After OSX Updgrade and Restart, Can't Open Mail Application

The icon in the Dock has changed. It is now a stack of two white sheets of paper with a paintbrush, ruler, and penicil on them. When I click on it, it bounces once, and nothing opens.
I miss Mail!
Thanks.

It looks like you didn't install the latest updates properly. Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
Troubleshooting installation and software updates
Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, and no applications should be running while installing it.
Reinstall the Combo Update for the type of machine and the version of Mac OS X you're using, as well as any updates that you had installed right before the problem started to happen:

I'm going back to cs4 after using cs6 and I can't open nef files in camera raw.

Each camera needs a specific camera raw version (ACR).  And each ACR is tied to a specific version of PS.  See this list http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

  • Just updated to Yosemite and now can't open mail, or finder or others.  That wheel, just goes round and round

i just updated to Yosemite and now can't open mail or finder or other apps.   Wheel just goes round and round

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

  • Finder is unstable and i can't open the applications folder

    Hello,
I have a brand new 15" rMBP & I was just editing a file with Hex Fiend, when it suddely froze. After restart, finder is acting weird. I cannot reach the applications folder. Finder crashes and restarts every time.
Also, spotlight is not working. When i hit command space, it opens for a millisec, and then spotlight closes and the icons in the upper right corner disappears (except adobe CC and dropbox). They come back after a few seconds.
Every ten seconds, the battery indicator disappears and comes back the next second. If you are scanning for new networks when the icon disappears, the scan resets
What can i do to fix this? Please help!
I need my computer to be functional in order to work!
I've tried safe boot, but the problem is still there. Spotlight works though
Also tried to reset SMC, didn't work
    Tried reset SRAM, didn't work

Download the 10.9 installer (don't open it).
Either use Lion disk maker http://liondiskmaker.com
Or use Disk Utility to create a USB 10.9 installer (my prefered method).
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/08/make-a-bootable-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-installer-from -a-usb-flash-drive/
Once completed, insert into the MBP, boot holding alt then select the USB disk to boot from.
If it fails to boot try another USB port or try another stick - some USB disks just don't boot for some reason.
You can open Disk Utility one the system has got to the installer screen. Select the internal disk (the top level item in the left list). Erase the boot HD by creating a new single partition (Mac OS Extended + Journal). Select 'GUID Partition Table' in the Options. Apply that & all your data will be gone.
Quit back to the install screen & install. The installer should also add a recovery partition to the disk.
Eventually it will reboot to the clean OS. Take care with whatever apps you install, just get the newest versions

  • Can't open mail application

I'm not sure what happened to my Apple Mail application. I see an icon for it in the Applications folder and when I click it, there's the animation that suggests it's being opened, but nothing happens.
I've tried to reinstall it using the install cd that came with my Macbook, but nothing seems to have worked.
    Someone please help!!

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
When did the icon for the Mail app go missing from the Dock?
On the icon in the Applications folder, control-click and choose Get Info -- what version is reported?

  • I can't open mail application.

I just got the internet and am trying to set up my email with the Mail program. I cannot get it to open, in response to this problem, I have tried to reinstall the program. When I am attempting to do this it will not let me choose to install Mail, and when I place my cursor over Mail it tells me that I have a newer version already installed. I do not know how to proceed from here.

A warm welcome to the forums!
We can get past that you already stuff if we need to, but first launch Disk Utility and at leastr Repair Permissions and reboot...

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • After updating to Mavericks I can't open iTunes. I keep getting a popup telling me to unclick "run in 32- bit mode" in iTunes info. I have done that several times and rebooted. Everything else seems to be working fine.

After updating to Mavericks, I can't open iTunes. I keep getting  a pop up telling me iTunes needs to run in 64-bit mode. After following directions several times to go to Finder, iTunes, Get info and "unclick 32-bit mode" it still won't work and i keep getting the smae pop up window. I've rebooted several times also.

What version of iTunes do you have? The current version of iTunes for Mavericks is 11.1.5 and the default mode is 64 bit. If "Open in 32 bit mode" is checked and you cannot uncheck it are you logged on using an account with administrative priveleges?
