After updating Camera Raw from 8.4.1 to 8.5, it revert back to 8.0

During last Creative Cloud periodic update, I saw in the list the update to ACR 8.5. After the update, I have checked, and on both Bridge and Photoshop, the version of ACR reverted back to 8.0. Before of the upgrade was 8.4.1. In the order, I tried to:
1) Update from internal functions of Bridge and Photoshop. Update check result was that there wasn't available update (ACR appeared in the list as application)
2) Install manually ACR 8.5 from a manual update package indicated in a similar post on this forum.
3) Uninstall both Bridge and Photoshop.
4) Re-install Bridge and Photoshop.
After all actions, the ACR version available is still 8.0. I'm really surprised, because I can't understand from where is coming the 8.0 version, considering that my version before the update was 8.4.1.
OS Windows 7 64 bit
Bridge CC 6.0
Photoshop CC 2014
Can anyone help me?

I assembled the two answers from Noel and Ashutosh that, executed in the following order, let me circumvent the bug of the updater.
Many thanks to Noel and Ashutosh
I don't know how geeky you want to get, but if you're comfortable navigating around folders and zip files, here's a manual technique that will work...
Close Photoshop first, then:
Download the 8.5 manual update link from here:  Don't run the installer, but instead just Open the zip file in Windows Explorer.
http://swupdl.adobe.com/updates/oobe/aam20/win/PhotoshopCameraRaw8-8.0/8.5.50/setup.zip
Navigate inside the zip file to find the resources inside that correspond to the 64 or 32 bit Photoshop version that you're running.  I assume you have installed the 64 bit version, so the rest of the instructions will concentrate on the 64 bit Camera Raw.8bi only.  Here's the path:
setup.zip \ payloads \ AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-x64-050614143245 \ Assets1_1.zip
The file within Assets1_1.zip, named 1002, is actually the Camera Raw.8bi file for 64 bits, just with a different name.
Copy 1002 to your folder on your computer where your Camera Raw.8bi normally lives, e.g.,
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats
Rename the old Camera Raw.8bi file to Camera Raw.8bi_8.0.  It's important that the extension is changed to something other than .8bi.
Rename 1002 to Camera Raw.8bi
Run Photoshop and verify the Camera Raw version by choosing Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw.
-Noel
Please install DNG converter from following link. This would update the Camera Profiles to 8.5 version. .

  • Cannot update Camera Raw from 6.7 to 7.1

When I try to update Camera Raw from 6.7 to 7.1, from the 7.1 setup file I downloaded, I get the error:
    "Update failed
    Updates could not be applied
This patch is not applicable for you. Please check for updates from the help menu in your product to see a list of latest updates available."
If I go to help in Photoshop CS5 and click on updates, it says that all of my programs are up to date, but Camera Raw is still 6.7. It absolutely refuses to update to 7.1
I just traded in my Nikon D3100 for a Nikon D3200 and 6.7 does not support it, but 7.1 does, so I REALLY need it to upgrade because I like to shoot in RAW.
    Please help????

The Adobe policy is to provide free updates for currently shipping products. The current version of Photoshop is CS6, the current Camera Raw is 7.1.
Providing backwards compatibility of older software with newer versions of Camera Raw is a major technical problem. Camera Raw is a plug-in with dependancies on the host version of Photoshop's SDK. Camera Raw 7.x is designed to use the CS6 SDK. Photoshop CS6 has different platform requirements than Photoshop CS5 had. So, trying to force fit Camera Raw 7.x to work in Photoshop CS5 would require a code branch of the Camera Raw code that would substantially complicate future development–meaning it would put a major dent in the development resources that Adobe could apply to future updates–a bad thing for current customers. Personally, as a CS6 user, I would not like that at all.
Adobe provides backwards compatibility for new cameras in old versions of Photoshop for free. Yes, it's an additional step but one that only costs a bit of time on your part. The free DNG Converter is capable of producing DNGs that are compatible back to Camera Raw 2.4 in Photoshop CS...and again, this is free and something that Adobe didn't HAVE to do...
You want new cameras to be supported in older software–fact is these new cameras produce new raw file formats that are proprietary and undocumented–it takes a lot of work o decode new formats. This problem is a direct result of the failure of the camera companies to adopt a raw file format standard that would eliminate the need for new camera format decoding...you are perfectly happy buying a new camera that creates a new, un-compatible raw format and blame only Adobe for failing to upgrade old software? Your expectations are unrealistic and you are trying to place blame on the wrong party, it's the camera company's who are at fault for not adhering to some sort of standard that would free users of the problems they face now. Blame the company that sold you the camera that is not compatible with your software...it ain't Adobe's fault.

  • Updating Camera Raw from within Photoshop CS6

I recently added an iMac to my photo processing system, and I'm not yet really familiar with it, so I don't understnad this problem:
I downloaded Photoshop CS6, including Camera Raw 7, with no problem and it's installed and working fine on the iMac.
But when I tried to work on a file from my new Nikon D600, I got the message that Photoshop couldn't open the file and that I needed to update Camera Raw. It told me to use the Help>Update selection in Photoshop in order to update to the latest version.
Okay, I tried that, but got the message: "Update Failed. Update could not be applied. You are already running the Adoabe Application Manager, please close all instances of Adobe Application Manager before applying updates."
Well, as far as I can tell, it was using Help>Update that launched the Application Manager. There were no other "instances" (whatever they are) of Application Manager in use, as far as I know.  Further, I can't remove Application Manager from my computer by dragging its icon to the trash.
What am I doing wrong? I really want to have the latest version of Camera Raw so that I can work on D600 NEF files directly without having to convert them to DNG.
    Help ?!
    Thanx.

  • After updating Camera Raw to 8.2.0.94 cannot open .NEF files

After updating my camera raw plugin today to 8.2.0.94, I can not open .NEF files from Nikon 7100
I receive "Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered." error.
Photoshop CS 6, MacBook Pro OS 10.8.5

That error message usually, practically always points to a damaged or corrupt image file.
If you used Nikon software to copy the files to your Mac, be advised that said Nikon software is notorious for damaging files in the process.  Use the Mac Finder or, better, Bridge to download your images.
A faulty card, a failing hard drive, a bad USB port or cable can also be the cause of damaged files.
I have never seen or heard of that error message being generated on a Mac by a faulty Camera Raw installation or anything other than a corrupted or damaged file.

  • PS Elements 10 will not update Camera Raw from 6.7 to 7.3

It said there were updates in PSE 10  (help/updates) for Application Manager and Camera Raw.  I let it install both, I rebooted, and the ACR says 6.7 and not 7.3.  It will not read my Canon 6D RAW files.  When I check help/updates again, it says everything is up to date.  Please help!

    Here are Adobe's answers:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1030798?tstart=0
You need PSE11 to get the latest ACR updates.
With PSE10, you can use the free Dngconverter indicated in that paper to batch convert whole folders of raw files to the DNG format which your present ACR version can read and edit. (Scroll down to find the links).

  • Can't update Camera Raw 8.3

Just bought Elements 12 and it wouldn't import my RAW files from my Olympus OM-D E-M1 camera. I assumed that's a result of Camera Raw not being updated to the latest revision so I checked to see if there was an update available and sure enough, there was. That's where the good news ended. I can't run the update until I quit both Elements Organizer and Elements Auto Analyzer. Quiting Organizer is easy but there doesn't appear to be a way to quit Elements Auto Analyzer on the Mac. As a result, I can't run the update and can't import the RAW files. This is an example of poor programing on so many levels it's embarassing. At the moment, I have a totally useless piece of software.
I'd love to have a shortcut to work around the problem but Adobe really needs to clean up their act here.

    Consider
Trying to update it with the full Photoshop version can be done, but this will prevent future automatic updates from working.
I would question that generalization. Specifically,
    a. If you had Premiere Elements 12, updated Camera Raw from 8.2 to 8.3 manually using the files pointed to, if and when there is a Camera Raw 8.4, I do not see any problem updating Help Menu/Update or manually for that 8.3 to a projected 8.4.
In the case relating specifically to this thread, Premiere Elements 12, I see no reason why a manual install of 8.3 will prevent future updates of that Camera Raw version if there are more released that are compatible with 12.
    b. However, if I had version 11 which probably did not support Camera Raw beyond Camera Raw 7.4 and did a manual install of 8.2 (which I know can be done), I would not expect to use Help Menu/Update to update that "8.2" to "8.3".
And updating manually with "full Photoshop version" here will get you the same Camera Raw 8.3 with all its "Elements" disabled features just as always when comparing to Help Menu/Updates  by the book.
I base the above on my personal experience with version 11, where I manually installed Camera Raw 8.2 and obtained the results cited.

CS5 won't open NEF files from D600, despite updating camera raw plug in.  How do I fix this?

The D600 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and later - not CS5 unfortunately.

  • How can I update Camera raw for Photoshop CS5 to access images from Canon Rebel T4i?

How can I update Camera Raw for Photoshop CS5 to access images from Canon Rebel T4i? The updated version of Camera Raw 7 says it only works with CS6. Outside of buying a new Photoshop, is there anything I can do?

Buy Lightroom (much cheaper alternative to Photoshop) - does all your 'Photo-related' tasks. Full version of LightRoom 4 is $149/- - http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom.html
LightRoom 4 supports ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 7. Once processed with Lightroom, if you still need, you could take the photo in JPG or TIFF format into Photoshop CS5 for further processing.
Another option is to use Canon Raw Codec that would've come with your camera's box to process the RAW images and then take them into Photoshop.

  • Just updated camera raw to 6.6 in photoshop 5 won't open raw files

Just updated camera raw in photoshop 5 to 6.6 on a mac pro running 10.6.8 os wont open a raw file and program freezes and must force quit to close. Lightroom update has problems as well. Don't recommend updating to either

    Photoshop CS5, 12.0.4 x64

    8GB 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM
Photoshop is configured to open Raw, JPG & Tiff.
Raw files in CR2 format from my Canon EOS 5D MarkII
Applied the Camera Raw 6.6 update last night. There were no problems noted during the update. Did not realize until later that the files would not open any more - I was working with PSD files created several days before. I forwarded several crash reports to Apple after I force closed Photoshop several times. When I opened one of the three files Photoshop would not exactly freeze but the whole system became slow - the force-close menu took a while to display after I right-clicked the icon in the dock. If I dragged and dropped one of the three into the dock icon, Photoshop would open with usual audible disk sounds but the sounds stopped quickly and the program was frozen.
I recovered using suggestions from the forum, used Time Machine to return Photoshop, Bridge and the Adobe folder in the path /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ to the state before the update. The Camera Raw Plug-in is now at 6.5 and I can open RAW files again.
