Apple is infamous for being restrictive and controlling.
The iPhone also doesn't connect to faster 4G networks, except the 4S version from AT&T, but whether you'll see noticeably faster speeds will likely be hit or miss. If you own a apple product? I feel for you, it like owning that old beat up rusty car you have to park way out back in the parking lot, and you pray no one see's you getting out of it.
Android phones are like PCs - they are extremely customizable - by carriers, handset makers and owners. Virtual keyboards, phone dialers, wallpaper, home screen widgets and much more can be done.
All told, Android is likely to be the Windows PC equivalent in the smart phone market, and the operating system is well-positioned to soon  become the leading smart phone platform in the United States.
In closing, if you like being led around by the hand, go and get yourself one of those iPhones, and then stop crying about what you can not do with it.

    Oh ...
That makes it difficult. My new (working) phone is a 4S and the SIM card does not fit. The old SIM card is in the 3GS but as far as I know it was was deactivated.
But it seems that with other updates over the last couple of years this was not necessary and my partner went through the same update with her 3GS with no problems.
Should I go to my AT&T dealer and purchase a new SIM card? Is there still a new one available?

    1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
    2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.8 or earlier.
    3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
if it's shown (it may not be.)
    4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
    5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • HT4993 Why does my battery run down fast?

I just got my iPhone Saturday (it's a 5) and I notice my battery runs down quite quickly!  I also just added hot spot, but cannot locate it on my phone to enable/disable it.

Hotspot can be disabled at Settings > General > Cellular > Set Up Personal Hotspot

    Thank you

sorry, i don't have your answer.  instead, i have your problem.  none of the  ringtones, textones that i created sync to my new 4S (which i prefer over 5) since i installed ios7.  they still appear in my library, are checkmarked, but won't go, even with several attempts.

  • HT1476 Battery runs down fast, what's up?

Starting yesterday, the charge on my year old iPhone 5, only lasts about 12 hours. Most of this time is standby.
I've never seen it run down this fast!
I went through my apps to make sure nothing is running in the background, I'm stumped.

    Hello there, Machinist03.
Great job in troubleshooting your issue by reviewing background applications and multitasking. This link also reviews some other things you can look over for optimizing battery life:
    Apple - Batteries - iPhone
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
    Optimize Your Settings
Depending on how they are set, a few features may decrease your iPhone battery life. The tips below apply to an iPhone running iOS 7.0 or later.
Enable Wi-Fi: Having Wi-Fi enabled helps consume less power when doing activities that access data. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and log in to a Wi-Fi network.
Adjust brightness: Dim the screen or turn on Auto-Brightness to extend battery life. Turning on Auto-Brightness allows the screen to adjust based on lighting conditions. To enable Auto-Brightness go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper and set Auto-Brightness to On. Adjust your brightness when indoors in a non-bright environment. You can do this by going to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper and dragging the slider to the left to dim. After making this change, turn Auto-Brightness off and then on again to reset to the default behavior.
Fetch new data less frequently: The more frequently email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery may drain. To fetch data manually: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Manually. To increase the fetch interval, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly. Note: This global setting applies to all applications that do not support push services. If you receive a lot of email, you can turn off push email to save your battery. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data. Set Push to Off. Messages sent to your push email accounts will now be received on your phone based on the global Fetch setting rather than as they arrive.
Turn off push notifications: Apps with Push Notification alert you of new data, which may impact battery life. To disable, go to Settings > Notifications, choose the app you want to disable, and do the following:
    Change Alert Style to None.
    Turn Badge App Icon off.
    Turn Sounds off.
Note: New data will be received when you open the app.
Minimize use of location services: Apps that actively use location services, such as Maps, may reduce battery life. You can see which applications have recently used location services by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Apps that have recently used your location will have an indicator next to the app’s on/off switch. If you see an app that you do not expect to be using location services, you can disable it by toggling the switch to Off. To disable location services completely, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas: Your iPhone always tries to maintain a connection with the cellular network, which may use more power in low- or no-coverage areas. Turn on Airplane Mode to increase battery life in these situations. Go to Settings and set Airplane Mode to On. Note that you will be unable to make or receive calls with Airplane Mode on.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Since I let my G4 Powerbook's battery run down, I hear a loud CLICK SOUND at regular intervals, that I never heard before. It sounds like a back-up click. Is this a problem?

After letting my PowerBook G4's battery run down all the way, I hear a loud metalic CLICK sound every so often.  Not sure if this is a problem or not. Should I be worried, or have it checked out?

If it's not the original PowerBook, and you have the original OS X disks that came with your PowerBook, run  the Apple Hardware Test.  If it's the first PowerBook, the Apple Hardware Test is available online.
When prompted, run the extended test. Depending on how much memory you have in the system, the test can take an hour or more.
TechTool Deluxe or Pro can do similar testing, too.
You're looking to see if it gives you any error messages about the hardware in your system.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks

I guess I should have asked for the "definitive" fix. I read several "fixes" but it seems no one knows if Apple has a definitive fix. Kind of like going into an Apple store and getting three different answers from three different reps. At least they are not rude and no, I don't have a problem searching the forum.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Why is my battery running down on an iPhone 4 running iOS 7?

Why is my battery running down on my iPhone 4 when I'm not using my phone and all apps are closed?  My phone will have a full charge at night, no apps running. Bluetooth is off, automatic updates are off, backgroud app refresh is off, and by morning the battery's charge has dropped to 50%.  Some nights it will only drop 1-2% though, with no changes made. How can I fix this?
Also, since the update I am not receiving push notifications for some apps that I have them turned on for (turned on both in settings, and the app itself).
Any helpful advice is greatly appreciated.

I had been having battery problems with my Iphone 5 and decided to make a trip to the genuis bar, in the end they replaced my battery and reset my software because i had a failing battery and the hardware was malfunctioning. You may have something similar. I would recommend making a reservation to the genius bar online. They can then run a diagnostic on your iphone and get back detailed results on the current condition of your battery and wether or not the software controlling it is working. If you have applecare currently then they can replace the battery for free, if not there is a charge of around $70. If it turns out you have a different problem than they probably will be able to find out and give you better advice than I can!
    Good Luck!
