After update sticks on "updating itunes library".

After installing the new updates several times, both quicktime and itunes. When I click on itunes it opens up and gets stuck on the updating ituns library. When I look on the task manager it says itunes not responding. Any suggestions.

Okay. That leaves a couple of open possibilities.
(1) Are you set to automatically download podcasts? If iTunes is simultaneously trying to update the library after the upgrade, and download a slightly scruffy podcast file, then it can hang like this.
If so, try disconnecting from the network/internet and launching iTunes again. Does the library update manage to go through if it's not downloading the podcasts?
(2) If it's still hanging at updating library, the update is likely choking on a content file or files in your library collection. Tracking down which ones are causing the issue is a trial, but the "Check for content files with issues" section from the following document may be of some help:

The only way is to connect the iPod to a computer with has an internet connection and iTunes and restore the iPod. Use as friiend's computer or make an appointment at ther Geniuds Bar of an Apple store.

  • Can I burn hd home movies to dvd in itunes after importing them into my itunes library

Can I burn to dvd, HD home movies from a HD camera in itunes after importing them in my itunes library

I don't have iTunes set to manage my music but if I move an item to the trash that is the file iTunes uses, it will still play in iTunes until I empty the trash.  Of course at that point it is permanently gone so if that was my keeper file then I have messed up.
One overlying recommendation is to back up your computer before doing the editing.  If you make a mistake you can always go back and try again.

I updated my iPod Nano 7th Generation, and it wiped my iTunes library. I no longer have my playlists or movies. I was able to recover my music, but the many, many playlists I had, I could not recover. Is there any way I could recover them?

    Hello apbvieira,
It sounds like your iPod Nano is not recognized in iTunes anymore after a recent update. I recommend the following article to help you get that in order named:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows

    1. Start with the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant
If you haven't already done so, use the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant that applies to your iPod. This will often solve your issue.
If you're still experiencing the issue after going through each of the steps in the assistant, continue with the steps below in this article. The most likely solutions are listed below (for both USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) iPod connections). Check each section starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping your iPod from appearing.
Note: To determine if your iPod syncs via USB or FireWire, check the table in the Additional Information section below.
This step will get you started, but there are additional steps in the article if you need them.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Questions about updating ratings in my iTunes library.

Hey, I've always wondered this, but is there any way to have the ratings in my library updated from my ipod when i hook it up to my pc? For example, if i'm listening to my ipod, and realize that i don't want it anymore, and lower the rating, is there any way that when i hook it up to my pc, it'll automatically change the rating of that song in my library to that new lower rating? I'm pretty sure that iTunes used to do this, which made managing my music a **** of a lot easier, but now, I have to manually look up each song with a lower rating just to get rid of it from my library.

Automatic syncing is indeed supposed to sync rating changes made in the iPod back to the iTunes library. However, after several years of working fine, in the past year I have found that it has become unreliable; often the sync fails to update the library with iPod play counts and rating changes.
Since you note that "iTunes used to do this," you may well be experiencing the same problem.
Updating iTunes did not help. Restoring the iPod did not help. The only way I have found to assure that it works 100% is to reboot Windows before syncing the iPod. (Yes it is a pain.)

  • Updating xml file by iTunes library

I have several iTunes libraries, managing them with 'iTunes Library Manager', bought from Dougscripts.
When I add songs to my (main) library or make some changes in the data, all is perfectly visible in iTunes.
As I use the iTunes data in a FileMaker Pro program, I want of course to update the information in the FMP program by running a script which reads the newly added songs from the xml file of the (main) iTunes library.
This does not work, the newly added songs are not found.
When I save the library, select another library and subsequently reload the main library, it works.
Apparently, the xml file of the (main) library is not updated, unless it is forced by the saving, closing and reloading operation.
Is there another way to force the library to update its xml file?

My point is, that this does not happen.
While the library is in use and even after it or iTunes itself is closed, the xml file is not updated, at least my script cannot find the recently added songs.
Only after expressly saving the library and opening another library and reopening the original library, my script finds the new songs, so only then the xml file has been updated.

I think the first thing you need to do is to find out if the crash is caused by a problem with the content you imported.
Hold down the shift key (key for upper case) and start iTunes. Keep holding the shift key until you are promoted to choose or create a library. Choose Create and create a library away from you normal iTunes, maybe in your documents fodler.
This library will be empty and the only purpose for creating it is to see if iTunes will open when it does not use your normal library.
If iTunes will not open, check to see if your QUicktime works, iTunes can not work if QUicktime does not.
If Quicktime works normally try this trouble shooting article:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
    Vista version
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
If you can not resolve the problem with this article, then try repairing iTunes or uninstalling and reinstalling.

  • After a power outage my Itunes library is lost

I am North of the Arctic circle at work, and today while talking to my wife she informed me that the family Itunes library is empty. Here are the details
1- I have a Mac mini server running in the basement on a flat screen TV, I use this as my home enertainment center. There are Apple TVs on the rest of the TV's in  the house and I have home sharing on
2- thunder storms have caused a power outage
3- The library has been cleaned. The items i still had for down load are still down loading, but all my movies, songs, apps, ect are not listed.
4- I was always going to get around to backing it up, and didn't. Iknow, I know
I think all the items are still there, I tunes just can't find them. One of the two hard drives was approaching full and i was looking at relocating the itunes files to the second hard drive, BUT being a novice with computers I was stumbling and never got it done. I had looked into it and remember scrolling through the screens that had been listed in forums.
I wonder if i did move the files and the restart finished what i had screwed up?
    So here is the questions
How do i search for Itunes files? the program runs, but the data is not there
How do i teach Itunes to look where i dropped the files when and if i find them?
thank you for looking, thank you more if you have an answer

  • How to update iphone without deleting itunes library

My old computer crashed- I started using a new MBPro but never copied over itunes- now I have 2 separate itunes libraries & want 2 update my phone but it says it will delete everything on my iphone/comp if I want 2 continue with the update- is there an alternative??
I really dont want to have any of my old or new music/movies deleted.  Can anyone help- I am really not good with computers and feel like this should not be this difficult even for me- and yet it is!
    Please help! Thanks

Sorry to hear about your macbook.
Others have reported that if you have at least on contact and calendar entry on your new computer when you sync, then it will not erase you iphone, it will simply merge the two. While that makes perfect sense, I have not tried it myself.
As for the texts, I don;t think you can get those back.
Music can only be synced to one library at a time, so the music will be gone. However, in Itunes you can "transfer purchases," at least putting your itunes purchased music on your computer.
It is always a good idea to have a backup. I use an external hard drive. Then you will have a complete backup if anything happens to your computer.
Good luck. I hope it works out.

  • I Have an updated app in my itunes library but is is not syncing to my ipod

I had version 1.0 on my ipod and when the update came (v 1.01) out I downloaded it to my laptop. The app on my ipod (v 1.0) now doesnt work and has the download status bar saying the name of the app underneath the tile. I dont really want to redowload the app as our internet connection is very slow and expensive (I live in an ADSL) blackspot.

    - First try resetting the iPod. Nothing willbe lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - If you have no app data you want to retain you can try deleting the app on the iPod and syncing
    - You can also try restoring from backup

  • How can I move an existing iTunes library from a Dell PC (which uses Windows Vista) to a MacBook Pro?  I have tried to copy the library from the PC onto a memory stick but cannot move from the stick onto the MacBook Pro.

I have tried to copy my iTunes library from my old (2008) Dell PC to a 32 GB memory stick and then copy it from the stick to the iTunes library in the new MacBook Pro which I purchased recently from a reputable dealer which resells refurbished Macs, (lease returns, etc).  The dealer was Computer Trends store in Saskatoon.  They told me how to move my existing iTunes libary from the PC to the Mac but I cannot seem to achieve that objective.  The Mac does not seem to recognize the memory stick.  I thought the Mac would recognize that the memory stick held iTunes files and would then transfer them without prompting to its own iTunes libary.  It did not do so.  I have therefore tried to find the command sequence within iTunes (on the Mac) for moving the material from the memory stick to the iTunes library.  Cannot find those commands.  Does anybody know where to find such commands.  I have to say, I am really disappointed that such a simple function would prove to be beyond my capabilities.  I thought the Mac was supposed to be easier than a PC.  !!!  Oh well, I am hoping this forum will help !!!

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
So, you can see your whole iTunes folder on the memory stick after copying from the PC?
