After updating Firefox on my MacBook Air (OSX 10.6.8), it has ceased to work. I open it, but it never gets beyond the Connecting... message.

I have always used Firefox on my MacBook Air. But since updating to the latest version of Firefox (7.0.1), it freezes as soon as I open it - there is a constantly running "Connecting..." message, and the little circle turns continuously, and there is a blank page. Eventually, I get an error message saying "Connection Timed Out" - and it does not matter which website I try to contact. All my other browsers (Safari, Chrome" work fine

Hi franverdi-
It sounds like you've run into issues from the upgrade. I've found a Support article that helps with issues of not being able to connect after an upgrade:
[[Cannot connect after upgrading Firefox]]
I hope that helps!

Try to reset the iPod by  pressing the home and sleep button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data doing a reset, but it can clear some glitches after installing new software or apps.

  • I am having trouble with app updates on my iOS 5 iPhone never getting beyond the "waiting" state.

I am having trouble with app updates on my iOS 5 iPhone never getting beyond the "waiting" state. I have tried signing out/in of my account, rebooting and removing/re-installing the apps.  This started shortly after going to iOS 5 but I am not certain if that is related.  All updates that I try now are stuck in "waiting".  I also tried removing the apps and then installing via iTunes desktop sync with no improvement.  The only thing that I have not tried so far is a restore to a prior iPhone backup.  I have not been able to find anything to indciate what the updates on waiting on.  There is plenty of space on the iPhone (16gb available).  Any suggestions on what to try next?

    Hello there, Missy.
First thing I would recommend is to check your downloads queue to make sure there is not an interrupted download per the following Knowledge Base article:
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1725
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    1. From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
    2. For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
    3. Enter your account name and password if prompted.
    4. Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
If you can't complete the download on your iOS device, you can download it in iTunes on your Mac or PC and then sync it to your iOS device. You can also transfer purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer.
For Apps, you can also try tapping on the application icon to resume the download, as outline in this featured discussion:
App updates won't download on my...: Apple Support Communities
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111336
Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

    Hello hfb8,
I would be be concerned too if I was not able to update my iPhone.  If you have not resolved the issue, I recommend following the steps in this article for an issue like this:

  • Cannot update because firefox never gets beyond the "Downloading Firefox" box, the one with "Hide" button in the lower left corner.

the "Software Update" box shows "Downloading Firefox" the blue strip runs across the box in the area that is immediately above, "Connecting to the update server..." I have let it run for over an hour a couple of times - it never gets beyond this step.

If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • I have tried to download Firefox, and my screen shows Firefox setup 3.6 at the bottom. How do I get Firefox? I can never get beyond the set up and information screen.

I downloaded Firefox 3.6. It asks me if I want tot save it. I enter save. Then it goes to the introduction to the features of Firefox. How do I go beyond that. Also, if I leave the site, ie-get off the internet, then get back on later, the website again asks me if I want to download and save Firefox 3.6.

After you download '''Firefox Setup 3.6.3.exe''', you must double click on this file. Usually, you can find this either on your desktop or in your Downloads folder.
Your Downloads folder is located inside Documents.

  • TS3230 from a macbook air, osx 10.7.5, am trying to enter OPM/e-qip application but told system not recognized, to go to tools, options, advanced, encryption, enable ssl3.0 and tis 1.o.  How do I get to "Tools"?

I am trying to enter OPM/E-QIP Application but am told browser is not recognized, to go to: tools, options, advanced, encrytion, enable, SSL3.0 and TLS 1.0.  How to get to Tools?

Here's what OPM says to do to configure Safari, if that's the browser you're using (sort of; their instructions wouldn't get you where you need to be with Safari 5.1.7:
    1) Select Safari, then Preferences from the menubar.
    2) Click Advanced
    3) Click the check box next to "Show Develop Menu in the Menu Bar"
    4) Close the Preferences window
    5) Select Develop from the menubar
    6) Select User Agent, then "an appropriate browser" (OPM's words); they suggest Firefox for the Mac
This information came from their Quick Reference Guide (other than correcting an error about how to set the user agent), and I haven't tested it.  If this doesn't work, you probably need to ask OPM (or their contractor) how to use the site with a Mac ...
    Good luck

    Thankyou

    Hi henrocktenrock,
Does the same form work on any other machine?
Was it working fine before you updated Reader?
Would it be possible to share the form with me so that I can have a look.

  • I'm unable to do a clean install of Firefox 6 on Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8.

I'm unable to do a clean install of Firefox 6 on Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8. After trashing the firefox.app from the Applications folder and trashing a related file in the Library folder and then reinstalling, all of my previously opened windows and tabs reappear. And the history and bookmarks are populated too! Then, the computer freezes up so that I must reboot. Because these windows automatically open and the history and bookmarks are populated with my old history and bookmarks, I believe this is not a clean install. Please help.

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.

  • Am I the only one getting calls from 253-802-0308 about malicious file downloads after updating FIREFOX?

After updating Firefox I start getting calls from 253-802-0308 (International Telcom in Auburn Washington, found using 411.com). The report that they are getting messages that my Windows PC is reporting the downloading of malicious files. I don't think that there is a connection with Mozilla but it only started after I ran the last 2 or 3 updates to Firefox. Searches on Google and other search engines don't show logical connections to the phone calls and the problem being reported to me. None of my anti-virus programs, Ccleaner, DEFENDER & AVG pickup and malicious files. I'm curious about who they may be because when I question them during the calls they end up hanging up on me. Just wondering if similar problems are being reported.

That is a reported scammer set-up. Read some of the following from actual phone customers. It is not related to your Firefox updates. I have gotten a few of these types of calls on my '''''unlisted '''''home phone number over the past several years. They use a dialer, usually automatic and sequential number dialing. Get a loud whistle to blow into the phone mouth piece or one of those loud air horns from the hardware/sporting good store; this kind of trash deserves broken ear drums.

  • After updating Firefox to version 16.0.1, it no longer works in conjunction with "Proxifier"...

    Hi,
I'm using Firefox on Windows XP professional x64 SP2.
I also use a program called "Proxifier" which directs all traffic from my computer to the Internet and vice versa through a proxy server and does the name resolution through proxy DNS not system DNS. Before updating my Firefox to v. 16.0.1, everything was working fine: Firefox connections were made through "Proxifier" and all the connections made by Firefox were shown in Proxifier's window.
But after updating Firefox, traffic from Firefox does not pass through Proxifier and in other words Firefox opens websites if I disable Proxifier. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH Internet Explorer which works fine and its traffic is directed through Proxifier as usual.
I did an extensive search through Google for a solution, and most relevant results suggest that it may have something to do with messed up LSP_CATEGORIES:
    link: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621320
    and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636088
Anyway, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and Proxifier, resetting Firefox, resetting winsocks catalog (netsh int ip reset - netsh winsock reset) several times and tried the relevant suggestions in this link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-problems-connecting-websites-after-updating?esab=a&as=aaq
Also tried installing previous versions of Firefox such as v. 13 or 3.6.28 but the problem exists with these versions as well.
Unfortunately nothing has worked so far. I'm really puzzled since Internet Explorer is working fine with Proxifier and this problem with Firefox appeared only after updating it.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Regards

hello, you probably have to set-up firefox to use a proxy to connect to the web: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/settings-network-updates-and-encryption#w_network-tab
