After my text goes to Final Cut one part of it looks jaggy????

Hi,
I have a simple purple circle on a motion path- left to right. As it gets to the right it reveals text. The problem is; The black text on the circle comes out of FCP jaggy.
It looks fine in Motion, when I export the sequence from FCP to a quicktime movie, the black text over the purple circle looks jaggy. The other white text around their fades in and looks perfect.
If I change the text on the circle to white it is not jaggy. But that defeats the purpose of having the purple circle reveal the text, (when the text is black it blends in with the background)
I don't understand why the black color text is jaggy and the white color text is sharp?

Yes I changed the field dominance and the text in the circle had that slight jaggedness to it. So I didn't even compress it.
I have noticed that if I see a slight jaggedness on something in the quicktime movie, I don't even compress it because it comes out worse.
I just ended up changing the project

  • After installing some updates on final cut pro 7 is asking me to enter my first and last names plus serial number which i dont have. how do i go about this?

After intalling some updates for Final cut, I m asked to put my first and last names and serial number which unfortunatelt i do not have. how do i go about this?

To add to what BenB advised, make sure you have proof of purchase when you call Apple for a replacement serial number.
For future reference, it is a good idea to keep all software serial numbers in a database or text document.  Considering the cost of the software, keeping a list of serial numbers can come in very handy at times like this.

  • Interface text disappeared in Final Cut Express after upgrade to 10.6

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and now none of the interface text will display in Final Cut Express. (The top menus are OK, but no file or sequence titles, effects names, etc, within Final Cut project windows or the like.)
Immediately after the upgrade I was presented with several "Font Conflict" errors claiming that some fonts had to be moved to the trash because they conflicted with system display fonts, and I said yes. The fonts were Helvetica, HelveticaNeue, and a couple of others.
Any ideas of how I can get text back? Thanks!
    -i-

I was able to fix this by restoring my ~/Library/Fonts folder from a backup prior to the 10.6 upgrade. After a restart I once again received the following errors:
"There is a conflict with the _______ font file. This font file contains a font name that conflicts with a system font required by Mac OS X to display onscreen text. You should move this font file to the Trash."
The fonts it said were conflicting: Helvetica, HelveticaNeue.dfont, Lucida Grande, and Monaco.
This time I said "Allow Conflict" on all four dialog boxes and launched Final Cut... everything is back to normal!
Not sure what kind of "conflict" it's referring to, but apparently moving these font files to the trash as OS X prompted me to do broke a number of apps.
Should I report this as a bug?

  • Make Text Fit in Final Cut Pro 7

In Final Cut Pro 7, is there a way to make text fit properly on your screen without manually hitting enter on each line? I’ll try to explain myself: I frequently use screens with a lot of writing. I write the text in the Controls tab of a text box. If I write a long sentence, the words will run off the screen even if I change the size of the font to a smaller one. I can stop that from happening by hitting enter midway through a sentence; the remainder of the sentence then moves to the line below. Since I’m writing a lot, I have to repeat this process a lot. It is kind of a guess and check procedure because I have to see how the screen looks after I hit enter each time. Can I do something so that Final Cut Pro 7 automatically moves text to the next line (just like it does when I’m typing in Word)?
    Thank you for your help.

For best results, don't use FCP's built-in text generators.  Instead, use the Boris Generators which came bundled with FCP.  For static text, use Boris 3D.   You can format the text just about anyway you want.

  • How do you type on a text transition on Final Cut Pro X?

I am having trouble figuring out how to type on the ink splats title. Please give instructions that include where the buttons are, as I am just starting to use Final Cut Pro X.

Move the playhead to where the text appears. Double click on each word to edit the Title and Subtitle separately. You can also click on the words and drag them on the screen to reposition them if necessary.  When you double click on the words, you can also alter their respective text properties by going into the Text inspector and changing the available aspects for each text element (like font, size, etc...)

  • Where is my text box in final cut pro? I cannot change the default text at all?

Hi, as the title says, I use a default final cut pro title or ending for a video and I cannot change the text, all youtube tutorials just show that you click on the text box, the boxes appear, and then to the right in the text window you literally just type and change it, which ive done several times before, but I just got a new mac, and now that is impossible to do, what can I do? I dont want to upload videos that say, TEXT GOES HERE

    hey andy,
i think what you're gonna have to do is just hit command 4!
That should bring up the inspector where you can change the font!

  • Text tool crashes Final Cut Pro

    Hi all,
Has anyone come across this before? If I try to use the text tool in FC, trying to open the 'control' tab stalls and crashes the system. Any ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?
    Cheers,
    Justin.

    Hi,
Thanks for the good advice. I did find one faulty font. However, the problem remains. Funny thing is, I can't change the settings on text that's already on the timeline without causing a crash. I used a crash analyzer and it says Final Cut crashed because there's flash on the timeline! None there, of course, and the timeline is ProRes so there should be no problem.
Just got to finish these few videos before I upgrade to Snow Leopard. Any other suggestions?
    Justin.

  • After Restore from Time Machine Final Cut is Sluggish

I recently had to restore my iMac from a Time Machine backup. After that, Final Cut Pro 6 is acting sluggish... taking a long time to render... completely different than the speed it used to process at. I tried reinstalling but it's still sluggish. Anyone know why this may be happening and what I could do to resolve it?
    Thanks,
    Travis

Time Machine does not play well with Pro Apps like FCS. You said that you re-installed FCS. How did you do this? Was it with FCS Remover?
If you didn't uninstall correctly, then maybe the re-install did not take properly.
As previously stated you might need to start building your machine from the ground up. I believe Nick Holmes has guidelines for doing this. (If it's not Nick then my apologies to whomever created the guide). You can search this forum for it or maybe Nick may come along.

  • How do I preset a title text style in Final Cut Pro X?

I want to use the same title stye again and again in Final Cut Pro X - font size, style, color.
Final Cut Pro is happy to have me "Save a Preset to Library", but then I never see it again.   When I go to the dropdown menu, all I get is Apple's list of truly hideous fonts like 80s, Aqua Fade, Candy, etc.
I save my favorite style as "Basic" and that does nothing either - as soon as I add a new title and apply the "Basic" setting I get Apple's horrible Gil Sans again.  What's going on?
Any tips on how to perform what should be a very simple operation?  Have spent more than an hour on this now.

Well, Tom, I guess I'm just not as fortunate.  Anyone else have any suggestions?

  • Un-installing FCP 5.0, DVDSP4 and SoundTrack - going to Final Cut Studio 5

I've just recieved my Final Cut Studio cross-platform upgrade.
I have stand-alone versions/upgrades of Final Cut Studio 5, DVD Studio Pro and SoundTrack.
Can I just install Final Cut Studio 5 and it will replace all my programs with current verions?
Or do I have to un-install all programs before installing Final Cut Studio? If so, how do I un-install them?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you can just let them all be overwritten, it'll be fine. Some people like to keep older version of software around, but if you're not one of those, go ahead and do the default install.

  • Photoshop file with lots of text layers for Final Cut

I have created a photoshop file with around 20 different text layers. The sizing and the location of the layers is essential.
When my editor imports the file the text layers lose their properties (sizing and placement).
Is there something I should be doing to help solve this problem?
Can you use text layers between photoshop and final cut?

I would ask this in the 'Mac' side of the PS forum.

  • Is Final Cut Pro 7 more intuitive and easy going than Final Cut Pro 6?

I am a bit frustrated and feel that Final Cut Pro 6 is quite difficult to get the grasp of. Is FCPRO version 7 improved when it comes to being more intuitive and user friendly?

You should look at the Apple web site and see what's new in the applications. I can't tell if the features introduced in them will be worth that for you.

Click on one of your source clips in the FCE Browser to select it, and  once selected type Command + 9 to see the Item Properties for the clip. Either report those properties here, or take a screen shot of the Item Properties and post that screen shot here.
Next, click on the icon for the troublesome sequence in the FCE Browser to select it, and once selected type Command + 9 to see the properties for the sequence you are editing. • Text Tracking in Final Cut Pro 6?

    Hi everyone.
I'm working on an intro title sequence for this short movie I worked on. What I'm trying to do is have some text that stays with the motion of the camera. Below I have a screen shot. What I want to do is keep it on that exact spot on the wall even when the camera is slowly panning to the right. I know how to mask it out to look like he walks infront of the text but I was wondering what kind of approach should I take in tracking the text in that exact spot on the wall while the camera is panning.
    Screenshot:
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the family, Andy.
As Mench says, you want Motion Tracking in Motion. It's difficult so dig up some time to practice and try to be patient.
Couple of things that will make you future forum/index/help system searching easier:
Tracking, when applied to text, describes the space between letters. Related to but no the same as kerning, tracking in text objects can be keyframed so the text characters appear to grow apart or together.
Tracking, as a video effect, requires the use of the motion tracking feature of a compositing system such as Motion or After Effects. The accuracy depends on many factors but once an object has been motion tracked, the position data can be applied to another object.
