After updating Firefox, cannot open at all, system tells me Firefox is already running, but it isn't. I can't even remove it from system???

After updating to Firefox 6, I cannot open Firefox at all. Nothing happens when I try. I went to Control Panel and tried to remove Firefox, but my system tells me that Firefox is already running, please close to continue. I do not have another copy running. Everything was working great until this last update.
I have tried all the recommendations on your site but nothing is helping - very frustrating!!!!!

    I had the same problem (update failed for normal user, update worked for administrator, but then normal user still got asked about installing the update even though it was already done).
    Following the advice on http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_update#Software_Update_not_working_properly worked for me, in particular to remove the update-related xml files.

    Environment - Single File Server & 6 workstations.
    I have a single generic user account/profile and log on to all 6 workstations at the same time (1 user, 1 password, 6 workstations).
    I need to run firefox on all the workstations with the same user and user profile.
    However, as soon as one user opens firefox all the others get the message "Firefox is already running but is not responding" and can not open the browser. No other workstations can open Firefox. I can only run 1 instance of Firefox in this scenario. How can I run it on all 6 with a single user account?
    I have been back to the server and deleted the parent.lock file but it is recreated again as soon as someone open a firefox browser and the problem starts al over again.
    Please - How can I get a single user with a single profile to run firefox on 6 workstations simultaneously?

    hello timfarr, you cannot do that - many essential databases (like bookamrks, passwords etc.) in your profile are not designed to be accessed by different processes at the same time...

    Make sure that you do not use [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History Clear Recent History] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.
    Also please make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.
    You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: Use custome settings for history. Uncheck "Always use permanent Private Browsing mode"

    Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

    Why did you delete your profile? Also how? Did you use the profile manager or did you delete from the windows file structure?
    It sounds like something during the profile delete has stopped Firefox from starting up. Please see the this article and follow the steps:

    This message comes up when I try to open firefox. I have looked at all the siggestions on the web and thothing works. I have gone in to task manager and it is not running. I even removed it and re-instaled it. No luck. I just had an new update download to the computer before I shut down last and I am now runing Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
