After reformat HWsetup remembers old settings?

I just reformatted my Toshiba laptop to out of box state. When I open the lid, the laptop boots up which is not the default setting in HWsetup. Why after a reformat would HWsetup not be restored to it's default settings. Why would "Panel Open - Power On" be set to "Enabled" when the default is "Disabled". Any thoughts?
Odd thing is the first few times I opened the lid after the reformat I don't recall it booting up. Then suddenly it did.

HWSetup doesn't store any settings itself. It just accesses the BIOS. Reformatting the hard drive doesn't do anything to the BIOS.

  • Diagnostics Setup - remembers old settings

    Hi,
have a strange problem and it's really giving me a headache. We did set up solution manager diagnostics earlier ago and it worked fine. Recently I logged on again to the SolMan Diagnostics page and got the message that Diagnostics was not running because the WEBADMIN connection did not work.
I checked in Visual Admin (JCo RFC Provider) and it was really down. The reason was the user which was entered for the connection did not exist anymore. So I changed it to something else and it was started up fine.
But I also had to re-run a Diagnostics Setup -> Diagnostics System -> Setup Wizard due to upgrade we made.
Magically this again changed the old connection parameters back in Visual Admin's WEBADMIN connection. On the very first page of the diagnostics wizard you can maintain the connection parameters to the ABAP system and I also changed that to the new user but when the setup proceeds it always fails at the ABAP connection step saying the user ID and password is not correct (and stating the old user which really surprises me).
So it seems whatever data you gave for the very first time the wizard just can't forget it and brings them up even you already changed the connection parameters...and it also overrides the WEBADMIN connection parameters back to the obsolete parameters.
Anybody has an idea how can I overcome this issue? Is it somewhere buffered and I need to empty the buffer?
    Our solman is a 7.0 at SPS17
    Cheers

Hi, thanks for the reply - the problem is not in the ABAP stack. It's on the java side when you try to open the http://hostname:port/smd link and try to do a diagnostics setup wizards.
On this first page there are some parameters you need to provide like:
    Support User
Please enter the UserId of the SMD Support User. If not yet existing, the User will be created with password set in advanced setup (default : 'init1234')
    ABAP Connection
Please enter the settings of the Solution Manager Backend ISM
    ABAP Client
    ABAP Admin User Id
    ABAP Admin Password
    ITS port
Is BW installed in a separate...  Client ?  System ?
    J2EE Administrator
Please enter admin User Id and password of the SAP J2EE administrator of Solution Manager
    J2EE Admin User Id
    J2EE Admin Password
    Etc etc...
my problem is that at the very first time I populated the ABAP connection parameters using a user ID called e.g. SMD_RFC_XYZ.
Now when I change this to e.g. SMD_COMMUINICATION user and run the setup wizard with the changed parameters in the error log I still see SMD_RFC_XYZ user id for some reason I don't know where the system gets it from.

  • Can I set my screen view to zoom out (ie to 90%) permanently, so that after shutdown it remembers the settings for all pages whenever opened (until I change it again) ?

On internet explorer I can set the 'zoom' to 90% and all subsequent internet pages, tabs, windows display at this setting even after shutdown/reboot etc. It is a permanaent setting until I change it. I need this for my eyesight (long-sighted). Can I set this with Firefox?

If you need to adjust the font size on websites then look at:

  • I can't activate my phone after reformatting it. My old appleID can't unlock the phone after it was been hacked and erase information inside

I am having dilemma after reformatting my iPhone 5 and I can't get through the re-activation page. It requires me to log-in using my old apple ID which I abandoned 2 years ago after it was been hacked. Apparently, I was able to retrieve my old Apple ID and iCloud, however, the purchased items, downloaded apps, the linked device ("find my iphone app" to link) and other information were wiped out. I reset the password several times to see whether it helps, but still shows error message "Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this phone".
Any advices and help to get through?

Also I have not done anything to the phone ever since I bought it, so I assume that it's locked?

  • How do i restore my new iphone device to my old settings after already selecting set up as new device?

I've gotten a new iPhone 5 which is replacing my old iPhone 5 and I wanted to restore my settings from my old iPhone to the new one. However during the set up of the new iPhone I lost connection from the internet, therefore I chosed to set up my iPhone as a new iPhone. I have now gone onto iTunes to see if it'll let me restore my old iPhone settings and it was providing me with other devices but my old iPhone. How can I restore my old settings or will I have to start over as a new device?

  • After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine:Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on? the WD disk has mounted??

After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine: "Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on?"  I've reformatted in Disk Utilities...not sure what I did wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by "booted" from it.
If the Mac OS is installed on the external drive, then it's possible to start up from it, just as you do from your internal drive. Please open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, and verify that your internal drive is selected as the startup disk.
Assuming that's the case, then it may be that your TM settings have been corrupted. Turn off TM, then move or delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist. Turn TM back on, recreate your settings, and try again.

HOW DO I GET MY OLD SET UP BACK AFTER HITTING THE RESET BUTTON AS A WAY TO GET RID OF OUTFOXTV? i HATE WHAT IT DID TO FIREFOX!

Hi, no need to use caps. We can read. :P
You can reset Firefox by following the instructions below:
    1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
    3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
    4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
The Reset feature should have kept all of your personal information. It would have only removed extensions and themes, website-specific preferences, search engines, download history, DOM storage, security settings, download actions, plugin settings, toolbar customizations, user styles and social features
Sorry about the caps, thought that was just the way the website was set up. A further question, isn’t one of my problems that when I reset the first time, it changed everything to the defaults. I want my old settings back, not the defaults. I think they are sitting on my desktop, just not sure how to get the back. Thanks for any help.

Hi charlesbro, for future reference, you can find your previous posts and follow up in them using your profile (top of page here) or a link in the notification of a reply. You don't need to go through posting a new question each time.
You also can use this link: https://support.mozilla.org/search?a=1&asked_by=charlesbro&sortby=1&w=2 (on a desktop browser, doesn't work on the mobile version of the site)
To address your question: The reset should have created a folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data with at least one folder inside it, typically with some random letters and numbers followed by "default". Can you find that? That's your old profile folder. If there are multiple folders, choose the one that looks most promising.
Here's my suggested profile resurrection procedure using the old profile folder:
    '''Overview'''
    These are the steps:
    (1) Create a new Firefox profile<br>
    (2) Remove everything from that new profile folder<br>
    (3) Copy in everything from the old profile folder
'''Create a new Firefox profile (Windows)'''
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
''Note: Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.''
Click the Create Profile button. Use the default location (i.e., do not click to choose a different folder). Then select that new profile in the dialog and start Firefox.
'''Open the New Profile folder in Windows Explorer'''
Firefox in the new profile should look like a factory fresh installation. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using either:
    * Help &gt; Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table, click the "Show Folder" button. Firefox will launch your brand new profile folder in Windows Explorer.
Leaving this folder open, switch back to Firefox, and Exit. This will leave that profile folder open in Windows Explorer.
'''Copy Old Data in Place of New'''
In that new profile folder, select all the contents and delete.
Leaving that window open, open or switch over to your Old Firefox Data folder. Drill down into your old profile folder. At this level you should see a folder named bookmarkbackups among other things.
Select everything (Ctrl+a) and Copy (either right-click > Copy or Ctrl+c).
Switch to the empty new profile folder in other window and Paste (either right-click > Paste or Ctrl+v). This may take a minute since some of the files are large.
    '''Start Firefox'''
Firefox should start up in that new profile with the resurrected old profile data. Success?

  • Old settings are being applied to all photos

Well I edited a .jpg in bridges ACR. I choose about 5 other pictures to sync up with those settings. After I synced those my eintire folder synced to those settings. When I tried to edit>devolpe settings>clear settings nothing happend. When I purged cache all the files clear to default then one by one went back to the other settings with saturations and viggnettes. Now whenever I open any folder in bridge the settings are all aplied to my new folders and all my pictures. When I'm in a new folder I can select all and clear settings then start fresh, but if I close bridge and reopen those old settings are reapllied. This happens to all types of pictures to include CR2, DNG and JPGs.

When I purged cache all the files clear to default then one by one went back
to the other settings with saturations and viggnettes. Now whenever I open any
folder in bridge the settings are all aplied to my new folders and all my
    pictures.
Sounds like you have accidently set a new camera Raw default?. First open a
file in ACR and in the basic tab right next to 'basic' is a little menu icon
with a fly out menu. Choose reset Camera Raw defaults and try again.

  • Kernel Panic after Reformat?

I certainly thought this blinking light issue was cure by
reformatting/reinstalling Tiger. But, today while browsing I suddenly got a grey/blacked out screen with a message in five languages; 'You must shut down and reboot the computer using the power button'. I did, and upon restart the sleep light immediately began blinking again. I haven't had time yet to check the HD for bad messages I was receiving before the reformat, but will soon. Was this a kernel panic? I had just rebuilt all docs/iTunes etc...Hate to go through that again, but wondering if another try on it may work? Thanks

Hello cornelius - Well, I may be defeated here on this. I did the reformat/reinstall the old fashioned way; I erased the HDD from Disk Utility, then ran the Tiger disk for the reinstall, then firewired back iTunes/docs etc from my eMac G4. Those error readings I reported this morning were from booting from the install disk, then running disk utility. Before responding to your last post here, I ran disk utility siply from the app, with no disk, and got the following message; 'incorrect number of Extended Attributes', and 'HDD needs repair'. I do hate to have to do this all over, but it's hard to imagine DW or TTP doing any more after a complete erase sequence.
If it helps, I'll paste here your response to me from 8/5/08 that I used to format the new harddrive after I installed it. Hoping that these would be the best method for the reformat/reinstall I recently performed. Thanks much.
    viejo62:
As Joe explained, a new HDD needs to be formatted before you install. Here are step by step directions:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
    Select language
    • Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
    • Click on Options button
    • Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
    • Click OK
    • Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
    • Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
    • Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    • Select Erase tab
    • Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
    • Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
    • Click Erase button
    • Quit Disk Utility.
Your HDD is now ready for installation. If you have your entire HDD cloned to an external firewire HDD, you can now boot from the external and clone back. Or, if you prefer to install fresh and then restore, here are step by step directions for installation:
    Installation Process
While booted from the install disk
    • Open Installer and begin installation.
    • Select installation option
    • Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Optional: Check box to install X11 (Tiger) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
    • Proceed with installation.
    • After installation computer will restart for setup.
    • After setup, reboot computer.
    • Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select First Aid in main panel.
    • Click Repair Disk Permissions.
    • Connect to Internet.
    • Download and install Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo update (PPC) (Tiger) or
    10.3.9 Combo Update (Panther)
    Computer will restart.
    • Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
    • Go to Apple Menu > Software Update.
    • Install all updates.
    Computer may restart after updates.
    • Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select First Aid in main panel.
    • Click Repair Disk Permissions.

  • DNS reverting back to old settings

We are in the process of upgrading our Active Directory to Windows Server 2008 R2, from 2003.
There is a new primary and secondary DNS that we're still in the process of changing across all servers and devices that require DNS settings to be specified.
It has worked successfully on most servers and devices, however on other servers, for example Unix and Linux type virtual machines the DNS reverts back to the old settings after they are changed resulting in the server continuing to query the old DNS server
    and not the new one.
I've been through the forums to find the answers but haven't found a lot of matches and want to explore all possibilities as to why this could be happening from the 2008 AD perspective before looking at the OS level.
Has anyone come across anything like this?
I'd be most interested to hear how you fixed it and what the cause is.

I am having this same issue within my organization. Some servers change while others don´t. What is unique about my situation is that it´s all Server 2003 physical servers, no issues with 2008 and any flavor VM. Here is what I´ve tried thus far on one of
the servers to attempt to remedy this but none of these have worked (for me at least):
     In no particular order
    Restarted the DNS Client Service
    Did a full Virus/Malware scan
Checked for any applications that could be changing the DNS settings
    Repaired NETSTACK
    Installed updated network drivers
Changed the DNS settings with a local admin account (non-domain admin)
Applied a Flush DNS on all of the servers after changing to the new DNS settings
Removed the old DNS servers from the Name Servers tab in the SOA record in DNS Manager on the primary DNS server
Scavenged Stale Resource Records on both the old and new DNS Servers
I hope some of this info is helpful to you, I´ve combed the internet for any info on this issue but found very little. I also hope you find a fix! Peace.

  • When updating to new IOS on Ipad i lost my purchases in DJ Rig How can i get my old settings back?

Does anyone know how to reset your old settings or how i can get them to give me the update so i do not have to purchase again.

Unless the device was backed up prior to restoring the backup from the iPod Touch, there is nothing to restore.
Just set up the email account again... it's not difficult, but you may need information from your corporate IT dept to set it up.

  • MAC OSX 10.4.11 I finally succumbed to the constant irritating messages telling me that I didn't have the latest version. My old version and all my bookmarks have been deleted my Mac says it doesn't support Firefox! How can I recuperate my old settings?

MAC OSX 10.4.11 I succumbed to the constant messages telling me that I didn't have the latest version, despite being happy with the one I had. My old version and all my bookmarks have been deleted and now my Mac says it doesn't support Firefox!!!!! How can I recuperate my old settings? in English

Firefox 4 versions and later '''do not run on a PowerPC Mac''' (like yours) and require '''at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac'''.
The latest supported version for your os is '''3.6.27''' , you can download it from:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    1. Download a 3.6.27 copy of the Firefox from the above link
    2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install.
    3. Install the new version that you have downloaded(3.6.27)
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so probably you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data, if you don't already ''totally'' uninstall firefox(user data and settings like bookmarks, extensions, etc. located here: ~Library/Application Support/Firefox so you must uninstall it separately, to totally uninstall firefox).

  • After reformatting hard drive, iPod syncs very slowly with iTunes

A couple of months ago I had to reformat my computer's hard drive. I keep all my music files on an external hard drive. After reformatting, the man who did this for me reloaded iTunes for me and imported all my music back into my iTunes library.
It seems that since that time, when I sync my iPod to the iTunes library, it takes many times longer than it used to. Maybe something else happened to my iPod or iTunes and the reformat is just a conincidence, but it really does seem to take three or four times longer to sync.
I have iTunes 7.4.1.2 and my iPod is an older one, a 40G with dock connector
Also, I recently bought some audiobooks to put on my iPod. I only had about 600megs available so the iPod would not sync. I then removed several Gigs from my iTunes library. When I click on the "music" icon under "library" it shows that I have only a little over 29G used which should leave well over 5 plus Gigs available for the new music. But when I try to sync the iPod, it gives me the message that I have only approx. 600 megs available. What's up. I never have had this problem before and I have had the iPod for several years.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

I actually learned yesterday that Apple didn't put USB 2.0 in their Macs until G5... something I was VERY irritated to find out. Turns out they were betting that Fire Wire would take off instead of USB 2.0, so they only equipped their machines with USB 1.1. So as a result, my iPod is unacceptably slow. Other nagging problems like this are convincing me that I'll have to get a new Mac Pro in the coming year, but for the meantime I think I'll be buying a USB 2.0 PCI card.
    Thanks for your response.

How can I force iTunes to let me backup my iPhone to my computer as a new phone?  It is not asking me if it is a new device but is trying to restore my old settings.

Go to iTunes Preferences, Devices tab. Check the box "Prevent iPods, iPhones & iPads from syncing automatically".
then connect the phone, click on its name, and click the "Restore iPhone" button.
