After re installing OS x I got following information as I want install IPhoto. These apps cannot be accepted on this computer.

The answer was authorization codes. It took three phone calls, several emails to Apple Tech support (after I purchased the $160 applecare plan) to get them. Note, I had to call back after four days, the first Senior Advisor simply disappeared and refused to respond to emails or phone calls. The next Senior advisor spent the weekend looking for the first advisor, then scheduled a phone call to tell me he would begin looking at the issue. When I asked he specficially discounted the authorization codes:
"I don't know if issuing a redeem code for iPhoto is an appropriate resolution for your issue. Since, I don't have the ability to issue any redeem codes for the Mac App Store, I am still waiting to hear back from Sean, the previous agent you were working with, regarding any status he has about your issue."
Three days after that...here are your codes. Note a restart is necessary to properly get the iLife apps to update, now through the App Store.
Also, this is the second issue where I have lost contact with a Senior Advisor and had to restart the process. Standard procedure?

I answered I really needed it, and if they knew the estimated time it would take to solve the issue. Here's the last response.
- "According to your previous correspondence, you have not been able to install iLife after reinstalling OS X Lion. I understand that this issue is under investigation, and that you would like to know the amount of time needed to find a resolution. As a fellow iTunes customer, I certainly understand that you need to use iPhoto for professional reasons, and I'll gladly help you to resolve this problem.
Unfortunately, I am unable to give you the exact amount of time this issue could take. I do assure you that our engineers are currently working towards a resolution. "
I'm going to an Apple Sotre Genius today, in 2 hours. I'll keep updated!!

I bought a used macbook air (newest model) with lion and when I try and install iPhoto it says "These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID. These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases "

I am a new mac user so there is a lot that I don't yet know or understand. The previous owner did a clean re-install of lion and my air is covered under warranty till August. We called apple when I bought it to make sure it wasn't stolen and registered it to me. I am just trying to be able to transfer my pictures from my iphone to my air. I also want to set up icloud which looks like it requires iphoto. Also, what are the other iLife apps? I have a feeling I will encounter the same issues with those. Thanks for your help.

If new versions of iPhoto and the other iLife applications (iMovie and GarageBand) were purchased by the previous owner from the Mac App Store, then they will be locked to the previous owner's Apple ID and cannot be transferred to you. You will have to re-purchase them under your own Apple ID.
If this is an older MBA that came with Snow Leopard or an earlier version of Mac OS X, though, the system would have come with an installation disk that included the iLife applications, a disk which the seller should have provided to you. Those iLife applications would be older versions, of course, and may or may not work in Lion depending on how old they are.

Judging by the number of successful password hack attempts on internet accounts of all types, clearly password security alone is not enough to verify you are the account holder to a dumb computer.
I'm sure you'd be complaining even more about "stupid iPad" if it allowed anyone who obtained your password easy access without any kind of backup security checks, and spend money on your iTunes / App Store account.
Apple are actively increasing the security of people's valuable iTunes accounts, not decreasing it. Why would you want to make it easier for someone to steal from you and take over your online accounts?

"Install Mac OS X" cannot be used from this volume

I have a first generation MacBook, and the CD-R drive doesn't always function reliably anymore. So recently I've taken to putting my mom's iMac into Target Disk mode for installing software.
Normally this works just fine. However, this evening I tried to do this for installing Snow Leopard and cannot. What happens is:
1) I connect the 2 computers with FireWire and put the iMac in Target Disk mode.
2) I insert the Snow Leopard disc and double-click on the "Mac OS X Install DVD" icon on my desktop
3) I double-click on "Install Mac OS X"
It is at that point that I receive this message:
The application "Install Mac OS X" cannot be used from this volume.
I searched the forum here, but actually didn't find this exact question. Any help will be very appreciated!

Try following these steps instead:
1) Insert the Install DVD into the machine with a working disc drive.
2) Power off both machines, and connect them with a Firewire cable.
3) Start the machine with the DVD inside in Target Disk Mode.
4) When the Firewire symbol appears on that machine, boot the other with the Option key held down.
5) Choose the Install DVD from the list of options, then proceed with the install.
That should work for you.
Are you using a retail copy of Snow Leopard (black disc)? Machine-specific gray discs will not work.

Deauthorizing won't delete anything, and all your purchased content is safe. You will just have to reauthorize any of the other computers that get deauthorized along with your computers old machine id.
To get your purchased content back on that computer, just use iTunes to redownload it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US). Of course, music you ripped from CD or got from another source you'll need to copy those files back over.

I have an older 2008 macbook, with leopard, I am trying to download snow leopard and when i try to install I keep getting the message, "the application "install mac os x" cannot be used from this volume". Can someone please help

There is no way to download the upgrade to Snow Leopard.
What you are downloading are updates.
In order for the update to work your Mac must have Snow Leopard installed first.
The only way to upgrade to Snow Leopard is to purchase the Snow Leopard DVD from Apple Online.

If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

Unable to install iPhoto from App Store after Mountain Lion Upgrade

Hi,
I've formated and installed Mountain Lion. Unfortunately every time I try to install iPhoto from the App store it starts the download goes up to 10MB and goes to zero. After three times it gives up and tells me that there is an error and I should try again from purchases.
This also happens with others like garage band etc.
I can use it to install others like Xcode without a problem.
What can I do?

But it is the only serialnumber I have, and I did not type it wrong. Please help.
