my iPod screen won't automatically turn off without manually locking... help!
Does anyone know how to change the settings so it will turn off/dim/lock automatically without needing to press the white button at the top all day?  I'm draining batter and it's so annoying!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
-  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Creative Zen ver1.21.01 - Screen doesn't always turn off when in lock m

The screen doesn't always turn off when we lock the player.
It's a random problem, maybe related to some screens only.
When playing songs, if we lock the player, the screen fades out a little bit and will turn off automatically after 2-3 seconds. But in some screens (try the System/Information by example), it always remains in faded-mode, even after more than 5 minutes.
    Thanks.

It dit it again yesterday, when my album finished to play (in lock mode), I opened my case and discovered that the screen was still on.
Maybe something in the process of the playing makes the the screen turn on automatically. I usually?use playlists, maybe the screen turns on when the?play stop?
I know that's not a very important issue, but for me it's "buggy"!
I have my player since week and it froze 3-4 time, so yes I had the "chance" to use the wonderfull reset button!

  • IPhone 4 iOS 7 lock screen won't automatically shut off after receiving a message

whenever i get a message on my iphone 4 (ios 7) the lock screen does not automatically shut off. it just stays on until i manually turn it off and it drains my battery completely! how do i fix this? it's really annoying.
    i have auto-lock set to 1 minute.

    Same issue here.
Noticed it on a iPhone 4 and iPhome 5S.
    Already running iOS 7.0.3.
Screen, last night three times, goes into lockscreen and seems to be stuck there. It won't go off (into suspend or how you call it) until you hit the button.
Not sure if it's messages related, since i didn't get any message the last "freeze" time.
I was running some apps, including GPS and Safari and whatsapp.

  • SBS Update Services not running because it automatically turns off... SBS 2011, WSUS 3.0 SP 2

I apparently don't have the "normal" problems here because I have tried all the usual fixes for this and nothing has worked. I really hope someone else has an idea for me. I have dozens of hours into this now and it probably would have been faster to P2V
this box then start from complete scratch with a fresh install, new domain, create new users, then copy over mail for users.
I can view & deploy updates from the SBS console, but I still get the error when attempting to view (change the software update settings).
Fixes I have tried (in order of attempt IIRC):
Checked all GP settings and "real" WSUS console settings/options probably half a dozen times.
"Repair windows server update services" technet article.
Server cleanup wizard and reindex database
Complete WSUS uninstall and reinstall (don't remember the source but followed directions to make sure WSUS was COMPLETELY gone before reboot, reinstall, reboot again).
    KB2720211 (fully broke WSUS)
KB2734608 (got me back to pre-KB2720211 functionality)
I figured KB945985 was a long-shot and after viewing the output log I had high hopes but no dice.
    Output log from KB945985:
    Changed database context to 'SUSDB'.
    Using SUSDB
No work to do. Record already exists.
Automatic Approval For Detection is already enabled
Target group of approval for detection is not "AllComputers"
    Inserting "AllComputers" group
    "AllComputers" Group added
Critical update is not in approval for detection classification
Critical update is inserted to approval for detection classification
Security update is not in approval for detection classification
Security update is inserted to approval for detection classification
Service pack is not in approval for detection classification
Service pack is inserted to approval for detection classification
I also uninstalled WSUS from an old database server on our domain thinking that may have been a problem (used to be DC, but that was two DC's ago).
I have not fully rebooted the server since the KB945985 script or the uninstallation of WSUS from the old old demoted DC, but I have restarted the SBS Console, SBS Manager service, and the Update Services service on the SBS 2011 server.

The error is the title of the thread.
    We have Server1, Server2, Server3.
Server1 is 2003 Standard. It used to be the DC many years ago but it was demoted now it sits idle as a VM on Server2. (Server1 holds an old database/program that gets accessed a couple times a year). I removed WSUS from this server. Something that never
got done when it was demoted from DC...
Server2 is 2008 Standard. It is a BDC and holds a database that gets used frequently, but only by maybe 3 users. Does not have WSUS installed.
Server3 is SBS 2011 Standard. This was a migration from server2, and I believe a bad one at that. Migration was before I started working here. Sharepoint isn't used, but everything else is. This is the server with the broken WSUS.
Yes, 945985 is for 2003, but I found 945985 as a solution to someone's problem with SBS 2008 so even though I thought it was a longshot I still did it because desperate times call for desperate measures.
I printed out the directions and checked off each step with a pen as I performed it. I don't think I missed any steps. (Not to say it's IMPOSSIBLE, but it is highly unlikely.)

  • After a software update yesterday my computer won't start up

Yesteday my computer downladed an update.  I shut down at work, then at home when I started it up a bar went accross the bottom completed and then the spining circle start up happened and it hung there.
I waited a long time and then tryed to restart, but it simply won't start up - comes up for a second and a bar flashes across the bottom and then shuts down.
I tride to boot from a Lepoard, and Snow Lepoard disk to run disk premissions repair, but it won't boot from a different disk?
    Any ideas woudl be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Paul

am i looking for the Leopard installer or the disc that came with my Powerbook all those years ago?
You are looking for the installer disk for the system which is currently installed on your computer, which is Leopard according to your profile.
Will doing these steps erase my hard drive?
No. Running Repair Disk will not in any way affect your data or any contents of your HDD. However, if there are serious directory issues your data might be jeopardized even without running Repair Disk.
Your question suggests that you may not have an up-to-date backup, if any backup at all. That is one of the most dangerous things you can do. I suggest that you take steps to secure your data even before you do much more. If you need ideas on how best to accomplish this, please post back and ask.
While you are waiting to locate your install disk, here is something you can do right now, and it will not in any way endanger the contents of your HDD:
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously later.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command + Option + P + R keys immediately after the startup chime.
    • Hold keys down until you hear the startup chime for the third time.
    • Release the keys and immediately hold down Shift key to start up in Safe Mode.
    • Log in and empty Trash.
    • Restart normally and log in.
Please do post back with an update or with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • My iPhone 4S won't stay turned off without being plugged into a charger . I reset it and nothing .. Help

    Please help !!

Clean the iPhone charging port with a clean dry toothbrush. See if better. If still problem and if there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up service and take to Apple. If no coverage, clean again with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol. If still problem, next step would be to replace the iPhone charging port with attached flex cable. Apple would handle this with Replacement iPhone 4S for $199.

  • ITunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?

iTunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?  And by the way, this is apparently a common problem and Apple has completely failed to warn in advance or offer a quick straightforward solution - used to be a good company, but it's becoming just another crappy screw-the-consumer corporation.

It would help to know versions here.  I'm guessing your update put an older version of something into a place where a newer version of something iTunes put in there existed.  Updating an earlier OSX version to 10.6.8 is still only updating to system software that was issued several years ago.  If you are running some slightly newer version of iTunes issued subsequent to 10.6.8 and you just updated to 10.6.8 you may have put in an older version of something iTunes uses.  Anyway, I'm guessing here until we know exactly what you did.

what do i do after downloading iOS 3.1 software and "There was a problem downloading iOS 3.1.1 software update for ipod touch. an unknown error occurred (8288). Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." comes up?

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!
    Tiffany
P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

10.7 was horrible unstable so I waited until 10.7.1 and tried it again. Well I have to say that it is still a defective OS. I am reverting to Snow as we speak from my carbon clone copy.. This is really the worst OSX I have ever used. It gives me random Kernel panics for no reasons, unstable airport and hundreds of small issues that are just not necessary. For instance I can't use QuickTime in Lion to trim a videoclip ( the UI goes mad and the trimslider becomes inoperable and hangs the Player window ) while in Snow it is no problem. Itunes gives me crackling sound when the equalizer is turned on, Graphical glitches in Photoshop, games crashing, Preview.app not working with some pdfs, so I need Adobes reader which I never used before.. It is definately not ripe for mass usage. Might 10.7.2 or 10.7.3 fix it, but not yet.
    * and just for the records : the hardware is absoltely ok. Because in Snow it works as it should. ( So many Lion fanbois are talking : "your Ram is defect", defintely NOT. - Lion is defect! ).
    Shame on you Apple.

I was downloading the software update for ipod touch 2gen and after it was done downloading it showed that there was an error with my ipod and when i saw it was on the lockscreen loading. its been like this for 4 hours already

What did the error message say?
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Safari won't load after latest software update

After the latest software update from Apple, Safari won't load. I've deleted the p.list and run OnyX to clean the system. It still won't load. This is a pain as Safari is my default browser and I have to get into Safari to change that. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

    Welcome Pauline;
Actually you can change your default browser from within Mail, just go to Mail preferences and set the default browser to whatever you want. Unless you have cloned your system (before the update)which I heartily recommend,
you may have to use Pacifist to extract Safari from
    the 10.4 installation package.
    Hope this helps,

  • 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black after a while. How can I solve this ?

My 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off (=stops the music) when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black for power saving mode. Does anyone know how to solve this ?
I have already tried resetting, connecting to PC/iTunes to check the software version, turning off/on, I don't have any inspiration anymore.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

    Hi VeerleD,
If your iPod touch unexpectedly powers off, you may want to use the steps in this article to troubleshoot -
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting (The steps apply for the iPod touch) -
    Specifically -
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
