After restoring my phone, I found my iCloud storage deleted

My iPhone 5 went into the infamous "brick" mode for a few hours the other day. It would not load after the Apple logo. I tried all the tricks online (the volume up button trick, etc) then finally connected my phone to iTunes to restore it. I back up my phone every night on iCloud so I knew I would have a recent backup of the night before. Well, I plugged it into iTunes, it did the restore, and when I tried to set it up from iCloud it said there were not any available back-ups (on my phone or iTunes) Prior to brick mode, I had 10 GB of data saved out 15 GB. After restoration, my iCloud said I had 0.5 GB out of 15 GB. Trying not to freak out, but I have no idea what happened. I backed everything up and I still lost a lot. Fortunately after plugging my phone into iPhoto, I was able to at least get the last 30 days of my photos from Photostream. I am a photographer and know the importance of backing up information, which is why this is very sad and ironic. I went with the iCloud route as my computer and hard drives are already filled with photos. I carry my professional camera with me nearly everywhere and also emailed myself a bunch of the more important photos from my phone, so the hit isn't as bad as it could be if it was my only form of documentation, but there were still a few photos I would like to retrieve if anyone knows of any software or way to do this. Has anyone had this happen to them before? Very strange. For the record, my phone is not and has never been jailbroken. Thank you in advance for any replies!

Thanks for replying.  I had to do this process in order to get ICloud activated so I don't have it there.  I do have an external backup of the Itunes library, but it sounds like that would also restore the restriction password that I don't know.
Why would ICloud be different (if I had backed up there?) Does it only save data?
And It sounds like I need to keep my contacts in another source .... such as? ...  No, I don't use email much and my contacts arec the phone numbers I've captured in my phone.  After I have them backed up to ICloud, do I also need to make sure they are somewhere else to where I won't run into losing them again?
appreciate your experience and help.

  • How can i recover my photos if i restored my phone but turned off icloud backup?

how can i recover my photos if i restored my phone but turned off icloud backup?

Do you have any backup at all for your device? If you do, then you can restore from that backup and get any photos that were on it. If you have imported your photos to your computer, you can sync them back to your device via an iTunes sync. If you had Photo Stream turned on, you can recover your Photo Stream for the last 30 days or 1000 photos on that Photo Stream (whichever comes first) by signing onto the iCloud account that the Photo Stream was turned on for.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To reset your Apple ID password without knowing your security questions or have access to the email account, you will need to contact Apple Account Security in your country.  Links to contact can be found in the article below.

  • After restoring my phone as New, how do I get my contacts and data back without the restrictions password

I forgot my restrictions password so I restored my Iphone as a New phone.  Now, how do I get the contacts, apps and other data back on the Iphone? Can I restore my contacts & data without it also requiring a restrictions password again?

  • After restoring my phone and putting music back on it, the same music takes up much more memory

I  recently had to restore my phone.  I started to put the music back on it, and the files are  taking up much more memory storage than before.  It is the same music, though not as much as before, because it wont fit.

    Hi miriamh!
I have an article here that addresses syncing with iTunes. This article can help you understand the syncing process a little more, and can be found here:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
You may want to check to make sure you are syncing the exact same amount of music as before. You can also utilize one of the options for syncing that would downgrade higher bitrate format songs to a lower bitrate so that they take up less space on your phone. That option is visible here:

What do i need to do if my phone says not enouf i cloud storage what do i need to do?

    you can either:
    1. purchase additional icloud storage to keep backing up with iCloud, check out: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847
    or
    2. Turn off the iCloud backup and choose to backup with iTunes from now on. To turn off iCloud backup, go to Settings - iCloud - Storage and Backup - turn off 'iCloud backup' and use this article for backing up with iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766

  • HT201263 SIM code message after restoring but phone screen shows only Apple logo

iTunes says its restoring my iPhone 3Gs then I get the message "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone is PIN locked. Please enter the PIN code of your SIM card and connect your iPhone to iTunes again". Problem is I can't-- the phone displays only the Apple logo again! Any ideas of what to do next? Not looking good! I have tried restarting computer and getting phone turned off and in recovery mode. Still same problem.

My husband brought up a point- I'm not sure if I did a back-up on my phone after I updated to iOS 6. The backup in iTunes can be from an earlier iOS . Could this be an issue??

  • Is there any way I can retrieve photos from my iPhone after restoring the phone?

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help!! Not a very technical person so would appreciate any advice.
I plugged my phone (iPhone 4) in to my laptop and it must have started to update to new software, anyway now iTunes doesn't recognise my phone and is telling me it is in recovery mode and needs to be restored but doing this I would lose my photos I think.
The photos I need to retrieve are only a few days old but I didn't put them on my laptop. Not sure about a backup I haven't done one but does this happen automatically when syncing and how do I find out what which photos are there?
    Thanks

The update can not start by itself. It requires manual intervention.
If the phone is in recovery mode, there is nothing left on it. If you didn't have your photos backed up or synced to PhotoStream, they are gone.

  • HT1766 After restoring my phone it's not allowing me to activate it. What do I do?

I just restored my iPhone 4S, when trying to activate it specifically on my iPhone (through data or WiFi) it's telling me that it can't and when I connect it to iTunes a message pops up telling me it cannot connect to the iTunes store. HELP

I got this phone from Bell 2 christmases ago. LAtely i've been having some problems with it. It was never jailbroken or hacked and I haven't taken the sim card out. On my phone it says "Could Not Activate iPhone. Your iPhone could not be activated beacuse the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes. If this problem persisters, contact Apple Support at apple.com/support" on my computer when I connect it to iTunes it says "We could not  complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was lost. There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."

You might try restoring your iCloud backup again.  Sometimes it's successful the second time.
