After updating to 10.4.8 my airport settings aren't set automatically after

restart.
Before whenever my computer came on my airport settings would come on automatically. Now at least on my main HD, I have to set my airport settings manually each time my computer turns on.
It's weird because I have an external HD and I installed 10.4.8 on it too. My external HD STILL detects my airport settings automatically whenever I select my external HD as the startup disk. As far as I know I did the exact same thing to both HDs when I installed 10.4.8 to them.
Please help.

I fixed my own problem.
It seems that my airport file got corrupt in the /Library/Prefences/SystemConfig. I just deleted the file and I restarted my iMac twice. On the second restart it automatically detected my airport settings once again.
I did several restarts after that to make sure it's fixed. Yep, it's fixed!

  • Airport Express - How to set proxy settings?

    Hello all
I have an AirPort Express in for testing at work.
The internet access at work requires going through a proxy. This proxy gets set on domain clients via gpo.
We have some devices we dont want to put on the domain (wont get the gpo) but we need them to have internet access.
We could set the proxy on these devices manauly but theres a lot of them.
I have been trying to find where in the Airports settings you can set proxy settings but cant find anything.
Can you set proxy settings manualy in the device and if so, where abouts?
I'm using windows for accessing the Airports settings.
Thanks for any help someone can offer.

unfortunately i have to use 1.4 which makes this a bit more tricky.
my other idea was to use system.setProperties to set the 2 proxy fields and then afterwards set them back to what they were -- however in the case they were null I get an NPE when I try and set them back, so I'd need a workaround for that as well.

syching my iphone4 after updating to ios6 and now half my photos aren't showing up in my phone.

Did you restore from backup on iTunes or did you use iCloud?
Did you sync with iTunes? Is iTunes section for photos checked to sync all your photo locations?
Also, with photo streaming sometimes you need to switch from Album to photo stream to see some photos.
If your photos are on your computer still, they can be added back. if not and you depended solely on iCloud, then they may be gone.

  • Lose airport settings after restart

After restarting powerbook, airport settings are changed and can no longer use bonjour printer or see airport express. As instructed by Apple, if I throw out system configuration folder and restart computer, it works fine again until it is shut down, then same problem. There must be a better answer!

I'd love an answer to this, I've had this problem for a while now

  • Updating Firmware on an older version Airport Express

Does anyone have an answer to updating the firmware of an older  version Airport Express. The new Airport utility 6.3.2 will not allow me to make changes to my Airport Express from 6 years back.

Apple has not updated the firmware on the older AirPort Express models in over 6 years, so chances are you already have the most recent firmware installed on your Express.
Apple has dropped support of the older AirPort Express models in AirPort Utility 6.x versions, so you will need to use a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC if you need to administer the older Express that you have.

    Hello SHenoudabak,
It sounds like you are trying to find the Personal Hotspot option in your Settings. You were close. The option is directly under Settings, and not in the Cellular section of Settings:
Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot
    Personal Hotspot - iPhone
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

After updating to mavericks on my MacBook, the screen keeps saying "setting up your mac." It has been like this for hours! How can I make it go faster? It's has been like this for 4 hrs.

I don't think your mac is setting up. It's stuck.
    I would:
hold the power button until it shuts down
    unplug all peripherals
do a safe boot (restart and hold down the shift key until you see the apple logo).
If it starts up in a safe boot, then you can try restarting with a normal boot.
If it does not start with a normal boot, then you probably have some incompatible third party software. Likely culprits are:
    MacKeeper
    CleanMyMac
    third-party antivirus software
any other "cleaning" or "optimizing" or similar third party "utilities".
A good place to start would be to uninstall any of those (while in safe mode) and then restart.

  • Macbook do not save Airport-Settings

    Hallo,
i use a Macbook in a wireless network. On my iMac the Network-Settings are the same as on my Macbook. If i restart the Macbook the WLAN-Settings are gone and i have to input all settings like WPA2 and so on new. It do not reconnect automatically. How can this happen ?

    My suggestion:
Aiport settings are saved in a file called: com.apple.airport.preferences.plist,
this file is located on Macintosh HD in:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Find this file and delete it, reboot your computer after it comes back up, open Network Settings and reconfigure your Airport connection, make sure to select Remember networks as suggested by other poster.
Note: If this doesn't work, you will need to open up the Disk Utility, select Machintosh HD, and Verify permissions. If it reports any errors when performing that Verify, then run the Repair Permissions. Anytime you run that utility it is a good idea to reboot afterward so caches get updated.
Your Network login to your router is stored in keychain access.app. I suggest using WPA2 Personal and using a 10 character password. If your password is not 10 characters, then input 1234 or something on the end of it to make it 10 characters, you would need to have a 10 character password setup for Wireless Security on the router as well, it too would need to be set at WPA2 Personal. Both authentication schemas used MUST match (router must match your airport settings exactly).

  • Updated OS to 10.4.7 and PPPoE no longer connects automatically when needed

Yesterday I updated from OSX 10.4.6 to 10.4.7. I have my network settings arranged to connect to the internet (via a DSL modem) when needed, i.e., when starting an application like Entourage. This was working fine with 10.4.6, but with the updated OS I now have to connect manually. I have double checked all the settings and also created a new location to see if that would solve the issue.
Any clues? I am wondering if this is a bug with the update, or a problem on my machine, although as mentioned it was fine under the older OS.
I am new to OSX, under OS9 I would simply try deleting the preferences for the network 'location'.

Problem with PPPoE not solved, but not an issue for me anymore as I have set an airport network which is creating automatic connections.

  • Updating the OS on one machine & retaining settings

    Hi.
My iPhone is synced to my Mac pro at my work place but the adsl is only a 384 connection and downloading updates for the iPhone takes really long and often has network failures.
So I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to download the update from my 3G connection on my Mac book and then update the phone on the Mac book and then after updating the OS, reload all previous settings on the iPhone by resyncing again to the Mac at my work place yet retaining the latest version of the OS on the phone..... Make sense? Is it possible?

You can update software or restore an iPhone on any computer. Updating software does not affect any user settings or data. What you don't want to do is sync if this is not the computer you normally sync with. So make sure you disable auto-sync under Preferences>Devices in iTunes before you attempt to update your phone.
Now the warning: While it is possible to update on any computer, the risk you run is that if something were to go wrong, you could lose all of the data & iTunes content on your phone. Although remote, there is that possibility. So, for insurance, back up your phone on the computer you normally sync with before attempting the update.

  • Moving to new Mini, what to do with existing Airport settings

    Hi Everyone!!
I'm picking up my new Mac Mini this afternoon (my older one is now in year 5!). The question I have is, what is the best way to hook up my Airport Express for the new Mini? Since I don't expect to use both computers on my wireless network, I'd like to simply use my Express (used exclusively for my Canon wireless printer) via my new machine. Do I do a reset to factory default for the new Mini? I have just one 23" Cinema display, so I assume I will not be adding the new Mini to the existing network, but starting all over with installing the software from the disk and setting everything up from scratch. Or, is there a possibility of adding the new machine to the network after unplugging the older computer, with the Airport settings intact? With Airport Express still plugged into my UPS and active, is this feasible?
    Thanks

One question comes to mind: You mentioned no need to install the Express disk on the new Mini, simply join the network. As I will only use the Airport network for my wireless printer -- my internet connection is via an ethernet cable connected to an ATT U-verse router -- will I have any need for the Airport utility that's on the disk, the same utility on my old Mini? What if I need to check on my settings after I disconnect my older Mini. I know, maybe a stupid question.
    hi jim,
your new mini will have the current (as of the date it shipped) version of airport utility installed. the settings are on the express not in airport utility. you manage the settings on the express with airport utility.
you shouldn't run into problems. if you do, you still can pop in the disk and install the software that's on it.
and you can always post back here

Will have to have re-set up my airport express or will the extreme just work with the express? I have the express locked down and I thought about unlocking the express? What would I do to set this up? Any help I would greatly appreciate it!!!
You should set up the Extreme as your main router and eventually the Express to stream music or to extend the wireless.
After the Extreme is set up and running, just set the Express e.g. to "Join a wireless network".
Alternatively reset the Express to factory default (see manual) and configure it from the scratch to your needs.

This is really unfortunate. I'm sorry that nothing works. I was going to mention holding down the power button and doing a force shutdown but you already did that. You might need to take it into the Apple store. I don't know if booting into safe mode would help. You would have to turn off the machine again, hit the start button and hold down the shift key after you hear the tone, but normally you would let go of the shift key when you see the apple logo and spining wheel. Maybe by holding down the shift key after you here the tone will cause the screen to come back on? The other option is to start up from the 'install disk' if your machine came with one. You would insert the disk, then shut down the computer, and hold down the C key right after hitting the start button.

  • Airport settings failed in diagnostics

ok i am about ready to throw my new macbook out the window. I just downloaded the new software update for leopard and now i cant connect wirelessly. when i run the diagnostics it says airport settings failed. please help before i shoot this macbook

Apparently Apple are aware of this problem and there should be a fix released on Software Update quite soon. I am experiencing similar problems, but when I run Network Diagnostics I am able to reconnect. Looks like you've been waiting quite some time for the fix though looking at the date you posted your message.
