After safari 7.1 update, bookmarks reverted back to Lion

Macbook Pro (late 2013 / i7) running 10.9.5.
Just updated to 10.0.5 and Safari 7.1. Now my bookmarks have all reverted back to the way they were way back in Lion. They were all in alphabetical order, under different categories, and now they are all jumbled up, even some that were deleted are back.
Any clues?

  • After Safari 5.1 update the following plugin is missing: Switchable Java Plug-in for WebKit

Hi, after Safari 5.1 update the following plugin is missing: Switchable Java Plug-in for WebKit Java Switchable Plug-in (Cocoa) — von der Datei “JavaPluginCocoa.bundle”. How can I add this plugin manually? Because some applets are not working now! I restored the OS to Safari 5.0.5,
now everything works fine. Is there any bugfix planned for Safari 5.1?

Thanks, already managed to fix it with Time Machine Back-Up, however, you need only to restore the Safari.app file (can be found in Applications in Time Machine at a date before the last software upgrade to Safari 5.1)
    So, practically,
    go to Enter Time Machine
-> browse (using the arrows at right hand bottom) to a date when everthing was still working
    -> go to Finder
-> go to the hard drive (probably named Macintosh HD)
    -> go to Applications
    -> go to Safari.app
-> highlight Safari.app by clicking on it
-> hold 'ctrl' key and click again
-> select from the drop menu that appears 'Get Info'
-> next verify that is written 'version 5.0.5'
    -> close Info drop menu
-> make sure the file Safari.app is still highlighted and click on 'Restore' under the arrows at righthand bottom of screen in Time Machine.
Now you can leave Time Machine by clicking on Cancel on lefthand bottom
Safari 5.0.5 will be added to the Applications under Safari.app (Safari 5.1 will also still be there and has the word (original) written behind it) drag this (original) marked file to the trash.
That's all, works very good and means the whole system does not have to be re-installed.
Hopefully Apple will cure this 5.1 version quickly - Make sure always to make a Time Machine Back-up before updating software!
Hope this works for you all!

can I revert back to lion after mountain lion download

You actually can.  If you call in to apple and ask for lion, they will email you an app store code that can be redeemed.

  • How to revert back to Lion from Mt. Lion

I have a 2009 IMac.  I have no problem upgrade from Lion to Mt. Lion.  The only issue I have is the IMAC is very very warm, 55 degree on CPU and between 65 to 70 on GPU diod.  I want to revert back to Lion which I paid and downloaded in 2011.  The App store would not let me redownload again said that I have a newer system. Since I downloaded the Lion, I do not have any installation disk for Lion.

You need to first erase the hard drive:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • HT4718 Hi. Has anyone sucessfully reverted back to Lion from Mountain Lion? Was there anything i need to be aware of? Thanks

The only program i really use is M-Audio Torq Connectiv for djing. Now i've updated to mountain lion this software/hardware no longer works. M-audio arent updating this particular software so i need to revert back to lion....help!!

You can't use the Mountain Lion altered TimeMachine drive with a older operating system version, your files are trapped.
You first need to get back to Mountain Lion, and restore from TimeMachine so you have access to your files.
Next you dig through your files and get to portions that are neutral file formats, like .jpg, mp3, .gif, text, doc etc., and that will work across nearly all computers and operating system versions. You basically want to get your files/data out of proprietary 10.8 program only versions and into something you can manage importing into older versions of programs on the older operating system.
Once that is completed you want to copy all this to a external drive, if you work with Windows, take the new external drive to the oldest Windows machine and right click and format exFAT. If it's a XP machine, there is a free exFAT download from Microsoft to install and reboot first. This way you have the most compatible format for your files possible. The Mac formats exFAT incorrectly and will not work with PC's. If your never going to work with PC's you can format the drive GUID /OS X Extended Journaled in Apple's Disk Utlity. Don't format MBR/MSDOS as that has a 4GB file size limit. Don't format NTFS as Mac's can't write to that.
Once you have all your files off the machine and the external drive disconnected, your now ready to revert back to a older OS X version.
If you originally had Snow Leopard on the machine, then that's the disks you want, even if the machine came with 10.5 or earlier.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Once that is installed, you Software Update fully to 10.6.8 where AppStore appears and you can reinstall 10.7, if it's not there or you upgraded directly to 10.8, then call Apple and order 10.7 and they will send it to you online.
Once your on 10.7 then install your apps and then access your basic files from the storage drive.
The 10.8 TimeMachine drive will somehow have to be erased so it can be setup to be used with 10.7 again, not sure how to go about this as I don't use it, it's terribly limiting for my needs.
If you used a bootable clone for backup of 10.8, you could have avoided all this mess because cloned drives are directly accessible to get at the files from nearly any operating system, unlike TimeMachine which is designed to trap and only move forward with OS X upgrades.

  • Will uninstalling Mavericks and reverting back to Lion restore iMovie to 9.0.0?

I’m someone who regularly uses iMovie to edit videos for YouTube, and given that my iMovie 9.0.4 recently decided to go bonkers beyond repair, I can no longer use it, for it’s no longer on my Mac.
In short, iMovie 10 is an utter disgrace, and I want iMovie 9 back. Now, in order for me to get iMovie 9 back, will uninstalling Mavericks and reverting back to Lion (a better OS in my opinion anyway) return iMovie to its former glory? My Mac didn’t come with a disc, so how would this work?
Thanks for any help can may be provided!

You should still have iMovie9 in a folder after Mavericks upgrade.  It did not delete it.  Check your applications.

I have a laptop (2010) with Lion OS and tried to install Mavericks and part way through the installation it quit and reverted back to Lion and the app store doesn't let me download Mavericks again. How can I resolve this?

    Is your data backed up?
Are you running any non-Apple system optimization tools?

How do I revert back to Lion from Maverick? Maverick does not support our server.

If you do end up needing to go the erase and re-install route because you do not have current backup to restore from, ensure that you make a clone or Time Machine copy of your current setup before doing the erase and re-install of Lion  as the erase process will delete all your data.

  • Keychain access problems after Safari 3.1 update?

I recently installed the Safari 3.1 update. Two other updates were available and I installed them at the same time. One was a security update - I don't recall the other (and, strangely, the update log is blank). After this update, I received the message that "Safari has been changed and moved, so you need to grant permission for access to the Keychain." I selected "allow all" and things seemed to progress.
The next time I started Safari, the same message. I again selected "allow all", but the program hung. I forced it to quit, tried again, same result. I ran the system maintenance programs, repaired permissions, etc. (using Cocktail) and got the same result. Keychain Access itself seems to hang and becomes unresponsive. Firefox appears to be unaffected, but I don't use it as much.
The problem seems to be with Safari 3.1 - has anyone else experienced this problem? If I uninstall Safari, download and install 3.1 over again, is there a way to save my bookmarks and cookies to reimport?

In installing the Safari Update (along with Quicktime 7.4.5, iTunes 7.6.2, and Security Update 2008-002 for Power PC), I found my Mac Mini slowed to a crawl and persistently displayed the "beach ball of death" for extended periods of time just starting up ANY program for the first time. Just restarting the computer took forever and trying to use Disk Utility did nothing.
I have talked with a friend whose son had all sorts of problems with his newer i-mac upon installation of this Safari update. I am crawling along with my machine right now, not one bit happy.
I have no answers, just a note to show I also am having problems since this update. Keychain? Never use it. I am thinking of just trying to re-install the older Safari version-3.04. Suggestions?

  • Cannot use Flash player after 10.2, have to keep reverting back to that version or earlier.

I am frustrated.  I cannot use any flash versions later than Adobe® Flash® Player Installer/Uninstaller 10.2 r159 .   If I update to version 11 or later I cannot watch any flash videos.   The audio will play but the video freezes and pauses.
I have been trying to find a solution to this issue, versions 10.2 and earlier work fine but ever since the new flash was released and I have tried to update, I run into the same problem and have to revert back to 10.2 or earlier.
I thought maybe it might have been the video card but I had it replaced and same issue and I have two other notebooks with the same exact hardware but different OS and they are able to use Adobe 11 just fine.
The issue is also present when using Linux (Ubuntu).
    My configuration.
    Operating system:
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    and
    Ubuntu
    Processor:
    Intel T9300 2.5Ghz
    Video card:
    Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT
    Memory:
    4GB
I would like if someone could help me with this issue.  I am frustrated becasue sites are 'requiring / mandating' that I update to Adobe 11 but if I do so I cannot use part of the site, for example Facebook or Youtube.
Thanks in advance for any feedback....

That seems to have solved the problem.
Question though, why does turning the hardware acceleration off make the videos play better in high definition?  I'm kinda baffled.
My video card driver is nv4_disp.dll , version 6.14.0012.6658, date 1/7/2011
I have tried many different Nvidia drivers trying to solve that issue and even had the video card replaced thinking it was the cause, but had the same problem with a new video card so thought I would try here.
Seems to work for me though now with the lastest version of flash but still I am confused why this is so.
    Thank you for your help.

Can't seem to download an app - it just reverts back to "free" or "install"

    anyone else had this issue?
    many thanks,
    Jamie

    HI Jaime,
Open System Preferences/Sound. Click the Output tab.
Make sure the Mute button is not selected at the bottom of that pane.
    Try Resetting the PRAM
If that didn't help, go to /Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.soundpref.plist file to the Trash.

  • WinXP FireFox 3.6.25 After updating FF reverts back to 3.6.25 on next open.

Tried uninstall, reboot. 3.6.25 reinstalled itself on reboot. Any ideas?

Thank you Matt_G and cor-el. I use ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and Panda Cloud Free antivirus. After another round of FireFox reverting itself I renamed c:\Program Files > Mozilla Firefox" after again uninstalling (keeping extensions and plugins as before) to"X-Mozilla Firefox" then reinstalled from the mozilla download page. This has corrected the problem. I was surprised to see that my extensions and plugins also installed along with the new 9.0.1 version(??). In the old program folder some of the subfolders are duplicated(2). I'll now delete the backed up "X-Mozilla Firefox" folder as I don't expect any more issues.

  • Mountain lion has murdered my response time.  iPhoto, Safari, iTunes are all S.L.O.W.  How can I revert back to Lion?

Since I installed Mountain Lion, all of my apps are running extremely slowly.  iPhoto is the worst, Safari is second worst, followed closely by iTunes.  Yesterday I waited a full 3 minutes for iPhoto to update one picture.  This morning almost a minute for Safari to come up.  Nothing wrong with my internet, my work PC is very fast.
I want to go back to before I installed Mountain Lion.  Is this possible???

all of my apps are running extremely slowly.
How much free space on the startup disk? Better to troubleshoot than try reverting to Lion.
Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select Storage from the menu.
Make sure there's never less than 15% available space.
Not enough free space can slow the drive down.
