I still have not been able to find a solution to this problem.
When I wake up my MBP the system is locked up. If I try to launch an app it just bounces in the dock then does nothing. If I move the cursor over the right side of the menu I get the beach ball. I cannot pull up the force quick menu, or click on anything really, nor can I log out or shutdown cleanly. There's nothing that I can do other than power off the machine. This only seems to happen if I have two accounts are logged in. It doesn't matter which account is active before sleeping.
Any one with any thoughts?
I'll include a snippet from my syslog in case its of use. I'm out of things to try...

  • Screen won't turn on after sleep for newest macbook pro (Feb 26 2011)

    Hi!
I just bought the 13' Macbook Pro with an 2.7GHz dual-core i7 processor and 500GB of space, the $1500 model. I am having a problem with the screen and I am wondering if I should be worried about it or if anyone else has noticed it. If it continues, I will have to take it into the store and see if I can get it fixed.
My macbooks screen will not turn on after it falls asleep for a long period of time. The first night I had this computer, it was playing music and I turned the screen brightness all the way down/off and then I fell asleep. The energy settings were set so that the computer would fall asleep after 20 minutes. Pathfinder, F.lux and iTunes were the only application running at the time. When I woke up the next morning, the light on the computer's side indicating it was asleep was slowly fading in and out (as expected). I hit some keys on the keyboard and the keyboards backlighting turned on after a few seconds.
But the screen did not turn on. I tried adjusting the screen brightness on the keyboard and nothing happened. After a few minutes, I held down the power button and heard the computer turn off. I turned the computer back on, AND THE SCREEN LOOKED VERY STRANGE. I could see part of iTunes fragmented/segmented into 5 or 6 sections across the screen. There were also strange lines going across the screen. It looked kind of like a leftover image of iTunes that could be solved with a screen refresh. I turned off my computer again and turned it back on about two more times, and then the screen would simple just not turn on.
As I was packing up to go to the Apple Store, I tried one more time to turn my computer on and the screen was working fine. This was yesterday, and for the rest of the day the computer seemed to work fine. However, I don't think I let my computer fall asleep all day yesterday because I was using it so much.
Basically the same thing happened this morning when I woke up, except to a lesser degree. My computers screen was unresponsive after keyboard input, but I was able to get music to play from my speakers. I restarted it and it seems to be working fine. I didn't see the screen do that weird fragmentation thing this time.
I think something about the sleep function is interfering with my computer's screen. Or perhaps Pathfinder or F.lux have something to do with it. F.lux, by the way, is a application that turns the screen a dark yellowish at night to help your eyes. But I have friends that use this application and I myself have used it for a while and we have never had this problem. Then again, none of them have a 13 inch with an i7.
Does anyone know about this problem and have advice that would save me a trip to the Apple store?
    thanks!

Bad news and good news. The bad news is that it happened again this morning. The good news is that I finally found something interesting in the console log, at the exact second my clock is stuck when the machine is failing to wake from sleep:

From when the problem apparently starts (some point in the night while my machine is idle and supposedly asleep) until when I discover it and reboot the machine, I get dozens or hundreds of the above messages. Now somebody just needs to figure out what that means and stop it from happening...

  • 10.4.11 usb related hangs on macbook pro w/alum keyboard

Ever since upgrading to 10.4.11 & a new aluminum keyboard (+ mighty mouse) my system is VERY unreliable hanging almost daily or repeatedly... It is very troubling & surprising - these are the only two changes... Wake from sleep has had issues as well such as hanging my macbook pro 2.0 & my 30" display not waking even if the macbook has. Sometimes when rebooting I must use the macbook keyboard & then unplug & replug the external usb keyboard w/mightymouse to get it to work - my old plastic keyboard does not seem to exhibit this issue although I can't be certain...
I've zapped the pram, repaired permissions, run disk first aid & tech tool deluxe without issue...
    Thoughts appreciated! Thx!

Definitive there will never be, because each person's configuration is slightly different, and contributing factors could cause the demise of an update. The only way to eliminate uncertainty is to backup your data*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
That way, if something does go wrong, you can restore your backup.

  • After buying a new Macbook pro and opening an iTunes Match account most of my music is grayed out on my Mac and iPhone. I have not turned on iTunes match on my iPad and all my music is fine.  How do I get my music back????

After buying a new Macbook pro and opening an iTunes Match account most of my music is grayed out on my Mac and iPhone. I have not turned on iTunes match on my iPad and all my music is fine.  How do I get my music back????

The most efficacious way to get your music and other personal data onto your new Mac is to restore it from the backup you made of your old computer. Once that is done you can re-enable iTM on the new Mac and your iPhone.

  • Can't install from application install dvd and i can't update to 10.6.8 after i restore my macbook pro from mountain lion

can't install from application install dvd and i can't update to 10.6.8 after i restore my macbook pro from mountain lion. when restart and i press command it still has recovery mountain lion show on my screen.

What model is the MBP? Did it come with OS 10.6 or a later OS? Is the install DVD one that came with it or something else?
You can't run an OS older than Mac on it.
But if came with 10.6 installed & you have the system discs, you should be able to erase the drive & reinstall the original OS.

  • Everything keeps freezing/crashing after Mavericks installation on MacBook Pro

Everything keeps freezing/crashing after Mavericks installation on MacBook Pro.
It started with Photoshop, then Safari, and now the Kinect sensor.
Mavericks is the worse thing that happened to me I have a thesis project to work on!
    What can I do?
How can I remove Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion?
    Thanks

    Hey StephSassine,
First, I would run through these steps:
Your computer’s startup disk may not have enough free disk space. To make disk space available, you can move files to another disk and then delete files you no longer need on the startup disk:
    Increase disk space
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10677
If that doesn't work, you may need to repair your computer’s disk in Disk Utility:
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure you have the latest version of Mac OS X.
Software updates sometimes change a file’s permissions to improve security, so updating your software can solve some permissions problems.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Select the disk you want to check.
    Click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions.
via: Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5821
If that doesn't help resolve the issue, you can revert to a previous OS X version:
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14176
    Sincerely,
    Delgadoh

Got it. Thanks. I deleted the mouse (not an apple, but a logitech which has worked fine for me) and then re-discovered it and it's working. Appreciate the advice.

After installing Mavericks my MacBook Pro and my MacMini can't shut down, only a grey screen and finish. Must be killed by the power button. Why?

same here...  sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't!!

can anybody help me with this?

    Hi, Matheus Cassimiro.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to make FaceTime calls via your Mac or your iPhone.  Here are the best two articles that I would recommend going through for this issue.

  • HP P1006 DOES NOT PRINT after upgrading to a Macbook Pro 15 i7

HP P1006 does not work after upgrading to a Macbook Pro 15 i7 2,6 with Mac OS 10.6.3
I have used Time Machine to migrate from my previous MBP 15 C2D.
I've tried to remove the printer in system pref. and install it again.
The installer works fine but close to the end of the installation a new app is starting: HP Laserjet Firmware Update Utility, which won't start and just stays jumping at the dock, although the HP Installer succeeds to finish installing.
So when i try to print, the printer stays idle.
I have tried to download the installer from HP official website. Same story.
Also tried to do Permission Repair in Disk Utility
Please, if anyone knows a solution, help!

After the 4th try of Installing the software it finally worked!
    Thanks anyway!

  • Home wifi crashes after using iTunes on macbook pro

    Equipment:
    Wifi Network
Airplay connected to home speaker system
    Macbook Pro - OX x 10.8.2 running iTunes Version 11 (64 bit)
    iPhone 4S with 6.0.1 (10A523)
    iPad with 6.0.1
When I open iTunes on my MBP, my home wifi network crashes.  None of my wifi devices can connect to the internet when this happens.  The "fix" is to reboot my cable model and wifi router... and to get out of iTunes on the MBP.  If I open iTunes on the MBP, then reset the crashed router, I try to play via AirPlay the music from my library over my home speakers.  It will play for awhile - then it will drop -- sometimes it will "fix" itself -- sometimes I have to reset the router again to get the music to play.
I typically have better luck playing my iTunes playlist from my iPad - however this has been crashing my wifi network off and on tonight too.  I enjoy listening to my Christmas music - and this is frustrating that it crashes the network so I can't work on other stuff online while listening to my music.
Any thoughts on possible solutions are welcome!

Download the full itunes 10.5.3 installer and reinstall.
Reboot in Safe Mode (hold down shift after chime), to rebuild caches, reboot again.
If problems persist check /Applications/Utilities/Console note the time of the hang and see if any errors occur at that time.
And most importantly: Don't post your off-topic issue off in other threads.

  • 85% current capacity after 4 cycles in Macbook Pro Retina.

Is it normal that I have only 85% current capacity after just four cycles in Macbook Pro with Retina Screen? A little bit over 7140 mAh compared to 8460 mAH in design capacity?
    Should I call Apple Support?

    Hey Allan,
    Greetings!
Yes you rightly pointed out the changed format
And I have been around for a few years but mostly get active whenever I purchase a new Macbook. you know how the honeymoon period is
Unfortunately I am experiencing two difficulties myself which I haven't been able to figure out.
I have this late 2013 Macbook pro Retina, 13". Purchased it 20 days ago!
    Now the two problems are
    1. Safari sometimes doesn't load some pages and apple.com being one of them. Again as I read somewhere when opened on the Chrome and then back on safari almost at the same time, safari pulls it up.
I dont prefer other browsers as my battery discharge becomes rather quick on chrome doing the same task.
Do you hav any idea what might be wrong. I tried switching of all extensions and plug ins. Also did a few resets.
Read somewhere that it has to do something with the DNS of the router but then why this erratic behaviour and not a consistent one.
    2. My battery is also showing erratic behaviours. The max health varies between 6350 to 6673 (Didn't see the later for last few days). Also the life the system predicts vastly varies doing the same tasks. Sometimes if I am reading a page online it would show 14 hours on 100% and sometimes just 7-8.
The worst part is that the it just doesn't show it that way rather behaves the same way. That means that battery actually drains at the rate the sytme predicts.
Also even in shut down (and not sleep), the system tends to use charge at a rate of 1% per 8 hours.
All this mentioned in the paint 2 started happening when my machine got drained to 1% power remaining once and the other time was shut down as I was travelling and didn't have the charger. Is that to blame?
    Any input would be appreciated.
