After restoring from TC from Yosemite to Mavericks, I lost my Parallels virtual machine.  Any way to restore?

My situation was that my older iMac met the bare minimum requirements to use Yosemite so I went for it.   It was super slow so I decided to go backwards from Yosemite back to Mavericks.
I booted in the internet recovery mode and restored from my TC backup.   Took a long time (like 9+ hours) for this process to run its course.  When it completed, all appears well except that it seems I've lost the virtual machines I had installed using the software Parallels.  This makes sense I guess as my hard drive was wiped to make room for it.  It didn't hit me that this would happen as when I upgraded to Yosemite it was working just on that part of the hard drive.  Just ran with going backwards (my fault) for not thinking that the entire hard drive would be wiped.
So, long intro to asking, is there any way to restore that virtual machine from a TC backup?  Not sure if those files are saved somewhere on the Mac or in TC to somehow restore?
Thanks.

Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Erase and format the hard drive (Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then reinstall the OS. Use Setup Assistant to transfer from Time Machine.

  • Roll back from yosemite to mavericks without time machine

    I am currently a user of Retina Macbook Pro late 2013, 13", i5 with 2.4 GHz, 8gb, 1600MHz DDR3.
I faced a huge problem after updating my mac from Mavericks 10.9.5 to Yosemite 10.10, this has caused my mac to running slow, but before updating it was so smooth and worked perfectly.
    - Yosemite causes my mac to be so laggy when scrolling up and down. Sometimes, it crashes all of a sudden when you are just watching a video using Safari.
    - Scrolling through PDF files is so laggy
    - Minimizing Apps is not as smooth as before.
    My Question :
    - How to roll back to mavericks/ downgrade from yosemite to mavericks? provided that i didn't not have a time machine backup. And so far i could not find any installer for mavericks in app store.

No. You need to first erase the drive then install Mavericks. Try backing up your files (Home folder) somewhere. Boot from your Mavericks drive. From it use Disk Utility to erase your Yosemite drive. Clone the Mavericks drive to the drive you just erased. Now restore your data from the backup you made.
Of course if your Mavericks drive also has a current copy of your Home folder from the Yosemite computer, then all you need to do is boot from it, erase the Yosemite drive, clone the Mavericks drive and you're done.

  • I purchased an album from the itunes store on my ipad2 thinking i could retrieve it from my windows pc. I have turned on home sharing and can see my pc library from the ipad but not vice-versa. Is there any way to transfer the album from my ipad library?

I purchased an album from the itunes store on my Ipad2 thinking i could access it from my windows laptop where I sync my ipod. I turned on Home Sharing and can see my laptop libraries from my ipad but not vice versa. Is there any way to fix this so I can transfer the album to the itunes on my laptop?

Yes I tried that. I finally turned off all home sharing settings, shut down my desktop and found them in my account settings in the store on the cloud. So at that point I just had it download everything. But I suspect that with the ipad somehow being on, the store was saying I had already received them? Regardless, my trip today whilst running errands, I was rocking out to vintage Police music! Thank you so much for responding.

Your only option is to sell the iPad and buy a new one.

Had Christmas pictures of family and friends.  I'll be so sad if I can't them back.

You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update or restore.
If you failed to do this, then they are very likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup

Yosemite Mail deleted all my outgoing server settings. Any way to retrieve them?

What is your email provider (e.g Gmail, Microsoft, Yahoo, Comcast, AT&T, etc...), and what email client software are you using (Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc)?
It's likely far easier to just Google the correct settings for your mail provider and recreate the outgoing (SMTP) settings.

Try resetting the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Revert from Yosemite to Maverick

I downloaded Yosemite a few days ago and made the bone headed mistake of not backing up my files before upgrading to yosemite, my macbook pro won't start up normal without freezing a getting the spinning wheel. The only way I can get into my Macbook is to do safe mode start up. I've tried repairing the disk but no help. I want to revert from yosemite back to maverick, I don't have another Mac to get Maverick from to put on a thumb drive but I read somewhere that I could go to the app store and go to "purchases" and re download Maverick through safe mode, would that work? I also don't want it to delete my files if I do that.

You must first erase the hard drive and install an earlier version of OS X that will work in order to re-download Mavericks. So you need to install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. However, if that version preceded Snow Leopard, then you can reinstall Snow Leopard from the retail DVD and update it to 10.6.8. If your computer came with Lion or later pre-installed then do this:
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Why did the colors on my Mac Air go weird when I connected it to my projector after updating from SL to Mavericks?

4 days ago, I updated my iOS on my Mac Air from SL to Mavericks. I connected it up with my projector to check on a keynote presentation I was preparing. The colors on my Mac went a strange greenish hue and this was accurately mirrored through the projector onto the screen. I tried to adjust the color setting in Displays and played around with different resolutions in the vain hope that something would fix it, but nothing did. There were all these new customized color adjustments you could do which I had never seen before. I have a MBP that I hadn't (fortunately) updated and went I connected it to my projector (with which I have never had any issues with before with my two Macs), there was absolutely no problem so I know it is very definitely an issue with Mavericks. In the end, in desperation as I do a lot of presentations and I can't afford to have this happening, I erased my hard drive and restored SL from Time Machine which I had fortunately done a back up just before doing the update. I had read in some previous threads here that restoring to a previous iOS is a long and complicated process but it was fortunately not the case for me - my Time Machine did it painlessly for me. My question is - I am now too afraid to try Mavericks again - but is there an explanation why this happened to my Mac Air?

Check Settings > General > Cellular > Cellular Data and make sure it's "On".

  • Iphoto problems after downgrade from Yosemite to OSX 10.8.5

After a successfull downgrade from Yosemite to 10.8.5 Mountain Lion my ( 'old Yosemite' ) iPhoto backup is not compatible with iPhoto reinstall.
Is there a way to repair or fix this problem?
My patience involving the dramatic Yosemite 'upgrade' is tested to the max I need to say.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Yosemite uses a newer iPhoto version than OS X Mountain Lion, so it is normal that you cannot use your iPhoto library in Mountain Lion again.
Maybe you will not like what I am going to tell you, but have you tried a Yosemite clean install instead of an upgrade? A lot of users have reported problems with the upgrade to Yosemite, and a clean installation fixes all these problems, because you are going to format the hard drive and install OS X Yosemite as new. I recommend you to try this.
