After Updating to 4.3 my Iphone lost everything..

I need help. I just updated my iphone 4 and it told me to restore. When I did restore I lost everything such as pictures and messages. How do I get it back? I tried backing up but it just backs up to what i have now...which is nothing. Please help.
-Updated to 4.3
-Error came up and had to restore
-restore came up and I lost everything
-I had to leave somewhere today and I decided to sync an app and some songs
-came back tried to restore but it did nothing
How can I get my old settings back? I lost pictures, txt messages, apps, and all my settings were changed back to normal. PLEASE HELP

if you are on a windows machine you right click your phone on the left side of the itunes window and select restore from backup itues should then give you an option to select a backup
