  • Satellite C55-A - after BIOS update cooling fan runs faster

    Hello,
I was informed by Toshiba application that new BIOS version is available I confirmed it and BIOS was updated. Now I have problem. Cooling fan runs faster than before and it is very annoying.
Can I find older BIOS version somewhere and roll it back? I don't need it if it doesn't work properly.
Now I have version 1.40. Is there some solution for this new version?
Message was edited: posting has been translated

Toshiba EU driver page provides only the latest BIOS version.
Furthermore the BIOS downgrade isnt possible using the win-bases BIOS update.
In order to downgrade the BIOS on Toshiba unit, you will need to use the traditional BIOS update method which requires special BIOS version. This is available only for authorized service provider.
At the other hand there must be an serious reason why the cooling module run faster.
Maybe the cooling method has been improved in new BIOS just to ensure that internal parts would be cooled down properly.
Its just an assumption but I think it makes sense
By the way: after each BIOS update, you should load the BIOS default settings and should save the changes. If you havent done this in the past, do it

Hi there, same problem here but on a PowerPC.
I just bought AE7 and installed it on my G5 (with then 10.3.7 running on it). Install went fine but the application would not start up.
Thought this might be a good time to clean up and installed fresh new system on this G5, updated it to 10.3.8 and first thing: installed AE7 again.
But: same problem. In fact, all Adobe application will not start up! The icon bounces a little and then nothing but a crash report.
For a moment I thought I had the solution, because I disabled all the "user fonts". Everything worked fine. Then I installed, as before, my Apple applications (Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, etc) and, oh no... same problem over again. The Adobe application will not start up!
Tried to disable all non essential fonts: no cure. This is driving me crazy....
    Any suggestions?

  • Cooling fan runs too much

I've had my MacBook for about 5 months. Recently (the past month or so) I've noticed the cooling fan running a a lot. Even if it's in a cool environment, sitting on a desktop, it will sometimes run constantly. There are only a couple of applications open and no CD/DVD in the drive. This problem is random; for instance, today it started after I restarted my machine. It's been running non-stop for a half hour now. I do regular updates, including the latest firmware update last week. Any ideas?

I'm not surprised. Last time mine did it is was a printjob that was running. I didn't try to print but something I looked at or did caused it to start.
Go back into activity monitor and high light the process. Then click the stop sign looking icon to quit that process.

  • Cooling fan runs constantly on Tecra A3

I have a Tecra A3 an my fans runs constantly, even when idleing, and it has done this since i got it (about 18 months ago). It also runs at a constant rate, and it's just like hear Arnold talk - very annoying. Sometimes one (?) of the fans stopp running for just a couple a seconds, and then it starts again, back to the same speed. I've had the computer in for repairs, and they changed the fan and cleand the cooling system, but this didn't make things better, well, okay, I got rid of the ratteling sound, but that was all!
I've tried everything i can think of, currently I'm running the computer fixed on the lowest setting for the processor speed and battery optimized cooling by the help of the Power Saver utility, but it doesn't seem to help at all. I also tried setting the processor speed to low in the BIOS setup, this made some difference, and the fan stayed of for periods of up to 30 seconds (!), bur the performance of the computers performance was horrible with these settings so I had to change it back to dynamic processor speed.
As for the the temeratures i get at temperature of about 36-37 degrees celsius (95-97 degrees Fahrenheit) for the HD temperature (using speedfan). So theres no problems with overheating (?). This leads me to believe that this might be due to a bug in the software. I'm currently using a norwegian install of Windows XP with SP2, it's a custom install, provided by my university (my computer is a student PC bought through the university).
So, can anyone help my make my computer quiet, like normal, sane computers ?!
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hello Stigs
I use Tecra notebook (M1) for years and I can tell you that this model is really one of quietest notebooks I know but it is definitely no utterly quiet and cooling fan runs almost constantly but on slowest level. I know that it has nothing with your problem but I just want to say that quietest notebook produces noises.
Reading your posting I can just say that you are probably right when you say that it can not be because of hardware because the notebook temperature is OK and there is no sign of overheating. The fact is that all newer notebooks are louder than some old models and Tecra A3 is one of them and unfortunately there is no much to do. As far as I know nobody has reported about any software bug till now. Many bugs are fixed by BIOS updates and all I can recommend you, is to check if new BIOS version is available and see if this can help. Please before you start with BIOS update read carefully Instructions how to do this.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook pro cooling fan runs continuously after software update

I updated Mountain Lion last night (Mar 15, 2013). I forgot the version number, but it was 10.8.? I think.
After restarting the computer this morning, the cooling fan suddenly shot up, making crazy noise. It didn't come back, so I had to turn the computer off with physical switch. While the fan was running, battery was draining so fast. I began with 100%, but went to 65% in 45 minutes. Such thing never happened before. I did not run the computer with complicated Apps when it happened. I was using Safari and Logos Bible software. Does it have anything to do with the new software?
It is quiet right now, after restarting. I paid more than $2k for this computer last fall. Didn't have any problems yet. But it happened all of a sudden. Anyone has any idea??

Next time this should happen try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If no success, look at Activity Monitor to see if you have a 'runaway process' and terminate it if not required by the OS or perform a restart.

  • Updated to OS 10.7.3; fan runs constantly and battery life dropped to under 2 hours when 100% charged. How do I get back to 10.7.2, I don't have a backup prior to this upgrade. This is a newer Macbook Pro 13", no modifications.

Help! This new version of Lion is making me miserable. The fan runs constantly, the computer is hot and battery life has dropped to under 2 hours on a fully charged battery. I updated yesterday, nothing but misery today. Even running the mail program alone make the fan run like I have everything open. Using Pages, iPhoto, and iTunes simultaneously makes the computer blistering hot.Yesterday, I could use all three without any trouble. Any suggestions to either jettison 10.7.3 or how to fix without any expense? I haven't modified this computer at all, it is as it came from the box in August 2011: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3.

I updated to Lion 10.7.3 and started noticing my fans running on high all the time and my battery would drain 2-3x faster.  I was going to take my computer into an Apple store until I found this thread.  I did the SMC reset by shutting down my computer, plugging it in, and then pushing down shift+control+option while also pushing down the power button.  Nothing happens on the screen and the computer did not turn on.  I then released all the buttons at once after holding them down for 10 seconds.
After that, I simply turned my computer back on and everything seems to be working fine.  The  fans are not blasting anymore.  I have a newer MacBook Pro where I can't access my batteries.  The SMC reset may differ for other types of laptops.

  • After updating OSX Mavericks, I have two problems:

    1) my mobile broadband software / dongle does not work (I use a Huawei E169 HSDPA USB stick).
    2) my network printer does not work (I use a Canon C5030i).
On both I have tried to reinstall the latest driver software available, and still it does not help. I am confused as this is obviously related to the upgrade, but dont know if the solution should come from Apple or the two other vendors concerned...
    Alex

The other two vendors need to update their drivers. However, Canon's update will likely come through Apple in the form of a printer update.
You might try removing the printer and re-adding it to the Print & Scan system pref. Sometimes that will make them work after updates or upgrades.

  • Parallels error after updating OSX

I just updated OSX (which I hadn't done on this computer in a long time) and now whenever I open my windows XP parallels VD, it crashes (as per usual with windows).
when it boots it asks if i want to boot into safe mode or command line or normal and when i hit normal, it starts the loading page, but parallels crashes before the login screen.
i tried updating parallels and the update installed fine, but it didn't help the crashing issues.
    Any solutions?
    Thank You
    Ben

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Satellite R830-182 - cooling fan runs permanently

    Hi,
I have just purchased a R830-182. The fans runs 100% of the time, starting with the moment I boot up. Is this right, I expect the fan on a laptop to kick in when the CPU reaches a certain temperature? This is annoying as it is fairly noisy. Have also tried running the laptop at lowest possible power - no software open, WIFI off, battery saver power management, screen brightness turned down etc to no avail.
Anyone out there with the same model know if this is an issue or just how this laptop it is supposed to work?

I agree with as***: change the cooling mode in Win 7 power management

it seems that your notebook has not been equipped with an fingerprint. But check if the fingerprint software is installed. If its installed, then remove this from the system.
Furthermore I recommend changing some BIOS settings:

Dynamic CPU frequency mode (not sure about the available options but try different posibilites)

  • Mac Book Pro Core 2 Duo Cooling Fans running at 6000rpm

    Hey everybody.
Need a little help/advice. I bought a MBP 17" C2D back in June and now the cooling fans turn up to around 6000 rpm minutes after turning on my notebook. I've tried SMC fan control, which didn't work. I searched for a stray program, but nothing turned up. I am trying to avoid having to drive to the Apple Store (I will if I have to), but wanted to see if anybody else had a suggestion. Any feedback is appreciated, bigtime. Everything works normally too, all my programs, my wireless card, etc. Leopard installed in a breeze. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

    Two possibilities:
    1. a stray process is maxxing out your CPUs, and the fans are running normally to keep the heat down. To diagnose this (A) open /Application/Utilities/Activity Monitor, choose "All Processes" from the popup menu, then click the CPU column to sort by CPU amount. Look for anything that consistently uses over 30% CPU.
    2. If you've been messing with SMC fan control, it's possible your fans are out of whack. To fix this: (A) make sure you uninstall all fan control software -- there are at least 2 different programs out there, so make sure you uninsall all of them. (B) reset your SMC chip as per: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319 (C) when you reboot, if your fans are now quiet, make sure you actually feel the macbook's case -- in one case I had, the fans stopped working which was nice & quiet, but it quickly became blazing hot which was not good.

    Hello
I have the problem that constantly runs in my Nootebook the fan. How can I open the case and clean it?
    I have a Satellite L850-1KG
    Thank you

I don't know how old is your notebook and if dust can be reason for permanently running cooling fan but try please at first to check advanced power options. There you will find option for cooling method. Set it please to battery optimized. This should reduce cooling fan activity.
I also hope you use notebook on the desk and cooling fan/cooling grill is free.
By the way: do you use original Toshiba recovery image with original display driver?
