after OS X Snow Leopard update. Why doesn't quick time doesn't load?

Try installing the 10.6.8 Combo update which contains all the latest updates for that OS.  Be aware that there appears to be no further support for Snow Leopard.

If you have done it before it will do no harm.  Indeed it is known to repair some minor blemishes in your system.

  • Nothing is installing after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Why?

I recently bought the new OS software and the installation was successful. But soon as I start to run my new platform I realized the applications were not getting installed. I mean, new applications (even Apple software like updates) are not finishing the installer process. Whenever I click "Install" the system seems to stop the process. The button turns greyed out for a little while and soon become active again. But it doesn't continue the job.
Does anyone have seen something like that? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Update:
This week I tried to solve this problem using the Disk Utility from the Snow Leopard. It showed me different results from the ones when I used the Disc that came with my machine (Mac OS X Installation Disc 1 - Mac OS version 10.5.4). When I ran the option 'Verify Permissions' the system returned something like:
"Warning: The file SUID "System/Library/CoreSer.../ARDAgent" was modified and will not be repaired" (I don't know the exact message because I have a portuguese version).
And other 2 entries which a directory on Applications folder had a write("w") permission and the system has indicated that the correct permission was a "-".
I did the 'Repair Permissions' utility and then I also performed a 'Repair Disk'.
After that I proceeded with a new install which was successful but the errors weren't fixed. I'm still not able to install anything - even the fix packs! Either I can't change from my Account to another or apply any modifications on the other accounts.
Right now I'm searching on Google the error described above. Also, I don't know whether this subject is directly linked to the main problem of my concern: the installation of new programs. If anyone has any hints or tips, let me know.
    My very thanks in advance.

  • After upgrading to Snow Leopard, Canon MX870 doesn't print text...just images

After upgrading to Snow Leopard (yes I know I'm slow to upgrade) my Canon MX870 isn't printing text. It is printing images but the quality if horrendous because it's not printing the black ink.
Here's what I've done so far
Installed the latest drivers for Snow Leopard from Canon
Cleaned the heads of the printer
Added new ink to all cartridges
Run printing tests (nozzle print patterns)...all good
Reset my printers in the Print Fax Preferences and added in the printer again
    Numerous restarts
Now I'm at a loss for what else to do. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
BTW, printer is connected via USB not wireless.

OK well I can see now that all of my files are present on the hard drive (mybook) only they are not showing up in aperture. It seems that there has been some sort of communication breakdown between the two.
As I said several files are missing and or corrupt in my aperture library. I'm wondering if there is a way to rebuild the library without using the vault technique? Does this make sense to anyone?
I was able to go into finder - mybook - aperture library - show contents and see that all my raw files at least are there. Now I just need to get aperture to recognize them.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
SL may have taken the initiative and quarantined what it determined were borked fonts and put them aside to avoid calamity.
Also, don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
That said, rumor has it that the next update will correct some spurious font handling....best to wait if housecleaning doesn't help at this time.

  • Applications quit unexpectedly after installation of Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I just recently purchased snow leopard and put it on my macbook which is currently operating tiger. It was purchased in 2006 and has a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The installation was successful, but once the computer restarted a message came up saying "the application quit unexpectedly." After hitting reopen 58904 times and it still not working, I decided to try and open safari. Once again I got the same message saying " the application quit unexpectedly." This went on with multiple other applications. Finally i decided to just downgrade back to tiger. I would really love to get my moneys worth on this Snow Leopard purchase. Can someone please help me understand what might have happened?

I am not sure what you mean by haxie programs from unsanity. I also did not try to make a different user account. What do you recommend?
There were some popular programs from a company named Unsanity that were written outside of Apple's programming guidelines. They took advantage of undocumented features in earlier versions of OSX (that's why they are called 'haxies'). Unfortunately, they've been a real problem for upgraders. They are not compatible with 10.6 (they weren't compatible with 10.5 when it came out, but some have been updated), and can cause many problems including some users not being able to boot at all after installing 10.6 - Make sure you are not using any of their products on your Tiger installation: http://unsanity.com/products/
Meanwhile, it's a good idea to do a little housekeeping before you upgrade to a different OS, especially when you jump a couple versions. I would use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions on the drive and use a program like SuperDuper to make a bootable clone of your existing OS to an external drive. I'd also be tempted to run a cache cleaning and general maintenance program like Onyx for Tiger: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/joel.barriere/dl/104/OnyX.dmg , or CocktailTE: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10385789 - You will need newer versions of these programs if you want to run them after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
You really should have 2GB or more Ram for Snow Leopard so that it will be able to run at it's best, and your hard drive needs more space during the installation that when it's completed. How much space is left on your drive?
You should probably take a look at these tips by those who have gone before you so that you'll understand what's happening and what to anticipate: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2202296
After installing SL, I'd download and use the 10.6.2 Combo Update as it seems to do a better job than Software Update for this purpose: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959 - You can download it any time and keep it on hand on the drive you are updating if you want.
With a few precautions like a bootable clone, and the ram, and the drive space, you should be able to run SL pretty well.
After installing the 10.6.2 update, I'd use Disk Utility to Repair your Permissions again, and then run Software Update to get all the updates for your Apple programs.
Be prepared for the new installation to act a little sluggish for an hour or so after you boot to 10.6 the first time. Spotlight will be working pretty hard to index your drive's files. This is normal and will settle down after a couple of hours and a couple of restarts, with new system cache files in place.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhone SDK 3.1.3 XCode 3.2.1 Snow Leopard update (lcrt1.10.6.o not found)

Today I downloaded the iPhone SDK 3.1.3 XCode 3.2.1 Snow Leopard update.
After installing it, I looked in the Project Info. In the Deployyment section, the "Mac OS X Deployment Target" is set to "Max OS X 10.5".
Naturally, as fussy I am, I changed it to Mac OS X 10.6, which is what I want. After Building, it reports an ld error: i.e.
ld: library not found for -lcrt1.10.6.o
Why does this happen? Did others have the same experience?
Is this normal or how to fix? (Other than the obvious step to go to look for the missing library and try to install it myself).

  • Snow leopard update lost iPhoto

    Hi
Sorry but the preamble is a bit long.
My son gave me his mac mini - great. Had installed windows on it instead of snow leopard (why???).
He had bought the Snow leopard update disc - Mac came with Leopard.
    I want Snow leopard.
I inserted the Snow leopard disc and installed it fine.
    Where has iPhoto gone?
I think it's on the original Leopard disc but it's not in the optional instals.
The Mac will not boot from the Leopard disc (I suspect because it's the previous OS).
    Can anyone help?
I realise that I should have installed the original Leopard disc before the Snow Leopard update.
    Thanks
    Chris

I am surprised that you were able to install OS X 10.6 without your system having a previous version of OS X installed - in fact, I thought that was impossible from the upgrade disk.
This is only true for the special Snow Leopard upgrade discs that are not retail products. One example is the white "CPU Drop-in DVD" that came with some Macs manufactured shortly after Snow Leopard was released or still may come with some refurbished older Mac models that Apple sometimes sells. All these Macs originally came with Leopard installed (& that is what their included grey system discs install). The "drop in" disc allows users to upgrade these Macs to Snow Leopard but does require Leopard to be installed first for licensing reasons.
I received one of these discs in the box with the refurbished 2008 20" iMac I bought from Apple. You can't mistake it for a retail disc -- although both are white & have the same Snow Leopard picture on them, the "CPU Drop-in DVD" label & the "not to be sold separately" notice make it clear it isn't a retail product.

  • Snow Leopard Update Broke 2 Printers (Samsung, Brother)

One of the Snow Leopard updates has broken both of my printers. Both are hard-wired network printers that previously worked fine.
    1. Brother HL-5250DN B/W laser
    - When I print HTML pages, the page background color defaults to black, so I get a solid black page with graphics stuck in. I first noticed this in Safari; changing the "print backgrounds" setting doesn't fix the problem. I then saved a page (www.apple.com) to HTML source and tried printing it from other apps. Firefox & Text Edit both had the same problem. MS Word (Office 2004) did not.
    - If I create a PDF file from a web page in Safari, then print it using Preview, the problem occurs. If I print it using Photoshop Elements, it prints correctly.
Note that images LOOK fine. The all-black background only occurs when printing.
    2. Samsung CLX-3170 Color Laser
No matter what I try to print, I always get the same error: "couldn't create rgb colorspace". I have searched both these forums and the web and can't even find a description of what might be causing this (although may Mac owners seem to be having variations of the problem).
    3. Troubleshooting -- What I have tried (systematically, multiple times)
    - Re-installed latest printer drivers from Manufacturer's sites
    - Installed Gutenprint 2.4 CUPs drivers
    - Repaired permissions
    - Reset the Print subsystem and re-installed all printers
    - Tried different printer drivers where available (the Brother has a BR-script driver)
    - Run OS X software update
    - Restarted my system
    - Removed printer-related items from Logon
    - Reset Safari
    - Run Onyx and cleaned all caches and nearly everything else
    4. I have an iMac G5 running 10.5.8. It prints all of the above to both printers with no problems.
At this point I'm starting to wonder how well Windows 7 might run on my iMac... (only half kidding).
I've wasted hours on this problem. I hope that someone at Apple has a solution.

If you are using the Brother driver, have you tried using the Generic PostScript PPD as a workaround?

Which driver are you using when adding the printer? Have you tried the other one? Samsung has SL drivers for this model, so you shouldn't have to use the Gutenprint driver.
I hope that someone at Apple has a solution.
Apple doesn't write the drivers, so if using the Generic PostScript PPD or switching drivers doesn't work, you might have better luck contacting Brother and Samsung.

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, Mail will not let me archive any mail. All archived messages re-appear in my inbox (I have tried archiving and placing in the trash bin). How do i regain control of my inbox?

The main differences that can cause a problem are scripting additions (64-bit vs 32-bit and security reasons) and the usage of dates (it is not as forgiving). AppleScript itself is basically the same, so if empty paragraphs are what caused your problems the update would have just been a coincidence.

  • Wireless network connectivity issues after upgrading to Snow Leopard

After upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6.4) I find that my wireless network will not automatically connect to my router (Netgear DG834G) as it used to. First impressions are that the macbook is finding a number of wireless networks but wants to connect to the one that is alphabetically first in the list. It also seems that the signal that the airport is receiving is weak, even when the macbook is next to the router.
Has anyone experienced this when they upgraded?
Any and all help gratefully appreciated

but a couple that I used with no problem before I upgraded now give me a "server not found" error after I enter my login and password.
Quit Safari. Open Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities. Select Passwords on the left.
Delete the keychains for the sites you have problems logging into AND the Safari Forms Autofill keychain. Now from the menu bar click Keychain Access / Keychain First Aid. Select: Verify. If necessary, select: Repair. You will be prompted for your admin password. Click Start.
Relaunch Safari. Navigate to a site. Login with your user name and password. That will create a new keychain for you.
If you still have problems accessing sites, go to Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete all cookies or just the one's for the problematic sites. Now try logging into a site again.
Even though you upgraded to v10.6.7 make sure Safari is up to date. From the menu bar click Safari / About Safari. If it's a version prior to 5.0.5, click your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update...
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Something there may be preventing you from accessing secure sites. If you have any extensions installed,  turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
