After streaming show on mac mini, the audio of that show streams randomly with no applications open. Is there an audio cache

My husband and son streamed an episode of a show on the mac mini a few months ago. Now with no application launched, the entire audio stream plays on the computer. Where is it coming from and how do I delete it? I have reset safari, with no results. There is nothing to 'force quit'.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

I have a Mac Mini 'server.' it has 2 500gb hard drvies, the main drive has 440gb of 'other' files on it. when i restart my computer it looses another gig or 2 to the 'other file.'
how do i get rid of it? it is something that appears on the iphone and ipad as well.

The 'other' is unlikely to be a single file in a single folder, it could be thousands of files. You are therefore going to need to track the culprite down more.
There are utilities you can buy that will visually show you which folder is the biggest. However you can also do this in Terminal.app free of charge.
If you launch Terminal.app from the Utilities folder then do the following commands -
sudo du -h -d1 /
This will show which folder at the top level of your boot disk is the biggest i.e. contains the culprite. You then need to
cd bigdirectory
and do
sudo du -h -d1 .
(the full stop at the end is needed)
Which will do another check in the bigdirectory and let you see which sub folder or file is the culprite, you may have to repeat this a few times till you find what you are looking for.

Mac Mini i5 2.3 Ghz 2RAM running slowly with basic applications

My Mac Mini is running very slowly, everything I do is running slowly from google chrome to destop functions. My internet lags and I can hear the processor working chirping away all thwe time. I have tried to defrag and even turned off the wifi to see if it was internet related. Even textedit and preview drag and when they do open the window opens slowly. I am going to take it to the genius bar this week, I wonder do I really need more RAM? I am using Lion 10.7.4 Mac Mini i5 2.3 GHz. I am getting apple's router and replacing my belkin to be on a secure network. Any tips or suggestions? My Hardrive space is still open maybe 10-15% used. I am still under warranty as well Thank you.

Open Activity Monitor and check the RAM usage.

Keep in mind that 2GB of is the minimum RAM requirement for Lion and it's not really the optimal amount to run much more than itself and a web browser without pages out the the HD.
For upgrading the RAM check either the User's Guide that came with your iMac or the following Installation guide. > Mac mini: How to remove or install memory
Also for RAM upgrade kits, both OWC and Crucial are highly recommended here in the forum.

Mac mini optical audio failure

Hi, I ask for help regarding a problem that is affecting me about my Mac Mini 3,1 with Lion 10.7.1 connected to an amp with optical cable Sony HT minitoslink -> toslink.
Until a few days ago, everything has always worked perfectly. In these days, after turning on the mac mini, the audio comes easily to the amp, so I can see DVD movies and MKV in multichannel audio mode. After about 10 minutes, while the video continues, the sound stops. I try to restart the mac mini but the problem remains.
In addition, when i disconnect the optical cable from the amplifier side, the red light is not present. If I link a headphone to macmini or set-up to internal speaker analog audio works fine.
If I turn off the mac mini and power back up after fifteen minutes, the optical digital audio back, but it turns off after 10 minutes.
I tried to connect the cable to another macbook: it works regularly and the red light is turned on regularly for some time.
I did a clean install of Snow Leopard 10.6.7 on a USB drive and unfortunately there are the same audio issues.
In your opinion can be a problem with cable or there is a problem on macmini sound card?
I tried to reset the PRAM and SMC, permission repair, delete audio preferences, but nothing changes.
I also tried the Apple Hardware Test and the Apple Diagnostic Disk and the result is okay.

Hello, I solved the problem. I moved the Mac mini in a ventilated place, then I turned it on and I put the headphones into the "audio out". I restarted the computer three times, then I put the optical cable and everything works as before!
The CPU temperature was 72 ° C. I used the software smcFanControl and the temperature dropped to 52 ° C. I think the Mac Mini overheats so much. Now is okay, I have seen many movies in Dolby Digital and DTS.

Mac Mini PPC Audio Problem

My name's Michele and I'm an Italian's Student (sorry for my bad english )
I have a problem with my MAC Mini PPC.
Under Tiger 10.4.11 OR Leopard 10.5.5 (every version and every update) the audio works and not works!! (for example: I booted my mac mini, the audio works correctly! After 10 minutes, the audio don't work... O_o)
After another 30, 40 minutes... the audio works now!
Under System->Preferences->Audio the settings are right, and in the sidebar (on top) the audio's icon it is activate!
Where is the problem???

Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. OS X 10.8.5 mac mini hdmi audio output issue

I am running a 2012 Mac Mini with OS X 10.8.5 and my Mac is set for audio and video output via HDMI to my AV receiver / TV. I have recently noticed that HDMI audio output ceases to function once the computer goes to sleep. A full computer restart is required to resolve the issue which is an inconvenience to say the least.
Or is anyone aware of a simple fix?
All my software is up to date, the HDMI lead and connection works fine for video and audio works fine after a restart so it must surely be a software error. Worked fine until the latest OS X update...

After rebooting my late 2012 Mac mini model No A1347 I have a question mark inside a folder always when i try to start my Mac Mini. I understand that I need to reinstall Mac OS X, but I have tryed holding the command, option, R and P keys and nothing happens... I also think the wireless keyboard is maybe not sincronised with the computer, maybe?
I am clueless in how to proceed.
Offcourse, there is no DVD drivein the new mac minis so i can't just reinstall it from a CD.

You need to press either the Option key or the Command and R keys. If this doesn't work with the wireless keyboard, use a wired one.
If you can get it booted to a normal Mac OS X system, select that system in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

Hello Everyone,
I'm faily new to Mac world and I have a question about Mac Mini A1176 Audio to HDTV. I'm trying to make a HTPC and followed couple of guides online but I didn't get clear understanding of Digital Audio from Mac Mini to HDTV. I can configure the structure with stereo headphone to RCA but would like to know if there is a possibility to get digital audio. I have DVI to HDMI cable running from Mac Mini to HDTV but it doesn't give audio (as also stated by mac documentation). I would appreciate any response that could direct me to correct configuration of my HTPC with digital audio.

Only the newer Mac Mini's with a true HDMI output connection supports digital audio down the display cable.
If your HDTV or Stereo Receiver supports Optical (Toslink) Audio input, then you could use a Toslink cable with a 3.5mm adapter on one end connected to the Mini's headphone jack. see > NewerTech CBLAOPTMT Toslink to Mini Toslink Optical... in stock at OWC
If not, then you are limited to the current 3.5mm to RCA cable connection that you are now using.

Mac Mini for audio recording using LOGIC X

Has anyone had experience using the latest Mac mini for audio recording? I'm thinking of purchasing the 2.6GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x8GB 1TB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm model. I'll be using Logic X along with Reasons, Wave, UA plugins with a Apollo I/O I'd appreciate any feedback and or suggestions.

I'd work off of another hard drive as much as possible. Install the applications to your boot drive, but keep your data on a separate external hard drive. If you try to run OS, apps and big audio data off of that 5400, I foresee performance issues even with 16GB of RAM. Also, don't forget a second external hard drive for your backups.

Try this: Go to your menu bar, select "Garageband" and then "Restore Sound Library..."
It can take awhile to download as it's a pretty big library. You might need to also select "Update Sound Library..." after the restore is done.

you are probably seeing the extended display.. to see ur main display go to pefrences then display steeings and turn mirroring on.

Only with a whole lot of effort and instability. As the new Minis have
hardware (HD4000, USB 3.0, etc.) that is totally unsupported in old OSes.

Will Mac mini OX version 10.8.5 be compatible with new HP M51XH Color laser jet printer? I bought the Mac mini shortly after purchasing the HP Color Laserjet CP3525dn. This printer worked well when it worked, but I understand the Mac and HP had compatibility issues and was hoping the new printer would be more compatible.
