After migrating my share using robocopy destination share ends up being read only
I'm trying to migrate a share from a old fileserver to a windows server 2008. I use robocopy to copy and it seems like it copies the permissions and all of the data. I have done this at least 5 times (i checked the permissions and everything looks
the same as the source share) The problem is That the destination will become read only and i cannot take it off read only.
this is how im copying the share
robocopy C:\source D:\destination /mir /sec /r:1 /w:1
ive also tried it with /secfix ive also tried /a-:r
same result
its kind of like this

Hi,
I think it is caused by design.
In new systems, customized folders will show as Read Only and it will not cause any problem in accessing. See this article:
You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326549/en-us
If you still would like to uncheck the mark, see the steps provided in above article with the command "attrib".
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]
it does cause problems accessing the data. user's are unable to save anything on the share when this happens. any solutions?

After 10.5.3 update, Time Machine disk getting set to read-only
"The Further Adventures of Time Machine..."
Since applying the 10.5.3 update, Time Machine (or something) seems to be randomly setting my backup disk (external Western Digital "My Book Studio Edition" 500GB) to read-only which, of course, brings Time Machine backups to a halt. I can generally just restart my MacBook Pro and all is well again but then after a few more hourly backups, it will go back to read-only status again. There's a couple of things about this that are odd:
1) Even if I open "Get Info" and try to reset the permissions on the drive, I'm locked out of doing so even though I'm the admin. What's even odder (more odd?), my user and "staff" show read & write but about the user name list, it states "You can only read"!?
2) I have this disk partitioned and even the partitions are read-only. Disk Utility reports the entire disk is locked.
Like I said, this has only start happening since 10.5.3 update.
Regards,
TerryHere's the latest:
Also, the time machine back up drive had been smooth sailing since I hooked it up. Never had an ounce of problems until 10.5.3.
Format is Mac OS Extended.
Thanks.

Trying to share Excel files across two Macs, opens as read only
I'm trying to edit and save an excel file using my Mac Mini with the file located on my MacBook Pro. I've set the file sharing to read + write on the MacBook Pro and have created a file sharing user account. I access the Excel folder on the MacBook Pro from the Mini, sign in with a password. The file is an Excel for Mac 2011 that was created on the MacBook Pro. I can open the file on the Mini but it opens as Read Only.
I don't understand why I can't edit and save the file back to the MacBook Pro. Any thoughts?
Thanks
DouginNCNo, don't create it.
It is created by default in Macintosh HD/Users/Shared and has special privileges. In Finder from your "Go" menu > Go to Folder > and type in /Users and press "Go"

Opening Document's using Document ID (DocIdRedir.aspx) results in Read-Only mode
Hi,
The document doesn't have Edit option when it opens through the DocIdRedir.aspx?DocId.
Tried below below registry update solution and it doesn't provide the checkin/checkout options.
do we have any other option/solution to enable the edit button with checkin/checkout?
Request you please provide the solution.
Registry update Solution:
Add the following entry into the users registry.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Internet] "OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing"=dword:00000001
For a large number of users this would need to be done via Group Policy of course.
Thanks,
NeerenderHi Neerender ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open document in edit mode with checkin/checkout through the DocIdRedir.aspx?DocId.
For my test, if I configure my SharePoint 2010 to open office documents using the client application, when I open document through the DocIdRedir.aspx?DocId, the document will be downloaded , then opened
by the client application. So I can open it in edit mode.
If I configure my SharePoint 2010 to open office documents in the browser, when I open document through the DocIdRedir.aspx?DocId, the document will be opened in the office web apps and I can edit it by clicking
Edit in Brower.

Problem in displaying Thai fonts after migrating from Reports 2.5 to 6i
Hi,
We have recently migrated our reports from Reports 2.5 to 6i.
When we were using Reports 2.5, we could display The Thai Fonts correctly, but after migrating to 6i, the data retrieved from database is being displayed as junk characters.
In Reports 2.5 we had set a registry variable ORA_CHARSET_CONVERSION to NO_CHARSET_CONVERSION. We were using NLS_LANG as AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8IS08859P1 in 2.5.
If we change WE8IS08859P1 to US7ASCII for Reports 6i, the data retrieved from database is being displayed correctly in Thai fonts, but the labels become junk characters.
Do we need to do any special setup in 6i?
Nigam.Hi All,
Whilst doing the migration (and god knows how long this will take) I need to document the log file of all functions and changes made. The manual states that there is a PLG file created however, I can't seem to find it. I'm running the conversion one by one and not in batch mode. Can someone help me locating the PLG log file.

Hello, I am a beginner user trying to create a form using Adobe Livecycle. One of the fields I would like to make read only/protect it/password protect it after a user selects the date. For example, I select August 17, 2010 as the date. After I select it, I would like that field to be read only or protected so that another user can not edit it.
I am a complete novice using XML or codes. I'm learning alot from these boards though. I know its probably simple.
Any help is appreciated. The attached locks a text field if the date chosen is "08-17-2010". If it is not the text field is accessible.
// form1.page1.date::exit - (JavaScript, client)
if (this.rawValue == "2010-08-17") {
form1.page1.tf.access = "protected";
else {
form1.page1.tf.access = "";

Upload a value in read-only field using Webservices or Workflow
Can you please let me know if is feasible to upload a value into a read-only field using webservices or workflow
If so, can you please provide an example?
ThanksUsing WS, you cant update the field value, if it is set as "Read-Only" @ the object - Field definition level, but you can update that using WS if it is set as "Read-Only" @ the layout level. Same applicable to Workflows too

Samba shares no longer visible after migration to systemd
EDIT: Note the file server is CLI only.
I upgraded my file server to systemd about a week ago and have yet to get the Samba share visible from other devices within my network. Eveything worked fine under initscripts and other than system upgrades the only thing that has changed about the system is the migration to systemd and addition of the netcfg package. I can connect manually by typing "smb://<IP>" in a file manager address field but when trying to access the Share via browsing on two different WD media players, a Xoom tablet, typing "smb://" in the address bar of a basic file manager like Thunar or PCManFM or using browsing the Network or Samba Shares links in the Network place from Dolphin the share just doesn't show up.
The fact that I can access the Share directly, it's just not visible when browsing, makes me think samba is working properly but I'm not sure how to further diagnose the issue and I'd really like to solve the problem and learn something rather than just load up a previous image of the PC before the systemd migration.

Are your clients also using systemd?
Yes I do have a firewall, iptables, and it's the same configuration from before the migration to systemd. Also note that I can access the shares when explicitly defining the path whether that's in a File Manager, cli or other so access isn't being blocked. For lack of a better explanation the whole thing gives the appearance that although the Share is active it's just not broadcasting it's existence like it should be.
I have two PC's, both Arch, one with Openbox and one running KDE that I have migrated to systemd. Both can access the Share when the path is explicitly defined but don't see it when trying to just browse for the the Share. I have a Xoom tablet, running Android Jelly Bean, that exhibits the same behavior. I also have two media players, one an older WD LiveTV Plus model the other a newer WD LiveTV model, neither of which can see the share and browsing is the only option for those devices. So I've got a pretty good assortment of devices and operating systems that could see the share when browsing previously but can not see the same share by browsing since the migration to systemd on the file server.
Thank you. -
Sharing Breaks After Migrating Data Using ROBOCOPY
I am using ROBOCOPY (run from the 2008 R2 server) to migrate data from a Windows 2003 clustered array to a Windows 2008 R2 clustered array and am experiencing sharing issues at the new location.
Command Line: robocopy "\\NAS1W2003\Folder1" "\\NAS2W2008\Folder1" /S /E /PURGE /COPY:DATSOU /DCOPY:T /LOG+:"D:\RoboCopyLogs\Robocopy.log" /TEE /R:5 /W:0
If I create a new folder under the root of the new drive, sharing works correctly on it, along with applying sharing specifically to any sub-folders. However, anytime I move data with ROBOCOPY, as defined in the command above, and I share
the parent folder, ALL sub-folders show up shared as indicated by the Share Status at the bottom of the explorer window, but do not show up shared in properties. Also, when I click on the Share tab, the property window freezes for awhile before showing the
Share tab. Any attempt to alter sharing on these sub-folders is futile, even if I create a new sub-folder under the parent folder. Security is copyied correctly and sharing works fine on the copied parent folder, but is disfunttional on all sub-folders.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the behavior. Thanks for your input.Hi,
Robocopy should not affect Share permissions as it will not copy it to new location.
Please compare the Share permission in each server to see if there is any difference. Share permission could be found in registry here:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares
TechNet Subscriber Support in forum |If you have any feedback on our support, please contact [email protected]
Why do we have to export the registry from the old file server and then re-import the registry to the new file server when the server name is totally different?
can't we just right click on the folder and then share it as normally while the old server name can be edited from DNS CNAme ?

Whether using Oracle after migrating from MySQL be easy or not?
Though oracle is tough secured one, I don't know exactly the complexity of using Oracle database. Using MySQL 4.1.22 in my website https://www.puntercalls.com/ . Though the site is based on providing share market tips, it deals with a huge amount of stock market data and in much more real time basis hand-to-hand with NSE and BSE info which means a tough security is the utmost demand of the time.
My question is whether using Oracle after migrating from MySQL be easy or not. You can check my site at https://www.puntercalls.com/ for different real time data updation parts.
Kind suggestions are greatly appreciated in advance!

What can i do to fix it?
In the same time / parallel, when i open iTunes, a window tells me that: "com.apple.MediaLibraryService was closed unexpected". Is there a correlation?
The whole Problems begann Days ago, when i stupidly "played" at the rights and permissions for another "user". After a TM-Backup the Problems where there. It seems so that a few of my Picturefolders also weren´t recovered...

And both of the others wouldn't connect for a few minutes, but are now working again.
More suprising is that trying to log in to webmail (www.icloud.com) is giving a very unhelpful error message, suggesting the server is down. Everything else Internet is working fine for me, and haven't changed any settings, so fairly sure problem is Apple's end.
It's possible that your iPhone is collecting your mail via a different server route that is still working; my three iCloud accounts are collecting via p02.imap.mail.me.com, p09.imap.mail.me.com and p99.imap.mail.me.com, and it's only p02 that's consistantly not working. -
Impossible to access File server shares using a DNS alias
I am currently testing migration scenarios to replace 2 standalone W2K3 File Servers into 1 W2K8R2 Failover Cluster.
Everything went very well, shares are well accessible as long as I use the new File Server names, but...
... when I try to use DNS aliases (of the old servers), It is getting a nightmare!
First, each time I tried to to connect to the shares using the alias name \\tempsf\ I got an error message prompting for Duplicate name on the network.
I solved this first issue by applying the DisableStrictNameChecking
reg key (see below). The Duplicate name error message disappeared and I was able to access to the \\tempsf\ folder but it was empty however I have 2 shares well displayed when accessing it through the real file server name. Moreover, I confirm that :
ping tempsf resolves correctly the real file server name and IP
nslookup tempsf do the same
net view \\realfileserver displays my 2 shares
net view \\tempsf doesn't display anything :-(
Then, I almost tried everything currently documented :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters Add a new DWORD value called DisableStrictNameChecking and set to 1.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters Add a new Multi-String value called OptionalNames. Enter one or more aliases, one per line.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters Add a new DWORD value called DisableLoopBackCheck and set to 1.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0 Add a new Multi-String Value BackConnectionHostNames. Enter one or more aliases, one per line.
And also the SETSPN:
setspn -A host/<your_ALIAS_name> <ServerrName>
setspn -A host/<your_ALIAS_name.domain.com> <ServerNname>
But still nothing... Launch date is approaching, I am feeling so desperate...
Any idea? please... Thanks in advance,
Max
PS : Ahh yes, one more thing, we are using a third-party DNS here (Infoblox) but I don't think it could be the issue.Hello,
Configure my new File Server (new name, new IP)
Shutdown the old File Server
Map the mirrored SAN disk to the new File Server
Mount Storage and create shares (previously exported from old FS)
Update Alias to point to point to new FS (in Infoblox)
Update Reg keys, setspn and netdom as explained above
Try access. Shares well displayed when using new FS name but nothing when using updated alias despite dns resolution is ok.
I also found the following doc :
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2009/01/09/file-share-scoping-in-windows-server-2008-failover-clusters.aspx?PageIndex=2#comments which explain precisely the way the W2K8R2 File Servers are working but without giving any solution to my issue.
Your doc was interesting but didn't help :-(
Anyone else ? Thanks -
After installing iOS 5 I can no longer use my Print n Share app to print to my printer. It can not detect the printer. However, from within this app I can print a test page, but from within any other app it doesn't work. The Print n Share people tell me that iOS 5 restricts the use of Print n Share. What do I do now to be able to print from my iPad?
Risk_doc-
What a bummer! I just found out that Print n Share no longer appears as an option in the iPad print routine.
However, it still appears to have the ability to convert a document to PDF if you have the required upgrade. The trick is to get the document to Open In Print n Share. One way might be to mail a document to yourself using the iPad's Mail App, and use Print n Share's mail program to read it.
GoodReader has an option to Open-In Print n Share, as well as to share documents with another computer via a web browser. Perhaps that would let you transfer a document to Print n Share so it can then be converted to PDF.

Before I set up my wifes new Mac book Air I want to be sure I am doing the right thing. The main thing is that any changes I make to my iCalendar on my iMac or iPhone get pushed to her laptop and, when she gets one next month, her iPhone. Do I register her laptop in my name and use my Apple ID or is it better she has her own account and I publish my calendar through iCloud. I get the impression from the tutorials is that if I use iCloud she will only be able to view my calendar by logging on to iCloud and it will not appear on her iCalendar on her laptop or have I got the wrong end of the stick? Not so important is my contacts but I don't think you can use iCloud to share contacts, not the full address book anyway. Sorry if that's a bit long winded.
No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that. -
I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone
Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.
