After RAM swapping, It wont boot

My computer will not boot up, the fans work and computer turns on by itself when i power on from the surge, night before I switched the ram from slot 3 to 1, because I had error msg sometimes when browsing internet it would say  bad memory at "ex5f something like that " referenced at memory (not sure). But the computer booted up fine. So i was browsing internet and it wanted to open a page in acrobat but it closed, so I turned the PC of for the night, woke up and then switched the ram again into different slots, i have 2 chip rams 333 512mb. And now it will not boot up.  I looked in the manual book, and I finally see it says power unplug from motherboard because the nforce boards are very sensitive to ESD :(. I didnt know it is.

Do you have access to the computer right now? If you do check all of your connections as it's unlikely that simply putting the ramm in the wromg DIMM would fry the MB.  It sound like you may have loosened a connection without realizing it. Check this link for info on the DIMMs you should use: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo2_Platinum&class=mb

  • Macbook wont boot after updating ram

    Please help,
I have a white macbook mid 2010 model.  Today I attempted to upgrade the RAM in my machine but to no avail.  The ram I purchased was 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) - DDR3 SDRAM - 1333 MHz DDR3-1333/PC3-10666 - Non-ECC - Unbuffered - 204-pin SoDIMM PNY 4GB DDR3 SDRAM. I already tried to upgrade a few years ago so I had 3gb or RAM in my machine.  I wanted to buy a 4gb stick and use it along side the 2gb stick that I have in now.  When I put both sticks in my computer just beeps and wont boot.  It will however boot, if i put either stick in alongside one of the original sticks that my machine came with, which would either give me 5gb or 3gb.  I have seen people with similiar issues and the answers given was bad ram or bad memory slots.  If the memory or the slot was bad, it would work at all no matter what combination you used so that really dosen't make any sense to me.  If someone could help me, I would appreciate it.

If you bought your RAM at a place that also sells PC RAM you may have gotten mislabelled RAM. PCs can handle different RAM speeds so they’ll often label higher speed RAM as a lower speed rather than make two different speeds of RAM. But Macs are much more picky. They require a RAM stick to be exactly 1066mhz not 1333mhz. The way to tell is to put one of your old RAM sticks in and it will force the new RAM to run at the correct speed. Your MacBook requires 1066mhz RAM not 1333mhz.

  • Comp wont boot with ram in any slots besides 1&3 no matter what, faulty board?

Ok i've tried pretty much everything, got latest bios, changed timings to everything but the comp just wont boot if I have any ram in slots 2&4. Actually got the comp to boot up with ram in slots 1&2 once, but tried with all 4 slots filled and didn't work, and after that slot 2 didn't work again.
Could it be a faulty board? I know it's not the ram.

Ahh, turns out you were right tiresmoke.
Even though I thought I had 4 sticks that were exactly the same..one wasn't. 3 of them are xms32004.1 0427033 - 0...the one i've always had in my comp is 5.1 0430069 - 1. Put in 2 of the 4.1 and was able to run dual channel np. That explains why one time I was able to run dual channel then switch the ram and couldn't..had no idea there was minor differences..and have no idea why I got 3 of one kind and 1 of another when I orderd the 4 sticks.
Going to try and exchange the 4 sticks for 2 1 gig sticks..how good is neweggs return policy heh? Been like nearly 2 months..

  • Installing RAM, 3gb works fine, 4gb wont boot.

I am trying to upgrade the RAM in an aluminium 24" iMac. I have 2x2gb sticks, both DDR2-800 PC2-6400.
When I install them both, the computer wont boot.
If I install just one new stick, and leave the original stick in there, it boots fine.
If I install either of the new sticks, but NOT the original, it wont boot.
The extra strange thing, is that I have done the same upgrade procedure on 2 older (white) iMacs, with the same spec sticks. Both the older machines have no issues, other than the RAM only showing up as 667mhz, not 800mhz.
Any ideas? I don't think it's the RAM itself, as either stick works when installed in conjunction with the original stick.
Could the iMac be struggling with trying to run 800mhz RAM? Seems unlikely to me, as the older iMacs are doing it fine.

    cruci wrote:
All I can think of that explains the behaviour is that on the older machine, which has a 667 bus speed, it doesn't try to use the RAM at 800, but on the newer machine (which has a 800 bus) if both RAM slots are filled with 800, it tries and fails.
Nope. Although the ALU iMacs have an 800 MHz Front Side Bus,
the memory controller hardware runs only at 667 MHz:
[Apple Developer Note -- ALU iMacs|http://developer.apple.com/documentation/HardwareDrivers/Conceptual/iMac0708/Articles/ProductDeveloperNote.html#//appleref/doc/uid/TP90004829]
This is pure speculation, but I suspect that the problem might
be related to the ALU iMac firmware. RAM modules have a small
"SPD chip" ([Serial Presence Detect|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SerialPresenceDetect]) that the OS interrogates
for information about the module. My guess is that some iMac
models can't deal with memory sticks that report perfectly
    valid but "unexpected" SPD information.
There have been several recent posts by owners reporting the
same strangeness whereby upgrade modules work individually
but not in pairs -- even with 667 MHz parts that appear to
conform perfectly to Apple's recommended specs.
FWIW, I've had good luck with Mushkin's "PerfectMatch" memory
designed specifically for Apple. A Mushkin tech-support droid
told me that Mushkin programs the SPD with exactly the same
information as Apple-supplied memory modules. (Please supply
    your own grain of salt.)

  • [SOLVED] arch wont boot after triple boot experiment

    Hi,
I cannot boot into arch anymore after installing ubuntu to another partition on my hard drive.
I used grub to dual boot arch and windows, but i need to use ROS and there are no working packages for arch so i tried to install ubuntu on another partition and triple boot.
Somhow my arch got broken by the ubuntu setup.
    Windows still boots fine.
I already chrooted (to arch) from a live cd and reinstalled grub and did
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
, after that ubuntu appeared in the grub selection menu but arch still wont boot.
Arch boot hangs after checking /dev/sda6 for errors (arch partition), i cannot type or ctrl+shift+fx to another terminal
Anybody has an idea what got broken by ubuntu and how i can repair arch?
    thanks!

Hey so i chroot again following this artikle: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Change_Root
    then i did
    pacman -Syyu mkinitcpio linux udev
    and restarted
I tried starting arch again and it seemed to still not work, this time i gave it some more time and it actually booted.
It took very long though (more then 3 minutes or so)
in journalctl if found those lines:
Sep 09 04:20:00 meanarchy kernel: USB Video Class driver (1.1.1)
    Sep 09 04:21:25 meanarchy systemd[1]: Job dev-disk-by\x2duuid-12027d8a\x2dd4b0\x2d4559\x2daa1c\x2de3ea5ca8f5bb.device/start timed out.
Sep 09 04:21:25 meanarchy systemd[1]: Timed out waiting for device dev-disk-by\x2duuid-12027d8a\x2dd4b0\x2d4559\x2daa1c\x2de3ea5ca8f5bb.device.

    Sep 09 04:21:25 meanarchy systemd[1]: Starting Swap.
so it seems boot is searching for some disk device 1:25 minutes before it fails.
I think i know the reason: I resized the Partition of arch while installing ubuntu this changes the uuid of the partition, now something is waiting for this disk to become ready because it still has the old uuid written somwhere.
UUIDs really suck, they are not human readable and always have problems with them if i touch my partitions.

I have a PowerBook 145B but something is wrong with the systemfolder so it wont boot. I've downloaded System 7.0.1 from Apple and put it on Floppys with my Macintosh Classic. The PowerBook boots from the floppy but after a minute it just comes up a window thats completely white.
I've tried a lot of things, but my Macintosh classic (with original floppys) runs 7.0.0. And the PowerBook needs atleast 7.0.1 and did run 7.1.0 as original OS.
    How do I fix this?

Because your PowerBook 145B shipped with OS 7.1, it can't run an earlier version of the Mac OS, such as 7.0.1.  Unfortunately, Apple never made OS 7.1 available for download.  You can run OS 7.5.1, 7.5.3, and 7.5.5 on your PowerBook, but I'd recommend doing so with the maximum amount of supported memory - 8 MBs.  The 19-part download of OS 7.5.3 is segmented, so that each one will fit on a 1.44 MB floppy disk.  The problem is that the 19-diskette set isn't an installer set as such, having no bootable disk.  It's solely intended to be used to transfer the individual segments to the resident hard drive in the computer.  Once that's done, double-clicking the first .smi segment creates the OS 7.5.3 installer disk image on the desktop, which you drag onto the hard drive icon.  This produces a folder with the OS 7.5.3 installer in it.  I've done this before with an old Mac LC and it works.  You can also download the 3-diskette OS 7.5.5 Update and run that.  These downloads can be found on the same page where you found the OS 7.0.1 download: Older Software Downloads.

  • I have a imac g3 dv se, snow and after about 10minutes of it booting it makes a popping sound and the turns off, then it wont turn back on for another 5-10 minutes

i have a imac g3 dv se,500mhz, snow and after about 10minutes of it booting it makes a popping sound and the turns off, then it wont turn back on for another 5-10 minutes any suggestions?

Actually sounds like classic symptoms of a failing PAV (power-analog-video) on that model. Historically that's the weak spot in the G3 iMacs.
The lack of active cooling in the G3 iMac puts a lot of heat stress on this board and they eventually fail from overheating. Right now the board is still working as long as it's cool--it only fails when temps inside the computer rise.
About the only way to preserve the computer's life is to mount a 120mm fan directly on the case where the handle is--that's the exhaust port. The fan has to be positioned to PULL air out through that vent. It's an ugly solution to the eye but it has been done around here more than you would think.
Also make certain the bottom of the computer is not blocked. It the computer is sitting on a tablecloth or placemat, or there are loose papers on the desk under the case, it cannot get enough air into the bottom-mounted air intakes. Make/find some blocks to set the iMac a minimum of one inch (2.5CM) from the desk and move anything that can be "inhaled" from under the computer.
Even with such measures, the PAV board will eventually fail and be unrecoverable. It's a good time to start saving for a newer computer.

  • After v1.90 BIOS update Satellite Pro A300-1EA wont boot up

I have just upgraded my laptop to the new BIOS as stated in the title but after doing it my computer now wont boot up at all. I just get a blue screen with it asking me to do a CHKDSK because there might be a virus or that the hard drive isn't connected properly (when it is), and it just keeps rebooting.
It wont start in safe mode either. Anyone else had the same problem and if so, how do I get my laptop back?? :(
    Thanks for any replies.

Please don't be mad on me but I think you really didn't read users manuals you got with your notebook. There is exactly described how you can have factory settings again.
So, now you are 100% sure that recovery image is not on the HDD but you don't know how to have factory settings again. Strange.
Remove battery, connect AC adapter only and disconnect all attached external devices.
Start your notebook and enter BIOS settings. Set it to default settings and try to start OS again.
    What happen exactly?

  • PC wont boot up after installing playbook via USB

Well. This morning I connected for the first time the Bb Playbook to my Dell M1730 Vista Laptop. I had already preinstalled the Bb desktop software to my PC. As soon as I connected my Playbook via USB, the computer detected it and proceeded to "install drivers" on the lower right side of the desktop next to where the clock is. It then booted up the Bb Desktop software which asked me to restart computer. I did, my computer did not boot up, lights came on but the screen never showed me anything. My Playbook which was still connected to the PC showed a screen that says: Installing Drivers. It shows a Monitor to the left and the playbook sign on the right with arrows between them. However I see nothing telling me its working on something, no % or status bar. Further more it tells me to open up the driver installation on my PC if it hasnt opened it yet. But my comp continues to show nothing. I disconected the Bb and tried to turn on comp again, now it does the same with or without thr blackberry plugged, it just stays there lights on but no screen or sounds. Only diff between when the Bb is attached or not is that the Bb automatically shows the screen previously described. I waited 20 min to see if it was really installing something but nothing happens.
    Help? Thanks!!
