  • ITunes won't open after QuickTime update (Windows XP)

    Hi all,
Yesterday I was prompted by Apple Software Update to install the newest version of QuickTime, and I always comply. However, after the update now iTunes will not open at all! No error message, just the hourglass cursor for a few seconds to indicate that it's loading, then a regular cursor... and then nothing.
I tried connecting my iPod Touch since it's configured to auto-sync upon connect, still won't open. I then googled the problem and came across some methods that I don't want to try just yet, since they involve reinstalling iTunes. Also tried uninstalling Bonjour from the Add/Remove Programs menu, but this apparent solution did not work either.
I run Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 32-bit. This started happening after I updated to QuickTime 7.7 (from 7.6 I believe). Is there a fix for this problem without reinstalling? If possible, I don't want to lose my library settings. Thanks!

Could you check something further for me please, df? Is your QuickTime Player also currently failing to launch (with or without an error message)?

  • File vault home folder becomes ejectable after QuickTime update

I have two user personalities on my Mac - an administrator and a normal user.
The normal user has an encrypted home directory using FileVault.
I just installed Apple's 9/9/08 QuickTime update and the updater seems to have destroyed a few things. I ran the update from inside the user personality, typing in the admin password.
After the restart, my home folder is now ejectable. That was the first curious sign.
Also, no browser other than Safari works any more. I also have Camino and Firefox on this machine and both can no longer be started. This seems to be related to the QuickTime updater and I assume it is related to running the updater from a non-admin account...
So how do I get my system back to normal? It is very puzzling and potentially dangerous having the "eject" button next to your home directory....
    Michael

looks like you have a number of problems. the best would be to restore your system from a backup to a point before the update. if you don't have a backup you should first of all start backing up. no idea what's wrong with your browsers but for the filevault I would first restart and see if the problem remains. if it does I would try turning filevault off/on. You need quite a bit of free space to do it - at least as much as your home directory holds and then some.

  • Applications won't open after Quicktime Update...and fix won't work!

    Hello,
I'm having the same problem as many others: after the recent Quicktime update most of my applications won't open.
I've followed the instructions from Apple at
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306043
However, when I do the "sudo" prebinding thing, I get this:
update_prebinding: error: dependent dylib is not prebound
    update_prebinding: error 256 running updateprebindingcore
    Any ideas?! Thanks!

  • Problems after quicktime update

I had been putting off installing an update to quicktime cause it normally does me no good to update... but I went away from my normal ways and did it. Now something is wrong.
I updated my quicktime... then my iTunes stopped working... Then I uninstall iTunes, then try to install the newest download on apple.com... It gets to the part with quicktime and has some error and falls out... So i go to uninstall quicktime and i get some fatal error... Now i can see im going to have fun with this, so I get quicktime off by manually going into regedit, and using a microsoft cleaning program, and a registry degrag program that cleaned up all the itunes and quicktime fragments hanging in memory.... after that I go ahead and install the iTunes + quicktime.... everything goes great... yea sure lets go ahead and open it once install is completed... NOPE "Itunes has encountered a problem please tell Microsoft about this" dialog box opens.
Whats next? I removed all programs, cleaned up fragmented registry files, did a clean and new install downloaded minutes ago, installs, but it just wont boot up, the computer has been restarted already so whats next?
I have done this clean install and go around and screw with quicktime files and manually deleting them EACH time i try a reinstall because this program just wont leave.
My goal is to have iTunes back... any suggestions?

Okay. That rules out one complication if you didn't previously have one of those installed. (With some versions of them, "QuickTime" componentry is installed on the PC which can interfere with an upgrade to a higher version of QuickTime proper.
So let's try completely scraping out the existing iTunes and QuickTime, and then doing a careful staged reinstall of the two programs.
    *Preliminary phase*
Download and save copies of the standalone QuickTime installer and the iTunes installer bundle to the PC. (Don't install them just yet.)
    Latest iTunes Installer
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (We'll be using it during the uninstall phase of proceedings.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
    *Uninstall Phase*
Switch off antivirus and antispyware software prior to any uninstalls. Attempt to uninstall both iTunes and QuickTime from Add/Remove Programs.
    1) *If Add/remove doesn't let you remove a program:* Use the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the installation configuration information for the program. (Launch CleanUp, find the entry for the program in the list of programs displayed in cleanup, select that entry and then click "Remove".)
    2) *Even if Add/Remove lets you remove one of the programs:* Run CleanUp anyway, and look for any leftover installation configuration information for the program. If you find any, remove it with CleanUp.
Next, we'll try removing any leftover program files and folders (if present).
    For QuickTime:
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    For iTunes:
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the iTunes folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    Now, restart the PC.
    *Reinstall phase*
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Start the QuickTime install by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier. Once that completes, restart the PC.
Start the iTunes install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe you downloaded earlier. Once that completes, restart the PC.
Now try launching iTunes again. Does it launch properly this time?

  • ITunes 7.6.2 won't open after Quicktime update! Help!

    Hello,
I just updated Quicktime through Software update and now iTunes won't open. It bounces in the dock, stop and shows the light underneath in the dock, the colored disc mouse spins for 10 or 15 seconds and then it quits before any windows open. Then the Apple error comes up saying iTunes unexpectedly quit etc.
What do I do? I've tried reinstalling iTunes but nothing works! Help!
    Thanks in advance.

Could you check something further for me please, df? Is your QuickTime Player also currently failing to launch (with or without an error message)?

  • ITunes not working on IMovie after Quicktime update

I am running IMovie 4.0.1. The operating system is 10.3.9. I just updated Quicktime to 7.4.5 (v67) The Player is v25. I can’t play my ITunes (7.6.2 (9)) music on IMovie any longer---it was working perfectly with the last version. Any suggestions? Can I reverse the update to Quicktime?

    Hi
I have had exactly the same problem with my windows vista 32 bit. I installed the new itunes 9 and have not been able to launch it. I have followed all apple's advice but no luck. It is now beginning to really annoy me as there are so many others that are having this issue and there are no solutions.

  • Choppy video after Quicktime update

    Hi there,
I recently updated to Quicktime 7.0.4 because iTunes 6.X required it to work properly. Unfortunately, all of my iMovie HD projects now run very poorly making them hard to edit and review. The movies vary in length from just under 2 minutes to 18 minutes.
I have sufficient RAM and hard disc space so my guess is that this has to do with Quicktime and/or imported music from iTunes. Do I go back to Quicktime 7.0.1 and give up iTunes (kind of unrealistic) or is there another solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
    John

I found that I only have this issue with songs in ACC format (songs I've downloaded from iTunes) and not songs in MPEG-1, Layer 3 format (songs I've copied from old CDs I own or have converted). I converted the ACC songs to MPEG-1, Layer 3 format in iTunes, and the problem is solved. I've tested this with multiple songs and found this solution to work.
I'm not in front of my Mac at this time, but I know I converted the songs to MPEG-1, Layer 3 by burning them to a CD from my library in iTunes. I then set my preferences (it was on the Advanced tab I think) in iTunes to import (I think that was the button) in MPEG format versus ACC (the default). I then re-imported the songs from the CD. Then went to Advanced->Convert to MPEG and converted the songs. That created a second song in my library that was in MPEG format. You can verify that by highlighting the song and going to File->Get Info in iTunes (I think that is the option). Then use MPEG version of the song in iMovie and see if the playback is better. Again, I've tested this multiple times and it has worked for me.

  • After quicktime update to 7.2 can not watch MPEG clips

I upgraded my previous free quicktime download to 7.2 and all of a sudden I cannot play anymore MPEG's. You just have audio playing but no video. There's no screen poppin' up, just the bottom of the player as you'd play a soundclip. I tried reinstalling the player and changing settings but nothing helps. Let's say I'm not a computerwizzard so I might be doing some stuff wrong somewhere. If anyone could please help me with this.
    Thanks

I have the same Problems, working with an imac i7and cutting files from the sony F5 in thee XAVC Codec.
The only way to fix the problem ist to go back to Premiere Pro CC 7.0, this is the only version I can work with.
I have phoned several times with Adobe, and the the last answer I got is, that nobody knows why this is so like it is... the guys in the customer center are really no experts, the only experts Adobe has are in India and you can´t call them... so long you have to work with the Version 7.0 it works well... ask the guys in the customer center to get this Version...

  • After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update, I can no longer access the itunes store and my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?

After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update I can no longer acces the itunes store nad my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled windows updates. I have checked the firewall settings. what else?

The problem is with version 10.4.1.  I had to reload 10.3 to get it to work.  The recommendation from a previous poster worked for me.  Here was their list of steps:
    Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall
    2.  Uninstall the following Apple programs in the following order:
         a. iTunes
         b. QuickTime
         c. Apple Software Update
         d. Apple Mobile Devices Support
         e. Bonjour
         f.  Apple Appllcation Support
    3.  Reboot PC
    4.  Find, Download and Install iTunes 10.3 (you can find it at FileHippo.com)
If you start iTunes now you will get an error message saying that the current iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes.  To correct this:
    5.  Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file
    6.  Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.
    7.  Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder
    8.  Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date.  It should say "iTunes Library.itl"
    9.  Reboot PC

  • My JPEGS are no longer being copied over to Finder.  Only a random fraction are copied.  It use to work perfect.  Is there a bug in the updated versions of iPhoto?

My JPEGS are no longer being copied over to Finder.  Only a random fraction are copied.  It use to work perfect.  I can move them 4 or 5 at a time, but it is very time consuming.    Is there a bug in the updated versions of iPhoto?

OK - here is what I've done in the past.  As I want to be able to save my photos on  a DVD that can be read by both a PC and a Mac, I am burning them in Finder.  I start by downloading into IPhoto.  I'll flag and edit the ones I want to print or post to the web.  After that I want to take all the keepers and move them from IPhoto to various files I create in the document  section of Finder.  I've done it both ways in the past, copy and paste or just drag over, all the files would transfer over.  Now there may be dozens of pictures that do not move over - very random, in one case there were only 6 photos and the 3 vertical ones did not copy over.
I'm wondering if this is a software issue or if there is just too much data being moved around.  FYI there are 2 Nikon cameras I use and the files from both do this.
    Thanks

  • After downloading latest quicktime update, itunes store will not load

Has anyone had this same problem after downloading latest quicktime update. iTunes store will not load.

This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes.   I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation.

  • No function after iTunes/Quicktime update

After restarting my G4 Power Mac when the iTunes/Quicktime update had installed, my screen went to blue and froze. I did a hard reboot and now any program I open quits within seconds and I can't open any of my folders! When I try to open something, everything but the dock (toolbar and desktop icons) disappears and come back in a few seconds. Is this an iTunes issue or is there something else going on?

Try booting in Safe Mode. Hold down the Shift key during startup. If that doesn't do it, try holding down the X key during startup. If that doesn't start it up, I think you need to post over in the forum that applies to your particular machine (iBook, MacBook, iMac, etc.) The pros over there might be able to help. Don't hesitate to post back if you have more questions.
