After update, iTunes hangs on "Verifying iPod"

Question

Updated iTunes tonight, but whenever I plug my iPod in, it gives me the message "Verifying iPod" for several minutes, then freezes and is unresponsive. Have tried leaving it for ages, closing it and trying again, but not helping. Has this happened anyone else?

I would like to get a dump from the iTunes process while this hang is occurring:
1. Disconnect your iPod from the computer.
2. Launch iTunes.
3. Download and unzip ProcDump to your desktop:

4. Click the Windows icon in the lower left and type cmd in the Search field.
5. Right-click on the cmd Program and choose Run as Administrator.
This opens a command line window
7. Type this into the window:
+C:\Users\<your account user name>\Desktop\procdump.exe-h iTunes.exe iTuneshang.dmp+
where <your account user name> is the name of your user on Windows.
8. Press Enter.
Some text should appear that looks something like this:

+Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com+
+Process: iTunes.exe (2800)+
+CPU threshold: n/a+

+Dump file:+ <some location on your computer>
9. Connect your iPod.
When iTunes hangs, ProcDump should create a .dmp file in the location listed by Dump File above.
10. Email me that file: <[email protected]> and please include a link to this Discussions thread and your Discussions username.
