After quitting DU

OK 1 more question, After upgrading to tiger ive noticed after running DU for say like repair disk and after quitting DU i click quit and computer restarts, but ive noticed on tiger after the restart a little window shows up with the HD icon and network folder, is this normal? And whats it asking me to do if anything (or what should i do) Im thinking i should click the HD icon but not exactly sure or can i just close it without doing anything?

Sounds like you may be booting up to StartUp Manager?
Try opening System Preferences and choosing your StartUp Disk panel. Then choose the volume you want on startup and restart.

  • Premiere Pro crashes after quit - Mac OSX Lion

    Greetings,
    Symptoms:
I'm experiencing a consistent crash behavior after quiting Premiere Pro (ver 5.5.1 and 5.5.2). The complexity of the project doesn't seem to matter and once it crashes, i get the prompt indicating the app encountered a serious error and will try to save the project. I then get the usual crash report prompt to send to apple followed by the adobe crash report a few minutes later (must be why i see "dynamiclinkmanager" in top for a bit after PP crashes).
If I reopen PP, I'm prompted with a dialog box asking if I want the last project opened. If I say yes, I'm back to a crash before any assets load (unexpected serious error and the app will need to close) followed by the crash reports again for apple and adobe. Basically, i get one chance to make a project and it goes bad when closing the application.
I'm using an install from a DVD, but had also tried the web version. I was able to create a couple projects with the web version (trial) and then when I got the DVD, i believe i used that for updating/authenticating, etc - maybe that's where things went south (anyone else observe a similar pattern?).  I didn't think too much of mixing the DVD content with the web install, so the steps around how i mixed those two sources is somewhat fuzzy.
For reference, i'm pasting the crash report inline. To reproduce, I just had to open PP, click no when asked to open the last project that unexpectedly quit, and then just hit quit and got the crash. I didn't do anything other than accept the project defaults in order to test out hitting command-Q.
If I can provide futher info to help with a repro, please let me know.
Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance,
    Todd

Regarding en/disabling the mercury engine, is there another place to toggle that? I didn't think i had any other choice at this time with my card option (until i get a nvidia cuda card). FWIW, When creating a new project, the options in the drop down menu for "Video Rendering and Playback" is greyed out with "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" as the selected option.
I was also thinking of putting a fresh Lion install on another disk (bah, would prefer to not have to do this since I have other stuff all nice and set up on current OS install), but at this point I'm fine to take the hit and level the playing field w/ a fresh OS, image that for downstream testing if a fresh install is needed again, and then start installing things one at a time until something goes wrong.
It seems (i hope)  this error could be caused by something pretty basic as it is a complete showstopper. Unless somehow what I'm doing is super unique, there would be other folks out there dead in the water, to, but making waves.

  • ITunes 7 automatically relaunches after quit.

I have the same problem on both my intel mac mini and my MacBook Pro. The problem is worse on my mini as iTunes can hardly stay closed for 30 seconds and usually will relaunch immediately after quitting. The MacBook Pro tends to wait about 3-5 minutes after I quit to decide and launch iTunes - especially when I'm trying to play a game or anything else full screen, this is extremely annoying as it takes the full screen item, puts it in a window, and forces the machine's focus to iTunes.
Any idea what might be causing this? I thought it might be autolaunching from detecting a fake ipod, but I unplugged my ipod and both machines kept launching iTunes. I even unplugged the USB cable from the computer to see if that might help, but no matter what I try, the problem still persists and iTunes has already launched twice in the time that I have written this.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

iTunes related Widgets can cause these problems.
Disable them and see if this helps.
Other users reported they could enable them again, without the problem returning.
    hope this helps.

  • Safari 5 Opens after Quit

Every time I boot up my Mac, and use Safari, everything goes well until I quit the app. About five seconds after quit, the icon starts bouncing again, and starts back up. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling Safari, and even wiping my entire OS clean! Still no stopping it. This problem really bothers me, and I want to know why this is happening. It also happens with Firefox, but I couldn't replicate the problem with Google Chrome.

    HI,
After you erased and reinstalled the Mac OS X, if you didn't update the system software, that could be the result of both Safari and Firefox quitting.
    Click your Apple Menu/Software Updates.
If your system is already up to date, Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: *Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit* or have performance issues

  • Gmail retrieval stopped after quitting MobileMe

I have been using Apple Mail for 7 years; I'm fairly familiar, but not expert, with the application. For the past 2 years or so, I've been forwarding all work, personal, etc. mail accounts to Gmail, then retrieving them with Apple Mail. It's worked well thus far.
Yesterday, I canceled a trial MobileMe account I had set up a couple months ago. I had also set up a MobileMe account in my Apple Mail, though I only used it to send mail, not receive. After quitting the MobileMe account, my Gmail account stopped retrieving mail. I figured out how to get it to send (I had been using MobileMe for outgoing mail), but it will not retrieve... the spinning wheel just keeps on spinning. My iPhone still retrieves mail from Gmail, but not Apple Mail on my Mac.
Connection Doctor says the connection is good. Any ideas on how I can resolve this problem? I have experimented at length, without success.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi Erine,
Yes, I am running 10.5.4. I need to update my profile on these message boards. My stats below are the most current. Anyway, I am using port 25, and the SMTP address is smtp.me.com. I did not set this part up manually; when I added my MobileMe account, I chose the "Add Account" button from the Preferences->Accounts window, typed in my name, e-mail address, and password, and Mail did the rest for me. Is it possible that the Mail app used the wrong SMTP information? Perhaps someone here who is using MobileMe with Mail app can confirm that the server should be "smtp.me.com" on port 25 with SSL enabled.
EDIT: As I am going into the Activity Window, the outgoing MobileMe just started working! E-mails are sending! Hooray!
Now on to the bigger problem...why, when I click Get Mail, does nothing happen?! Why isn't Mail app checking for mail every five minutes, as I have set up? And why does Mail app freeze when I try to quit?! Again, thanks for the help!

  • How to get gnome-mplayer to remember playback location after quit

    Hello.
I used to use gnome-mplayer on ubuntu/kubuntu before switching to arch and really liked the resume playback feature it has for whenever you start the video again after quiting/crashing/etc.
How do I get this feature to work again on arch? I've been up and down the preferences but could not find it, also I've searched this forum and googled it but still could not find it. (maybe my google skills need polishing?)
Can someone tell me what changed or what did I not do to lose this feature?
    Here's some info:
I'm using arch with latest updates, DE is KDE:
    $ pacman -Q gnome-mplayer
       gnome-mplayer 1.0.9-1
    $ uname -a
       Linux wifi_user 3.16.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Sep 17 21:54:13 CEST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
P.S. If you are wondering why it says wifi_user as host, it was set automatically by something and I cannot change it back to localhost, I've tried...but it resets every time afterwards.

https://code.google.com/p/gnome-mplayer … ail?id=681 implies there's an option in the preferences.
I tried gnome-mplayer in Ubuntu, it asks me whether to resume files, but I cannot see any menu/preferences ;-)
If you're using KDE, perhaps you should look into using smplayer (my favourite wherever). mpv also saves the position if you quit it via Q or somesuch. Perhaps, just perhaps, having mplayer installed instead of mplayer2 (or vice versa) makes some difference in this regard.

  • After quitting itunes reopens... what the..

err.. yes indeed.. its true, after quitting itunes it reopens itself a few seconds later.. oh it was fine til i upgraded it to 7.7 this morning.. please advise

Try deleting the iTunes preferences file. Quit iTunes. Go to User Name>Library>Preferences. Find the file com.apple.iTunes.plist and trash it. Open iTunes again and it will look like you're opening it for the first time. Also if you use the iTunes widget or any widget that has to do with iTunes, close it.

  • After quitting iphoto computer jams

    Hi there,
After quitting iphoto, my computer jams and a blank blue screen appears. I have to hold down the power button to shut it down and then start up again.
Everything appears normal after that. Any ideas?
    Thanks Sally

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time something abnormal was happening. That time might be before or after the boot.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. If the problem is a system crash or freeze, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down. In either case, please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning or the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search that archived log, and if necessary the older ones below it, for the same information.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
    Do the same with kernel.log.
    Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

    ... turn iCloud Calendars off
This will remove the Calendars from the Mac (though not from the iCloud server) and they won't be visible again until syncing is restarted, so it's not a very practicable solution.
This sounds more like Lion's peculiar behaviour over non-active applications, and the best place to ask would be in the Lion forum.

  • Mail keeps relaunching itself after quit.

I have this issue with Apple Mail. It launches itself fairly quickly after I log in (no, it is NOT set to do that, Open at Login is not checked) and if I quit the app, it almost immediately relaunches itself again, and again, and again. It is, as expected, independent of the "check mail" setting, and does this even when that is set to Manual. Which I would expect, as I have never seen the check mail option launch the app.
Anyone have a clue as to what this might be? If I did not know better, I would think that someone put a 1 second cron job in to launch mail as a joke (does not appear to the case), but that is how it acts, relaunches right after quitting.
Running 10.5.6 on a new Macbook, 2 GB memoy
Any suggesitons on where to look would really be appreciated.
    -Owen-

Well, of course, I have been chasing this for months, and JUST today, I decide to post the question here, and just today, I discovered the answer myself. Painstakingly I removed programs one at a time and re-logged in.
I discovered that when I removed the Soonr backup software "Soonr Desktop Agent" the problem went away. This agent scans your computer for things that need to be backed up, it has an option to also backup mail and address book data as well. Seems they feel they need to launch mail to do that, and that they need to launch it all the time for some reason. When I turned off the agent, the problem went away.
Turning the agent back on, I unchecked the "Enable retrieval of content from Mail and Address Book" and mail stopped launching itself immediately but backup seems to run, but perhaps not backing up mail now. Oh well.
I will report that as a bug to Soonr, but strange that it feels it needs to launch Mail to get data but not the address book.
Sorry all, problem solved by myself. Left here for reference.

  • Stop Safari from resetting preferences after quitting

After installing Macafee, Safari will keep settings after quitting. I have uninstalled Macafee by using their uninstaller and the problem persists. The default apple homepage opening on Safari startup and is getting very old. Any ideas on how to stop this from happening?

Try deleting the password for that site...
Quit Safari. Now open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities). Select Passwords on the left.
Delete the keychain for that site.
Relaunch Safari. Navigate to the site. Enter your user name and password as usual. When prompted to save that data, click Never.

  • Receive texts after quitting

    Hello,
I continue to receive text messages on my MacBookPro through Messages after quitting the program.  How can I turn off Messages completely?

    Hi,
In Messages >Preferences > General section there is an Option that reads "When I Quit, Set the Status to Off line"
This should stop the IMAgent app "Listening" for Off Line IMs (AIM or Jabber) or iMessages.
Mine was stopping iMessages as well as AIM and Jabber IMs until recently.
I have made two changes since the time it seemed to be working.
    1) I Tested with a Contact and undid the setting.
    2) I have updated to OS 10.8.4
Since I made the change to the setting then changed it back Messages has launched on computer start up to then sync iMessages (it used to wait until I started the app)
As William says it is pushed at the iOS devices and at Messages on the Mac rather than "fetched" like IM services are.
The other side of the coin is that Apple stated that the OS X 10.8.4 update "fixed" one of the issuesd that they belived contributed to out or order iMessages when the app was sycning AND getting new iMessages at the same time.
If they have separated out the iMessages account from being completely Off Line then that may help if the app was still receiving them.  (depite this not being the way you want  or expect the app to work).
