checking the hard disk by running "Verify Disk" in the Disk Utility program (see the Apple KB article at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782 for instructions)
    2) check and repair file access privileges (see Apple kb article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452)
    3) make sure the Startup Disk System Preference shows the Macbook Air's hard disk is selected.
Sorry I have no experience with Chinese input on the mac, however I did find this website http://www.yale.edu/chinesemac that may further help. Good luck!

  • I converted an mts file to quicktime to edit in imovie, but the video runs really slow  why is this ?

video play back runs really slow its all stick and not smooth why is this i thought macbook pro was fast for this stuff. or will it work better
    in final cut pro X

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • Streaming HD content to apple tv really slow, why?

Does anyone know why when I have fibre optic broadband, 100Mbps download speed that when I try and stream a HD tv show or film to my Apple tv (2) from either my mac or ipad it buffers and buffers, plays, then stops halfway through, buffers again for, well I have no idea because I always give up AND WATCH IT ON THE IPAD IN FRONT OF MY HUGE TV WHICH IS LUDICROUS!. I thought the apple tv started to play after it had calculated how much time it needed to upoad the rest of the film/tv show. On forums it's seems that it's ALWAYS the network that gets the blame, but mine is the best you can get and it still doesn't work. It can't be the network, I know using wireless is slower but at 50Mbps or 25Mbps it should still be fast enough, it can only be the Apple TV! I think it's the upgrades that seem to have made it worse and worse everytime there's a new one. Would it be worth resetting back to factory settings? or is there an obvious setting I need to look for?
    HELP IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!

    Hi,
I haven't because the BT hub is upstairs and the apple tv downstairs so it would be a long cable and not practical and the infinity ethernet port is being used for my mac. The thing is, it's sold as a wireless system and all you need is a good internet connection, apparently, cabling everything up is such a retrograde step. It all used to work perfectly, the only thing I can put it down to is the last appletv upgrade, that was when it seemed to stop working properly.

  • Adobe After Effects on Mac renders too slow

In one of the mac pro machines with 24GB RAM, Adobe after effects utilizes only 6% RAM during renders. we changed its preference settings too but still same status. Could any body suggest how to increase RAM utilization in Adobe AE 10.0 renders on Mac.

After Effects builds a frame at a time with the elements that are in that frame. Particle generators take more memory, but an HD Video Frame is only so big. You can't force the app to use more memory than is required for the frame that is being processed. CPU usage is another thing to consider. The more number crunching there is to be done the more cpu power is required. Some rendering operations don't require a lot of CPU power so not much is used. Then there's multi-processing. Only a hand full of plug-ins from third party developers are MP aware so you don't get that much help there.
Here's another thing to consider. The ram usage reported by AE is only the ram that is being utilized to process that frame. If you use up 100% of the ram rendering what is going to be left to store frames for playback?
The key to faster renders is to maximimize the data path to write the data and to minimize the unused data caused by scaling huge assets down to fit into a video frame. Until the basic way a video frame is digested and processed in AE you are not going to see full usage of all of your machine assets while processing video.

  • 2 weeks after expecting upgrade,still problems.

Ive ordered option 2 on 12/04/,should go live day after.Should.My estimate was 79,9 up,20 down. From that time,i have phone from Bt every second day, that is problem with supplier.Openreach said my line can be upgrade to 80 downstream, but it can handle only 10 upstream, and that is causing delete.Bt saying,i can have 20 downstream without problems.???

  • Why load my iPad after 4 hours still not 100%?, Why load my iPad after 4 hours still not 100%?

    My iPad recharges in 4 hours 97%, I want him to replace an iPad Air (my iPad is an iPad Retina Display) but I have my iPad not even a year! Helpp!! {I'm 10}

Unplug the charger and then replug. Will probably charge to 100%.
You may need to recalibrate the battery. Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

  • After ERP Upgrade online backup slow down

    Hello,
We have upgrade the system from 4.6c to ECC6.0 , after the upgrade backup is running slow on production. it could be because of Resource requirements for ECC. I would like to know how resource Consummation increase from 4.6c to ECC.
    ECC 6.0
    Solaris 5.10
    Thanks
    Atul-

    > I would like to know how resource Consummation increase from 4.6c to ECC.
Very difficult to impossible to state generally. 4.6c is an ABAP only kernel whereas the Netwaever 7.0 kernel has interfaces to HTTP and SMTP as well as a full internet transaction server integrated. As a rule of thumb one could say you'd need the double the CPU power (in sense of single CPU speed, not number of CPUs) to run at the same speed as your old 4.6c.
    > Solaris 5.10
    What's the output of
    psrinfo -v
    on your machine?

  • Moving Files to Trash in Mavericks is Really Slow!

When I say slow I mean 30-60 seconds slow and sometimes more!
I just did an update to Mavervicks a week ago. Usually moving files to trash would yield about 1-2 seconds. Now after updating to Mavericks its really slow!!!
My HD is not partitioned or anything of that nature. Is there way to resolve this.
    Many thanks!!!
    I'm on an Imac 3.2GHz iintel Core i3 with 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3

lots of issues. its fine now that snow lep is back on after a reformat. no hd issues or errors now, in disk util or tech tool pro.
    errors after installing mavericks:
"disk utility stopped veriifying the HD. the disk needs to be repaired. restart your computer holding down the command and R key until you see the apple logo...blah blah blah".
tried this. didnt work. their was no recover HD.. least it never showed up.
"incorrect number of file hard links".
"the volume HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired"
"error: the disk needs to be repairs using recovery HD. when the osx utilities window appears, choose disk utility".
could not verify or repair in disk utili or tech tool pro. format and reinstall of snow lep did the trick.
I'm just trying to find out what I did wrong or why id didnt work.

  • My computer is really slow.

It's a Macbook Pro 2.53 Ghz with 4 GB of RAM and a 500 gig HD with 31 GB free. Its also running 10.6.8 OS X. Do I need to free more space or need more ram? safari after clearing all cache is really slow... and so is skype.
Do I need to free space on the HD? Is time machine the same as backin up files can I do a time machine backup and then delete all the alrge movies? Or do I need more RAM or the new OS?
    Thanks,

See ds store's fine article - Why is my computer slow?

  • Start to print and then it prints really slow or stops all together. Desktop computer "Compac"

My printer is an HP DESKJET3050A ALL-IN-ONE J611 SERIES.  Operating system installed is Windows XP  No i have not made any changes

It sounds like the printer is not getting enough power or there may be a faulty ink cartridge.
To confirm if it is isolated to the printer or somewhere else, try copying a page to see if it is printing slow from a copy.
Is the printer connected to a surge protector?  If so, try connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet.  Did this help?
The next step is to look at the ink cartridges.  An easy test to see if the cartridges may be at fault is to try printing a text only document with the black ink cartridge removed.
Did it still print slow? It will still be slow since it will be mixing the colors to make black, but it should be faster than it was before if a faulty cartridge was at fault.
If it still print really slow with the black cartridge removed, try putting the black back in and removing the color cartridge.  Did it still print slow?
    Let me know what happens.

  • My macbook pro is running really slow after upgrade to Mavericks

my macbook pro is running really slow after upgrading to Mavericks....any ideas?

OS X Mavericks: If your Mac runs slowly
The above link is not very useful, so if it doesn't help read on.
There are many potential reasons that a Mac may be running slower than expected, but more information is required to begin troubleshooting, much more.
Back up your documents and everything else important to you before proceeding. It is premature to conclude your hard disk is failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
System performance problems for reasons that cannot be isolated to any other cause justify an SMC reset. Be sure to read the procedure carefully and follow all the steps exactly as written, even if they seem inapplicable or trivial.
