After SL-DVD drive won't read any dvd-ejects it after spinning some time
Yesterday I bought the SnowLeopard DVD in order to do the update of my Mac OS.
Right after inserting the DVD in the drive (MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8221) it started to have some problems with reading the DVD.
The Drive has stopped recognizing/reading any blank DVD media (and many recorded DVDs, including movie discs). It spins for some time with a noise and then ejects it out. The same media works fine in my Toshiba laptop.
I tried several times, but the drive isn't able to read the DVD and now has the same problem with other CD-Roms and DVD.
I am very suprised (and angry) about it, especially because I hardly use the drive.
As a lot of other people are having the same problem, there seems to be a structural problem with the drive and I think that Apple has to clearify if they are planning to do something and what.
Mine MacBook seems to be doing almost the same thing. The SL disk spins a bit then is ejected. It does the same thing with my first SL disk and the one Amazon sent as a replacement. I had the same trouble with the 10.5 Install disk purchased retail. Apple sent a replacement Non-retail disk and it worked. I can burn DVDs and read DVDs I've burned.

HT2801 My DVD drive is not reading any DVD
My iMac's DVD drive is not reading any DVD. Whenever I am inserting any DVD, The DVD icon is not appearing and the DVD is ejected out after sometime. I have also tried the troubleshooting steps given in the apple support site by restting the SMC but my iMac still does not read any DVD. What do I do now? Somebody help me.
Could try purchasing a commercially available, retail dry brush CD/DVD lens cleaning system disc. These can sometimes revive a malfunctioning optical disc drive.

Drive won't read any dvd ejects it automatically
My drive Won't read any kind of DVDs, it keeps ejecting automatically after spinning for a while. it's been going on for a while now. please help!!!!!
You can try resetting the SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
and PRAM How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
If that doesn't help you can try a cleaning disc or a quick shot of canned air. It's likely though that your drive has failed, it' not all that uncommon. It that is the case you can either replace it or have it replaced but it's far cheaper just to buy a usb external drive....just not Apples because it won't work with macs with a built in drive working or not. . -

The strange thing is it reads the CD , the only problem is with the DVDs.

Q) The drive keeps ejecting CDs and DVDs after installation?
A) The screws which holds the drive chassis down are apparently too long for the drive. I suggest loosen them or screw the left drive rail in with a single screw in the front, removed the CD guide completely and screwed it all back together
The back screws should be loosened and / or left out completely if the problem persists.
--- end part ---
So I decided to open my MBP and used the guides form ww.ifixit.com and loosened the screws as described above, closed my MBP.
The problem is now gone ! -

The SuperDrive on my MBP has stopped recognizing/reading any blank DVD media (and many recorded DVDs, including movie discs). It spins for some time with a noise and then ejects it out. The same media works fine in my wife's Sony Vaio laptop.
There was a thread on this previously, but Apple has closed it:

Dunno why, but I think this has something to do with the Security Update 2009-001 Apple posted on its download platform a few days ago. Must have wrecked my SuperDrive somehow--and maybe yours, too--and I agree with Ryan when he says Apple hasn't been up to its reputation, lately. Maybe the market pressure got too much, and they started buying cheaper components...
Makes me wonder; imagine, you buy the brand new MacBook/MacBook Pro, with its encased battery and other fancy stuff, and something breaks down in the beast's belly. What do you do, then, bring it back to that some so-called Genius tells you to send it in to AppleCare.

My DVD Drive won't read Any DL Dvd
Hello, I have a problem. I am trying to burn a DVD+R DL from memorex and everytime I put it in my drive it always eject. But the drive works since I just re-installed my OS from the mac OS boot disc that came with the computer when I bought it. And I also installed programs from dvd before. Is this a driver not updated or my dvd drive is broken or what's wrong with my computer. Please help me. BTW, My computer is running on leopard, its a unibody 2,4ghz.

CD/DVD drive won't read any CDs or DVDs
Whenever I insert a DVD, CD, or CD-ROM my computer won't read the disc. The computer starts making noise like it is reading the disc but then it stops. It tries 3 times (starts and stops) and then just spits the disc out. I can't watch movies, install software, etc. How do I fix this.
Before taking it or sending it anywhere I'd first try resetting PRAM…

DVD Drive won't read blank DVD+R or DVD-R media
It just, ehm, won't. I've tried both, and I've never had any problems reading DVDs or writing CDs, though this is the first time I've tried to write to a DVD. When either disc is in the drive, the computer acts as if it's simply not there--Explorer, Nero, and everything else all act the same. Help would be greatly appreciated, because this DVD is fairly important...
I'd be more than happy to answer any questions about the problem, if you have any.
Thanks!

CD/ DVD Drive is not reading any discs! - HP Pavillion DV6747TX
Hi there, I have a problem. My CD/ DVD Drive is not reading any discs! I have no idea what's happened..it was going fine and then all of the sudden it stopped working.
The computer I have is a HP Pavillion DV6700 or DV6747TX to be exact and the CD/DVD-Rom drive is a TSSTcgrp CDDVDW TS%L632N ATA Device. It seems to be present in the Device Manager and in the Computer Menu. When I put a CD or DVD into the disc drive lights are blinking and it sounds like it's trying to load or do something, but nothing is coming up. CD Drive E still says CD Drive E instead of reading the disc that's in there and when I click on Drive E it says Windows cannot read the disc in drive E.
I have tried searching the net for answers including the suggestions on this website and have tried a few other ideas I have come across but nothing seems to be working. Any help would be greatly appreciatedThis is usually a known software conflict and happens across the board will all computer manufacturers due to a issue with multiple media burning/ripping applications being installed on your system.
You can either run this file, go online to Microsoft's site for a fix, or manually fix it by following the instructions below:
Manually delete the registry entries
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
Note Before you use this method, uninstall all CD or DVD writing or recording programs. Deleting the corrupted registry entries might cause problems with any other CD or DVD writing or recording programs that are installed on your computer. Uninstalling these programs before you start will help you avoid any problems that removing the registry entries might cause. You can reinstall these programs after the problem is resolved.
This method provides step-by-step instructions for how to use Registry Editor to delete the following corrupted Registry entries:
UpperFilters
LowerFilters
Step 1: Start Registry EditorStart Registry Editor
Start Registry Editor...type "regedit" into the run box on the start menu.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry
In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
Expand Control, and then expand Class.
Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only.
If you see the UpperFilters registry entry in the details pane of Registry Editor, go to step 6.
If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to "Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry."
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes when you receive the following message:Are you sure you want to delete this value?
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry
In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click LowerFilters.
Note You might see a LowerFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click LowerFilters only.
If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content is unable to help you any more. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes when you receive the following message:Are you sure you want to delete this value? The LowerFilters registry entry is removed.
Exit Registry Editor.
Step 4: Restart your computer
Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software. -

CD/DVD Drive is not reading any discs on Equium A100
My cd/dvd drive is not reading any discs whatsoever, blank, written or commercially written. It opens and closes and the light to show it is working is on. Device manager says the device is working properly.
Tried updating drivers, no updates available. Tried system restore back 1 day then 1 week then 1 month and still the problem cannot be rectified. When i put a cd/dvd in the drive and try to access it, it says: D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
Can anybody help me i've tried everything me and my friends can think of, or is it a better idea to just send it back to toshiba under the warranty.Hello,
Here are a few windows articles that could help.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891894/en-us
This one might do the trick, if not try this one.

Hope these help resolve the problem. If not it could be a registry setting error which can be rectified as well. But only if these 2 above do not help to resolve the problem. -

This desktop is only about 3 months old and so far has worked great!! But since last week for some reason the CD/DVD Drive will not read any disc. The tray will open but then nothing happens at all once a CD/DVD is in. Doesn't even sound like it is spinning. Any ideas?? Please help!! Thanks!!
Also it is running Windows 8 and is a Ideacentre K410. And the CD/DVD Drive it is showing I have installed is TSSTCorpDVD-RW SH-216BB Not sure if that has always been the drive or not.

Drive won't read ANY cd's or dvd's; only ejects them!!
Help! My Cd-Rom drive will not read any cd's or dvd's. However, it will allow blank cd's to stay in and be burned onto...sometimes.
When I put in a disc, it tries to read it and then spits it back out. I have tried all forms of cd's and dvd's (even discs with other programs) and the same thing happens. I can hear the disc spinning, and the laser moving, but the noise stops and the disc gets spit out. _Any suggestions????_Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I;m hoping it might just be a corrupt file or something... since it accepts blanks occasionally.
What are the settings in Sts Prefs>CDs/DVDs? I think I'd change the settings for a try.
If you haven't done any maintenance latly...
Could be many things, but it's best to start with these two steps, which may fix it also...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
Safe Boot... holding Shift key down at bootup.
It'll be a god test whether it's the drive or the OS if it can or can't boot with the C key down. -
Satellite M30X: drive won't read data DVD-R's but plays DVD-R movies and CD's
I have a Toshiba M30X with DVD/CDRW combi drive.
I have accumulated 12gb of digital photo's that I wanted to clear but did not fancy the number of CD's that entailed so I purchased a LITEON EZ-DUB external DVD rewriter and made 3 DVD-R's full of JPEG's.
However, when I put these DVD's in the Toshiba combi drive, it clicks away for a moment or two but when I click on the combi drive in My Computer, the folder is empty and it says there's 0 bytes.
CD's still work, both audio and data, DVD movies play just fine, DVD-R's made on my Pioneer DVD recorder (for TV - looks like a video/nothing to do with PC) play fine, but it will not recognise DVD-R's with data (JPEG's or MP3's) on them.
It makes no difference which software was used (both Nero 6.6 and LITEON EZDUB) and it doesn't matter whether the discs are finalised, single session, multi session or what - it won't play any of them.
These discs however work perfectly in my 7 year old desktop with a 4 year old Sony DVD/CDRW combi.
I'm stumped.
I don't particularly want to reinstall windows in case it doesn't recognise the Recovery DVD and I seem to remember Microsoft One Note having to be activated by telephone with a code that is different each time you ask it to generate one.
It's a bit of a pain as I wanted to carry my photo's with me in my laptop bag.
I don't want to be carting around an external DVD writer just to read the DVD's.
I've updated the firmware for SD-R 2512.
It had no effect other than to freeze on an all black screen during restart - I had to hold down the power switch after 15 minutes in that condition.
The laptop is 1 year and 26 days old if that counts for anything.
Anyone have any ideas? Or do I just put up with it.Hi
Well, I can only make some suggestions.
You are able to place many MP3 and Jpeg files on the DVD.
Maybe this is a reason why the explorer cannot handle the DVD.
Try to burn the DVD with JEPG picture but don't make the DVD full with these files.
You should let a free space on the medium. Maybe it helps.
But it's very strange for me and this is only a suggestion. I have never tired it and don't know if it helps.
I had a similar issue on my notebook but I have solved it by using a compatible medium. Some drives prefer different mediums for different kind of files.
