After turning on iTunes Match, songs in playlist are in the wrong order across all devices.

So in iTunes, my client had several playslists, all with songs in a specific manual order.  None of them are smart playlists.
After iTunes Match was activated, the song order seems to have changed in every playlist and on one iPhone where the same iTunes Match account was also enabled on.
We know they are in a different order as an iPod touch that does NOT have iTunes Match enabled yet still has the original order.
Just wondering what the best way to fix this would be.  Should we manually drag the songs to the right order or is there a simpler way to revert to how they were ? Also would manually moving the update the order across all iTunes Match devices ?

This worked although it was very clumsy (we had almost 3,000 files that had to be deleted and redownloaded. I could not figure out a way to sort all of the 'exclamation points' together so it took an hour or so to scan through the entire library list and delete each file individually and/or in small groups.) The download was very straight forward. In my experience (with iTunes match turned on,) we did NOT loose our playcounts.
Going through all those files I noticed several common themes that may have triggered the problem: 1) multiple artists, 2) special characters in the song title, artist and/or album name - particularly umlauts (we have quite a few german songs in our library.) 3) very long title, artist and/or album names.
I hope that someone from Apple is aware of these issues and working on them....

  • I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order.  How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ...  How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

  • How do I get my purchased music back after turning off iTunes Match without having to go back through iTunes and individually download each album?

I absolutely hate iTunes Match. It is difficult to work with when it comes to music not purchased through iTunes. So I want to turn it off. How do I do and still have my purchased music through iTunes without having to go through each album/song that I've ever purchased and redownload? That would take FOREVER.

If iTunes Match is turned off, go to preferences > store>Tick box show iCloud purchases. Once done all purchased music will appear. Go to song list view, select all tracks, ctrl+click and select download from pop up.
Alternatively, go into iTunes Store > Quicklinks purchased and select not on this computer. Select download all.

  • Help!!   All my songs are in the wrong order!

I don't know why this happens, but I just added album art to an album that was in iTunes (ripped from 2 discs using an outside program), and then of course iTunes "couldn't find the original file". The location and filenames of the MP3s did not change, really only the modified date and the addition of the album art. But okay fine, I removed the 2 discs from the library then imported them again. Now here's the problem: the tracks are no longer ordered from 1-15 as they were. Now they're completely random, and I can't force iTunes to put them in the proper order!
Please help me get this fixed, it's driving me crazy. Makes me want to pull my hair out. I just can't understand why this happens and why I can't make iTunes put the songs in the track order. Shouldn't this be the secondary sort criteria when you sort by album?
This has been happening to me ever since iTunes 7 was introduced, and my previous posts asking for help went unanswered. I can't figure out any other way to even try to get help with this, so please someone at least snowball some ideas, cuz I'm clean out by now.
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the reply. I have actually done all these things. I am very specific with my tags, probably to the point of being anal about it. I'm in the habit of selecting all the songs of an album and setting the fields that should all match at the same time. This usually includes the album name, genre, album art, gapless (if applicable), and the number of tracks (the track "of" field), though not always the artist. Many of my albums are compilations, and these seem to have the problem more frequently.
However, I do have an example of a single-artist album that this happened to, Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails. Here's a screenshot showing how this appears in my Library:
    [IMG]http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1hjNWXPl3ShqWiCOkMs1ysC1pYUJ0_thumb.jpg[/IM G]
And here is a "get info" view of all the tracks on this album:
    [IMG]http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1n9pGvMmVmD567V8qLhKw2UYwg77J51_thumb.jpg[/ IMG]
The album that prompted the post this morning got me so frustrated that I unloaded my own MP3s from iTunes and re-ripped the discs with iTunes itself. I don't like doing this, but it seems to be the only way to make the tracks appear in order.
I'll supply any other information you may want in relation to this problem, I'm very motivated to get this fixed.
    Thanks!

They won't show up on the devices unless you sync them.

  • Turn off and turn on iTunes Match will reset the library?

All the music stored in my iPhone is downloaded from my iTunes Match account.
Today, I turned off  iTunes Match in the "Settings"->"Music" my mistake and I turned on it immediately after that.
I found that my whole library was wiped off and all of the music had been re-downloading...
Is it possible to keep the files after turning on iTunes Match since all of them were downloaded from iCloud. It's a really waste of time and bandwidth to re-download the whole library.
    thank you.

User troubleshooting is restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. If you perform these steps and it still doesn't work, then make an appointment at the Apple Genius bar and have the hardware checked.

  • How do I turn off iTunes Match on my Mac?

ITunes Match has become more of a hassle then it's worth, I have already dissabled it on my iDevices, but how do I shut it off on my Mac?

    Hi Scott Waters,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you want to turn off iTunes Match on your Apple computer. You can turn if off under Store in the Menu Bar. The following article has information for how to turn iTunes Match on, the option to turn it off will be in the same Store drop down menu.
iTunes: How to add a computer or iOS device to iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4913
Furthermore, after turning off iTunes Match on your computer, I suggest going into your Account Information in iTunes and turning off the Auto-Renew subscription for iTunes Match if you have decided that you no longer want it. That information and instructions can be found in this article.
iTunes Store: Subscribing to iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4914
To turn off Auto-Renew for iTunes Match
iTunes Match will automatically renew your subscription at the end of your 1 year subscription by default.
To turn off Auto-Renew for iTunes Match from a computer
Open the latest version of iTunes.
    Choose Store > Sign In.
Enter your Apple ID and password and click Sign In.
Choose Store > View My Account. You may be asked to re-enter your Apple ID password.
In the "iTunes in the Cloud" section, click Turn Off Auto-Renew to the right of iTunes Match.
    Thanks for reaching out,

  • I have downloaded all my music from the cloud to my new iPhone and created playlists so I can listen to it when not it wifi like when on a plane. If I turn on iTunes Match will I still have this music still downloaded?

I have downloaded all my music from the cloud to my new iPhone and created playlists so I can listen to it when not it wifi like when on a plane. If I turn on iTunes Match will I still have this music still downloaded? The online information suggests all my music will be replaced. Will I have to download it again??

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account."  The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases.  It is also used with iCloud.  iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod.  If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked).  If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists.  Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

  • I turned off itunes match and I want my playlists back on my phone that is synched already and will not play

I subscribed to itunes match.  ONLY 4000 songs are available out of 18000.  I am not happy and turned off itunes match.  Now i can access my playlists or songs that were originally synched to my phone before itunes match.  I just want my phone to be back to normal.

    Now i can not* access

  • Only half of some iTunes Matched songs on my iPhone will play, then audio skips to next song in playlist!

Several (maybe 5%) of iTunes Matched songs on my iPhone do this... at EXACTLY 1/2 way through the song.
EXAMPLE: At 2:25 of a 4:50 long song (Shania Twain - From This Moment) the next song in playlist (Taylor Swift - Tim McGraw) starts as the audio skips to beginning of next song in playlist.  Oddly, Shania's attractive album artwork and title stays up while Taylor's tune plays (?)
When the timeline for the first Shania song hits the end, the artwork slides to Taylor Swift's CD Cover art and the timer slider adjusts to near the end of that song.
When I play same songs on the same playlist on iTunes (also downloaded from iTunes Match) this does not occur.
Does anyone else see this happen or are there any suggestions?
    THANKS
    geo

Hey Guys, from my late model iPhone 4, I am also seeing my iTunes Match songs terminate playing very abruptly ...some won't play at all ...others skip to the next track after 10 seconds.
I checked the source files on my iMAC, and they are 100 percent perfect.
Tried deleting them, recreating them, signing out and then back into iTunes with Match On & Off, etc ...still no resolution to these problems.
Maybe the MATCH product is crashing under it's own weight now?   It used to be good, but now I am not so sure anymore.
Please post if you have any solution or suggestions.
    Thanks!
    Pat

  • After upgrading to 5.01, songs in my playlist no longer are in the same order as on itunes.  I want to at least list them by the most played first not some random Apple order.

Not sure why this is happening and it is a pain. Once the Purchased list sorted by 'date added' go to the left most column and select the top - in my Purchased list the new items go to the bottom and I drag them back up to the top position.

  • After buying a new Macbook pro and opening an iTunes Match account most of my music is grayed out on my Mac and iPhone. I have not turned on iTunes match on my iPad and all my music is fine.  How do I get my music back????

The most efficacious way to get your music and other personal data onto your new Mac is to restore it from the backup you made of your old computer. Once that is done you can re-enable iTM on the new Mac and your iPhone.

  • How can I turn off itunes match on my phone without losing all my playlists?

I have itunes match but want to keep all my music on my iPhone because I travel and don't always have access to the internet.  I upgrades to ios8 and now it seems if I turn off iTunes Match in my phone it get rid of all my playlists.  How can I stop that from happening.  I want my music, and playlist on my phone.

To keep playlists on the phone, create them on the phone
To keep music on the phone, download the tracks before turning off Match.
But turning off Match isn't really necessary. Just turn off Show all music in the music app settings, or do not attempt to play a track that has a cloud icon (i.E. isn't downloaded).

  • My ratings disappeared when I turned On iTunes Match

    Hi there.
I've spent a great deal of time organizing and meticulosely rating songs in my playlists since a couple of years,
recently with iTunes Match, all of my precious ratings dissapeared from many playlists, when I 'Turn On' iTunes Match, the ratings are gone.
I even have a backup of each playlist like Apple suggests, but the ratings won't appear when I import the backups, don't know why.
Anyone knows why the rates dissappear and how to fix this?
    I re-rate some of them and again, but they dissapear if I Turn Off/On ITunes Match;
should I try to rate them with iTunes Match On or Off?
So far working with iTunes Match has been a pain.
    Thanks.

I have the same problem with iTunes match. I did some investigation, and my conclusions so far are:
I have trief iTunes match a few years ago (when it just got released). After a couple of weeks I disabled and cancelled my match account due to the fact that the service is not working correct. Slow, etc. I simply don't want to use match.
But now: my ratings (and other meta data) are reset for music I have bought.
For example: I have an album and I'm rating ALL songs on my iMac
    Then I synchronise my iPhone
After sync, all ratings are visible on my iPhone in the music app
But after a while (unable to exactly pinpoint WHEN) the ratings get reset again to the moment they were when iTunes match was turned on
In short: I have disabled iTunes Match, but it's still bothering me and ratings are getting reset. How can I fix this????

  • After upgrading to iTunes Match Genius Icon Gone on iPhone

After upgrading to iTunes Match Genius Icon Gone on iPhone
So I upgrade and uploaded/matched all my songs to iTunes Match. Everything seems to be fine, except I noticed I don't have the genius functionality on my iPhone. Basically the little atom icon is missing. Does anyone have a solution for this problem.
    Thanks
    Chike

This is what works for me.
I do this once: I keep quite a bit of music loaded on my iPhone using the normal sync process with my Mac (via USB cable) prior to turning on iTunes Match (...let's me listen to at least some music even when disconnected from the net, like when on a plane).  And then I turn iTunes Match back on (and leave it turned on) and it gives me access to the rest of my music library from iCloud when I have network access (3G or Wifi) for normal listening using my whole library over Match.
I start playing a song on my iPhone (one that doesn't have the iCloud icon)
I click the home button (physical button on iPhone that closes the Music app)
I then double click the home button (opens the task manager at the bottom)
Quit Music (press/hold on the Music icon in the tray until the little red circle with an x appears to quit the app)
Then restart Music (tap the Music icon on my iPhone home screeen)
When the Music app restarts, it opens to the last song playing.  if it was one of the songs downloded to my iPhone, it has the litlle atomic symbol again and I can create a genius playlist from it.
FYI: you can enable/disable iTunes Match on the iPhone without affecting songs loaded on your iPhone (even though it says it'll replace your iPhone library, the songs are still there if you enable/disable again).  Settings>>>Music>>>iTunes Match on/off.
