After reboot, opendirectory not working

After rebooting my OSX 10.5.8 server from the Java update, something is wrong with open directory. None of the existing user accounts can log in. When logging into the server as root, and opening "workgroup manager" it wants to connect to myserver.local as system administrator. When I do I get prompted with "you are working in a directory node that is not visible to the network"... when I click OK, i'm in as authenticated as root to local directory /local/default. I see only system administrator and iphone as users, not all the previous users and groups.
What do I need to do to get the original settings working? Can I merely point it to another location to work? If so, where do I start looking for the original directory information? Is something corrupted? Server Admin says Password server is working, but LDAP and Kerberos are not. Which log file should I look at for clues?
Help... I don't even know where to start looking for ideas on this one, and without logins, the server is effectively down for the users.

Here's what I did, based on http://www.prestonlee.com/2009/07/08/recovering-a-corrupt-openldap-database-on-o sx-server/
1) sudo to root
sudo -i2) shutdown the open directory server
service org.openldap.slapd stop
3) dump a copy of the Open Directory database to an LDIF format text file
mkdir /var/root/opendirectorycd /var/root/opendirectoryslapcat -l dir.ldif4) move the old (corrupt) database files out of the way (or remove them).
cd /var/db/openldap/openldap-datamkdir SAVEmv *.bdb SAVE/
be sure you don’t move, rename or delete the file named DB_CONFIG. It’s needed.
5) recreate the database from the LDIF format file
cd /var/root/opendirectoryslapadd -l dir.ldifslapindexYou will see some harmless warnings during slapadd. Ignore them.
6) restart open directory
service org.openldap.slapd start
Restart server, and authentication/user access is restored

  • Mac OS 8.6 Auto network connect to a server after reboot is not working

We have multiple old blue and white systems on a network. All but one will automatically connect to the network when rebooted. I have gone into Chooser, Appletalk, put in the server IP address, put in the server password, checked the boxes that say remember Server name and password for next startup. I can connect at that time with no problem. When I reboot, the server does not automatically hook up. I have to go back into Chooser, etc. I created an alias on the desktop, but it still prompts me for a password to connect. I have performed a clean install of the Mac OS 8.6. It still does not connect to the server after reboot (after configuring all the settings again after the clean install). Please help..

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Can you please create the database manually with below command and verify.
    PS C:\> Set-RDConnectionBrokerHighAvailability –DatabaseConnectionString
"DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0;SERVER=<SQL Server
     Name>;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker;
    DATABASE=<DB Name>" -DatabaseFilePath "C:\DbFiles\<DbName>.mdf"
     -ClientAccessName "<DNS RR Name>"
Grant DBO permissions to the service account on the RDS server and try to run your wizard again.

  • SM36/37: Specification "After Job" does not work for Daily "periodcity"

I reviewed http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/20/2d513897110872e10000009b38f889/content.htm, which states what I am trying to do should work, but it does not.
    Here's the deal:
    1.  I have two jobs: "A" and "B".
    2.  "A" runs Daily.
    3.  I set-up job "B" to run "After job" "A" in my SM36 definition.
Job "B" will run the next day, but never runs again after that even though job "A" continues to run "Daily" as it should.
    Further info:
    1.  We have "Event-triggered" jobs that run fine, but the "After Job" designation doesn't seem to work ongoingly.
    2.  I can review both jobs "A" and "B" for any "Predecessor" or "Successor" jobs, and, the first jobs to run after the initial set-up DO reference each other (in other words, let's say I schedule job "B" to run "After job" "A" on Tuesday.  After Tuesday's run, Job "A" sees job "B" as it's "Successor" job and job "B" sees job "A" as it's "Predecessor" job), but the definition doesn't last into the next day ONLY FOR JOB "B" (as I mentioned, job "A" always runs fine).
    3.  I can't set the "periodcity" for job "B" because, once I flag it to run "After Job" "A", the "period" options disappear.
    4.  One final tidbit: the variant for job "B" has a "key date" specified so the date is dynamic for each day the job runs.  I can set up job "B" to run "Daily" with this variant and it runs fine, but I wanted it to run AFTER job "A" so it never runs if job "A" doesn't run.  (At this point, it's becoming a matter of principal!)
    Here's my question:
Why won't job "B" continue to run "Daily" after job "A" (a "Daily" job) runs?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lara

  • Crontab reboot command not working

    Crontab reboot command not working
    Greetings
I am new at this so excuse any ignorant mistakes I might be making.
I have a server (MM X.4.9) that I would like to restart every day in order to make sure no programmes are hanging etc. If a program is hanging is should force quit it. Using terminal I have entered the following command:
    sudo nano /etc/crontab
    Entered password
Than I entered using tab between each sequence:
    15 13 1 1 * root reboot
This was a test run and it did not reboot.
    Entering
    cat /etc/crontab
    I got:
    # The periodic and atrun jobs have moved to launchd jobs
    # See /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    # minute hour mday month wday who command
    15 13 1 1 * root reboot
    What have I done wrong?
    Thanks

Hehe, there you are experimenting with a "reboot" cron command and you are surprised it quit so fast. You are not going to find a "graceful" solution to shutdown dialogs.
MSWord is a Java app, so it is especially important for the command to work that it doesn't get hung up on outer layers of the system. Especially stupid apps that use Java which is not well integrated. I believe Word has a 5 minute autosave, so you should be able to recover most of your document.
This reboot command should be running around 2AM, when the average webserver has minimum traffic. If you feel the need to reboot during busier times of the day, I'd suggest you look at what's causing your applications to crash.

    Hi Priya,
The issue may be due to the SQL Reporting Services maximum number of parameter items. We can try to add following code to Web.config file to resolve the issue.
    <appSettings>
    <add key="aspnet:MaxHttpCollectionKeys" value="30000" />
    <add key="aspnet:MaxJsonDeserializerMembers" value="30000" />
    </appSettings>
(Note: We can according to our requirement to set these values. After that, restart all SQL Server services. )
By default, the Web.config file is located in:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportManager
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer
More detail information, you can refer to the article about SQL Reporting Services maximum number of parameter items.

    Hi HeVi,
I'm not sure that I completely understand what your issue is. Are you
trying to launch a BAT-file after the installation of an application?
In that case, I will recommend you to refer to the following

  • Iphone after ios6 download not working

I tired to dowload the new ios6 but the iphone stopped after dowloading half and went black. Then I tried to turn it back on but now only a white apple icon is shown every 5 seconds :-( What am I supposed to do?

The other Mac is brand-new and has almost no apps installed...
So the problem is obviously related to the iPhone 5.

  • [BUG?] "Turn off Hard Disk after - NEVER " Does not work ?

    Hi,
I was using last 2 builds of Windows 10 Tech preview x64, and found this weird behaviour. I've updated to this new 9926 build, clean installation, and it happened again:
I have Windows installed on my SSD, and I have several other Hard Disks (internal ones) connected. Whenever I try to search files inside any of those HDDs, they have to turn themselves on, which causes a 2-3 sec lag, and then allow me to continue. When I'm
done working inside them, and some minutes pass, they turn themselves back off again.
I do know theres an power management option called "Turn Hard Disk off after..." and I have chosen it to be at NEVER. But it's not working.
Has anyone had same problem? Is it a known bug or something? Any way to fix this?
Thank you for your time, and forgive my level of english.

    Chris,
These steps from a recent post by AndyO should help:

+"Your problem may be that the new hard drive in your mini is not yet prepared correctly for the MacOS installer to recognise it.+
+"Once you are booted to the installer disk, instead of attempting an install, open Disk Utility in the Utilities menu. If the drive doesn't show up on the left, it is not correctly installed, and you will need to open the system up again and check that it is connected correctly. If it shows up in Disk Utility, you need to partition and format it correctly. To do that, click on the drive in Disk Utility to select it, then click the Partition tab. Under 'Volume Scheme, select a single volume, then click the Options button to bring up the partitioning choices. For a G4 mini, you want to select Apple Partition Map. Click OK to confirm and it will partition the drive and should also format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Once that is done, you should then be able to run the MacOS installer which will then recognise the drive and allow the install.+
+"For reference, a G4 (PPC) Mac, (including the original minis) require Apple Partition Map partitioning, and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) formatting for a MacOS installer to recognise them.+

  • After install applications not working

After installing Leopard I have had many problems. Specifically, the computer won't sleep, iWork & iLife software not working well. Pages files won't open. DVD Studio Pro won't compress. Compressor won't compress in any format. Help

Thanks for the quick response! I had to go back to work. But in answer to your questions.
Yes I backed up my data.
I don't know what you mean by input managers so I would say no.
    I have 150GB drive with 81GB left
In another forum someone suggested I repair permissions through disk utility. So I did that.

  • Option +  Reboot does not work.

    Macbook Pro 2010 15" 2.66GHz Intel Core i7
So this is my miserable situation:
Last night I dropped my Mac on right bottom corner (unfortunately where hard-drive is located).
After this the device makes a jerking/clicking sound from right bottom corner which is most definately the hard-drive. I was able to use the device for a minute and then it froze. After a hard-reset the device got stuck on the apple logo while the wheel was spinning, waiting for a while, I got no response so I did another hard-reset and since then the only thing I was able to see was the grey screen with no logo.
I am aware that I need to replace the HDD but I have critical information to be backed up. So I discussed the issue with a friend of mine who is an expert in these situations and he told me to try to repair the drive with Disk Utility and if it did not work I have to boot into DiskWarrior 4.4.
About an hour after the incident I tried these:
Holding Option after chime allowed me to enter Recovery Mode. I tried this 4 times and these are the results I got:
First Time: The recovery screen showed "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery HD" with the chance to choose a network to connect to. Mistakenly I hard-reseted again since I did not know how to proceed.
Second Time: This time the only option on recovery screen was "Internet Recovery" and apparently the device did not recognize my hard-drive anymore.
Third Time: I had the options to do an "Internet Recovery" or "EFFY or IFFY Something (I don't remember clearly)"
Forth Time: I tried Internet Recovery yet received a -2002F error.
Last Time: I tried Internet recovery, was able to access Disk Utility. Proceeded to do a "repair" and got "Invalid Node Structure" error. While the Disk Utility was attempting to rewrite B-tree the Macintosh HD drive disappeared from left side and everything froze. I attempted another hard-reset until now.
At the moment: I borrowed a copy of DiskWarrior from a friend mine. I attempted to hold C after chime, I got no result even though I waited for approximately ad hour. Then I tried to access it through Recovery Mode. So I held option for a lengthily time and no result! Force-ejected the disk. Tried to access Recovery Mode by itself again and after 10-12 attempts I cannot manage to access it from gray screen.
I know I have to hold the C or Option key after the chime. I know that I have to "hold" it. I know how to operate these. This is not my issue. It just doesn't work.
I would highly appreciate if an expert can guide me through this.

    Hi j,
You can try FireWire Target Disk Mode http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
though I doubt it will work with a dead/near dead HD. Depending on what has been damaged, a professional data retrieval service may be able to salvage some data; look up data retrieval in yellow pages or online. When you talk to them, make sure you're sitting down as their service is extremely expensive. IIRC, some won't charge you unless they can actually retrieve data. IIRC.
As for the MBP itself, it sounds like you know what you're doing, and putting a new HD should tell you if it was just the HD problem, or if there is additional damage.
    Good luck to you.

Apple TV not working after update attempt. The Apple TV light just keeps blinking can not turn it off and unplugging it for 30 seconds is not a remedy. I have tried that several times.I have only had this for a few weeks now I am vary disappointed.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)
