After restore new 3gs is missing old pictures

I just received my new 3GS today and backed my old 3G and then restored it and them plugged new 3GS up and chose restore from back up on 08/20/09. When it was finished it only had 100 of the 200+ pictures on it. Pictures on phone now are from first gen iPhone up to xmas'08... I really want those picture back, is there a way to retrieve them? Thank!

Photos in your iPhone's camera roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Although photos in the camera roll are included with your iPhone's backup, so is quite a bit of other data, so it isn't a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup alone for these photos.
With XP, you can use the camera and scanner wizard.
Did you restore your 3G with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup? If not and these photos are still available in the camera roll on the 3G, you can import the photos.
If you restored your 3G as a new iPhone - the photos are no longer available in the camera roll, you can try using a 3rd party utility like this one to see if all photos are available with the backup for your 3G.

  • IPhoto events and pictures missing from iPhoto after restoring new hard drive and upgrade to iLife11

My iPhoto events and pictures are ALL missing from my iPhoto Library after I tried restoring my programs on a new hard drive AND upgrading to iLife11!  Over the last few months, I upgraded my 2008 Macbook Pro's hard drive from a 250 GB to a 500 GB hard drive and since then have been manually installing and restoring programs and software.  I decided to do things manually because I had problems with doing Time Machine backups/restores in the past, so before I upgraded the drive, I manually saved everything to a Western Digital MyStudio 1 TB hard drive that I had just for the purposes of a second back up.  Anyway, I tried importing the pictures onto the new library, but couldn't find the hard copies at first, so that didn't work.  I then tried deleting the iPhoto Library that came with new operating system, then copying my old backup onto the new hard drive...that didn't work either.  However, when I right clicked on the iPhoto Library icon on my external hard drive (the original) and clicked on "show package contents," the folder not only contained the originals, but they were still organized by year and event just as I had them originally!
So, then I thought "why don't I try just importing the pictures directly into the new iPhoto Library!"
I tested it out, and sure enough, it worked!  I then tried importing an entire folder (which, was actually the name of the event), and again it worked!  So, I literally clicked and dragged my entire 2007-2009 library of pictures (which was about 35 GB) back into my iPhoto Library!  AND, this only took about 30 minutes to download, enough time for me to write this post and the following instructions to Recap:
              1. Open your new iPhoto Library
              2. Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
              3. Click on "Show Package Contents"
              4. Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
              5. Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
              6. DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reaseon, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
I assume this could work on other iLife programs, but luckily I have MobileMe and my iCalendar updated itself, though I did have to do some tweeking...
Hope this helps other people out, GOOD LUCK!

I'm re-posting the answer to this problem so I can show it has been answered:
    Open your new iPhoto Library
Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
    Click on "Show Package Contents"
Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reason, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
              GOOD LUCK!!!

  • When restoring new iPhone 4S from old iPhone 3GS, Siri is gone

OK. so I brought home my new iPhone 4S. I plugged it in and answered the questions, the synced it. Nice, apps are there but no data. OK. so get online, figure out that I need to restore from the backup of my previous phone to get my data. So I do that. Sweet, data is there, looks just like the iPhone 3gs. Well, to much like the iPhone 3GS. Siri appears to not be on the phone. I'm thinking, sync the phone. Return the phone to factory default, then sync it back. Will that work?

To be clear...make sure you go into Settings/General, not just 'Settings'.
Like a tard, I made this mistake and was looking for Siri a level up from where she was.

  • After restoring new 1phone4s to factory settings, icons were missing: fact time, hd video, find my phone., after restoring new 1phone4s to factory settings, icons were missing: fact time, hd video, find my phone.

New iphone4s had to be restored to factory settings.  Built in apps now missing:  face time,  hd video, find my phone.
    Apple phone support was crap.
Att told me to call Apple.
How do I get the icons back?

Facetime is not an icon.  You go to contacts, pick the contact, then scroll down to the facetime button.
There is no HD video icon either, you take videos and they are hd.
Find my iphone is an app.  It is not built-in.  You would have to download it from itunres and then sync it to iphone.

  • After Restoring My Backup is missing

I had called tech support and had to restore my iphone and then once i fixed the issue i could restore it back. After I restored it the first time I set it up as a new phone and it made a backup under a different name. Then once i restored it again to go to my original settings/back up, it is missing. Is there anyway I can find the backup somewhere on the computer

The iPhone backup is stored at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Within that folder will be one or more folders with long, hexadecimal UIDs for names - each is a backup. You should also be able to see a list of available backups in iTunes > Edit menu > Preferences > Devices. Note that iTunes only keeps one backup per device, so if you Restore and set up as new, then sync the phone, that overwrites the old backup.

  • Apps disappeared after restored new iphone 4 from back up

I just restored my new iphone 4 from my last 3GS back up, and all of my apps are gone! The folders I created are there, as is my 'wallpaper' and my address book, but none of my old apps.
I had to transfer the back up file (which took FOREVER) from my Mac to my PC laptop, because my Mac is running 10.4.11 and therefore work work with iphone 4. Updating the Mac to 10.6 is not an option b/c it's got a powerpc processor, and rather than shell out 125 bones for Leopard, I am going to replace the Mac (when I can afford to do so).
So does anyone have any idea why my apps didn't make it onto the new phone? Does it have to do with the fact that the phone was synced with the itunes library on my Mac? I will need to sync it to the Itunes library on the PC from now on(which is empty at the moment). Itunes asked if I wanted to sync it with this new library, but seems to suggest that doing that would wipe the phone. I can usually find the guidance I need through a search, but as my situation is a little complicated, I've been unable to find anything related to my specific problem. Any advice about how to rescue my apps would be most appreciated.

I just had this happen yesterday! Ggggggrrrrr. I was trying to update a couple apps on my iPhone 4, and a message kept popping up saying “Can’t connect to iTunes”. After about 3 tries I thought maybe I just needed to reboot the phone.
After the reboot and my iPhone turned back on, there were no more folders (except for one labeled ‘Utilities’ with about 4 apps in it on my home screen), and I had 11 pages of apps!
All my apps were not visible because I have more than can fit on 11 pages, so I had to wait until I got home and synced with iTunes, then all my apps were visible.
I had to manually recreate all my folders. I certainly hope Apple fixes this bug before it happens again – it’s beyond annoying!!

  • New itunes wont restore new iphone 5 from old phones backup

My new iphone 5 refuses to restore from a backup of my old 4S using i tunes (latest version).
It recognises it as a new phone, asks where to restore from,
It starts the restore then freezes indicating 1 minute left,
this then turns into 2 minutes, 3 minutes 4,5,6, and on and on
I have about 20G of music on the old phone and i cloud will only accept 5Gig
    Any advice

  • How to restore new ipad air from old ipad backup using itunes.

I'm trying to get all of the content from an old iPad onto new iPad air. I backed up the old iPad on iTunes, and when I plug in the new iPad air, it prompted that I must first update the software in order to back it up. I updated the software, but now I'm not sure how to get the old iPad backup onto the new iPad because it isn't seeing the new iPad as brand new anymore. How to I transfer the old stuff onto the new one after updating the software? I'm using iTunes for Windows.

    Hey jh232808,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you want to restore a backup to a new iOS device. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
    Restore using iTunes
Use these steps if you have a new iOS device, or you need to to restore after a factory reset:
Connect your device to the computer that has your backup.
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Choose File > Devices > Restore from Back up.
You won't be able to install a backup that uses a later version of iOS than the device you're trying to install it on. Find out why.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Problem viewing photos after restoring new iPhone 6

Got a new iPhone 6 yesterday. Followed the basic steps to duplicating my old 5 to the 6 and synced perfectly. However, when I went to view my photos, I noticed that nearly all of them were blank/white. The phone recognized that there were photos but would not show them or load them. Can I get some help on how to get my photos to show? I also have iCloud Library Sharing turned on.

    Greetings kspenrath,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Camera app on your iPhone. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities,

  • Bad dates after downloading a single roll with old pictures.

Using iPhoto 6.0.5 I downloaded a roll from a camera that I rarely use, with dates starting in 2005 and ending recently. Download went OK but all subsequent rolls (2) have bad "original date" bad "digitized date" and bad "modified date". They are off by a couple of years and as far as I can tell have no correspondence with the unusual roll. Tried to correct by creating a new roll but dates were still bad after. As far as I can tell the times seem to be correct. Dates on identical downloads to backup Powerbook are correct!

    Richard:
If you can export those files out of iPhoto you can batch correct the Capture Date (they are from a digital camera are they not?) with PhotoInfo. Then reimport into iPhoto and the new dates will be recognized. You can do a search for "file date" at VersionTracker.com to get a number of potential applications that can do the job.
If they do not have an EXIF Capture Date then you can use other 3rd party applications to change the Created Date of the file and have iPhoto use that.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • After restoring my 3Gs I now have duplicate--sometimes triplicate calendar entries. How can I delete the duplicates from the phone?

On the info tab I'm told that my calendar is being synced through MobileMe and directly with the computer resulting in duplicated data. How do I prevent that? And how do I now delete the duplicates from the phone?
I notice that the entries from the computer show "Busy" in the status while the others--probably from MobileMe-- do not.
    Ron

Solved the problem...I think. In the Calendar app I clicked on the Calendars button. There I found, under Show All Calendars "From My Mac." There I found not only the calendars as they appear in iCal and MobileMe, but the same items with brackets containing my MobileMe address plus other info that isn't visible enough to see what it is (looks like "@calendar).

  • I just got a new iPhone 6 but when I did the restore from backup of my old iPhone 4; none of my pictures were there and almost all of my calendar was missing. Can anyone help?

Hi, I just bought an iPhone 6, 64GB and had everything ready to do the "restore from backup" from my old iPhone 4 8GB. It kept stopping and I'd have to start over from the beginning. When I finally got it to do something with the help of my provider(who had walked me thru from the beginning anyway); I figured I was all set. Then I went to see my pics to use one for my lock screen and there were NO PICTURES AT ALL and only part of my calendar came over. I'm missing a lot of future appointments that I know are set up. I made sure not to wipe out my old one yet; as I will have to since I did the trade in plan; so I still have my old iPhone 4 and it has everything in it, in addition to having the backup on two computers in the house.
I also tried syncing it after the restore since things were missing, but that didn't work either.
I would appreciate any help so I can use my phone and get going with it.
    Thanks!

Did you choose the wrong back up? There should be a drop box when you go to "Restore from Back up" in iTunes and your iPhone is plugged in, on the Summary page. Choose the correct back up. If you can't find one, and you still have your device, back up your iPhone 4 again and then choose that back up. Or check for an old iCloud back up if you have one.
