After syncing, lost almost all contacts (except 12) on iPhone and Outlook
I did a sync on Thursday and I lost almost all contacts (except 12 contacts) on both iPhone and Outlook. Only 6 of remaining 12 contacts were new entries since last syncing. So, some old contacts stays and most of got ereased. I tried to search for possible solutions with no luck. I got my iPhone in Asia to be able to have Chinese character input. I am traveling now and it looks like I dont' have a backup file of my outlook.
Is there a way to retrive the contact data from the iPhone Hard Drive?
Need help ASAP.
Not sure what happened here, but I'm not aware of an iTunes prompt to sync an iPhone that is connected. Each iPhone includes a preference setting to automatically sync with iTunes when connected - which I recommend turning off. This is selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences. iTunes includes a preference setting to not automatically sync and iPod or iPhone when connected. This is a personal choice, but I prefer manually syncing, or syncing when I want to in case I want to make any changes before my iPhone is synced.
I assume your Father does not maintain a backup of his Address Book data on his Mac, or any other important data? The Address Book application includes a simple and quick backup Address Book option which is important to use when syncing any device, but is important regardless in case a problem arises with the Address Book database.
On your Father's Mac, with the Address Book application quit, go to Home > Library > Application Support > AddressBook.
Within the Address Book folder, move the AddressBook.data file to the Desktop.
Change the name of the AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data or remove the .previous extension from the file name so it is AddressBook.data only.
Cross your fingers and launch the Address Book application. If the Address Book data is not restored, and your Father does not have a backup of his Address Book data, the data is lost.

Thank you.When you sync an iPhone w/ itunes, iTunes automatically creates a backup. Thus, I would recommend doing a Restore from the most recent back-up.
Moreover, when you connect ur iPhone to iTunes, make sure you DONT allow iTunes to back-up again. Otherwise, the back-up will overwrite the previous one

Some contacts missing on both iPhone and Outlook since installing iOS 7.1
I have an iPhone 5S which I successfully sync to Outlook 2007 using iCloud, until recently when I upgraded to iOS 7.1. Most contacts are still there on both my PC and iPhone, but as luck would have it, the ones missing are mostly the important ones for my business. I have tried turning OFF and then ON the settings in both iCloud on my PC and also on my iPhone - as I have often seen suggested for this type of problem - but without any success. I have frequently backed-up but they do not appear anywhere and, strangely, they are random from within the contacts list. Can anyone please advise a method of possibly restoring them? Thanks in advance.
Try installing Microsoft Word for iPad and using that instead. It is free to use as a reader and if you want to use with all its editing capabilities, you can pay the Office365 license.

Hello, I have had to restore my iphone 4 to its factory setting as I had missed a number of updates and my computer was not recognising the device. I have now lost my contacts icon on the iphone and cannot find it even after syncing to my computer.

It's a pre-installed app and therefore cannot be deleted so you may have inadvertently moved it onto a screen or into a folder, check the utilities folder as this is a common one for it to disappear into. Check all screens and folders and do a search in Spotlight, it will tell you if the app it still on your iPhone but unfortunately not where it is. If you find it on one or your screens or in a folder, press the icon until it wiggles and then drag it back to where you want it. Alternatively you can reset your home screen in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. -
I lost almost all of my opurchased apps after restore
I've been doing it for many times (well, perhaps twice on the iphone 4s but previousluy on my 3gs it was really many times) - the restore. Now I HAD to do a restore because the so called 'others' raised to 2GB (my iphone is 16GB)!!!! After the restore I lost almost all of my purchased apps. Who will give them back to me? WHY IS IT SO F... easy to loose apps?

Once I specially enetered a wrong password and then I got 'wrong password' message but for the rest I got nothing but repetetive 'enter password' window. Almost all contacts disappeared on iPad
I used Contact Cleaner to remove duplicates in my Address Book, a problem created long ago with sync problems with Outlook.
A subsequent sync with my iPhone went OK, but the sync with my iPad deleted most contacts, leaving only one each for a few of the letters of the alphabet.
I am not using iCloud because I was burned by the password fiasco way back when with the introduction of iOS 6. I have been successfully syncing calendars, contacts, podcasts, and music up to about three weeks ago.
For some reason I had Sync Contacts in iTunes unchecked for my iPad, but even checking Sync Contacts for all contacts does not restore contacts from my Address Book.
Oops! I also had Sync Contacts unchecked in iTunes for my iPhone. When I checked it and set All Contacts, on syncing I lost almost every contact on my iPhone.
I also tried Replace information in the Advanced section. On the next sync, no information was replaced.
The only place that I could switch on Contacts was from a mail account. Nowhere could I find a place to switch on Apple's Address Book.
Is this one of the marvelous fixes to iOS 7.0.4?It looks like Apple jumped the gun on not syncing contacts in iOS 7.0.4.

Since I am still running OS X 10.7, iOS 7 should still sync my contacts through Wi-Fi or USB cable.
This dictum does ignore people who have a Mac and an iPhone but no home internet access. I know of such people. Suppose I receive a letter and put the contact info in my Mac. I then write a paper response and use a program like Easy Envelopes to print the envelope (a lot neater than my handwriting). Easy Envelopes takes the info from my Address Book. Now I go out with my iPhone a few days later but without my Mac and decide to follow up the letter with a phone call. Unless I had hand-copied the phone number, it won't be on my cell phone. This is even more problematic if I have an iMac rather than a laptop.
As for the password fiasco, if I remember correctly, it was when iOS 6 was introduced and iCloud was offered. If a person forgot their password, they couldn't get a new password for the ID they used. They had to use another ID. I think it finally settled out somehow. I am not sure of my password for iCloud, it is already in my iPhone/iPad settings and I successfully turned on iCloud syncing of my Address Book and the Contacts. I hope it is now that linked to my Apple ID; that password I know.
I also hope that none of my information raises a red flag with the NSA or that iCloud doesn't go down when I need it the most. Or even my local DSL service! Which has happened! -

Raghvendra PandeyThere are two ways to have photos on the iPhone. First is the camera roll, these are the pictures you have taken with the iPhone camera. The second are pictures that are synced to the iPhone through iTunes from the computer you sync with.
The pictures in the camera roll are designed to by imported to the computer just like photos taken with any digital camera. They are not designed to be only stored on the iPhone.
If you imported the pictures to the computer or performed a backup of the iPhone prior to the attempt to upgrade software on the phone,all you need to do is restore from a backup. If you did not create a backup, you can look for the last backup you made if the pictures would have been included in that backup. Unfortunately, in that last case, you will also lose everything you have done since that backup.
If you have been backing up or syncing with iCloud, the pictures should be there. If you have not done any of the above, the pictures are lost. -
I have a feeling this has been up here a lot. I updated ios 6 to my phone (4S) with no problems but I also back my phone up. I decided to help the wife out and update hers and something went wrong data lost. All contacts, photos, etc without backup, help.
if you have no back up in icloud or itunes the best you can do is sync with your computer and get back what you can from there

I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes wants to deletes all data off of my iphone so i click cancel

This restores the library and device association files. If for some reason you chose to only back up the media and not the entire iTunes folder, then the only option is to let iTunes wipe the drive and re-sync.

Thanks for any assistance!Firefox has no built-in option to do this, it will be due to an extension. Check your list of extensions to see which one has added this feature. Extensions that have this feature include Tab Kit, Tree Style Tab and Unified Sidebar, though there are probably others.

Last time I synced with iTunes all apps (except the originals) and all the work I'd put in them got erased. Any way to stop that?
Your apps didn't get erased. They're still there in your iTunes Library, you just didn't tell iTunes to sync all Apps when you synced. You have to either choose the specific apps you want to sync or say sync all apps.

I synced my daughters ipod touch with my apple account and now all of her contacts are on my iphone and my contacts are gone. What happened???
Try settings -- messages -- send & recieve and see if your email and phone number are in there and if there is only a check mark next to your email address. If so just check off your phone number and try that.

Make sure Sync Apps is checked on the Apps tab of your iTunes sync settings and that all the apps are checked that you want on your phone. Also be sure that your computer is authorized for all Apple IDs used to purchase your apps (and other media) in Store>Authorize this Computer.
