After my '2 years' if I don't upgrade I deserve a discount - the reason for the service contract was to pay off the cost of the "free" phone. Especially since there was a hefty penalty for cancelling before the contract completes. So now I'm effectively overpaying, right? And I'm not looking for some snarky comment to go elsewhere, this is an INDUSTRY WIDE issue. EVERYONE who pays off their phone deserves the discount.

Well, all been discussed before but I don't think there is an "official" position on this, and there are various competing interpretations. I think the one you discuss is simply:
1) Pay for a two year contract, for which you get two years of service at a fixed price, like many other types of contract. (And in fact you will probably continue to get the same pricing afterwards, unlike many other types!). In this model, the ETF is a penalty for breaking the contract and not giving Verizon the promised two years of revenue. In theory, you could keep your existing phone, and sign a new two year contract (to keep the pricing) and still be hit with an ETF if you left
The other common view:
2) As above, but with a subsidized phone, some portion of the monthly fee is used to pay back the subsidy. Now the ETF is charged because you haven't paid the subsidy off fully.
In some support of 2 is the different ETF for smartphones vs basic phones. This is a little murky because smartphone plans are probably generally higher than basic phone plans, but there is no ETF difference for a smartphone with 400 minutes (on old style plans) and a smartphone with unlimited, despite the big difference in monthly cost.
Some t-mobile plans are more like 2), if you bring your own phone, there is a reduction in monthly charge, so what the OP suggests does exist, just not on VZ.

Also found lenovospareparts.com, and although most of the product names are just product codes, I did find some lcd display covers, and I think mine would be $122.99. Take that minus the $80 I've already paid to send it in, that's not to bad. Who knows how much they charge for labor though. I don't get how nobody can tell me the price, yet sites like this exist, run by Lenovo, yet nobody at lenovo seems to know about it...
PS can anyone confirm the $80 I've already spent gets taken off the total? That's what the guy on the phone during my initial call said. His example: if the part cost $100, I've paid $80, so I would only have to pay them the additional $20.

Everyone is often so quick to bash all these 'cleaning' utilities but rarely give any solutions.
There's a lot of critiques and endless lists of what NOT to do to avoid performance problems.
My Powerbook is 3 years old. It runs like molasses... SLOW.
I'm not a computer geek, but I'm smart and understand quite a bit more than a newbie.

Yes, I know, the cleaning utilities suck. But is it really true of all of them?
I'm not totally convinced because there seems to be such a huge market for them.
Sure, there's a huge market for bottled water too, so maybe they are just useless/marketing crap, but I really want to return to my original speed performance quickly and can't seem to find out if it's possible with a utility.
I'm not willing to sit down for 3 hours and study line by line b.s. about how to fix it.
I have no problem if it's not fixable. I've always assumed operating systems outgrow their hardware's capacity to keep up, and sell my old one for a new one, no prob.
I don't care, really, but again, I'm curious if there is any quick, easy, user-friendly utility or method that I can use to return the speed performance I had as recently as a year ago? (I'd be satisfied with that).
Anyone willing to bite on that? Anyone willing to not critique, complain, tell me what NOT to do and actually know a solution?

Yep right on schedule.. 18months.. the power supply died.. !!
Apple will not repair them.. they do not recognise it is a problem.
If you have applecare on any computer the TC will be replaced.. all your files will go with it.. bye bye files.
If you don't have applecare or really want your files back.. a repairer may be able to help.. outside of apple network. Remember they don't have a problem.. apple said so.. !!

Why BIA is not stable after all these years? (old)

We purchased BIA (16GB blades) in 2006, implemented to our production in 2007 with Version 34.
It was a success; the first month BIA was hit 18K times. Today we are seeing about 300K hit a month (we're using 32GB blades with version 49. ). I can assure you that it was(and is)not a plug and play appliance, we have experienced every single BIA error existed on earth. Don't get me wrong; when it works it's an awesome product, I believe in BIA and support it 150%, this is why i am here spending my time.
3 weeks back, we upgraded BIA from Ver 48 to 49. After a week of quiet time, one of my blades went down for no appearent reason, that not only caused an outage for thousands of internal and external customers but wiped out the confidence that I have with the new version 49.
Today, I am "once again" sending apology emails to my users, customers, my boss, CIO etc about the BIA outage. Forget about preventing this to happen in the first place, but I don't understand why it is so hard for you SAP guys to identify the query that crushed the blade(s). I assume your priority is making BIA fancier - such as working on back-up and recovery - instead of making it stable, or at least more monitorable
It is very, very, very frustrating that after all these years that this tool is still not stable, in other words after all the feedback we gave to SAP, after all the times we spent together, we are back to the square one. Think about , would you be keep investigating to a car that keep stopping in the middle of rush hour traffic? So why should you pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a product that goes down every day?
Anyways, let me know if you know a way to find out what particular query brings down BIA without leaving the trace on 24x7 for days.

if you go to Usage -> Acess Statistics in TREXAdmin (Python), not all the columns are populated by default (at least in our case)
Like #unloads, #reads, waittime, #merges, # writes, #plans, input/output, # FEMS among others.
To collect this data, you have to activate additional level of stats.
Go to indexserver.ini for your masterblade. default is set to No. Change it to yes.

Unfortunately, there is no documentation available on what each of these values truly represent. So you are left on your own to interpret them as you like.
A discussion in this forum on how you read these numbers would be helpful though.
BIA Stability:
To sum up: BIA has the notion "It rocks when it works" in our company.
Some of biggest issues:
1. There are queries failing that BI team doesn't know about unless users report to us. But users have stopped reporting BIA related failures to us because same query completes successfully after 5 mins (when the temporary memory goes down again). so our users just rerun the quey after sometime rather than reporting it to us. Bottomline - BIA is NOT up 100%. we only know if a query has failed if we go thru the trace files.
2. As Arun mentioned, we too have some queries that dont work at all with BIA due to huge dataset sent back to OLAP. Eventually we had to turn off BIA for those queries.
3. It takes too long for back up to take over. In our case it took 75 mins before back up took over.
we would rather prefer to set a threshold ourselves on when back up should kick in rather than waiting for active blade to go completely down. Unless its a hardware failure (chances of which are pretty slim), back up would always wait for active blade to go completely down. what if an acitve blade is in hung state?

4. We dont know which query brings BIA down. (that what we are tyring to figure out using the stats mentioned above.)
4. Inverted Data model - we have some cubes which have master data tables bigger than fact tables.
For some, BIA works. For others, aggregates are more effecient. we are still not able to figure out, whats the difference?

If you want to upgrade the quality of a song in your library, you have to delete the library copy and download the matched copy.
Once it is downloaded, it will stay in your library even you don't renew Match.

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

Can anyone help me with my first or second generation ipod? I'm an old guy who just found my ipod after about 4 years. I have tried everything to restore it and I keep getting error messages. At first, Itunes finds the Ipod, starts the restore then I get an error message that it can complete it because it can't locate it. I don't have anything on it I need to save I just want it to swipe clean and then I will start again. CAN ANYONE HELP? Thank you!

Does an Airport Express wireless modem wear out after a few years?
Recently I've come home a number of times to find no wireless on my iMac, iPhone and iPad even though the airport unit is displaying a green light. Also, sometimes when I've left the iMac in sleep mode recently, I've returned and gotten either no signal or a prompt for my password, which is saved on the iMac.
Generally, rebooting the Airport unit and/or the devices fixes the problem – until it happens the next time.
I bought my Airport Express in late 2005. My mother, who bought her Airport express six-to-12 months earlier, is having the same problems.
Has anybody else encountered this issue?

I think some of the older original models did fail sooner. But that was a short lived period. Solid state electronics don't "wear out" - that's what makes them so reliable and great compared to tubes.
I thought mine was bad but I did what is called a hard restart of the unit. This fixed it. Caution though: don't do these hard restarts all the time. They will damage the unit if used too often.
See owners manual for how to do a hard restart. It's a bit tricky and involved holding in the reset while plugging it in. Read directions first. Also,try the soft restart options first before you use this nuclear option. But the hard restart seems to fix things for good once done.

How are you verifying it? Are you responding to the email that is sent? If not, do so.
If so, then try changing your password.

Here is the problem: The tab where you go to sync music to your iPod and shows the list of artists and songs you want to sync to the iPod, the tab I can get to but the list of songs and artists does not show up and the only way I can sync music to my iPod is to basically wipe my iPod and start from scratch. Obviously, I do not want to do that because I do not have all the songs in my library that I have on my iPod. I have uninstalled iTunes and then re-installed it, but it did not work and I do not know what else to do. I would really appreciate helpful guidance to get it fixed if it can be fixed. Battery damaged after just one year of use

I am a medical student residing in hostel.I bought my Lenovo3000N100 notebook in feb'2007.After just one year of very minimal usage, the notebook battery has failed and now requires replacement.
How can such a company as lenovo's battery expire after 1 yr of use of maybe just 1-2 hours of running time per day or even less???
Even companies like ACER n HP have given better performance of their batteries which my roomates are using 3years n 2 years running n still working fine without any complains to date.
This battery problem has created a negative publicity for lenovo in my hostel and now nobody in my hostel or acquaintance wants to buy a lenovo product seeing my condition.

What would it take for Apple to start working on this issue?

Yup. This is fully ridiculous that you can't cancel your updates once you start. I love the tool but this is on pretty significant issue.
Sometimes I accidentally move a mtg or make some edit while viewing and you can't back you!!
