After updating Firefox 10, why do I need to reboot?
Updated Firefox to version 10 in Windows XP and after installation it asks me to reboot my computer.
How come a browser asks for a full system reboot? Makes no sense!
I understand that, my question is more specific: what file could possibly be in use since Firefox was not running and hence could be replaced.
If Firefox needs to change more files than the ones that it brings, then its cumbersome to the user and it usually brings more harm than good as it can break something else in the computer.
I'm updating the browser, not anything else.

The report that they are getting messages that my Windows PC is reporting the downloading of malicious files. That is a reported scammer set-up. Read some of the following from actual phone customers. It is not related to your Firefox updates. I have gotten a few of these types of calls on my '''''unlisted '''''home phone number over the past several years. They use a dialer, usually automatic and sequential number dialing. Get a loud whistle to blow into the phone mouth piece or one of those loud air horns from the hardware/sporting good store; this kind of trash deserves broken ear drums.

I'm using Firefox on Windows XP professional x64 SP2.
I also use a program called "Proxifier" which directs all traffic from my computer to the Internet and vice versa through a proxy server and does the name resolution through proxy DNS not system DNS. Before updating my Firefox to v. 16.0.1, everything was working fine: Firefox connections were made through "Proxifier" and all the connections made by Firefox were shown in Proxifier's window.
But after updating Firefox, traffic from Firefox does not pass through Proxifier and in other words Firefox opens websites if I disable Proxifier. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH Internet Explorer which works fine and its traffic is directed through Proxifier as usual.
I did an extensive search through Google for a solution, and most relevant results suggest that it may have something to do with messed up LSP_CATEGORIES:

Also tried installing previous versions of Firefox such as v. 13 or 3.6.28 but the problem exists with these versions as well.
Unfortunately nothing has worked so far. I'm really puzzled since Internet Explorer is working fine with Proxifier and this problem with Firefox appeared only after updating it.
Can anyone suggest a solution?

After updating Firefox and Thunderbird from 8.0.1 to 9.0.1 I am no longer able to pin either application to the Windows 7 Toolbar (running Home Premium 64-bit).
I RESOLVED THE ISSUE. I uninstalled the converter. Re installed after a cold boot.

After updating Firefox to 5.0.1 the add-ons Manager did not show any of my add-ons, although they were all running. Several restarts of Firefox, even with the add-ons disabled did not bring them back. I then installed another add-on and after restarting, all of the previous add-ons are now shown in the manager.
Running on Mac 10.5.8. Add-ons installed:
Adblock Plus, Add-on Compatibility reporter, Ant Video Downloader, Forecastfox, Google toolbar, Reload Every, Session Manager, and Steep and Cheap Watcher.
Note: the troubleshooting information was taken after the problem was fixed. Prior to fixing the issue, there were no items under the Extensions heading. FWIW, renaming or deleting extensions.sqlite and the other files beginning with "extensions." causes the files to be rebuilt from the extensions directory, so nothing is lost, but they will be restored in alphabetical order.
I've solved places.sqlite problems by simply restoring a bookmarks backup, or creating a bookmarks backup and restoring that rather than face loss of history.

What modification is needed to AVG virus protection system after updating Firefox?
When I try to update Firefox on my computer I receive a message that the process will disable my AVG virus protection. I am currently using the latest version of AVG updated earlier this year.
I would appreciate further information on what modification is required to maintain my virus protection.The extension has nothing to do with it. The "Search.avg.com" was already disabled and I did remove the AVG Toolbar, and any others mentioned Firefox not compatible with I disabled or deleted, I restarted Firefox and the same problem exists. No extension is connected to my antivirus program.

After I updated firefox to 6.0 today firefox has developed a problem loading multiple tabs. When I try to load 10+ tabs, either at the same time or by opening each tab separately, each tab is stuck trying to connect to the desired page. This continues if I close all the tabs and try to load a single page, the single page is unable to get pass connecting. In order to load a new page when this situation arises I must close down firefox and start again, and the program has no history of the previous session.

On two different occasions after updating to Yosemite this has happened. On the first occasion I had two documents open in Microsoft Word and after looking something up on Safari, attempted to go back to the two open documents. Microsoft Word was showing as open, but the documents were nowhere to be seen and I also could open nothing else and was forced to force quit without saving my work on those documents.
A similar thing occurred today with Safari. I had many tabs open in one window in Safari. I closed my laptop to move to another room, and upon opening my laptop again Safari was still open, but all my tabs of different research papers I had were gone. When I chose the "reopen all windows from last session" option, it reopened windows I had not had open for many days, and not the ones I had been working off that day.
This is extremely annoying and as a scientist, I was forced to once again look up the many papers I needed for a grant proposal that I had not yet copied down reference information for. Updated firefox to latest version with custom install, no task bar or startup (in past I think I usually included startup) late Friday nite. Then when trying to open Firefox shortcut on desktop Sat. could not, would freeze up. Then if I tried to open IE same would happen. After rebooting a # of times, opened IE 1st and worked but still could not open Mozilla within IE or the desktop. Also all our 3 wireless laptops including apple have no problem with this.
You said you tried the recommended solution, but didn't mention what that solution was. Try, from the Firefox menu bar:

where you will find an option to block pop-up windows. If that box is checked but there are sites from which you would like to allow pop-up, click the button "Exceptions..." to add sites to your exception list.

Our help-desk is internal, secure website. We have used Firefox for our help desk software browser since we purchased the software. But after updating to version 12, clicking on a hyperlink no longer works but only for the help desk software. Pre-version 12 works fine. External sites are fine. IE executes the help-desk software fine. There is no error, it just never executes the hyperlink. It's like they're text. Where can I start looking? We'd prefer not to go to IE, but we are using it now to get by.

After installing Firefox 5, replacing my previous version (4.5), I could see the new features. However, having closed and reopened Firefox, it seems as though it has reverted to the previous version, even though 'Help - About' says I'm running on version 5.0.
I had to download 5.0 from the Mozilla website, as I tried to update via the update tool in 4.5, but it claimed I was fully up to date, even though I have 5.0 on another machine (which works perfectly).Can you please describe the "new features" that you saw first time you opened Firefox 5?
