After opening a new document, the PDF sits there for almost a minute before I can perform any actions, such as "Save As". Why?
Why, after opening a PDF file, does the Acrobat Pro XI sit there, not reacting to any inputs until about a full minute goes by?

Is this file specific or do you face the issue with any pdfs?
What is the amount of RAM you have and the Background apps running when you use Acrobat?
Try disabling any 3rd party Non Microsoft applications and then check the performance.
You might also want to try in a new Admin account.
Have you updated Acrobat to v11.0.7?
Was this working fine for you before?
What OS version are you using?

My HP 8200 elite hang up on the HP splash screen for almost 3 minutes.
I have tried disabling startup items in msconfig and still did the same thing. I can't get into the bios on startup.
This is an HP 8200 Elite. I recently upgraded to Win 8, but this problem was there before that. I would suggest with a severe hang like that at the splash screen before and after the upgrade to Windows 8, there may be a hard drive issue. The symptoms you both describe are classic symptoms of a dying hard drive. Here are the steps to run the Start Up Test (taken from here):
Complete the following steps to open HP System Diagnostics:
Turn off the computer.
Use one of the following methods:
Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until the HP System Diagnostics program opens.
OR
Turn on the computer and immediately press the Escape key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup menu opens. Then press F2 .
The System Diagnostics window allows you to run several diagnostic tests. Each test determines if the hardware is functioning properly, and displays an error message and a warranty ID if there is a hardware failure.
4. Choose the Start Up Test and post the results in your reply.
The SMART Check, Short DST, and Optimized DST all test the hard drive. If any of those fail, the hard drive will need to be replaced.
I believe that your latest BIOS driver is 2.60 Rev 3. I would need your product number to be able to verify that. Here are the steps to find your exact product number. If you could give me your product number, I'll provide you with a direct link to the latest BIOS driver for your particular computer.

It just hangs on the grey log-in page, with the mouse cursor stuck in top left corner, and unable to key password into window, until after about 7 minutes.
I always close all applications and programs prior to shut-down, but it's as if something is running in the back-ground...

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -
How can I view and work on more than one document at a time? I've never had a problem with this but suddenly every time I open a new document the 1st one slides over out of sight. How do I get that to stop?

Here is a screen shot of two documents open side by side. Drag the first document to the left of the screen. Open another document and drag it to the right of the screen.
I have not had an open document slide from view. Puzzling!

i am currently running a trial version of indesign. i am trying to make a cd booklet. when i open a new document and try to find 'compact disc' in the document presets, it isn't there. all i have for options are 'default and custom'. is it possible to open the 'compact disc' preset from a trial version?

Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

After Creating a new document or editing an old document in Pages on my iPad I no longer see the changes in Pages on my iPhone. iCloud services are on with both devices.
Just thought I'd add my solution, I decided to go with WebDAV and I think it actually works better than the iTunes way, the steps are pretty much the same but avoiding the iTunes interface just makes things easier and faster.
I followed this guide but it does have a small mistake in the httpd-dav.conf file, on line 2, where it's WebServer/WebDAV">, it should be <Directory "/Library/WebServer/WebDAV">.
The tricky part is setting permissions which if wrong will give you errors when connecting with the iPad, I opted to set all to Read&Write since my home network has a hardware firewall. Another convenience was to add an alias to the webdav share on the Desktop.
I'm still expecting the call from Apple but even if they fix the iTunes I'm sticking with WebDAV, atleast until I see what's new with iOS5 and iCloud this fall which should bring true sync for documents (I'm hoping that they will offer encryption with my own keys, if not, then I'll probably keep using WebDAV). -
While working in Firefox is there a way to open a new window with one site when the home setting on Firefox has multiple websites?
I guess I'm not explaining myself fully. I have a home page designation in firefox preferences that starts firefox up with 5 sites. that pretty fills up my screen with tabs.
At some point I want to initiate another WINDOW in firefox (NOT a tab). I would like to be able to open up a window that ONLY has ONE tab, or as if there were only one site designated as the home page. This gives me a workspace that has my most useful sites available in tabs in one window, and also another WINDOW that I can move around in and even create more tabs without messing up my primary set of TABS (in my primary window). I see how this might not be doable without doing what I do now, which is open up a new window, and then close tabs until the new window just has one tab for me to work from. -
When I open a new tab, the new tab used to show shots of 6 or so of the last sites I'd viewed, so I could easily click on one and go to it. Now it shows a blank tab and I have to type the URL of the page I want. How can I change it back?

How do you open a new document from the template chooser?

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I can't find the option to open a new document from the template chooser. When I type in "template" in the help box it shows it under "file" But when I click on "File" I don't see that option.
Basically, I'm trying to ask how do you access the templates in the new pages?

When I link to an external site, the link does not work, if I right click "Open in new tab" the link works.
I have not changed any of my preferences and they look like they are as I would have left them.
I tried resetting Firefox and deleting the preference file, no change.
By the way, I hate that the tabs are on top and not where they belong above the pages they are for. There should still be a way in Firefox to put them back without having to use an add-in. -

You need to use a PDF reader that supports multimedia. Adobe Reader 10.3 does not. Adobe has not stated whether it will support multimedia in the future.

When I open a new document in Pages, the text I type appears white instead of the default black color. I can highlight the text, once I find it, but it will not change to anything other than a light purple.
Those are the symptoms many users ran into with an early update to Snow Leopard that never was fixed in the updates available through Software Update & not having the iWork apps updated. The problem was not whether or not your system is the current version but how it got there. You must use the combo updater, not the one from Software Update unless it specifically states it is the combo. Software Update will only offer the combo if your system is two or more versions behind. Now that you're running Lion, this generally isn't a problem.
But making sure the iWork apps are updated is essential. If you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work. -

I opened a new document in Pages 5.2 and a Pop up message appears; "the document could not be autosaved." First time I have seen this. Went to manually save the docement and another message appears; "the document "Untitled" could not be saved as "Project Portfolio" [my document title]. Then, Pages would not let me duplicate the document.
I suspect something may be missing and I need to reload Pages. Is there another way?
