After update combo startup takes longer to load

Bought new iMac
Straight out of the box and switch on it says updates
So I click updates it gives me combo lion update that takes an hour
The after startup which is slower than when I 1st switched on out of box
I tried something on the forum page someone had said
Verify permissions they say that all things on the iMac differ to what they should be so should I repair the permissions or not ? Help

Since I end up waiting at least 30 seconds to 2 minutes or so for GB to open, I need to figure out if I should just reinstall OS X with the restore disks and leave it at that until a fix arrives... I'd rather not though. Apple, come on, release a patch or some sort of fix for it!
I did try to recreate the problem by using a FireWire iSight but even after doing that and fixing it, nothing changed. I saw in one thread that some people have GB working correctly for them while others do not, so surely there is something somewhere wreaking havoc with GB. This is really odd.

  • New version takes longer to load & nrowsing session times out very quickly

I have recently installed the latest version of Firefox. I have enjoyed using it as a browser in the past. However, this latest version takes longer to load and my browsing sessions time out quicker. Do you have any fixes?

I ran into similar issues with projects that run up to 14MB in size.  Allen Partridge produced a blog post "Nearly Instant Download & Playback of Captivate Files Online" (http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2010/06/nearly_instant_download_playba.html).  I followed Allen's instructions but still found that my projects still took too long to load from the LMS.  After an e-mail exchange with Allen, he suggested that I convert my slide audio's to object audio's.  Seems like slide audio when the course is published become a huge audio string and this string needs to load before the project is launched.   So I place a transparent text box on all my slides that had slide audio and attached the audio to the transparent text boxes.  My load times went from 30 to 90 sec's to 5-10 sec's.  Not sure if you have slide audio but if so try this to see if it helps.
    Good Luck

Unless you believe middle-click is yours and don't like it being usurped, mine is set globally to "Enter".

  • Some web pages take long to load

I just recently got my mac and i like it better than my PC. There is only one problem I run into. I have noticed that some web pages take long to load and once they are loaded i try scrolling down or up and the web page lags big time. Also the grapics are not all that great. My PC runs the pages just fine. This is not a problem for all web pages but only a few. Mainly I see the problem on some myspace profiles. I was just wanted to see if anyone knows why I am having this problem.

    Welcome to the discussions!
It is slower in a measureable sense, or just a "seat of the pants" feeling?
Go to PC Pitstop and run their test. If you are getting the bandwidth that you are paying for, then it is an issue with your broswer.
I do not like Safari. It is slower than Camino, especially in conjunction with CamiTools. Safari is a memory hog and grabs CPU cycles like nobody's business. I have never had any issues with either Camino or Firefox. Either are much better than Safari, IMO.
If you miss the look of Safari, there are skins and even a great RSS reader that can be added to Firefox called Sage. It offers better RSS integration than Safari IMO.
In my experience, Macs just render pages slower than PCs due to poor coding or IE specific coding that lazy web authors. Safari is one of the most standards compliant browsers out there, but if the pages are coded poorly or browser specific, then there is nothing that Safari can do about it.
You can take a look at some settings, but let us know what speeds you are paying for from your ISP and compare those to the actual speeds. Then we can talk about possible solutions.

  • Garageband takes longer to load after the 5.2 update

I've found that Garageband '08 does not load correctly with the 5.2 update. Apparently, Garageband takes up to a minute or longer to load During this time, the initialization window is active, the Finder acts somewhat slower, and Garageband is listed as unresponsive in the Dock. Usually, it loads after a long period of time, and works, but once I quit GB, it has to load up for a long time again. I've seen in other threads that external iSight cameras and other audio-related peripherals can by the cause of this, but I do not use my FireWire iSight camera with my MBP, nor do I have any external speakers and whatnot. Right now, I just have Office 2008 installed alongside the other applications.
My question is what files, if any are conflicting with GB, should I look for? Or what would fix the problem as a whole? I understand that there were some other topics about this issue, but I don't think anyone has mentioned any tips in the past few days. I use GB a lot, so I could use some assistance. Any help would be appreciated.

I could get onto both of those apps quickly with the previous download, i current have iOS. 6
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

I have no more tricks up my sleeve other than maybe it is a firewall issue with your router.
You can tap or click on the heading below and read Apple's take on the issue. I really don't hold out much hope though that his kb article has any more to offer to you, but I am out of ideas now.

  • Battery of new iPad3 updated with iOS6 takes longer to charge

My new iPad3 whose battery was alright when it was running on iOS5. But when I updated the OS to 6, it started taking much longer time to recharge. Is there any suggestion on this issue? Thanks in advance.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • QuickTime takes longer to load files.

I Have noticed that for a while now, since the last update, QuickTime seems to take FAR Longer to load an average 700Mb movie file than it used to before this last update. Can't recall the date for the update but I wondered if therewere any of you people out there experiencing the same trouble.
I tried restoring permissions and even fixing possible problems.... not to avail.
    Suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Will.

I recently added Quicktime Pro to my VISTA machine and noticed how slow files load, too. I would also be interested in an improvement.

  • Pages mail PDF now takes longer to load to send a PDF mail why

HI can some one help me please since I have updated to OS X Yosemite in pages when I do my invoice and click on mail PDF it's takes ages to load when before it was in Instant if you no what I mean can some one help please
    Thank you

This isn't likely to be anything to do with the size of the message.
I'm guessing it's related to DNS. The server performs a reverse DNS lookup on your client IP when it connects. Until that lookup completes it won't process the message. If your DNS isn't setup properly then it can take up to 30 seconds for the DNS lookup to timeout before the mail server continues with the connection.
You can get an idea if this is the case by watching the Mail Activity window as you try to send mail. A long 'opening connection' phase indicates that this is likely the problem. You can also check the mail logs or message headers which may indicate the same thing (e.g. the headers won't show the reverse lookup of the client's address).
As for how to fix it - that's up to your DNS server configuration, so check with whoever manages that.

  • HT4759 After updating I can no longer see iTunes or iBooks, what do I do to see them again?

After updating iOS, now I can't see the iTunes app or iBooks.  The buttons are still there, but when you click on it, it comes up blank.  How do I get it back?

    Try this
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings  (or for network connection issues 'reset network settings').
(no media or data will be deleted from the device, this will only take a minute).

  • JButton rendered with HTML text takes longer to load

I have a JButton that displays text rendered in HTML.
    ie. JButton but1 = new JButton("<html><STYLE=\"font-family: Dialog; font-size: 12pt\"><center>Current<br>Date</center></STYLE></html>");
The reason for the STYLE tag is so that the font matches the rest of the application (instead of defaulting to Times New Roman).
As a result of including the HTML tags, the dialog containing the panel with my buttons takes noticeably longer to load (especially when it's my login dialog).
Does anyone know why this takes longer to render or if there is some way around it?
Interesting to note: One unexpected outcome of using the HTML tags is that it sets all my buttons to the same width (they are in a BoxLayout.Y_AXIS layout), whereas before, they refused to have their size set at all and were all different.

Okay, well I worked out a way around my problem - don't use HTML.
The only reason I was using HTML was to allow me to have multi-line buttons. Using HTML also had the added problem of the text not showing the enabled-state of the button (ie. the text did not appear disabled) or the Mnemonic.
I have created a subclass of JButton that creates multiple lines using JPanels instead of HTML.

  • Startup Takes Longer Than Usual

Lately, my MacBook Pro is taking longer to startup than usual. The initial grey apple logo screen is taking a good 10-15 seconds when it used not to. Does anyone know if this has anything to do with recent software/firmware updates???

  • MacBook shuts down after update on startup

Today my MacBook has been acting up again. This time, I shut it Down and restarted it, then it started applying the update for a while. Then, after it's done, it shus down. When I power it up again, it updates again. Then the same cycle repeats and repeats. Could someone please help me?

I am having identical issues as you described - although I haven't installed secrets preference pane (so I doubt that's involved).
My problem went on for hours one night, I got sick of dealing with it and went to sleep with AC adapter unplugged and macbook off. The next day, it worked fine all day long. Now here I am in the evening - had a power cut, AC adapter went off obviously, and MacBook powered off. Again now I have this problem.
I tried everything you've talked about (PRAM reset) as well as SMC reset, no change. My battery stats look great, says battery is healthy. This started happening to me a few days ago, I upgraded to 10.6 a few weeks ago.. not sure what caused this to start happening.
I found one VERY interesting thing, maybe you can check this: when I have the problem, with AC adapter unhooked, when I try to power up my MacBook it comes up for 2-5 seconds (sometimes until the apple tone, sometimes not), and turns off. If I HOLD THE POWER BUTTON for 5+ seconds the MacBook remains on, the white light on the front flashes, and I get a long tone. This procedure is supposed to be used for firmware updates or something. Anyway, when I do this, the computer comes up perfectly and it uses the battery. When I hook an AC adapter up, that works, but as soon as I unplug it I am back to the same problem. You should try this and see if it works for you, it may be a clue. If nothing else, it's a good way to still use your laptop if you are on the go and can't be dead in the water
My wife has a MacBook slightly newer than mine, I'm going to try her battery when possible to see if that solves the problem. I hesitate to go to the genius bar as they are terrible where I live and it's always been a waste of time
(Also, the battery update fails for me as well).

  • After updating to iOS5, apps do not load??

Recently updated iPhone 4 to iOS5....Please help, every time I try to open apps, they do not load! Facebook, Twitter, App Store even doesnt load. HELP!

Well it certainly beats me as to what is going on.  It took me hours to unlock my iPad, and then I think only by accident.  Heres my situation, hope it helps:
First, my work system requires an eight digit passcode including one capitalized letter and one number.  That's how I log into my PC every day at work.  It is also the passcode I used to set up my "Exchange" account on my iPhone and iPad so I could access my work email and calendars.  For years my iPad and iPhone had simple 4 digit codes.
Then, after the upgrade the simple four digit code did not work.  I was locked out for what seemed like forever.  I tried the eight digit daily computer log in code from where I worked and that I used to set up on my iPad and iPhone Exchange.  It worked.  Beats me.  I then went to settings, password.  I found my settings had somehow mysteriously been reset with the "Simple Password" turned off.  I turned it on again, using the "Exchange" password and entered my old simple four digit password.  It now works.
As they say in France, I'm "sans clue."
