hey! today i update my iphone 3gs to 5.0.1 so iphone said me that it cant activate it, and itunce said it cant find my SIM card.
Before updating I had 4.1, and now I decided to update it to 5.0, but it is imposible becourse I can update it only to 5.0.1
so i update to 5.0.1 and iTunce told me it cant find SIM card.
can you help me? plz
sounds like your phone was jailbroken. Was it?

If it was legitimately unlocked then updating it will not re-lock it. It will be re-locked only if it was unlocked by hacking it.
That error message, however, does not mean it is locked. It means that iTunes could not verify the locked state because it could not communicate with Apple's activation database at gs.apple.com. There are common reasons that the server connection fails:
1. Your router, antivirus or firewall is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
2. You don't have a WiFi connection if you updated on the phone and not with a computer.
3. If you updated using your computer and it was used to hack, unlock or jailbreak some iOS device in the past (not necessarily the iPhone with the problem) and the network database on the computer is corrupted. -

I have the same problem after updating to the latest iTunes. I purchased an iPhone 4S this past summer and gave my 3GS to my 6 year-old minus the SIM card-- an instant iPod Touch. Things were fine until the latest version of iTunes 11.0. Until I updated to 11.0.1, iTunes would not even "see" the iPhone.
How do I get past the insistence to activate the phone? Right now, it's a useless brick. -

First use JPanel not Panel.

Basically facing problem in synchronizing my iphone & macbook using iTunes.You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
You have to upgrade to 10.6.8 to be able to download iTunes 10.7. The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.

I saved it anyway and when I go to the Exchange email account it says "Cannot Get Mail" "The connection to the server failed." We are running Microsoft Exchange 2010 and I was always able to sync my calendar and email before I upgraded to IOS 6.

Hi im from Argentina. I read a lot of question about the iphone activation problem, but i didnt read the answer i was looking for.
I bought my iphone 3gs in a company here in Argentina. It would be like at & tAmerican. I update to version io5 and could not activate the cellphone. I'm using the sim that I got from them.
The problem is that the company has very incompetent people, and here in Argentina there is no support from Apple.
I have a contract with them saying that I can update without any problem.
To restore it, i push the power button and the home at the same time until it was shut down and then when the apple appeared remove the switch of power. Of course it was plug to itunes. The system restores, but it continue saying "insert a sim card".
This was the correct way to restore it? What else can i do?
Please im asking because here in Argentina they dont care, i m with this problem since 13 of november.Someone please help me.

Try a new SIM card.
If your phone was hacked to unlock it, it will require a SIM card from the carrier to which it was originally locked. -

I think what he means, is when you know how when you update your phone, itunes has to restore your last back-up back onto the iphone, or ipod, and it it wont let this person. If so, im having this problem myself, i lost all my contacts and data saved on one of my back ups because itunes refuses to restore my phone from before the update, my 3GS went from 4.3.5 to 5.0.1. I hope my problem is the same here, but i have no solutions.
Im not supporting the idea, but ive heard that jailbreaks can Force the iphone to restore, but thats only what ive heard. sorry if my problem isnt the same. and sorry i couldnt provide a solution :/ -
I updated the phone, and now, it won't charge through the wall charger, or through connecting to my PC. It doesn't even launch itunes or register it has connected. But the phone still palys music through my docking station. HELP!?

I have the same problem and I do anything you can imagine. If you leave your phone about two or three days and after that plug in it your phone will be power on but your problem doesn't fix. I tried to restore as a new phone, reset all my settings and also I contacted Apple Support but I couldn't fix it. I think that it would be a software issue because it occurred right after iOS 6.1.3 update. It look likes that we have only two choice. First choice is waiting until Apple release next iOS update and check it in our phones, and the other choice is visiting an Apple retail store to diagnostic our phones for hardware issue. -

You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, particularly before any update or restore.
You should also be syncing your contacts to your computer regularly. They hsould be in whatever program/service that you have selected to sync.
If you have failed to do this, then they are very likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup. -
