Cant open youtube in any browser in macbook pro

Hi. I have a macbook pro from 2010, I am still using snow leopard (10.6.8).
It was always hard to play youtube videos on Safari but I was able to get it work smoothly on Chrome. Then starting 2-3 weeks ago I cant open youtube site in any browser at all (safari, chrome, firefox..).
When i typed the site address and enter, all the browsers start like they might open the homepage, the loading bar in the address part starts a little but it waits and waits and never load more than that. Sometimes I get the "failed to open page" message at last (mostly on Safari). So I cant seem to make youtube work on my Mac. And adobe flash seems up to date so it shouldnt be a problem.
I encountered a discussion like this and it was advising to go 'hosts' file and delete the 'youtube.com' lines, I tried it but even i gave all the permissions -it wasnt permitted to make changes- to hosts file, it never saves any changes (it has another problem on that file to make changes i think). So i couldnt get it done that also. Does anyone have any idea about this? Thanks.

You have some sort of other problem and the /etc/hosts file shouldn't be messed with.
This is what it should look like and that's it. Anything esle is likely the result of malware or tinkering.

Cant open .mdi with any mac application

how do you open a .mdi format with a mac.. is it possible? i tried changing it to a .tif on my pc, but still cant open ... help

MDI files are Microsoft Office Document Imaging - a proprietary MS format
that I believe they were trying to get accepted in favour of PDF format -
it's a similar sort of philosophy, except that where PDF works on just about
every platform available, MDI only works in Office for Windows, v2003 and
higher (in fact, the MDI print driver appears to have been removed from
Office 2007). They are far more than " Microsoft's version of the .tiff
format".
Unfortunately, there are no ways to read these docs on a mac - even the
venerable GraphicConverter can't handle them. Can't you get your
correspondents to send the data in another format? Almost nobody I know uses
MDI. If they are scanned paper documents, then TIFF4 or PDF are far better
(and more widely available) alternatives.

i'm facing problem to open any app in my ipod touch from this morning- after clicking the app icon, it goes nowhere- i can open facebook using the safari but not through facebook app- same for rest of the apps!

Holding down the center/select button and the menu button will reboot your ipod. See if that helps. Also, I'd recommend something else- I had nothing but trouble with my ipod classic until I spent $20 to get Mac OS Mountain Lion. It did what you said and sometimes wouldnt play, or wouldnt power on...
Try rebooting your ipod and let me know what happens and maybe in the future obtain Mountain Lion to aide your ipod in functionality.

It was blackberry world earlier but latest is facebook app. I am not able to open facebook app. It just shows rotating circle. I updated the app...no result. I re installed the app, same result.

Cant open pdf files in browser

Cannot open pdf files in browser but can open from hard drive. Using Adobe 11.0.02 with Windows 8. Have uninstalled Reader and reinstalled and then restarted PC; Checked for updates; used the Repair selection on the menu. Frustrated. Suggestions?

After some running time I cannot download large files via any browser.

I am running OS X 10.9.2 on a 27inch iMac 2013 model.
If I keep it running (without sleeping) for some time, perhaps a week, I can no longer download any large files via any browser. It will start and after a very short time go down to 0 B/s, stall there and at the end aboft with an "Unknown network error" or something similar.
Has anyone seen similar problems?

I tried to open facebook in safari browser on my ipad and I keep getting message to update flash player. What should I do.

These last few days I found difficulties to open website on my ipad through safari. It was started when I tried to open facebook. There was a pop up message asking me to update my flash player. As per my understanding there is no flash player installed or used on my ipad. Please help to explain what is happening with my browser and what should I do since I can't use my browser right now. Use the Facebook app instead of trying to open Facebook in Safari.
Adobe has not made a version of Flash for the iPad.

Why does port scan show an open port for application I've never had?

I don't currently and never have used Bacula to backup my Macbook, but for some reason when I do a portscan it often shows a Bacula file daemon being open on port 9102. It also comes up in Netstat as listening, even with my firewall blocking all unnecessary connections, sharing turned off (all), and an Airport ex in front of it also secured. I also cannot find any related files etc. on my machine after a thorough search. Despite my best google and support searches, I couldn't find anyone with the same problem. Is this reason for concern? Either way why would it be there despite it not being ever used on my Mac? I am not well versed in networking, only know enough to get myself in trouble, so thanks in advance for any help.

Ok, I ran a port scan on 9102 and it show it's not responding, but assigned to (bacula-fd)
So what it appears to be is Bacula ( a legitimate program) uses this port, much like Screen Sharing uses port 5900, not necessarily that it's installed on your machine.
It's not uncommong to have open ports, it's so if you ever install the program or use a service it can gain access through the Firewall. You can change that of course to close up everything except certain ports for certain programs.
Now that the firewall is App based, if you don't have the app listed, how do you deny it access?
Well if the program isn't installed on the machine, it can't respond if the port is open or closed.
Simply enable your Firewall and allow the programs you do have and want to access your machine to connect in the Advanced settings.
There is also NoobProof and WaterRoof if you need a GUI/simplicity to enact more complex features of the command line firewall. Block IP addresses and everything. However read up before you mess around, Apple has everythign set up nicely and there are very few successful attacks on Mac's.
If you don't know what your doing, you can actually do more harm opeing up your machine to poential attack.
If your more paranoid, then install LittleSnitch, it's a outgoing firewall and notification software with pop-up window to allow/deny on a per program or request basis. You'll be quite shocked how much is going out in the background without your knowledge.

Why does Port Scan show an open bacula port?

The last couple of times I've run a port scan it shows an open port for bacula's file daemon. However, I have never had this program on my Macbook and don't back it up over a network (which is what I believe bacula does). Why would this be showing as an open port? How can I close it if I can't select it as an application? A complete search of my machine shows nothing even matching the name bacula except the webpages I've looked up about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"does not mean it is what is supposed to be listening on that port" - For example, a web server normally runs on port 80 (for http) or port 443 (for https). But you can configure it to run on port 22 for example, where an ssh server normally lives.
I mention this in case it is not bacula-fd running on port 9102. It's likely, but if you can't find bacula-fd installed, then perhaps it is something else.
To see if it is bacula-fd running, please paste the output of this command. Rather than answer your questions, let's first find out what is / is not running.

If it worked before reset preferences. Start PS and immediately hold down ctrl/alt/shift keys (alt/option/shift on mac). If fast enough you will get a reset window.
