After update, firefox doesn't load any site, not even home page. tried older version, same . what's wrong

auto update to FF5. no home page displayed(about blank), won't load any page from bookmarks. I un-installed and re-installed FF3.6. still won't load any web sites, bookmarked, homepage or others typed in. Chrome and IE still work so not connection or PC fault. I have tried changing proxy, and all other suggestions in your help pages, no effect.
HP Pavillion6300UK running Win XP sp3.5 all updates in place, drivers etc up to date.

It seems that '''every'''solution want to begin with "start Firefox in safe mode" and then check your addons/plugins one at a time. This is extremely time consuming and irritating. I'm almost at the point of looking for other browsers.

  • Since yesterday's (Nov 6th) update, firefox fails to load any sites from web (still displays html files from PC). I tried restore, didn't help.

I've installed the recommended update yesterday (Nov 6th) but didn't restart Firefox. Since restarting the computer this morning, Firefox has failed to open any website from the web. The connection is ok, explorer loads the sites normally, Firefox opens tabs as normal, it's just that the content of the pages doesn't show up, and after a while we get messages like "connection timed out". HTML files that I have stored on my own hard drive display normally in Firefox.
I tried "restore Firefox" but it didn't help.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • After today latest update Firefox doesn't load Mafia Wars (on Facebook), but it loads other web sites. Chrome loads it alright.

After latest (today) Firefox automatic update Mafia Wars doesn't load on Firefox. Other sites do load ok. Chrome loads Mafia Wars ok.
I can't load Mafia Wars from Facebook, neither from Zynga directly. Only think I get is a blank page.
I downloaded and installed latest Java and Flash to no avail.

This issue exists for me on a clean installation of Windows 7 64bit running Firefox 7.0.1 with all addons disabled and the cache cleared out. Even with additional cleaning using CCleaner the problem persists.
This problem also exists on my work Win7 64bit box running Firefox 6.0.2 and Windows XP Pro SP3 running Firefox 7.0.1.
My roommates who run Windows Vista are unaffected.

  • Firefox Doesn't Load Any Website and Scroll Bar Switches to the Left Side of the Screen??

First let me say this is a work computer that I am using, so there is plenty of virus protection and firewall. I have always used firefox for all my casual internet browsing and work network needs. I recently updated to the latest version of firefox and that is when I started having problems. Almost any web page I go to wether it is my work intranet home page or a common site such as google mozilla will not finish loading the page. If I hit refresh or try to go to another site it gets wierd and the scroll bar switches to the left side of the screen and the page seems to be stuck loading. At this point almost nothing responds to any mouse clicks except for closing the firefox window. If I go to tools --> options it brings up a blank options window with only the "ok" and "cancel" buttons displayed. Help please, I don't like using IE, but right now that is my only option.

  • Firefox doesn't load any website

    Hello,
I installed Firefox on a Windows 8 laptop recently but I cannot access any website with it, it either gives me the error message "server not found" or simply doesn't do anything.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall it first, then to follow the various troubleshooting suggestions from the support but nothing worked. I am not using a proxy so I set Firefox's connection settings accordingly. I deactivated both antivirus and firewall, I also added Firefox to the list of safe applications in my firewall. I changed the config for IPv6 and DNS Prefetching as instructed. I have not been able to load any page at all since I installed Firefox so I assume that my history, cookies, etc are clean but I did reset Firefox to factory settings anyway.
The version I am using is 33.1 with no extensions or anything else installed.
I have never encountered this problem before so I am completely clueless. I can load any website on the other two browsers that are installed (IE and Chrome) so I guess there is some sort of incompatibility somewhere.
Any help would be very welcome.
    Thank you.

  • After updating firefox i cant play any pogo games. how come?

When i installede the latest version of Mozilla firefox I cannot play any of my pogo games. How can i remedy this?

Mozilla are aware of the issue in Firefox 3.6.14 and are working on a fix, no timescale but they are planning on a quick release.
A workaround pending the release of 3.6.15 is to install 3.6.13, for details see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/pogo-and-other-java-pages-dont-work

  • After updating Firefox Browser a week ago a "Note Taking" program I had installed with a launch in the Tools tab disappeared ... 6 tabs of notes are gone now?

I had a nifty note taking program with a launch line in the Tools Tab of the browser ... I offered six separate pages to take notes ... I cannot remember the name of the program and when I updated the Mozilla Firefox Browser to the latest version about a week ago the line to launch that Note program in the Tools Tab was gone ... I cannot find my notes on those six pages and they were voluminous ... any ideas where the program went?

You are using Firefox 23.0, which is an unstable version of Firefox not yet ready for release (the latest stable version of Firefox is Firefox 22.0)
Quite possibly, the application you were using is not compatible with such a high version of Firefox.
You might want to take a look here (http://mzl.la/MOvsag) to see if downgrading Firefox can be a solution for you. If you were last using Firefox 22.0, you can go over to the Mozilla website (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) and get Firefox from there.
Also, please check out Session restore for more information (http://mzl.la/MCnd4M)

  • Every time I start up Firefox the PluginChecker loads in addition to my home page.

In tools/ startup "show my home page is selected".
There does not appear to be anything else but the URL for my home page in the homepage URL window in tools/start up.
Other related problem: If I do not have "history cleared when Firefox closes", all the previous tabs open next time I start up. (I do NOT have "show my windows and tabs from time" selected.)
If I have history kept, and open and close a bunch of times, I will get the screen filled with one home page and as many plugincheckers as I closed down with plus one.

    See:
Thee can also be a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.sqlite, extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry.<br />
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to do a compatibility check or see if there is an update.

  • Firefox doesn't load major department stores' particular item pages (Macy's & JCPenny).

I was trying to do some shopping online, and firefox (latest version) keeps going blank. It loads the heading, and than just stays there (looks like it's loading), but even after 15 min it's still blank. I opened it faster in Internet Explorer.

Hello MileySmiley, many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Following your instructions for fixing problems after downloading firefox 4 made it completely unusable, not even able to connect for feedback.

I was having with internet and web connections just stopping or freezing after downloading firefox4. I tried following your dirrections that said to turn it off then back on. It turned off but would not go back on. I couldn't connect to anything so went back to my old search engine. I couldn;t even send you information concerning the problem until I got your recent email. The dirrections are really hard to follow for people who are not great on computer lingo. Can you write it out step by step?

Press '''START + R''' in keyboard to open the '''Run''' box(or '''start''' then '''run''') , type in the RUN box '''%APPDATA%''' (or copied in just i wrote, bold text) then click '''OK'''. A Windows Explorer window will appear, in this window, choose '''Mozilla''' then '''Firefox''' then '''Profiles'''. Each folder in the "Profiles" folder (e.g., "xxxxxxxx.default") is a profile on your computer (maybe is one file if you have only one profile).
see for more info : [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile folder - Firefox ]
    try it, good luck
    thanks again

  • Recently Firefox has stopped loading some graphics including the home page. Is this a virus ? I have reloaded Firefox with the same result.

I have started using Chrome, Opera and even IE with no problem.

You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
*Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
*Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
*Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
*Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
*If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.

  • Tried to update firefox to 9.0.1, did not work, tried to go back to 8.0.1, now it will not browse and no bookmarks are showing.

I got message that a Firefox browser update was available. I tried to update a couple times and got message that another Firefox browser was running on my computer, so I tried removing version 8.0.1 and used Internet Explorer to download Firefox 9.0.1 and install it. I had saved what I thought was my bookmarkbackups folder on a separate hard drive. The new version would never load or open and kept giving me .dll files that were missing, so I uninstalled that version 9.0.1 and tried going BACK to Firefox v 8.0.1 . Now that will open but will not browse to any sites, not even Google, and all my bookmarks are not showint even though I pasted them from the hard drive copy to the bookmarkbackups folder. Can someone help me get Mozilla Firefox working again and how to import my bookmarks?
Also, when Firefox opens I get this message every time:
    "Alert:
Could not initialize the application’s security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application’s profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features."

I went to the link you said to and then clicked on the "Firefox Free Download, 9.0.1 for Windows, English (US)" and that took me to ''http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-9.0.1&os=win&lang=en-US'' which had another limk to click on to start the download.
The file downloaded but when I tried to run it my AntiVirus (ZoneAlarm) said that it was corrupt. So I removed that file and downloaded another from the same site and ZoneAlarm said that was infected and a contained possible malicious virus.
So now I have no Mozilla Firefox and do not know how to get it back in a version that will run.
Anyone, please help if you can.
