After update os mavericks can't send mail

I thought I had successfully installed Mavericks on my MacBook Pro but now I can only receive mail not send it. And this is not a gmail account. I appreciate any help on this one!!

Mail stopped working after a restart with Ethernet disconnected. No changes to the previously-working multiple account setups. I even added a new account and the new one didn't work either. I booted into a second admin account and entered known-working info. The (bogus) error was that the required ports were not open. I even tried changing the ports to generic ones. Nothing worked.
Repairing permissions and resetting the PRAM also did nothing.
I finally cleared the problem by booting into SAFE mode (cold start with SHIFT held down). After a normal re-boot Mail again worked as it should.

I can't send mail on hotmail using os x mavericks, why?

I also was having the SMTP (offline) issue for Gmail and Comcast after upgrading to Maverick but not immediately.   I read through all the posts.  I was not seeing a common thread for a solution so I decided to bite the bullet and call Apple(if it costs, it costs).  I set up a call back.  They called me in 15 minutes, set up a view of my screen and proceeded to troubleshoot.  He started by going to "Window" "connection doctor".  Observed the red dots and descriptions as being a username/password issue.  Then went to "mail","Preference", account icon and entered the gmail 2-step verification password generated by Gmail and before clicking done (on the Gmail website),clicked on the "SMTP Mail server" box and chose "edit SMTP server list". In the window that appeared also entered the same Gmail generated password there as well.  We then tested by going to the "Connection Doctor" getting green dots for both incoming and outgoing Gmail entries.  Next test was sending email to myself.  It worked.  We did the corresponding procedure for the Comcast account.  It took 25 minutes and cost nothing.  I was surprised at the price since my iMac is 4 years old.  I hope this lasts and I don't get really good at this procedure.

  • SMTP menu not updating...can't send mail

i'm having trouble sending mail using a wireless network. at home, i recently got a new cable service provider (cox cable). i had to update my accounts info in mail by adding my ISP as the SMTP server (smtp.cox.net). Now i'm using a wireless network at work, which I have used many times before i added the cox smtp to my list. the messages won't send because a problem with the SMTP server, but when I go to the menu to select the server that used to work for my wireless network at work, only the smtp.cox comes up on the list. so i totally deleted this SMTP server, yet the message still won't send and smtp.cox still comes up as the only choice on the server list when i get the error message. is this a glitch? how can i purge my computer of this smtp server so that i can send mail when i'm not at home??
    thanks for your advice!

If you deleted a POP account, then all your mail stored locally in that account's mailboxes has certainly been wiped out, not just moved somewhere, and you were warned that this would happen by the following alert (Mail 2.x):
    Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.
For each mail account, Mail creates a folder within ~/Library/Mail/ whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, .Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Deleting the account causes this folder and everything within it to be deleted as well.
If the POP account was configured to leave mail on the server for some time instead of removing it right away, incoming mail that's still on the server can be downloaded by setting up the account again, but keep in mind that this will only work for incoming (i.e. not sent) mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don't have a backup, your only option is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx (Mail 2.x) or mbox (Mail 1.x) files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage. Of these, the only one I know for sure that can recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

  • After updating to mavericks I have to constantly enter my apple ID for mail, iBooks, iTunes and many other applications that used to be part of my keychain. How can I get my log-in to work again?

After updating to mavericks I have to constantly enter my apple ID for mail, iBooks, iTunes and many other applications that used to be part of my keychain. How can I get my apple ID log-in to work again?

Several times I've re-entered my passwords under Preferences/Internet Accounts/iCloud and it won't save since I've installed Mavericks.  Also, the iCloud icon in the left column in Preferences/Internet Accounts/iCloud is greyed out but allows me to click on it to set-up.  When I click on iCloud the password is filled out but the "Enable this account" check-box is not checked.  I check it, and all seems correct.  The icon is no longer grey, the password is correct, the "activate this account" check-box is checked.  Then, when I launch mail, notes etc. I'm still prompted to re-enter my apple ID.  The log-in loop continues.  For years my keychain has worked perfectly.  What has changed in Mavericks?

  • Can't send mail since 10.4.6 update

Since updating my OS to 10.4.6 I can't send mail. I can receive mail and I can browse online. But mail will not go out. I've verified all the Outgoing Mail Server info SEVERAL times and have had no luck. I've enabled Entourage to handle mail instead of MacMail and it won't work either. Totally stumped.
Same thing has happened on my iBook G4 laptop by the way. I'm convinced that the update has something to do with this.

    INTERNET CONNECTION LOST
so... since the 10.4.6 update once my computers fall asleep the connection to my wireless router is lost. (mail seems to be working ok, when i have an internet connection...)
I have tried multiple things to fix this. Thus far the only solution seems to be resetting the router to use connect back to the internet. Once this is done the internet connection works fine, until lost or the computers go to sleep. When i wake the computer i have to do it all over again... and on top of it the post link is missing on all the pages!!! so i am replying here.
So this time I have rebooted to my external drive with the previous version (10.4.5) to see if indeed it is the 10.4.6 update that seems to have hosed this connection somehow.
HELP please, this is terrible annoying. Is anyone else experiencing this?
    thank you.

  • I can not open Airport utility on my iMac after updating to maverick 10.90.4

I can not open Airport utility on my iMac after updating to maverick 10.9.4 . Error Message:[You can’t use this version of the application “AirPort Utility.app” with this version of OS X. You have "Airport Utility.app"5.4.2] It also will not allow me to install "airport Utility 6.3. Does anybody has a fix for this?

Re-run Software Update and see if there is a newer version of Airport Utility. I suspect your router or iMac may be too old to use Airport Utility 6.3 . As a work- around if Software Update does not work then try reading this article and see if the suggested solution help you.

  • After updating to Mavericks I can't open iTunes. I keep getting a popup telling me to unclick "run in 32- bit mode" in iTunes info. I have done that several times and rebooted. Everything else seems to be working fine.

After updating to Mavericks, I can't open iTunes. I keep getting  a pop up telling me iTunes needs to run in 64-bit mode. After following directions several times to go to Finder, iTunes, Get info and "unclick 32-bit mode" it still won't work and i keep getting the smae pop up window. I've rebooted several times also.

What version of iTunes do you have? The current version of iTunes for Mavericks is 11.1.5 and the default mode is 64 bit. If "Open in 32 bit mode" is checked and you cannot uncheck it are you logged on using an account with administrative priveleges?

  • After update to Mavericks I can't open disc drive from keyboard

    Hello
After update to Mavericks I can't open disc drive from keyboard on my Mac Pro.
I found the only way to do this is via disk tools , there I can eject my disc drive - seems now to be the only way - should not be like this.
    Any idea , Please??

I used to use 2 keyboard keys - It now works with only 1.
So it works now , but different.
    Thank you.

  • Can't send mail since 4/2/08 Quicktime update

Don't know if it's coincidence or not - but since I updated my Macbook this morning, the "Send" button in mail is continuously grayed out. I sent mail last night, so it was OK before applying the update.
Everything else seems to work OK.
Ideas on why I can't send mail now?

Ok - this is a weird one. Looks like something zapped my Gmail SMTP account, and defaulted to "none" for SMTP.
Had to completely build my Gmail SMTP settings again.
