After Mountain Lion, can't unplug and replug keyboard without restart
After upgrading Lion to Mountain Lion on my 2011 15" MBP, I've only seen one issue, but it's insanely irritating. I use an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse while sitting at my desk. Before ML, I could unplug my (Microsoft) keyboard (via a USB hub) and all other USB connections, go to a meeting, then come back and plug everything in just fine.
After ML, and without any physical hardware changes, now when I unplug the USB hub, go to my meeting, then come back to my desk, plugging the USB hub back in brings back all devices (mouse, drives, etc.) EXCEPT my keyboard. In order to make the keyboard work again, I have restart the computer. This works, but is insanely irritating.
I've zapped the PRAM. I've reset the SMC. I've checked for updates to the MS Intellipoint software (there aren't any), and I've run all software updates.
Any ideas on what else I might be able to do?

I had similar problem on both my Macbook Pro's. I tried all sorts of fixes and none of them worked. Sometimes it would take 5 minutes to reconnect to the Internet after being asleep. This went on for YEARS. Last month, I switched from ATT Broadband to Comcast. Problem GONE. That alone would have made the switch worth it. The extra 25 mbps I got is just icing. (Oh, and half the cost).

Thanks, SaraPlease read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode. Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I repurchased Garageband and I can't get passed the complete installation. I've read through several posts that all reference the "com.apple.garageband.plist" solution. I don't seem to have the referenced .plist. Any solutions or suggestions?

The property list stores your preferences, but also the settings from the last run of the application. If that file is corrupted in some way, you might see third behaviour.
You must have this file, for it will be recreated automatically, if it is missing, or you have a permissions problem with your user library.
Perhaps you did look in he wrong place.
in MacOS 10.7. or later the User Library is hidden. To find the Preferences Files use the Finder's "Go" menu:
Quit GarageBand, if it is running.
Click onto you Desktop to bring the Finder forward.
In the Finder Menu press "Go" and hold down the "option/alt" key, until your user library appears in the drop-down menu
Select "Library" and in the Finder window that opens navigate to the "Prederences" folder; move com.apple.garageband.plist to the Desktop.
Log off and on again (don't skip that step!). Retry GarageBand and see if it GarageBand is now downloading the missing content properly.
If that does not fix the problem, post back and explain in more detail what the download problem is.
Why did you "repurchase" GarageBand? If you already owned GarageBand '11, it should be unnecessary.

Java is no longer included in Mac OS X by default. If you want Java, you will have to install it.
However, note that you should think twice before installing Java for such a trivial need as looking at stock market quotes. There are other ways to get that information that don't involve Java, and using Java in your web browser is a HUGE security risk right now. Java has been vulnerable to attack almost constantly for the last year, and has become a very popular, frequently used method for getting malware installed via "drive-by downloads." You really, truly don't want to be using it. See:

I already reinstalled the Mountain Lion, but the error still happens. The only way to open these websites is with the private navigation.
Please, help me.From your Safari menu bar (top of your screen) click Safari > Preferernces then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If you still have problems with Facebook, go to the Facebook page then click the downward facing arrow to the right of Home then click Account Settings.
Select Security on the left then click Secure Browsing.
Select the box next to: Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) when possiblle then click Save Changes. -
Can iDvd be removed and reloaded after Mountain Lion loaded ?
Can I remove iDvd from Lion operating system and then reintroduce it after Mountain Lion has been installed?
If you are upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion, nothing should happen to your iDVD installation (or any other apps you have); but, to be sure, either use the retail install DVD method Colin mentioned (whatever version of iLife you have - iDVD is included in all of them) or have a bootable clone or Time machine backup before you upgrade (it's good practice to have one anyway).

Can't sleep after Mountain Lion Upgrade

After the first update to Lion, sleep problem is resovled. I am now at 10.8.1 and everything looks fine. -
This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion application is damaged, and can't be used to install OS X.
I attempted to burn a DVD of the installer, but that didn't work (files are too big).
Also grabbed the ESD from inside the package and it started to work, then hung on the "installing" screen.
Here is how I finally solved the problem after redownloading it 4-5 times:
Put my MacBook Pro into target mode and used my Mac Mini to install Mtn Lion.
At first the installer balked saying it wasn't signed right or some such BS. I tried again and it worked fine. I now even have a recovery parition which I didn't have before.
So in the end I have no idea what the problem was but it was not:
A proxy error corrupting the download
A corrupted download of any kind
Permissions errors
Hard drive errors
Incompatability with RAM or my hardware
Incompatibility of my partitioning scheme
I think there is a bug in the "pre-flight" checks the installer does prior to doing its job.

When you purchase Mountain Lion, you can install it as many times as you want on all your computers for free. To install it on the desktop, open the App Store, go to Purchases tab and download OS X Mountain Lion.
Another option is to redownload it on the MacBook, put the installer onto a USB drive and connect it to the desktop in order to upgrade -

Are you using the Office for Mac 2011 version, as you need to do? The Office for Mac 2004 is Not at all compatible with Mountain Lion, and the 2008 version has been noted to have some problems running with ML.

If the download does not resume, then Quit the App Store app and delete the partial download in your Applications folder. Then you will have to start the download all over again from the "Purchases" section of the App store.

For the last year I have been unable to use my iPhone speakers because of some bug. I can play music and audio through headphones, but that's it. And just today even the headphones became spotty. I'll play a song (through iTunes) for a while, then the audio will just cut out. I can get it back by unplugging and replugging the headphones (sometimes multiple times) but that fix doesn't last long; usually within a few minutes (if not much sooner) the music cuts out again.
