After Mavericks install, iPhoto, Garageband, not upgraded

I have installed Mavericks on three of my Macs so far, the last one would not upgrade the iPhoto (& Garageband?) to the associated version.
Apple online support (where I have a really great, helpful person) coached me through to reaching a real person--supposedly--but swayed by the 2 minute return call I clcked there and after 60 minutes am still waiting.
I tried calling, and the system insists on a $50+ payment for the privelege of dealing with a problem that should not exist.
I cannot find the online help again...
Does anyone have any ideas on how to address this when the "smart" systems won't let me in?

Drag the apps over from one of the other Macs. You don't have to download them to each Mac.

Occasionally it will recognize and download photos, most of the time though it hangs in "loading" mode with nothing downloaded. I've unplugged, replugged numerous times, tried a different USB port, tried the two cameras so it's not the camera or line that's the issue, turned the computer off, turned iphoto off, turned everything else off and stil nothing. I need my photos for my work and can't get to them, this seems to be an issue with Maverick AGAIN!!! Is there a fix? HELP! Thanks!

Thank you for your help Terence. I had 140 photos on my Nikon, none were viewable in iphoto, in Image Capture 5 were viewable, 135 weren't. I tried importing one to my desktop but it remained static and didn't move over. I just deleted all the photos on my camera, took a fresh photo and after waiting a good 4 minutes finally uploaded to both iphoto and Image Capture. As this took so long for one photo I'm wondering if the memory in my computer would impact the speed. I have 350GB used and 150GB left
By reformat the cards do you mean the flash card in the camera? I don't know how to do that, it's less that 6 months old.

Go to the printer manufacture website and download the drivers for your printer model for OS X v10.9 Mavericks.
Then open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
Select your printer on the left then click - (minus)
Then click + (plus) to add the printer.

Time machine won't back up after Maverick install

Installed Maverick today on macbook pro, then have been unable to back up to Time Machine to my Western Digital 3TB drive. Last back up was successful just before install earlier today.

First restarting after Maverick install I received an error message that the disk "my book" could not be repaired.
When I go to get info on the external drive, under sharing and permissions it sayes I can read only, and I cant figure out how to change this everything to try is grey'd out.
Any help in fixing the problem and understanding the issue.

Iphoto is not upgrading

Ever since I updated my Macbook Pro to Yosemite, my Iphoto will not upgrade. There is a sign across my iphoto and then it tells me to upgrade. When I go on appstore and try to update it, it won't update. It's been 3 weeks and I haven't found any way for it to update. How can I fix this? Yosemite is extremely annoying me now! I can't update my iphoto nor my imovie. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Move the current iPhoto application to the Trash bin. Go to the App Store and try downloading iPhoto 9.6 again.
What version of iPhoto were you using prior to upgrading to Yosemite?

Lost document files after Mavericks install

After Mavericks install from App Store, document folders located in Dock are replaced with question mark icon; unable to locate files in Trash, iCloud, or Finder.
While I appreciate feedback on backups, never have had issues losing files before when installing apps from App Store. Please advise.

I have the same problem. It just accured today, and i updated to Mavericks several weeks ago. I cant open several folders in Finder but when i right click on them it say that they contain eg. 5 Gbit... But i still cant see/open anything in some folders.
Also yesterday (right before i realised the Finder problem) my computer was slow and acting weird so I tried restaring it, and after it sayed that my start-up-drive (or somting like that) was nearly full. It wouldnt start propoly after that, but then after a few goes I got it to work... I have no clue whats going on really..

went to the mac app store, the upgrade page showed the iphoto upgrade, it downloaded and installed the upgrade but iphoto is still grayed out in the dock and in the applications folder. The mac app store shows the iphoto upgrade as being installed. whot should I do?

First, make sure the new copy of iPhoto was not installed as a separate icon in your Applications folder.
If that's not the case, try launching it anyway; I've seen instances where the icon fails to update until the associated application is launched for the first time.

What MacBook Pro do you have and how much memory and how much free space on the hard drive?
From the apple left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware and what does it show for Model Identifier?
You currently have Mac OS X 10.6.8 installed, downloaded 10.9.x from the Mac App Store? If so there should be an Installer for Mac OS X in the Finder, Applications folder if it has not yet installed. Exactly what does it give as the name for the installer and how big is it, should be a little larger than 5 GB.

I up graded my imac to OS X Mavericks now my iphoto will not work, it says there is an upgrade for iphoto available but will not let me upgrade with my apple id, can i delet iphoto and reinstall it with my apple id without loosing all my photos it was working fine till the OS upgrade.

1 - the iPhoto application and the iPhoto library (where you pictures are stored) are separate
2 - deleting the iPhoto application will not help
3 - if you log into the App store using the Apple ID that was used to install iPhoto (or set up the computer) you should be able to upgrade the application
4 - Apple ID issues can not be solved here - contact the App store support - link is on the right of the App store window

IPhoto ugrade won't complete after Mavericks instal

I recently installed Mavericks OS X 10.9.4 on my late-2011 model 15" MacBook Pro. At the same time, iPhoto was upgraded to version 9.5.1. When I tried to open iPhoto a message appeared that stated the photo library needed to be upgraded to work with the new version of iPhoto and that upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete.
I began the upgrade. The iPhoto upgrade proceeds to "step 4 of 11 (100% complete)" and then goes no further. I have left it at that stage for periods of more than 12 hours just in case the upgrade needed an inordinate amount to move past stage 4 (I have a very large photo library). But I suspect mere time cannot be the issue.
As a note, when I first initiated the iPhoto upgrade process, I believe it may have reached step 9 of 11, but appeared to stall there and then was interrupted. I have stopped and re-started the upgrade numerous times. I never get past step 4.
I point out that I maintain a second "test" user account on the same computer. I hadn't previously used The iPhoto application in that account, so it's empty. I switched to this account to do a test: The new version of iPhoto there opened without an issue and I was able to download a photo to it.
I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to overcome my stalled iPhoto upgrade so I can get back access to my photos. Thanks.

This morning I took your suggestion and started a rebuild of the Photo library. It took about six hours to do so, but when it was complete iPhoto was open and all my photos were accessible. However, only a very few of the thumbnails showed; the rest represented by dotted boxes. Because the computer was not indicating that any further activity was in progress, I thought perhaps the process was not entirely successful. I closed IPhoto and reopened it. Before it would open completely, it gave me the option of doing a thumbnail rebuild, which I did. About five hours later the thumbnail rebuild was complete and iPhoto is working again.

MIDI interface not recognized after Mavericks install

I was using a Midisport UNO with OSX 10.6, connecting my keyboard with the Mac Pro and using programs such as Live and Garageband. After the Mavericks install, I have a bunch of obsoleted hardware. I understand that Midisport have not come up with a driver to support Mavericks just yet. But that is not my issue.
Today, I purchased a new MIDI interface, one that is class compliant and so requires no driver software. According to everything that I have read, from external literature to the interface's literature, the device should work just fine. But my Mac Pro doesn't recognize the device in the Audio and MIDI Setup utility. In fact, it recognizes the Midisport UNO just fine but that device is greyed out and I guess this means there is no correct driver.
I have noticed that the Mac Pro seems to turn off ports when supplying power to USB devices. Sometimes, the front USB ports will not connect my iPhone to iTunes, for example. When I restart, the power sometimes returns. So is this a power issue or does my connectivity problem lie with the MIDI interface?

I just purchased a new iMac running Mavericks. I have an M-Audio Keystation 49e, I have the same issue. It won't work or be recognized in adui/midi setup. It is there, just greyed out. I have searched everywhere for a fix. All you find is delete this, delete that. It worked fine on Mountain Lion, now it is useless to me. I have tried running it through a hub, doesn't fix the issue. I use power as opposed to just the USB, doesn't fix the issue. Can someone please point us in the right direction so we don't have to go spend more money on a midi keyboard because of Mavericks?

Admin password not working after Mavericks install

I have installed OS X Mavericks on a Mac mini (upgrade from OS X 10.8). After the install I can't log in to the admin account using my regular password. However, the other account, not having admin rights, works fine in the Mavericks OS. But I need access to the admin account as well! How can I reset the password? I have no recent backup.

You should never be in the position of not having reasonbly current backups, especially before any major OS updates. Your data is more valuable than your computer and certainly more vaulable than a $100 external backup drive.

CDMA USB Modem Not Working After Mavericks Install

I use my LG VX9100 (Env2) as a CDMA USB internet modem, and it worked fine in Mountain Lion on a Mid 2012 Macbook Air and all other Macs I tried it with. After upgrading to Mavericks, I am not allowed to initiate a connection because the I get a message of "No SIM" after it tries to initialize from the menubar. The phone works fine and I have confirmed that all of the settings are the same. The phone is on Verizon, so the phone has never had a SIM card. This all worked prior to the Mavericks install, so it appears to be a bug. Any suggestions of what to try?

Hi, no drivers were required in the past, basically just had to type in the phone number as the account name followed by @vzw3g.com and enter VZW as a password and it would connect right up using the built in cell data of the phone plan. Only works with dumbphones as far as I know.
So, unless mavericks is subtracting features rather than adding them, the built in drivers should still be there. I have tested it with 10.6 through 10.8 and settings are accesable via the "Network" PrefPane and it always recognized it from a fresh install of OSX. The following article suggests that they have been built into OSX since OS 10.2:

That article was written in 2005 and said that some carriers would need a driver, but I know for sure that more were added since then as I have used built in drivers from 10.6 to 10.8.
Windows may need drivers, but mac has had most CDMA drivers built in for over 10 years now. The VX9100 uses a generic vendor driver, but OSX had selections for most major cell phone manufacturers built in for any custom requirements. There just doesn't seem to be a reason to get rid of the feature now.
Given the fact that it does show up in the menubar like it used to shows that the mac can tell that it is a modem and has the drivers there, but they aren't working properly.
