After repairing my Library, photos are in "Preview" quality on my iPhone

I have some crash of iPhoto since the 9.3...
I repair the rights, the preview pictures and all other options of my library... and now it's better.
But now when I make a synchro with iTunes... all my photos on the iPhone4S are in very low quality (like the preview picture I think).
On the iPad, it's good I have no problem.

I try to remove the iPod Photo Cache...
The old makes more than 20Gb... and now only 40 Mb :/
The .ithmb have a size of 0 byte.

  • Library photos: are they originals or originals and versions?

    Hi,
In my library photos: are the thumbnails the originals, can it contain versions?  I deleted numerous images from my library photos, when I delete them from the trash, a pop-up asks if I want to delete all versions... are these thumbnails the originals or can it contain versions also.
    Thank you
    Barb

    Barb,
the forum software is acting up today - I see your question only in the email notifications, not in the thread?
With respect to deleting masters and versions, you may also have a look at Frank Caggiano's user tip:                  Deleting version also deleted the master
Because my iphoto crashed, I've spent many long hours on the support line with Apple. Then, my iMac was in the Apple store for 2 weeks while all the techs attempted to repair the crash.  As part of the recovery of photos, the tech and I created one Aperture managed library. To ensure we didn't lose any photos, I, along with the Apple tech imported all the photo files in Finder; we knew we were going to get duplicates, even triples, but this was to ensure I didn't lose any photos. I now want to delete the duplicates, etc.  In the library photos, I sorted the images by size and started to delete the duplicates and triples leaving just one image.  Would you suggest another way?
So you got the images without any original filenames from a data recovery software? Then your images neither have the original filename, nor the creation date, nor any tags and keywords?
That is a really bad situation - sorry. The standard duplicate annihilator programs look for duplicates based on filenames, dates, sizs. But they will not be able to recognize your triplets of  thumbnail, preview, original by comparing the content of the image. Aperture certainly cannot do this.
And I know of no newer external tool that can do this, but google for it. Maybe there are recent developments I am not aware of. Comparing the content of images with pattern recognition tools is a standard algorithm that should be available by now as a tool.
I sorted the images by size and started to delete the duplicates and triples leaving just one image.
Without any metadata to the images I see no other way. But it would help to bek the problem down into smaller batches of images - "divide and conquer" is a well-known approach to make hopelessly complex problems tractable.
I'd start by creating smart albums based on the size to keep the thumbnail sized images out of the way.
Then create projects for images you can recognize as images of certain events, like family pictures, vacation pictures.
Then drag the the images to their corresponding projects - even if you can only find a few groups that you can create, this will you save a lot of scrolling when comparing. It will be much easier to compare and recognize images, if there are not so many of them in the project or album you are looking at.

  • After all the updates (itunes 10.6, iphone 5.1, and iphoto) all my photos are suddenly being synced with my iPhone.

After all the updates (itunes 10.6, iphone 5.1, and iphoto) all my photos are suddenly being synced with my iphone. Before I was able to pick the "last 12 months" or last import, or certain album. Now everything is greyed out?

After deleting files, there does not seem much improvement on the disk space.
    Felicia,
Download Omni Disk Sweeper: it is free now and will list your files and folders sorted by size.
But don't get carried away and sweep and delete anything that you do not know what is is required for:
    http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnidisksweeper/download/
I recovered from time machines's backup harddisk
Time Machine may be using the disk space - if you have Time Machine enabled and not the backup drive connected, TM will make local snapshots, if you have free disk space. See Pondini's webpage for more information: Time Machine - Questions 30. What are Local Snapshots?
I disable these local snapshots on my portable macs, to be sure, how much space really is free.

Headsets don't come with the iPad. All you get is the iPad, USB cable and wall charger.

  • Why is it that 393 photos are taking up 10gb on my iphone 5?

Why is it that 393 photos are taking up 10gb on my iphone 5?

How did you determine that?  Does your Camera Roll also include videos?  They are photos and videos are lumped together under "Usage."

  • ICloud photos are available on Apple TV and iPhone but only some are showing up on my PC.

My iCloud photos are available on Apple TV and iPhone but only habout half of them show up on my laptop (windoes 8). On my old laptop I could view all photos and download etc. I tried to trouble shoot using advice here but not I can't see any of them on my laptop.

I have the same problem. One-time events are showing up everywhere, but repeating events (the majority of my schedule!) are not showing up on icloud (they do show up on my computer at home and on my iphone...)

  • My CD has photos with info which I can read. On 'Import to library', photos are imported without the info. How can I fix it?

My CD has photos with info which I can read off the CD. On 'Import to Library' the photos are imported to my iPhoto but info is not. How can I import photos including info?

When you say "info", what do you mean exactly? What kind of info and where is it being stored? Is it in a separate file(s), or is it metadata in the file itself? All EXIF data is retained (that's a standard for camera image files) such as date taken, camera model, exposure, location, etc, when you import into iPhoto. If you've added data in some non-standard way, it won't be retained.

  • My PC has been restored to factory settings some of my photos are in a album on my iphone only how can i get them back onto my pc

I have had to restore my PC to factory settings and didnt back up all of my photos but they are in seperate albums on my iphone 4 how can i get them back onto my pc many thaks johnmall

You can transfer contents from your iPhone back to iTunes library:
First, *BEFORE you connect the iPhone, please go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPad, iPhones and iPods"*.
Then, for those songs that you purchased on your iPhone: Transfer purchases from iPod to iTunes.
For all other non purchased contents (your photos etc), their are ton of third party programs, some is free: iDump, Floola. Some is shareware, but they does preserve playlist/ratings/playcounts/artworks etc: iCopyBot, CopyTrans

  • Photos are not being transferred from my iPhone

When I plug my iPhone into my Mac Mini running Lion my photos are not being transferred to my mac even tho the sync completes. The phone is running ios 5
    Help

I'm just clarifying here.  It sounds like you are using iTunes to sync your iPhone, which is fine, but iTunes isn't built to remove the photos off your phone and put them on your computer.  Try opening iPhoto and importing all your photos there.

  • Images doubled after repairing the library

    Hi there,
I had some trouble with my library.
I went through repair permissions - no probem.
Then i selected "repair library at startup" - this led to a doubling of my image count!
However, the "double" images seem to be empty, i only see white dot-lines and the same keywords as the preceding image has. All those images are found in a project "restored projects".
I have reproduced this error a few times now, i have to idea whats going on.
I have also opened the aperture library package, deleted the .xml file, and it also had no effects.
    Anybody has an idea?
of course, its newest aperture 3.03 , mac os x 10.6.4 and so on.
I have some 20.000 images in my library

alexander -- I'm sorry to hear about your problems; your frustration that Aperture is not working well for you is understandable.  Complaining about that -- or anything -- on this discussion board won't help.  We are an unaffiliated group of Aperture enthusiast who volunteer our time and expertise to help people like you make the most of Aperture.  We have no connection to Apple, Inc.  Speaking for myself, I find your attitude off-putting.
Have you tried exporting all the containers in your Library via "Export→Project as New Library"?  You should do this, of course, after (once again) weeding out the problem images.
Trouble-shooting is a painstaking process of elimination.  Eventually you'll either resolve the issue or determine that it is unresolvable.  You are not there yet.
{Added}  What are the five settings you are using for Previews (as shown on "Aperture→Preferences→Previews")?  It may be worth addressing the very long processing on closing Aperture issue separately.  When was the last time you force-quit Aperture?

  • After moving itunes library paths are still set to old drive

I have moved my itunes library from my hard drive to a network connected NAS drive. The problem I'm finding is that itunes now can't find the songs in the library as they still show (when looking at 'Get info') the path to the old location).
    I have done the following:
1 copied all song files in the 'itunes music' folder as well as the files in the folder above (including 'itunes library.itl' and 'itunes library.xml') to the new location
2 Checked the boxes in Edit > Preferences > Advanced that read 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized' and 'Copy Files to ITunes Media folder when adding to library'.
3 Changed the iTunes Media Folder location to the new location (the same folder as the 'itunes library.itl' file is held.
4 Re-started iTunes while holding the shift button so that I can 'choose' the library, then browsed to the new location and selected the 'itunes library.itl' file in the new location.
None of this has any effect. This is what I've noticed:
a - The individual files cannot be found and when I right click and choose 'get info' it shows that the path is still set to the old location
b - The 'itunes library.xml' file still shows links to the old path for each of the individual songs.
c - I can manually 'point' the songs individually to the new location so that they can be found - although this is not an option for the whole library which is several thousand. I do this when I get the error message 'The song 'xxxx' cound not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?'.
d - I import a new CD or buy a new song from iTunes, the songs are correctly located on the new drive and play with no problems.
Can anyone tell me if I've missed a step? If I was to guess, I'd say that the 'itunes library.itl' still has all the old paths for the individual songs, but I don't know how to get iTunes to re-create or update that file and can't edit it myself.
    Regards, Steve.

Thanks for that R. I'd seen a few of those posts but none of them seemed to match my query exactly.
However, I seem to have found a solution to my own problem. Whether it will help with yours I don't know (looks like you're a Mac user) but here's what I've found:
    * The basic problem was with the file itunes music.itl' which was still pointing iTunes to the old location of the music files. I don't know why it didn't update this file when all the 'consolidating files' was done but there you go. This is not in a format editable by ordinary mortals, but you can re-create it if it gets corrupted by editing another file called 'itunes music.xml', which is in an editable format.
    * It seems the .xml file basically contains all the .itl file information and is used essentially as a backup (my guess, don't know if it's correct). So deleting the .itl file and then re-creating it by telling the system to import the information from the .xml file is the thing to do. Here's how I did it:
    * Go to the new drive and path where you've copied your itunes library to. I copied both the two files above first just in case to my desktop (doesn't really matter where). They're in the 'Music' folder above the folder where all your music files are kept (music files are kept in 'iTunes Music' in my setup).
    * Edit the 'itunes music.xml' file. You'll need a good text editor with search and replace functions to do this as you'll have to do the same number of replacements as you have song files - in my case a number of thousand. Even better than a standard text editor would be an XML editor as that will make the text file easier to read (I used Dreamweaver just because I already have it on my system).
    * If you look through your xml file you'll see all your songs listed with lots of other information such as track id. At the end you'll see a line that says something like:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost//EDNET01/Users/Steve/My%20Documents/My%20Music/iTunes/iTunes%20 Music/Bob%20Dylan/Modern%20Times/01%20Thunder%20On%20the%20Mountain.m4p</string>
If you're in the same position as me you'll notice that the path name is wrong (it's still showing the old path and drive). So the job is basically to edit and replace each of the paths to show the new drive and path.
*To do this with a single search and replace you don't need to change the album and file name, nor should you need to change the folder containing all the song files. This is the search and replace change I made then:
Search (all instances, hopefully if your text editor will allow it):
    //localhost//EDNET01/Users/Steve/My%20Documents/My%20Music/iTunes/
    Replace with:
    //localhost/X:/FamilyMusic/
which is the drive and path where I've moved my itunes music to. The song folders are in the folder below that called 'itunes music'.
    * Once you've saved this file (and having a backup copy of the old .itl and .xml files saved somewhere just in case) delete the two old files from the new folder where you've copied your music
    * Open iTunes. Go to File > Library > Import playlist.
    * Navigate to your newly edited version of 'itunes music.xml'. Select it and you should find that itunes begins rebuilding your library with the new paths and creates a new 'itunes music.itl' file in the process.
Once that's done you should have your music, podcasts and playlists back.
** Disclaimer ** I'm no iTunes expert so I don't know if this is the 'proper' way to do things. If it doesn't work you should be ok to replace the copied files back into your music folder and no damage done, but in any event I'm not responsible for any problems. Make sure you've got backups is my advice!

  • Photos are displayed in different Order on iPhone, iPad and fotostream. Who knows the algoritm of ordering

Apple support can reproduce the Problem. 10 pictures are displayed in Differenz Order. But Nonne can explanier the algoritm of ordering. Its Not timebased,

On iOS 5 (if viewing individual photo albums on the iPad) the photo sorting order should be by filename, on iOS 4 it's date taken (from here) :
iOS 4 sorts photos by the Date Taken tag of the photos. Specifically, your device uses the pictures' EXIF tags to determine the Date Taken information. Your device will look for the following EXIF tags within your pictures:
    Capture Date
    Date Time Digitized
    Date Time Original
    Last Modified
So you will need to change their names or their dates

  • TS1702 My resent photos are on Camera Roll in the iPhone. How do I transfer them to Photo Stream?

How do I transfer Photos from Camera Roll to Photo Stream on the iPhone? I need to WiFi them to my other devises.

Only photos in taken on your phone after turning on Photo Stream will be uploaded.  Any photos taken prior to this will not be uploaded.  If you need to transfer these photos to your other devices you can either import them to your computer an upload them to Photo Stream from there, or you can use an app like PhotoSync, which will also wirelessly send them to your other devices.

  • Photos are not sycning in order to iPhone

I recently uploaded photos to my iPhone for the first time. I made separate folders with photos in a specific order, and then synced with my phone. Once it was done, I looked up the photos on my iPhone and they were in a completely different order. Is there a way to prevent this or a setting to change it?

It seems to be sorting it by date created but like I said before, only the Canon 5D Mark II has its own group, then proceeds with the other cameras in another group sort by date created
Did you double checked the correct date and time for the files like ChaseLiard suggested?
    Two other things to try:
use menu tools / cache and choose purge cache for folder.
Or reset prefs for Bridge holding down option (Mac) and control (Win) while restarting bridge and from the menu choose reset prefs. (this will set everything back to factory default and you need to reset every custom settings you have made yourself, not a big problem but just to let you know.

  • Photos are taking up space on my iPhone, but I have no photos.

When I sync my 16GB iPhone 4 to my MacBook Pro, the bar at the bottom shows that it is currently holding over 5GB of photos. I have only a few hundred from the camera, and none from iPhoto on my Mac. This is preventing me from syncing music and other files to my device, and it's becoming extremely inconvenient... Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue or ideas about why this might be happening? Thanks in advance.

Do you have any lengthy videos in your Camera Roll that could be causing your problem?
If not, the issue may be a software glitch that could be resolved by updating your software to the newest version, 4.2.8.
    I hope this helps.
