After starting up a brand new 10.8.2 iMac it linked to an older iMac, 15 hrs later I have a duplicate screen of 10.6.8; how to get rid of all that down load and free up the new iMac?
After starting up a brand new imac it down loaded off an older 10.6.8 running imac for 15 hiurs, now I have a duplicate of the older; how to dump all the older stuff and get my new imac?
OK. Log into your migrated account. Open Users & Groups preferences, click on the lock icon and authenticate.
Click on the Add [-] button and create a new account. Make it an Administrative account and name it whatever you want (but not the same as your current account) and set it up to login automatically. Log out of your current account and log into the new account. Now, select your migrated account and click on the Delete [-] button to remove it. Select the bottom option to delete immediately. DO NOT select the option to erase securely.
Now, you can choose to migrate again from your old account but be more selective of what you migrate or you can simply copy over the data you want.

I'm not sure what you mean by it making accessing files more complicated. I have both Pages 4.3 & Pages 5.1 icons in my Dock as well as Numbers 2.3 & Numbers 3.1. I continue to use the iWork '09 versions for my everyday needs. As long as the new versions are in your Applications folder & the '09 versions in the iWork '09 folder, Software Update will not have a problem updating them even if Apple should come out with a new update for the '09 versions.
Because I have moved the new versions to an external drive & renamed the apps because I want '09 to be the default apps, I do have to remember to move them back to my applications folder & restore the original names before updating. But since you like the new versions this "complication" doesn't apply to you. -

screen just froze up in middle of netflix show...has the image on screen. Don't know how to get rid of it,start over.
I was able to reboot...thank goodness..because this morning the screen was still frozen on the Netflix movie...full screen and no options to do anything. So the first option was not going to work for me.
By the time I got to work the dead battery was showing...even though it had been plugged in all night...
So then I looked at the Apple website to make sure I knew which was the Sleep key...and then did the reset and it worked. It's at 2% right now and I assume it's charging....I cleared out the Safari cache and closed it up.
Option 2, the reboot with Sleep and Home buttons worked...once I held them long enough!

I have a new iPhone 5S. While trying to learn about it, I accidentally recorded a voice memo with no content. I cannot now figure out how to get rid of it. There is a banner across the top of my phone with this memo which I don't want. I have deleted it from iTunes but cannot get it off the phone. Help!
The banner usually indicates that the memo is "Paused." If you go back into voice memos, touch the word "Done" beside the big red pause button, give it a name, then it will show in a list. Touch the memo in the list then touch the trash can icon that should appear.

If restoring to the previous state from backup isn't an option (hopefully it is), it may be easier to try to resolve what is causing problems. It's possible that some incompatible software you have installed is messing with the smooth running of your Mac.

Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem. -

Unfortunately CleanMyMac is as harmful, if not moreso, than MacCleanse. These third party cleaning apps are considered 'crapware' and can harm your system beyond repair. If you cannot uninstall them completely, as appears, it may pay to backup your data, reinstall avericks and migrate your important data back. You can try posting an etrecheck report and perhaps someone can help narrow down what you need to trash from all the areas that these programs have infected.

How to get rid of ALL the preview Icons in all the folders?
I want all the files on my computer to show the generic icon of the app, not the preview of it. I use very small icons and icon preview is a torture instead of pleasure – finding things in folders is an unbearable adventure.
I have untaged the "Show Icon Preview" in the 'View Options' tab and clicked 'Use as Defaults' button. Then restarted the Finder. It did the job for most files, but there are still many images, that still have their preview on.
I suppose that some Applications like Photoshop add custom previews to files when saving them, and those custom previews probably override the folder settings.
So - is there any way to get rid of all those CUSTOM image previews as well?The Finder will display custom thumbnails when these are present, it can't help itself. For those programs that create their own custom thumbs the only thing you can do is re-set the preference from within the application itself to not create them, and to remove them from files that already have them. Someone has probably written an Applescript or Automator Workflow to remove them recursively from a folder full of images. You can ask in those forums. Otherwise you have to do GetInfo on the file, select the wee little icon at the top of the GetInfo window and press delete or cut the icon.

Ever since AdBlock stopped working in Safari, I've searched til no end for another program, or extension, that will get rid of all pop ups, pop unders, and YouTube ads and banners for Safari. Nothing.
This astounds me because I've never known Mac gurus to not be on top of somthing like this. Are there any alternatives? I only use Safari and not Firefox or Chrome.
I've downloaded Glimmer Blocker but it doesn't stop pop-unders at all. Is there a hack to get it to? What is everyone else doing? I can't imagine people are just putting up with the bombardment of ads! Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!Simple Living wrote:

For about two days now Firefox has been unable to load up images, even in its menus, and the menu buttons do not open up their corresponding windows.
The page that comes up when opening a new tab has the first three webpages displayed, but the second three underneath are blank and the boxes are cut off.

I read online that the phone has an internal storage that keeps all data when phone is used and that this internal storage can be accessed. If you still have a backup from that point in time as part ofr your computer backup history, you could restore the backup folder, restore the phone from that backup and have the messages on the phone.
