After update client and server to Lion Unable to (re)connect to OD server from updated client (Lion)

Hi all,
I'm a bit in the dark here.
All day searching and reading.. but nothing much yet.
After updating the server and a client to OSX Lion, I'm unable to connect to the open directory of the updated server.
The previous config worked very nice for months.
Now it's a bit iritating, cause imho it seems nothing is in place and its a bit hard to find a solution or how to setup / correct the OD Lion server .
Of course i have downloaded the manuals, that state it's all so easy, and I have seen all the movies on the tubers and they also state its so easy.
Well, since I am feeling a big noob now and before my "self value" degrades 2 below 0 I'm asking 4 your help guys...
Can you give me the candle to find the way in the dark?
There are more things that don't work, but save that for later.. ;(
Situation is as follows:
Started to upgrade the Server 1st.
Then tested from the "old client" and all is working reasonably
Then upgraded to the new Lion client also,
and you guessed it right, no way in.
It's a pretty strait up config...
Hope someone can push me in the richt direction..
(hope it's not the push service from apple, arf arf,  cause that's one of the other things that is not working yet)

Steps I took upto now:
What I did is go to the client and start the Directory Util, and then select the search config.
Add manually the info of the server.
Then If I type in the IP address, i got the green bulp. But it seems not to work.
When I enter the fqdn, I get the error 2100 could not connect to the ODserver (send by the com.apple.systempreferences)
Because it's an upgrade I deleted then the total contents of the previous settings that where initiated by the "old" setup send by the OD server prev. upgrade.
Then I deleted the kerberos files on the client, and all other things related. connecting to the OD server.
Then I deleted the Machine account on the OD server and back to the client.
Then I created the machine account again from the client manually by going in the OD util on the client.
(connected manually by adding the ip address and then clicking the lock on top of the menu and then after auth succeeded I could see all the rec's and other stuff ..which is a great new feature that you used to do by the
WGM. Now available by the ODutil. Nice.
Okay, after all these steps, I get the feeling it should be able to work, but still the 2100 error.
Somehow it "seems" that the DNS is not responding, but when I get in the terminal, it responds nicely to the pings.!!! And almost everything (not because of faulty DNS) is working.!
So now what?
Any help be appreciated.

  • Has anyone else noticed that: "The OS X Lion v10.7.3 Update includes Safari 5.1.3 and fixes that: Resolve a Wi-Fi connection issue when waking from sleep" didn't work?

I installed OS X Lion v10.7.3 because of the following claim.
The OS X Lion v10.7.3 Update includes Safari 5.1.3 and fixes that:
Resolve a Wi-Fi connection issue when waking from sleep
It continues to be a real pain having to reconnect to the network each time I wake my MacBook Air from sleep.
Does anyone have a suggestion for the resolution to this problem?

It seems the update fixed old problems for some and caused new problems for others. Sorry to hear you're in the latter group.
Here are some things to try.
    1. Go to System Preferences > Network, and click the gear icon under the network interfaces like so:
Whatever service order you have set, drag Wi-Fi either to the top (assuming it's not already there) or someplace else in the list. Click OK and then Apply. Sleep the system then wake it again to observe any changes.
    2. Click Wi-Fi in the above then click Advanced. Select all the networks your computer has ever joined and delete them with the "-" button. OK then Apply again. Select your network under the AirPort icon to re-join it. Sleep and wake again to see if that did anything.
    3. Try creating a new, temporary user account. Log in under that account to see if its behavior is any different.
You may have done all of these already but perhaps there is something you have not thought of. If nothing helps we may just have to wait a bit longer for Apple to release a fix.

  • Have trouble query after creating a linked server from SQL Server 2008 to EXCEL 2007

I created a linked server from SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express to an EXCEL 2007 workbook using:
    sp_addlinkedserver @server='LSERVER_EX0', @srvproduct='EXCELDATA', @provider='Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0', @datasrc='C:\Temp\abc.xlsx', @provstr='EXCEL 12.0'
The linked server LSERVER_EX0 was created, but I cannot see any table(excel sheet), and when i ran the following to query tables,
    sp_tables_ex 'LSERVER_EX0'
I got:Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES" for OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "LSERVER_EX0". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
    Any hint why?
on another note, i was able to import the EXCEL sheets using the Import and Export Data wizard, but i cannot control the column data type and size in this way.

Open management studio, goto "Server Objects"->"Linked Servers"->Providers, select the provider you use, right click it and in provider options, check "Allow inprocess".

  • After restoring os x server from macmini to mac pro if config error

    Hello all
I have just restored my os x server 10.6.3 from a mac mini to a new mac pro
Everything is fine except that in the console I find these errors:
    1) com.apple.gw_controld[48703] ifconfig: interface enXX does not exist
where enXX are about twenty different number that does not exist
    2) com.apple.gw_controld[89] socket bind: Can't assign requested addresses
    I tried:
    a) to create a new network configuration
    b) to stop the firewall
but it just keep giving these errors...
I think I should delete some preferences of network configuration or of the old ethernet interfaces
If i give the comand ifconfig here is the result:

Hi!, my Mac Book Air has been totally hacked, and I cannot re/install my OSX because they have also hacked my Internet, so I cannot connect my Mac to the Internet. Any suggestions to fix my poor Mac Book Air????????????
    HELP..........

It's best to describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible, rather than what you think is causing it or how you think it should be solved.

  • Login fails and IP address blocked when attempting to connect to PC upgraded from Win8.1 to Win10

Hi trying to connect to a PC recently upgraded to Win10-64. Login attempts return a "Login failed" message with Reconnect/Cancel options. After 3 (or so) attemtps returns message that too many login attemps and your IP address has been blocked. All my Win7-64 PCs connect ok. Win10 trouble?

I found out...Here's the thing: I had user credentials stored when updating to Win10. I removed this setting and logged in with Client with username and pwd, connection ok. I then went back and selected store credentials, and this time everything went well. So apparently it is a problem connecting with stored credentials after a Win10 upgrade. Or maybe it's just me.

  • Video and audio not synchrone with apple tv after update mountian lion on macbook pro

i have a problem with my apple tv. after i bought and instaled mountain lion on my mac book pro i have trouble with apple tv and my laptop. when my laptop conects with apple tv most of the time my wifi doesnt work on my macbook but on my apple tv it stil does work. when it does work and i play a movie of my own by using itunes the first second the video and audio is synchrone but after that audio is at normal speed but the video gets behind. and i am getting sick of it. does sumbody reconize the problem and can help me with this problem?????

Same issue here- I can airplay my amazon prime library just fine from my iphone 5 but on my macbook- (mavericks, 15 inch 2013 retina with quad core i7, nvidia 650 M and SSD) it just sputters and lags.
I have noticed web video is considerably worse than local content, giving me pauses of up to 2 or 3 seconds in which video stops but audio continues in the amazon player. Youku video, however, seems relatively stable. Our subscription speed is 25 mbps, so that should be plenty to stream SD video from Amazon and doesn't account for why it would be nice and stable from the iphone, but not the mbp.
Playing light, locally hosted steam sidescrollers  like Limbo is better but gives periodic drops in framerate on the Tv. when mirroring the framerate remains steady on the MBP screen.
Games airplayed from my iphone seem relatively stable, though with a noticably lower framerate on the TV than on the phone.
It seems these issues have abated considerably since yesterday's Apple TV update, but are still curious nonetheless and I'm not sure that the update yesterday was specifically meant to address those issues or if I'm just getting a time with less network interference now.
Comcast recently installed a new router/modem/phone combo, replacing our old separate modem and router setup. I'm going to test if putting the network on a different channel helps.

  • After install Leopard and iTunes 9

After install Leopard and iTunes 9, iTunes lock, when I connect my iPhone.
    What can I do?

It was a permissions problem causing it.
Get Info and the Sharing And Permissions section did not show it up.
File Examiner (http://www.gideonsoftworks.com/filexaminer.html) shoed the problem with the permissions and allowed me to give the files the correct permissions again.
From what I have been reading, the whole permission 'system' under Leopard seems to be a bit screwy anway. File Examiner seems good in that it shows you the 'real' file system permissions and not the 'user friendly' meaningless name Leopard gives.

  • Win7 clients can't connect to OSX Server after 10.10.2 and Server 4.0.3 update

I'm troubleshooting an annoying issue with our Yosemite fileserver at work and hoping someone has suggestions.
The server is running Yosemite, clients a mix of MacOS from 10.6 through 10.10, and some Windows 7 boxes.
With the server on 10.10.1 and the just-prior version of Server (4.0, I assume; were 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 ever available to the public?), everything basically worked. Last night, I updated the server to 10.10.2 and 4.0.3.  Nothing unusual during the update apart from a bunch of spotlight indexing processes running as individual users sucking up a lot of CPU for the first few minutes, which may be normal.
However, now almost all the Macs are fine, but the Windows clients are all getting permissions errors when trying to connect. Even weirder, one Yosemite client was also getting an error on login when trying to connect via SMB, both on 10.10.1 and 10.10.2; the same computer connecting via AFP works fine.
I'm inclined to think that it has something to do with the switch to SMB3 mentioned in the changelog for Server 4.0.3, although I'm not 100% sure that didn't exist under 4.0 as well, and if this is the problem I'm not sure what to try to fix it.
I'm already aware of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel needing to be at least 3 (or non-existent, so it defaults to 3 on Win7) to work with Yosemite; these clients already have that registry key set. Suggestions?

Addendum:  I just realized that the Windows users *can* see their own home folder when they connect to the server without the main share I'm trying to mount specified.  So it's not that they're completely unable to connect, it's just that the server isn't offering them any of the main share when they do.
When I tried mounting the server from 10.6 manually forcing SMB (with an admin user, no less), I got the same thing--just my user folder, none of the main shared volumes...

  • After Updating to Server 4.1 Open directory and LPAD gone

    Hello,
two days ago I discovered that Open directory was not working on our Server (Mac Mini 2012). I suspect it stopped working after updating to 10.10.3 and OS-X Server 4.1. When I try to start Open directory in the Server App the Server App prompts: Unable to load Replica List. When I try to recreate my Open directory Server I Get: OD Server already exists.
I get the following log entries:

I had a similar problem. A couple days after upgrading, I encountered OD's "Unable to load replica" problem and had my server's certificate deleted from my system keychain!
Server.app + OD + LDAP are all extremely fragile and I just don't trust them during transitions, so I always keep an independent bootable backup with Carbon Copy Cloner and this preflight script. I'll post my notes for recovering OD below, but in my case, nothing worked this time, and I couldn't start OD robustly across reboots. Fortunately for me, my 12 hour old bootable backup was working, so I just used CCC to copy my bootable backup back. Not sure what I would have done had that not worked short of rebuilding everything from scratch.
    Pre-steps:
    0. Bootable backups, Time Machine backups, and dirserv backups of everything.
    1. Disk Utility: Fix disk permissions, Fix disk
    2. PRAM reset, Command-Option-P-R at boot
    3. DiskWarrior to rebuild the disk directory
    Possible steps to fix OD:
    # Fix Open Directory "Unable to load replica"
    # Try this first:
    # Quit Server.app
    sudo mkdir /var/db/openldap/migration/
    sudo touch /var/db/openldap/migration/.rekerberize
    sudo killall PasswordService
    # Open Server.app
    # Try this second:
    # http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/79141/how-to-fix-failing-open-directory -database-cn-authdata-cannot-be-opened-err
    sudo serveradmin stop dirserv
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.openldap.slapd.plist
    sudo db_recover -h /var/db/openldap/authdata/
    sudo /usr/libexec/slapd -Tt
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.openldap.slapd.plist
    sudo serveradmin start dirserv
    # Try this third:
    sudo serveradmin stop dirserv
    sudo slapconfig -restoredb /private/var/backups/ServerBackup_OpenDirectoryMaster.sparseimage
    sudo serveradmin start dirserv
    # Try this fourth (assuming ccc_preflight od backup):
    sudo serveradmin stop dirserv
    sudo slapconfig -restoredb /private/var/backups/odbackup/od_2015-04-11.sparseimage
    sudo serveradmin start dirserv
    # Try this last:
    sudo rsync -va /your-backup-drive-possibly-TM/private/var/db/openldap/authdata/ /private/var/db/openldap/authdata/
If your server cert gets deleted from the System keychain, you'll need to boot into the bootable backup and export the certificate+key that looks like hostname.domainname.tld, signed by IntermediateCA_HOSTNAME.DOMAINNAME.TLD_1, copy this to the server drive, import back into the System keychain. The cert should then appear within Server.app again. See here for how to do this if all you have is the System keychain file.
If anyone has reliable advice how to fix a corrupt OD that would be a huge help.

Adding redirect path and  pattern in Lion server for configuring software update server.Any changes

Ok, after days of browsing on the forum I found the following hint on another discussion related to AFP access:
"This may be a service ACL issue.
It turns out one of the latest Apple updates turned on Service ACL's which caused AFP connections to be  blocked. Once I fixed the Service ACL in Server Admin... all connections and Single Sign On worked."
Well, after allowing access to all services to all users with Server Admin, we were finally able to log in the server with our admin account...
So, there must have been an update that turned on ACL's which caused even our local access, probably for OD/Kerberos, on the server to be restricted.

  • Conflict between refeneces in Lightswitch\ and Silverlight\ after update to Visual Studio 2013 12.0.40302.00 and SQL Server Data Tools 12.0.50226.0

After updating VS and SSDT there began a conflict with references in two directories under the SDKs folder (Lightswitch and Silverlight):
    Error 91
The type 'System.Data.Services.Client.DataServiceCollection<T>' exists in both '
    ...\Microsoft SDKs\LightSwitch\v4.5\Client\Microsoft.Data.Services.Client.SL.dll' and 'both '
    ...\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v5.0\Libraries\Client\System.Data.Services.Client.dll'
    ...\SPDCDataObjectContext.cs 1478
    52 Spac.DesktopClient
I thought since the Lightswitch directory was newer that I would comment out the Silverlight directory and see how far that would get me. Now I get:
    Error 16
The type or namespace name 'Composition' does not exist in the namespace 'System.ComponentModel' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
    ...\Spac.DesktopClient\GeneratedArtifacts\ApplicationGenerated.cs
    13 36
    Spac.DesktopClient
How do I handle the original conflict between refeneces in Lightswitch\ and Silverlight\ ?
    Scott Mitchell

Thank you. Yes that resolves the conflict but leaves some missing references like the "Composition"
reference above. I was able to get past that by adding System.ComponentModel.Composition. This is after installing the VS 2013 update 4 build.
Now I get the following. I'm concerned that I'm taking references from both Lightswitch and Silverlight
sdk's just to get it to build. These references are required because of the auto generated code. I must have something quirked. Anyway what about System.Data.Common.DbConnection? How can I get it without
    referencing System.Data?
    Error 2
The type 'System.Data.Common.DbConnection' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.
