After my daughter's Macbook Pro was fixed it asks for a username and password. She doesn't have one! Help!

The hard drive crashed on her Macbook Pro (bought it in 2011) so she brought it to the Apple Store to get fixed. Now when she turns it on there's a blue screen with the Apple Mac OS X sign-in box in the middle asking for her username and password. She has no idea what they are and there's no way to get around it. I'm asking here so she can hopefully avoid bringing it back to the Apple Store. Help!

Look at the manual for the router.  The password is on the router.  Then change the password in the router to something other than the default one and use that password when the iPod asks for it (it will only ask once, once it has the password/router combo in its memory, it will remember it)

  • My admin status has been changed to standard after the yosemite software update, now i have no admin and can't tso anything as before doing anything it asks for admin username and password, which i don't know as there is no admin!

admin status changed to standard, currently no admin, what to do!?

Please take these steps to restore administrator privileges to your account. This somewhat tedious procedure is only necessary if you've confirmed that no administrator account exists on the system.
If you don't already have a current backup of all your data, you must back up before taking any of the steps below. Ask if you need guidance. You won't need the backup unless something goes wrong—which is always possible.
    Step 1
Start up in Recovery mode. The OS X Utilities screen will appear.
    Step 2
Take this step only if you use FileVault 2. Launch Disk Utility, then select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the  Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
    Step 3
    Select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Select your startup volume if not already selected. Pull down the menu labeled
              Select the user account
    and select
              System Administrator (root)
Follow the prompts to set a password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9. I suggest you write down the password. If you don't write it down and forget it, you'll have to start over from Step 1.
    Select
               ▹ Restart...
    from the menu bar.
    Step 4
This step, like Step 2, applies only if you use FileVault. Log in as usual, then select
               ▹ Log Out...
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-Q. Don't restart. You'll be returned to the login screen.
    Step 5
At the login screen, click Other... Enter "root" (without the quotes) in the Name field, and enter the password you set in Step 3 in the Password field. You should now be logged in as root. This is a potentially dangerous condition. Do nothing while logged in as root except as indicated below. You'll be fine as long as you don't deviate from the plan.
Open the Users & Groups preference pane. Select your usual administrator account in the list of users and check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
You'll be prompted to restart. Do that and log in as yourself—not as root. Your administrator status should now be restored.
    Step 6 (optional, but recommended)
Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Disable the root user." You must authenticate in Directory Utility as "root" with the password you set in Step 3. Authenticating as another administrator won't work.

I have had about 9 iOS devices at work do this.
The fix and it will wipe out anything on your iphone is to connect it to your computer and have the latest version on iTunes open.  Hold the Power/Sleep and Home button till it blanks out.  Keep holding the home button untill it says recovery mode on the screen of the computer and do a restore.

Sorry, there is nothing you can do until the device is removed from the sellers Apple ID.
Without that, your device can't be used, check these articles:

  • KB2986204 - After installing users being prompted for a username and password

After client machine have installed this update they are now being prompted for a Username and password when launching outlook. Setting up a fresh copy of outlook also prompts.
Is anyone else having this same issue?

For anyone still watching this issue, we're now up to 5 updates that cause this behaviour, we're having to block these on WSUS to prevent our customers being prompted for passwords on domain joined machines using NTLM.
    KB2986204
    KB2899504
    KB2956087
    KB2956170
    KB2965270
Further progress since my last post in February. We upgraded to CU7 and now CU8 and the problem remains, but we think we have tracked the issue and have a case open with MS. If anyone else is able to test and confirm our findings it would be helpful to know,
below are the key aspects to look for:
    - Outlook 2013 has one of the above updates installed.
    - The UserPrincipalName ([email protected]) is different to the PrimarySMTPAddress ([email protected]) of the mailbox.
    - The computer is domain joined.
    - Mapi/HTTP is configured in the Exchange 2013 organisation.
    - NTLM/Negotiate is used as the authentication mechanism.
If all of the above aspects are true for your configuration and you are able to re-produce the password prompting try altering the Mailbox PrimarySMTPAddress so that it's the same as the UserPrincipalName.
In our testing the issue went away when the UserPrincipalName and PrimarySMTPAddress matched, not that it gives us a solution as our customers are quite attached to their vanity email addresses, but it does highlight a specific type of behaviour under specific
    circumstances.

  • Received a email from Apple stating that my Apple ID was used for a purchase not on my device. It had a link to cancel purchase but asked for my email and password which I gave then it wanted my credit card info! I didn't give that, what should I do?

Received a email from Apple stating that my Apple ID was used for a purchase not on my device. It had a link to cancel purchase but asked for my email and password which I gave then it wanted my credit card info! I didn't give that, what should I do? Do you think this is just a way to get my credit card information?

It sounds like a phishing email. You can't "cancel" purchases. You've now given them your AppleID and password, so you should immediately change your password to something new and very secure.
Also watch out for suspicicious activity on your account.

  • Ever since I updated to Yosemite my mac book pro keeps asking for Apple Id and password but will not accept them

Ever since I updated to Yosemite my mac book pro keeps asking for Apple Id and password but will not accept them.  What can I do?

Try the advice here. I had the same problem and it worked for me.
You have to delete the "SC Info" folder from /Users/Shared. You will have to use Terminal to enable you to see this folder first. Make sure iTunes is not running when you delete the "SC Info" folder
There is an article from Apple on this here. The "SC Info" folder contains iTunes authorization information.
I did this two weeks ago and iTunes accepted by login. I haven't been asked for my AppleID or password since.

  • My macbook pro i7 (2011 version) has a loud fan and high cpu % when I have Skype on or when I am on Safari. Help please!

My macbook pro i7 (2011 version) has a loud fan and a high cpu % when I have Skype on or when I am on Safari. My laptop would sometimes freeze for a while and it is usually hot. Has anyone else encounter this problem and know how to fix it? Thanks!

Skype is a very resource intensive activity...it has been reported on here users are seeing cpu temperatures on the order of 80-85 °C, within the limits of the cpu, but still hot to the touch.
Make sure nothing else is running so you keep the thermal load down.

  • How to get my apple I'd off a macbook pro with having to giv my I'd and password away

I had sold my macbook pro to someone and they say they can't update the computer without my I'd, the problem I am confused about Is when ii gave him the computer I already restore the computer to not need my apple I'd, is there anything he can do without me needed to give h my Id anddd password so he can update

When you sell a MacBook Pro, you need to give them the original OS that was installed on it when it shipped from Apple.  Any upgrades you purchased from teh Mac App Store (even the free "purchase" of Mavericks) is tied to your Apple ID.    You would need to restore the Mac to the original OS, then let the buyer upgrade the OS themselves.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13" or 15" for grad school and which storage size?

Hi everyone! I'm new to forums but was hoping I could get some help. I'm in the market for a MacBook Pro retina, but am having trouble deciding on both screen and storage size. I am currently leaning toward the 15" 256mb. I will be using it for graduate school, mostly for word processing/ppt but a little bit of photo editing (using Photoshop). I don't store many videos or music and tend to store pictures on an external hard drive. The reason I thought I wanted the 15" is because I like to have 2 windows open at one time side by side, so I figured the 13" would be too small for this. I have an iPad 2 that I would probably use for class and note taking, but I may end up using my laptop so I can use Microsoft word-- that's where weight and portability will come in to play and is the reason why I am still considering the 13". As for the 15" I'm open to upgrading to the 500mb but don't know if this is really needed. I would really appreciate any insight, especially from students using one of these notebooks for class. Thank you!

Apple's "Mission Control" feature allows you to open multiple desktops at once for the very reason you mention. You could have one window open in one and a second open in another. The trackpad additionally allows you to quickly switch from one desktop to another with a swipe of your fingers. This may not be preferable if you would still like to have all your open windows on one screen, but you quickly get used to the feature and once you utilize it, it turns out to be very beneficial and allows you to work with many open windows in an efficient manner.

  • MacBook Pro's iTunes incessantly asks for Apple ID, TWICE

For the past six weeks or so, every time I open iTunes on my MacBook, and every time iTunes was already opened, I close or minimize the window (not quit), a window appears with iTunes' request that I enter my Apple ID.  TWICE.  This also happens if I plug in an iPhone or iPod (because my preferences are set for those to open iTunes if plugged in.)  Is there a way to disable, or to set it once and not be bothered every time I want to listen to something?  Thank you!
