After transition to iCloud, all local contacts lost

Following a 'Bumpy" transition from MobileMe to iCloud (a lot of duplication removal and clean-up), I notice the the Address Book (unbeknownst to me) was showing iCloud as the Default Account.  When I select "On My Mac"/"All on My Mac", it appears as totally empty.  The 729 contacts in the iCloud Address Book stays in 'sync with the 729 contacts on my iPhone, (I added and deleted, just to make sure).  iCloud preferences seems to be setup correctly (iCal is working fine).  In Address Book Preferences, the Primary (top acct) is showing iCloud with and enabled check-box; the sendonday acct is showing On My Mac, but it has no Enable check-box - just two for syncronizing with Yahoo and Google (both un-checked).  I even disabled the iCloud acct and tried to import a recent .abbu fille into the 'On My Mac Address Book' with no affect.  Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hi. My husband and I have always shared the same iTunes account.  Since installing iCloud, all our contacts and calenders have merged on our iPhone 4, which we do not want.  How do I rectify this? Does my husband need to set up his own apple ID?  If so, where do I need to change his email address info, so that his calender and contacts remain his?  Thank you

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours.  If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for).  You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content.

  • ICloud: all my contacts gone

    Hi,
When iCloud got launched, I of course updated Lion and turned on iCloud. And now my Contacts are all gone.
OS X 10.7.2 with iCloud - no contacts
iOS 5.0 with iCloud - contacts
    iCloud.com site - contacts
iCloud storage - 80% space available
All use the same Apple ID.
Here is the investigation I've done so far ...
When I create a new contact on my iPad, it does not make it over to iCloud.com
Appointments made on my iPad make it over to my Mac, appointments made on my Mac make it over to my iPad
When I try to switch on 'Contacts' on my OS X iCloud prefpane, after a while it just unticks the box. All other boxes remain ticked.
When I try to hard-enter a new iCloud account into Address Book, it takes my information and after a while
After inspection of the system.log it seems there are a lot of permission issues and in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook I see a lot of Migration*.tbz files which coincide with me ticking the box in the iCloud panel.
Any suggestions how I can fix this?
    thanks,
    Rob

I ended up deleting the entire ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder and after this it downloaded the contacts from iCloud and has worked fine since.

  • Why I can't see in ICLOUD all the contacts I entered manually in my iphone

I noticed that when I signed into ICLOUD I don't see all the contacts I have entered manually  in my Iphone and I don't understand why when my Iphone is backup every day.

There is a difference between a backup to iCloud and having your phone set to sync Contacts (and other things) to iCloud. A backup to iCloud stores data on iCloud that you cannot access for any purpose other than doing a full restore to your device (e.g. in the event of a problem or when switching to a new phone). Contact sync to iCloud on the other hand is controlled by Settings > iCloud > Contacts. If you have that turned on and the contacts from your phone are not syncing to iCloud, the following may help: Get help using iCloud Contacts - Apple Support

  • After transition to iCloud from MobileMe, does MM still work on Snow Leopard Macs?

I have an older MacBook Pro that can't be ugraded to Lion. If I transition to iCloud from my MobileMe account, will MobileMe still sync on my Snow Leopard MacBook Pro at the same time my Lion MacPro and iOS5 iPhone sync to iCloud?

    No.
You cannot have both, only one - MM or iCloud. If you go the iCloud route, Snow is out .

  • ICloud Deleted  Local Contacts From Address Book

Okay, so I tried setting up an iCloud account so a family member could receive texts and messages via iChat. That was the original goal. I successfully set up an account, but iChat does not allow me to login via the iCloud account that I had set up. After sever attempts I decided to put that on the back burner until I had a little more time to look into it. In doing so I seem to have caused some other collateral damage which I didn't anticipate (see below).
Unfortunately, as I logged out of iCloud on the iMac, it wiped/deleted every last contact that was in the address book. My question is: How can I get them back?
I suspect that there is a "previous" or "prior" image of the data what was there. I'm guessing that Apple put some type of safeguard in place for just such an occurrance, though I could be wrong.
The Machine is a 2011 27" iMac running 10.7.5. The last backup of the address book that I can get to is from 2011. Actually it's the Address Book Folder in users>Library>Applications Support.   I made a copy of the entire system drive AFTER everything was migrated over from the old system that was replaced, and have it on an external drive.
    Some notes:
    - Time Machine was not active or on
    - iCloud was never activated until just recently
    - the person does not own an iDevice with any of the contacts
    - iCloud does not seem to show any contacts to even bring back onto the iMac
It seems like a really silly thing to have any local data removed AT ALL upon signing out of iCloud. What's on the machine should remain on the machine unless the enduser literally goes out of there way to purposly delete the information stored there. There should be no dialog box what so ever even indicating that data will be removed, and even if the data was removed there should be an easy way to undo the action in case the enuser misinterpreted the action. Before any of the data is removed from the local the information (or at least a copy of it) should have been automatically stored to the cloudspace PRIOR. Why on earth would Apple set it up in such a way where the default is to delete any local data at all?

No. Absolutely not. We'll just have to agree to disagree. iCloud should be able to be turned on or off on any given device associated with said account. Local stores should be synchronized and that synchronization should happen continuously if connected. When not connected, local stores should maintain their state. What would be the purpose of even bothering to "sync". Or are you saying that in effect everything is copied to a central location (ie the cloud) and any devices wanting access to that data need to be "signed in", and in effect becoming nul terminals with no local store? Why should the default assume users would want to delete the synchronized data upon sign out?  iCloud should be a "use as needed" tool and not an "either/or" tool. In this case *it* should have backed the data up to begin with. That is the purpose after all. I (wrongfully) assumed in haste that the information was backed up or copied elsewhere and that even if I chose to delete it from the local device, I would still have access to it because it was stored "somewhere". And if the data wasn't synced/backed up to "the cloud" upon sign-in, then a friendly reminder alerting the user that now data had yet been saved would certainly go a long way. But this derails the entire thread. All I want to know is whether or not there is a way to retrieve the data that was erased from the iMac?

  • Smtp settings for mail send needed after transition mobileme - iCloud

    Hi,
I have transitioned our mail accountfrom mobilme to iCloud in July. Sending and receiving mail worked flawlessly until yesterday. As of today I cannot send mail. It indicates that my account is "offline". Can someone please remind me how to set our email account settings for sending?
    Thanks!

    pvonk wrote:
You have probably been using the same email "account" in the mail app as was used to connect to MobileMe (I'm surprised you've lasted as long as you did).  In Settings>Mail, Contacts..., go to the Account section and delete the account you've been using.  Then create a new icloud account using the same account ID.  That will properly connect to icloud and get all your emails back.
Not on Snow Leopard it won't, the account must be entered manually (using the settings provided). Your advice would be true if this were Lion or Mountain Lion but Snow Leopard will attempt to set it up as if it were Mobile Me.

  • My husband and i have i phones after the recent update all our contacts have come together when in the past they were seperate

My husband and i have i phones but after the last update our contacts have merged when previously they were seperate, can you help?

You two can share an Apple ID for iTunes and App Store, but you need to set up different iCloud IDs (well only one person needs a different iCloud ID).
On one of the phones go to
    Settings > iCloud
scroll down and delete that account.
Now go back to those settings and set up a new ID.
The advantage is that you can still purchase music and apps with the original Apple ID account so both phones can share that information. Only the iCloud information will be separate. However, this also means that calendars, notes, and photos in photostream will not be shared because those are specific to one iCloud account.
    More info here.
    EDIT:
In the process of setting up the new Apple ID, select the option to create a free @me account. That way, you can also sync your notes.

  • HT2500 I use Mail and Address book- since iCloud all my contacts are duplicated and my group distribution lists keep deleting addresses - help

Since iCloud was installed all my addresses are duplitcated and when I use a group only say 4 out of 10 addresses appear in my emails when I send out to a group... any ideas please?

I've now done Literally every possible thing listed in the help
or that I was told to do in this thread, and nothing has worked.
Not sure what you mean. Have you tried uninstalling all the plug-ins as well? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting this information easier, you may open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Upgraded iPhn4 to IOS5 after backing up but all apps were lost in restore to an earlier backup

What is a user to do? Sought to upgrade was advised that some purchased apps were not on iTunes and should be added to library. Did so. Multiple attempts to upgrade iTunes with "invalid signature" errors but finally succeeded. Then upgrade of iPhone4 but the restore was defective wiping out APPS, "recent calls," photo albums and messages and leaving me back at a 8/2011 backup.  What is a user to do?

Open the App Store, choose "Updates" from the bottom, then "Purchased".  You can re-download your purchased apps from there.
Of course, before that, you had to go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and sign in with your Apple ID.

  • Locale Settings lost on mobile client 7.8.2.14 after creation of BIP report

    Hi All,
we went live with BI Publisher reports (Siebel 7.8.2.14) at the beginning of June.
Now some of our users are having trouble with their mobile web client.
For example our colleagues in Poland have their Windows XP regional settings set to "Polish". It will make Siebel use date format for all date fields (e.g. activity start date) display as YYYY-MM-DD - this works just fine until user is creating a BIP report. After successfull report creation, all locale settings in the mobile client are lost. Instead of YYYY-MM-DD, the dates are displayed in DD.MM.YYYY and creation of new records produces and error. Also, currency and number formats are mixed up.
I assume it's a bug - anyone hit this before?
Edited by: Penky on Jun 17, 2011 11:38 AM

Yes, we finally decided to do so!
The main reason was that we had a lot of new report change requests and did not want to do the work twice (now in Actuate and then again in BIP). Also we plan our 8.x upgrade for second half of 2011 so this was already some kind of preparation, so we can completely focus on the upgrade afterwards and don't need to hassle around with the reports as well.
issues we're still facing include "user's are not able to run reports after they change their position" or "List reports can only be run for few records, otherwise the search spec hit's an IO field's length limitation" or "report popup can not be suppressed although there's no useful information in it" (not to forget the one described in this thread) and some others.
Well ... after 1 1/2 years since I downloaded the first integration QF the BIP journey still does not end - it's like it just started :)

  • I lost all my contacts in iphone 4s

I lost all my contacts in iphone 4s, how do i get them back ?

If you didn't back up your phone before upgrading and you use iCloud, all your Contacts should be in iCloud. You should be able to sign in to your iCloud account and your Contacts from iCloud should populate to your iPhone.

  • IPhone5 lost all the contacts

Please does anyone know why it could have happened?
At the same time my iPad 3 stopped syncing. I cant put any videos on anymore.

It will ONLY be where you selected it to sync.
This is something that you should haev done from the very beginning when you originally set up the iphone.
I sync mine to Address Book.
It sounds like you have failed to sync your contacts.
