After software update today, the Reading List on my Safari cannot be opened!

Hello guys,
After the software update I had earlier on in the day, I can't seem to open up the Reading List on Safari. Do you guys have the same problem too?

If you have iCloud enabled and you are syncing Safari Bookmarks that also syncs the Reading List with other devices.
Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Bookmarks then reselect it.
Relaunch Safari. Try opening the Reading List.
If you do not use iCloud. try deleting the cache associated with Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db. Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
For Lion v10.7x: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit then relaunch Safari. Try the Reading List

OK, your are looking for "Add to Reading List" button.
It is available by default but hidden.
Move the mouse pointer to the very left in the Safari address bar, a "+" sign in a circle will appear.
Click it to add an item to Reading list.

Problem logging in after software update today

My MacbookPro wouldn't restart automatically when I updated Leopard via software update this morning. In fact, it appeared to freeze immediately after I agreed to restart for the update (and after I had closed all open software), so I restarted it by hitting the power button. After the restart, some preference file was deleted because it kept putting me in the initial login loop for .Mac and kept asking for my info again and again after every restart. I then plugged in my Time Machine hard drive to restore from my backup just prior to the update attempt. That wouldn't move forward because my 92GB hard drive didn't have enough room to reinstall my 75GB profile.
I started looking at what I could remove, and decided to be doubly-sure of retaining my info so I hooked my laptop up to my iMac running Leopard and copied over everything via target disk mode and firewire. That took most of the morning, after which I removed the entire contents of my laptop and told it to restore. It didn't work. Hours later (my external is a USB drive that is more than adequate unless you are moving 75GB), I got no improvement of results - no change. Thinking myself up to the task, I reconnected via target disk mode and swiped clean my whole laptop hard drive, then opened time machine on the iMac and restored the entire final backup. Now I get no system file with blinking lights at login. My Leopard install disk is at the office, and unaccessible until tomorrow. Is there any way to fix this?

How do I make the Reading List window in Safari disappear

All of a sudden, a very irritating window or tab opened on the left side of my Safari Window asking me if I want to add the current page to my "Reading List". I don't have a reading list, I don't want a reading list, and I want this window to go away. How do I make it vanish?

1. Click "View" menu in the Safari menu bar.
    From the drop down select "Hide Reading LIst".
   or
2. Click the Reading List icon Reading glasses in the Safari bookmarks bar.
     The left most icon.

iPad first generation doesn't update beyond 4.2.1, you need at least iPad 2 for this.
If you're using iPad 2 or later, you should connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer and update from there.

After software update macbook pro works very slow and no applications will open

Updated software today, since software updated macbook is running really really slow (approx. 4 mins from pushing the power button to home screen) and no applications including itunes will work. Anyone any ideas???

Did you restart your computer after repairing permissions?
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.

Chromatic aberration and geometric distortion functions work backwards. Check chromatic and it affects geometric. Check geometric and it affects chromatic. Is anyone else having this issue?

I have the same problem, but it works when i set the windows settings for the font and icons to 100% instead of 125% (standard) which is not optimal.
Do you have an other solution?

Hi, I have made an update an older Thunderbird version (34.x) to version 35.5.0 on a MacBook pro, OS = Yosemite
Last Friday, I was able to see all my local older mail files and folders, several years of history.
Today, when opening Thunderbird, the old mail folders are all gone. I cannot see if they had been deleted from my disk or if they are still there but hidden. I can only see actual new mails.
How can I find my old mail files on the Mac? What file type or folder type do I need to search for? How can I configure my actual Thunderbird version to display the old folders? How can I recover the folders/files from deletion?

Iphone could not activate after software update

iphone could not activate after software update (iSO5). it reads, on itunes, "there is no sim card on the iphone", even though there is one in the phone. i tried taking the sim out and re-inserting it, but the same problem still repeats. Anyone to help?

Is there a sim in the iPhone?
Has the iPhone been jailbroken or modified to work with other
than the original wireless provider?
If you can get that far, what does it say when you look at
Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

Mail and notes missing after software update

After doing a routine software update all the read emails and notes in my 'Mail' Inbox have disappeared. Has anyone experienced this and if so, is there any way of retrieving them?

I was posting a different work-around until Apple came out with the official article:
Open a Finder window and "Find" like the screenshot: By filename for Mail.app
Track down and discard any old versions of Mail you find. They don't work anyway.
Then do these two steps:

How can I get Safari to keep the reading list pane open all the time?

I am really enjoying the Reading List pane in Safari. How can I get Safari to make it default that the reading pane is always open on every tab or window I open? I'm running Lion 10.7.3.

Hi Necris Rex,
If you are having trouble keeping the leading zeros even after first formatting the cells as text and then importing the csv values (perhaps you are importing the csv via File > Open into a new document) then you can restore the leading zeros without much trouble:
Insert a new column next to the column where the leading zeros have not imported as you want. Here I assume the original values are in column B and your new column is C.
Put this formula in column C: =RIGHT("00000000"&A,6) , and fill down the column.
Select column C, command-c to copy, and, with the column still selected, Edit > Paste and Match Styles.
Delete the original column that has the missing leading zeros.
Replace the 6 in the formula with the number of digits you need, so the formula knows how many zeros to "pad."
The above assumes you actually need the leading zeros back. If you just want to display things nicely in your Numbers table, then formatting as Numeral System and setting Places to 6 (or whatever) is quick and easy, no formulas required.

Help make the reading list (safari) go away --FOR GOOD (not just unchecking preferences--that is not a solution)

The READING LIST feature on safari is soo freakin annoying. Even after unchecking it in bookmark preferences, everytime I signin someplace, I still see it invisibly recording my information. The reading glasses icon isn't in my bookbar anymore, but I see a small puff go up in the left side of my screen. How can we make this stop? I even confirmed it's true, because AFTER turning it off under preferences, when I went back to turn it on just to check hours later, I was horrified that it still kept collecting information through sites I visited. This feature's invasive and irritating. Is there a way to terminate the reading list for good???

You can turn off Reading List by clicking the reading glasses icon.

I can save to the reading list but but it will not open every time and just keeps getting worse.

Quit Safari. Disable bookmark synchronization, if applicable.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar. Copy the following line into the text box that opens, then press return:
~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the Finder window open. Relaunch Safari. Your bookmark lists will be empty, but they can be recovered. Add a few items to the reading list. Test. Same problem?

10.7 was horrible unstable so I waited until 10.7.1 and tried it again. Well I have to say that it is still a defective OS. I am reverting to Snow as we speak from my carbon clone copy.. This is really the worst OSX I have ever used. It gives me random Kernel panics for no reasons, unstable airport and hundreds of small issues that are just not necessary. For instance I can't use QuickTime in Lion to trim a videoclip ( the UI goes mad and the trimslider becomes inoperable and hangs the Player window ) while in Snow it is no problem. Itunes gives me crackling sound when the equalizer is turned on, Graphical glitches in Photoshop, games crashing, Preview.app not working with some pdfs, so I need Adobes reader which I never used before.. It is definately not ripe for mass usage. Might 10.7.2 or 10.7.3 fix it, but not yet.
* and just for the records : the hardware is absoltely ok. Because in Snow it works as it should. ( So many Lion fanbois are talking : "your Ram is defect", defintely NOT. - Lion is defect! ).
