After trying to set up access control, my Airport Utility is no longer able to find my Base Station.  My PC still sees my wireless network but I can't connect to it.

A friend told me he was able to access my network from a different device with no password so I decided to set up an access control.  Following the prompts, I entered my IP address, and then my Airport stopped working.  I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but got the same thing.  The screen I get is that "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices", and askes me if I want to rescan.  When I rescan I get the same message.  My Airport light is green and my PC recognizes the network, my software just can't connect to it.  A friend suggested I entered the wrong IP address (which I found on my computer under "connections", but even after I tried a different one which is supposed to be from the network, I still get the same error message.  What am I doing wrong?

This could be bullsh!t on your friend's part perhaps? Do you ever recall seeing a blue-light on the base station?
Following the prompts, I entered my IP address, and then my Airport stopped working.
The acces control list is where you put in your Mac Address, this is not the same thing as an IP.

  • Setting Access Control in Airport Utility

    Hello everyone,
I'm hoping that someone can confirm that setting access control to Local in the Airport Utility, and specifying computer addresses, is an optional layer of security over and above a network and base station password. In other words, if I leave access control set to Not Enabled, will I still have password protection for my wireless network?
    Regards,
    Gregory

Thanks for reply, but I'm afraid I don't understand, and I apologize for my inexperience. What do you mean when you say that I should be more concerned that both access control and other security +should not+ be done? And by "... check on its either one or the other," did you mean check whether it's one or the other?
In any case, page 58 of the Designing Apple Networks manual doesn't say anything about local access control that the one-line description under the Access Control tab in the Airport Utility doesn't already say, namely, that access can be restricted to particular computers. Well, that's clearly a good thing as long as you don't have visitors or collaborators frequently dropping by who need access to your network. I think it's reasonable to assume that network and base station password protection operate independently of access control based on Apple IDs.

After time capsule 7.6 Firmware upgrade I can't set up Access Control / Timed Access using mac adresses.
I have a Time Capsule and an Airport express and when I change access control parameters on whatever one of those
two devices through Airport Utility its duplicating the same setup on the other device !
    What a mess !
I had to choose "Not Enabled" in the Access Control stup window.
Has anyone experienced same problem ?
    Jean.

    I did downgraded firmware to 7.5.2 ...
and the Acess Control Setting from Airport Utility is back to normal behaviour.

  • Where's iPhone's ID for MAC Access Control on Airport Express?

I'm running Apple Express (NOT Extreme) base station v5.5.1, & require Access Control on 802.11g network. I have "Apple IDs" for all our computers using network, but I can't figure how to get ID #s for iPhone. As workaround, I temporarily opened my network to standard 128-WEP encrypt w/ password, disabling Access Control. But some hash-chart wizard in my apt complex keeps beating WEP & bogging down network, no matter how many times I change passwords. Note: I can't set up WPA w/o Airport Extreme, so that's not an option.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Yeah, this kinda had me going as well...at first I couldn't figure out where in the world was the MAC address for this iPhone! I check the iPhone, the box, online everything everywhere! I just happened to be in the Settings and went to About this iPhone...and Blam! there it was!!! Be sure and use the ID for WiFi. MAC Access Control is a great safeguard, though many say people can "spoof" MAC IDs. I haven't seen it and am not sure how it would be done.

  • I currently have a WPN824 v3 Netgear router and I'm trying to set up my Apple TV. I'm able to connect it to my wireless network but my airplay feature is currently not working.

I currently have a WPN824 v3 Netgear router and I’m trying to set up my Apple TV. I am able to connect it to my wireless network but my airplay feature is currently not working. The icon does not appear on any of my devices. My ipad and ipones all are currently up to date and are all joined to the same network. Is it the way that my router is configured. Please help let me know what I need to change in my router settings or does my router not work with Airplay. Or is there a simple fix.

you don't mention which products you use
only ipad2 and up support mirror
and only iphone4s and up support mirror
other devices only use airplay for apps which support tvout options

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears then let go.

  • Trying to set-up Cannon iP4500 on Airport Express. Not seeing it on scan.

Just got a used Airport Express and plugged my Cannon iP4500 into the USB connection and plugged the Airport Express into the power strip. When I opened up the Airport Utility, the initial scan didn't find the Airport Express. I'm using a 3rd party wireless internet router. I've never tried using Airport Express before so I'm completely lost.

In order for the AirPort Utility to have a chance to "find" the AIrPort Express Base Station (AX), you need to either connect to it directly using an Ethernet cable or connect to its wireless network ... which, by default, will have a Network Name of Apple Network NNNNNN, where the Ns are the last six digits of the AX's AirPort ID.

  • "Airport was unable to find your base station after restarting"

Trying to connect AX to my HP printer for wireless printing. Walk through the process of joining my wireless network, everything appears to work (finds my base station, finds my wireless network). When I finish the final step, macbook appears to hang but then comes back with this error message "Airport was unable to find your base station after restarting"..."problem rejoining the wireless network or finding the base station". I then go into Airport Utility again and base station is gone. I have to reset AX to factory setting (removing any profiles) before Utility recognizes AX again. I repeat process...same results, ugh. Any help would be appreciated.

I updated to 7.3.1, and just wasted 3 hours getting my Airport Express working again. What a nightmare.
Flashing amber light after update to 7.3.1 and not found by Airport Utility. Hard reset allows Airport Utility to find it, but after configuration never found again and get flashing amber light, until hard reset again...
Here are the steps that worked for me to get back to 7.3. and functional Airport Express.
    1) I had ethernet connected, I was unclear whether ethernet doing anything but desperate. Performing reset from MacBook with airport on.
    2) Hard reset on Airport Express so that Airport Utility can find it. (i.e. press reset button for 5-10 seconds until light flashes amber 4 times. The factory reset did not seem to work.)
    3) Cross fingers that Airport Express shows up in Airport Utility. (Did most times for me, but not always.)
    4) Hold down Option key and select Check for Updates from Airport Utility application menu. This allows selecting old updates.
    5) Download 7.3.
    6) Click Manual Setup (for the Airport Express)
    7) Select Upload Firmware from the Base Station menu
    8) Select 7.3, apply, cross fingers
After applying 7.3 may need to do one more hard reset, I am not sure if it showed up again on its own. However, once available in Airport Utility and once again with the 7.3 firmware, was able to configure and get working again as normal.

  • Can connect to wireless network but no internet access

I have a PC that runs on Windows Vista and a wireless network using Airport Extreme. My PC can connect to the wireless network but I cannot access the internet. Windows Network Diagnostics states that 'A problem with your network router or broadband modem might be preventing an internet connection'. There should be no problem with my modem as I can access internet using my powerbook. When I run airport utility on my PC, there is an error message that states that 'An error occurred while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again', 'error -6753'.

I am glad you brought this up. I am having the same difficulty. I run an iMac OS X 10.5.6 with an intel processor and a parallel system to get me on the Windows side. When I try to access the internet using my Airport extreme I cannot access any sites and the internet explorer page pops up with "The page cannot be displayed and sends me to try the diagnose connection problems on the toolbar method. However I can see my base station and all looks fine with the information there. I can also access the internet from my mac side of the computer. It would be nice to use the Windows side to gain access to the net because I have programs for the windows side that need updating. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

  • Error -6753 when trying to find my base station

I'm working off a Dell computer with a wireless card in it, and it can't find my Airport Extreme Base Station. I've tried going to "File" and selecting Configure Other..., but when I put in the IP address and the password for the base station it gives me the Error -6753.
What is this error and how do I get my PC to recognize my wireless base station? It's been configured on my mac and to all appearances it's working perfectly, but I just can't get the PC to connect to it wirelessly. HELP!

    Some additional information:
The desktop currently "running" the airport express is a Mac Intel Mini and it's hard-wired into the base station so it's not having any issues connecting (wirelessly at least).
The Dell is approximately 4-5 years old, running Windows XP SP2 and the Airport Utility loaded straight from the disk that came with the Airport Extreme. The Dell is using a 2Wire wireless card that previously had no problems on two Linksys and 2Wire Homeportal wireless systems that were set up in my house and where I worked. The Mac Mini also worked on the 2Wire home system previously.
I can get the mac mini to find the base station and the wireless network created by it (using WPA/WPA2) and connects perfectly fine. Neither the Dell's network connections nor the airport utility on the Dell are finding the base station's network, and no amount of rescanning finds it. The base station is working fine to all appearances.
I'm going to try downloading the Utility from the Apple website today at school but that's not going to help me until I get home at 5pm. Help!

  • HT3819 I can use remote on my iPhone to connect with my iTunes library, but i can't connect to another computer using home sharing to access apple tv.  I have used the same access ID and password that is used for the apple tv.

I can use the Remote app on my iphone to connect with my itunes library on my computer, but I can't connect to the Apple TV using home sharing with another computer in the house.  I am using the same ID and password that the apple tv uses to connect with the other computer.  Also how do I check what version of IOS that my iphone is using?

    Version:
iOS Settings>General About (or it'll say when you hook it up to iTunes)
Are all the devices on the same physical network?  I think you're saying all are set up using the same home sharing credentials.
If you've not done so restart all devices and your router.
If you can get any of the devices connected by ethernet to reduce the wifi burden that may help but to be honest I would not expect simply beoing on wifi to prevent devices/computers appearing in the list.
Does the other computer have any firewall or port blocking software running?

I have just acquired an iMac desktop (about 4 years old). I want to connect to my Apple airport wireless network, but cannot remember the password. How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it. I already use a MacBook Pro and an iPad on the network and don't want to jeopardize what already works well. I am not all that computer literate.

How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it.
Read the user manual that came w/your Airport router or you can cross-post in one of the  AirPort Forums for instructions.

Again without stating the trouble shooting steps you have taken, its hard to direct you with any information.
Try a different port on the computer.
Does the iphone beep when u plug it up. ?
Plug iphone into computer and give it 3 to 4 minutes to see if it connects and is running slow.,
Delete the apple mobile device from your computer.
    Upgrade itunes to newest version.
Is you USB cord defective ?
Any USB 3.0 on your system ? .
Delete or Disable  any antivirus program on your computer ?
I will tell u the problem is your computer not the phone.
We could do this for hours.
