After power up no display and is dark
Hello antkook,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367?viewlocale=en_US
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

I use my MBP 15 (late 2011) with 24" Apple LED Cinema display in a clamshell mode. After disconnecting external display, and opening display, it shows horizontal shifted bars, so it becomes completely unusable. Have to hard reset laptop. Any hints on how to resolve this? Thanks.
Ok, more information for anyone that might care. The wake-up seems to be the familiar dark wake in order to go into hibernate mode. Except now, it's a death wake. Looking at the logs, I see that it happens exactly 70 minutes after sleeping, even though hibernatemode = 0 (which shouldn't hibernate at all!)
So my power settings look like this:
Currently in use:
standbydelay 4200
standby 1
halfdim 1
hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage
darkwakes 0
gpuswitch 2
disksleep 10
sleep 10
autopoweroffdelay 14400
hibernatemode 0
autopoweroff 1
ttyskeepawake 1
displaysleep 2
acwake 0
lidwake 1
standbymode is 70 minutes, what a coincidence. I'm going to try setting it to 0 and see what that does. -
I am not sure what happened. I was printing, walked upstairs, came back down and the display and power LED on my Photosmart C310 were off. I thought the circuit for the outlet had tripped but that was not the case. I unplugged the printer, disconnected the power supply and let it sit for 2 minutes. Plugged it back in and nothing changed. Forced off printer/reboot?..nothing changed. Tried online utility. Useless. Is this common? Is there a solution? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Have had problems with HP and Compaq in past and obviously made a mistake buying again. Product is past warranty and I am not willing to pay to speak with a "representative" who is on a computer using a diagnostic tree program literally taking shots in the dark. Thanks but no thanks HP. I would love to Office Space this friggin' printer but I'll hold off for now..I experince the exact same issues and have for most of the time I have owned my C310A. I've gone through all the firmware upgrades, the useless patches etc. something is WRONG with the printer as my power modules continues to pump out the voltage after the printer shuts down(I've confirmed with a voltmeter). My printer will be printing a photo and the display will shut off, the power light and wireless LED lights go off BUT the photo continues to printer and the carriage will return to its resting spot THEN remain unresponsive till I go through the unplug routine. It's no wonder HP discontinued this printer and I'm throughly disgusted at tthe lack of quality in the components. I('ve gone through at leat 5 HP printers in the last6 years, each printer failing to either power issues or ink delivery systems. There is a very obvious lack of quality control. I feel as thoughHP sells the shoddy printers to force continual upgrades and flow of ink sales. The design and engineering and features of the C310 A is to be commended but the qulaity and reliabilty of the mfg. product is abysmaly horrible. HP once had a solid quality control methodology that was second to none now its just too little and too late.

I push the power button, and it turns on, but there is no startup chime, no video display, and after 30 seconds, the fans spin up. Any ideas?
G5 has these hardware issues:
-- bad capacitors on logic board
-- bad capacitors in power supply
-- badly soldered video chip
-- "There were several Mac models with flat panel displays that had bad displays.
Most had serial numbers beginning with "W8"---the code for one specific factory.
This affected PowerBooks as well. If that's the case, the rest of the computer
is probably fine." by Allan Jones in

Plug in USB or FireWire on Cinema Display and it turns off display power
Just recently, my monitor lost power. After checking everything, and putting in a new video card, I have discovered that the monitor works, as long as I do not plug in the USB or ForeWire cables on the end of the monitor cord into the Mac Pro. This is 20" Apple Cinema Display. Plugging in either one turns off the power to the display. Unplug them, and it is back on.
Very simular, although your cycle count is higher.
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 337
Condition: Normal
Even though you are out of warrenty they may still have a look at this for you in the store as Apple are renowned for great aftercare . -
Running FF 5.0 on Win XP Pro. Several web sites stopped displaying properly overnight without a computer shutdown or FF shutdown. One of the sites is a banking site which displayed normally until after login when it failed to display and there was a message saying best viewed with CSS turned on. I've restarted both FF and then the computer and FF to no avail. Tried both No Style and Basic Style Views with no change. Did not do a power off full computer shutdown and restart yet. Has only happened in FF 5.0. Never happened in previous versions.

IMac 27' Mid 2011 display flickering and going dark
Having bought an iMac 27' in may 2012 I was confronted with a flickering of the screen and the display eventually going dark for a certain amount of time.
Unfortunately the first level support wasn't helpful and the second level support rather rude.
Have taken the iMac to the seller I was told they would have to change the display for € 700,-. Apple would refuse to extend the one year warranty though other people have encountered the same problems obviously after checking in different support forums.
So did anyone find a cheaper solution then just to exchange the whole display? Having to spend half the prize of a new iMac can't be the answer.Yes, the light comes back after a few minutes or half an hour.
Will try take a screenshot when the display is off again as soon as I get the iMac back from the workshop.
I have decided not to spend so much money on the replacement of the display for the moment. If the light goes off more often I will buy another display (probably a non-apple-product with a better warranty) and connect it to the iMac.
As much as I love the concept of the apple products and the idea of an All-In-One computer (it's my 7th apple in 25 years), I really disliked how they treated me as a customer with a valid complain.
If it just this little cable why would Apple replace the whole display? I'll check if I can fix it myself then. -
MacBook Pro won't stay awake with external display AND power connected
I've been using my MacBook Pro with an external 23" Apple display for several months, always with the lid closed and with no problems. Suddenly, I can no longer keep the MacBook awake when its lid is closed. *The AC power IS connected.* I plug in the display, close the lid, wake the system with my external keyboard, but then it will quickly go to sleep again after a few seconds. No matter what I've tried I get the same behavior.
Perhaps coincidence, perhaps not, I installed the Leopard graphics update a few weeks ago. Could this be a cause?Apple did actually acknowledge this as a known issue with people running 10.5.2 with the graphics update, and are investigating it. There's some further discussion at this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1394449&tstart=0
Anyway, what worked for me was powering down, connecting my external display, keyboard, etc., powering up, and immediately closing the lid. It seems to behave better now, though I haven't rebooted since, although I have switched back and forth between running with the external display, and running without it, without any problems. -
Macbook Pro dark screen after disconnecting from Cinema Display
Dear all,
the issue I am having:
- after disconnecting from Cinema display (having first put my Macbook Pro in "sleep" mode) I just ca't make the Macbook pro scren show anything....black display
- but is it really asleep? NO!!! It just STILL believes it's connected to the Cinema Display
That's what I though was happening, so I thought: "if I now plug in the thunderbolt-to-VGA dongle that I use for the videoprojector then the screen might come back... and.... Voilá! It comes back, BUT starts flickering until in the end it just dissappears....
I can reproduce the error all the time. Worse than that: a reboot does not help at all.
Looks like there is an internal hardware switch that must be left "engaged" and then the Mac just believes it is connected to an External screen and sends the signal though the thuderbolt port instead of through the screen!!!
WEIRD error/bug or whatever!!
I have no idea how to make this reach the Apple guys.... I tried to report a Bug but they asked me to join in as Apple developer which I just can't do (for working issues).
Can anyone tell me if they have had this problem, and whether Apple is taking care of it?
(this reminds me of an issue with an internal switch with the headphones in my old MacBook Pro.... after disconnecting the headphones, the internal switch was not being disengaged, so sound would NEVER come out as it was being sent to the headphones instead of to the speakers... Same problem here but with the Image??? :-((( )
Thanks a lot.

Can you check - when it happens - if in System Profiler > Hardware > Graphic > Quartz Extreme is listed as 'supported'. I found it to be 'not supported' when the scrolling and display behaves strangly. Also the Menu Bar is not transparent any more.
Next to rebooting, logout and login again fixed the issue for me. But I am also looking for a better fix/explanation.

After installation of latest Bridge and Photoshop version (2014.2.2) *.CR2 files will not be displayed correctly anymore, neither in preview nor in Camera Raw dialogue.
Some pictures have white squares with blue and red diagonal stripes that cover almost the complete picture.
When opening those files I have the same problem in Camera Raw dailogue and even in Photoshop eventually.
I tried to open the same same pictures on another computer with the same version of Bridge and Photoshop but the problem remains the same.
It seems like the files itselves are still ok, because if you open an explorer window the previews of the pictures are all ok. And the pictures' sizes remain the same.
I tried to clear the cache in both programs but it didn't help.
Has anyone an idea????First see if a reboot of your PC helps. If not,
Resets may be in order:
Photoshop: Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop. If you get the keys down quickly enough - and you have to be VERY quick - it will prompt you to confirm deletion of your established preferences, which will lead to them all being set to defaults.
Bridge: Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears. Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.
Outdated graphics drivers can also cause display problems. Go to your GPU maker's website and be sure you have the latest drivers for your card model. -
I have I-phone 4S - Since updating to IOS 6, when at home with Wi-Fi network with my I Phone connection is not responding sometimes – for example if I want to check my G-mail it shows loading but nothing happens and after few minutes it displays “Cannot Get Mail” – The mail server “imap.gmail.com is not responding, Verify that you have entered the correct account info in mail settings
Other times the Wi-Fi connection works fine and it check e-mail or other within few seconds. The connection problems seems to be intermitted
This issue never happened before with IOS 5 since I bought the new phone in Oct 2011.We suffered the imap.gmail.com server problem After an IoS 6 upgrade. The simple solution is to delete the problem account, shut down the iPad, start up again and reenter the account. Everything comes back normally. Good Luck everyone!

My iPad won't charge after plugging into my computer and after holding down the power and home button at same time for 10 seconds… Can anybody help? Has IOS7.0 but not the most up-to-date version
It's just the battery sign - nothing else. I've tried to reboot by holding down both power and home key for 10+ seconds, waiting for the apple logo - but nothing happens. It's plugged into the imac at the moment. I tried to recharge it overnight using the normal charger - but no luck. It went dead during a Skype call with a friend - even though it was powered into the mains - albeit at a low battery level at the time

My Ipod nano touch is not charging, not showing in my PC or laptop. Last I saw an apple icon and low battery signal. There after the screen is black and no power not taking AC or PC charge. What Can I do?
If the Reset didn't work, you'll need to do a Restore.
From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finished, you will be asked if you wish the contents of iTunes to be copied to the iPad.
